The Republic of Thrakion, an island nation with an area of 1 036 370 km2, and a population of 175 795 818 people. Had always had a close relationship with Ardoki, located about 1000 kilometres from Eastern Alteranum (the continent Ardoki is on) Thrakion was originally the home to the Indigenous Thrakions, however it was settled by Ardokians in 1746. It started off as an Ardokian colony, however it gained independence in late 1904, as there was severe civil disturbance back in Ardoki. After the Great Revolution of 1905, the Social Democratic Republic of Ardoki and the Republic of Thrakion became very close. That very year, an alliance, and a trade agreement were established between the two nations, bringing the two nations very close together. However, Thrakion retained a more capitalistic economic system, which while providing a strong economy, resulted a medium level of wealth inequality among the people. The Indigenous Thrakions suffered the most, and many moved to Ardoki which had a less capitalist economic system, which provided low wealth inequality and a very high living standard for everyone, due to its social democratic system.Fastforward to 2014, and the relationship between Ardoki and Thrakion is closer than ever. Over 80% of Thrakions are Ardokian (ethnically, linguistically, and culturally), while the Indigenous Thrakions (who are the remainder) keep their own and vibrant culture and language, while many of them claim to be nationally Ardokian also. From the 1990s, and onwards, there were major calls in Thrakion to be reintegrated into Ardoki, support generally hovered around 40%. A main reason for keeping independence, was the fear that the unique history of Thrakion would be lost, while it was also worried that the unique and amazing culture and language of the Indigenous Thrakions would be lost in the large Social Republic of Ardoki. However, in 2009, support for unification reached 58%, and by 2013, it was at 69% by January of 2014. Such a massive change in the opinions of the Thrakion people was due to a realisation that, unification with Ardoki, would make Thrakion a better place. As said earlier, Thrakion had a more capitalist-leaning economy, this cause quite a lot of wealth inequality, and corrupted democracy in the nation. While many Thrakion politicians wished to change the system, it would be very hard, slow, and could cause the entire system to completely collapse. However, in March of 2014, in the National Elections, Alkira Floros, an Indigenous Thrakion, was elected as Premier. On the day of her election, she promised to the people of Thrakion, that she would "unite Ardoki and Thrakion, once more". The majority (over 70%), of Thrakions welcomed this, however there were some who didn't like it at all. On the 8th of July, a bill was passed which would officially re-unify Ardoki and Thrakion. All that needed to be done, was to get the Ardokian National Assembly to pass a law unifying the two states.The Ardokian population was very supportive of the unification of the two states. Every political party in the National Assembly supported such a unification. While over 90% of Ardokian citizens thought of the unification as a good thing for both parties. The leading party in the National Assembly wrote up a bill, which would effectively incorporate the Republic of Thrakion, into a province of the Social Democratic Republic of Ardoki. On the 16th of July, the bill was passed in the National Assembly. The Thrakionan government had already passed a bill which would allow the abolition of the Republic of Thrakion, and incorporate Thrakion into the Social Democratic Republic of Ardoki, and on the 19th of July 2014, the Republic of Thrakion was abolished, and Thrakion joined the Social Democratic Republic of Ardoki, becoming its 129th Province. The state apparatus of Thrakion was immediately placed under Ardokian control, and Premier Alkira Floros became the Governor of the Province of Thrakion.However, a small, yet vocal minority opposed the unification. A Thrakionan right-wing organisation, the Black Order, promised to not let the annexation occur. The Black Order is an anti-Ardokian and pro-fascist secret society, which has been active in Thrakion since the 1940s. While only having several thousand unknown members, it is rumoured to have links to the Thrakionan military and criminal societies. The Ministry of State Security (Ardokian intelligence organisation) was ordered to contain the threat, and assist the peaceful progress of the unification.
