What do you think?

That's my thinking. There was an interglacial, if you will, but while the eastern "holding company," the Soviet Union, did go out of business it's successor enterprise, the Russian Federation, is trying to recoup the losses and re-establish itself as the steadfast opponent of the West.

The Cold War ended a long time ago. Nobody wants war, militarisation whatsoever anymore.

The Cold War ended a long time ago. Nobody wants war, militarisation whatsoever anymore. Furthermore, the US won't intervene in East Ukraine, simply because it isn't in it's influence sphere.

We didn't have "war" during the "Cold War," that's why it was called "cold." And countries ought not to have officially recognized sphere's of influence.

In fact, the taking of Crimea and rebels in Eastern Ukraine is not Putin trying to be an imperialist.
In a meeting of leaders of Eastern Europe in 2008, Putin stated that if Ukraine tries to join the EU, Russia will take Crimea and East Ukraine. He fulfilled his promise.
I think that whether or not the rebels in Donetsk win, this event will soon cool down and be eventually forgotten. Some people feared that Libya or Syria will lead us to WWIII, but that didn't happen.

The first part was unnecessary since we all know what the cold war was.
Secondly, the US and Russia respect the influence spheres from one another.
