Obama Bans the Import of the Russian AK 47/74.

Postby Aurulie » Tue Jul 22, 2014 7:04 pm

According to CNN, the U.S. has placed sanctions on Russia, banning the import of all new Russian AK 47/74s by executive order. The reason for the sanction, is Russia's alleged involvement in the downed Malaysian aircraft and their actions in Ukraine. TBH, I think no matter what Russia does in the future, the ban will never be lifted. Just look at China and the ban we placed on their rifles. Obama killed two birds with one stone on this.

AKs and Vodka.

On topic, I support this and the other sanctions that have been laid down. In fact, I think we need to turn the pressure up.

Isn't this sort of already covered by FOPA? Civilians can't own automatic firearms built or imported after 1986 without a metric asston of paperwork.

EDIT:
Ohhh, I see, it's against the Kalashnikov company. That makes more sense. OP needs to clarify.

I edited my post when I realized what had been omitted. The sanctions are on the whole company, and KC produces a lot more than AK-47s and 74s.

Russia does not make new AK-47s, and I am pretty sure the AK-74s are no longer manufactured.

It shows either Obama or you are ignorant of firearms.

I almost knew this was coming. Wish I'd been smart enough to gobble up something earlier, but unlike Spreewerke I never was too into the AK series. On the dim bright side at least the design is universal enough similar models can be gotten, even if they won't be Russian-correct models. Gun laws in general related to importation need a serious overhaul. *sigh*

Does lend some credence to the theory that the 7n6 ammo ban was more political than AP based.

If he banned the import of Russian vodka, that might hurt a little more.

I'd also have to start drinking more Svedka.

They do produce AK 74s the Russian military still uses it. Do you think they export the AK 12s to Americans in droves?

It does not take a very intelligent person to see that ANY sanctions against Russia are hurting the USA FAR more than they are Russia.
