The National Soccer League is a United States professional league for men’s association football clubs. At the top of the United States football league system, it is the country’s primary football competition. Contested by twenty clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Football League. Besides clubs from the United States, participation by some Gerelian clubs has been suggested. The National Soccer League is a corporation in which the twenty member clubs act as shareholders. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing thirty-eight matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away) totaling 380 matches in the season. Most games are played in the afternoons of Saturdays and Sundays, the other games during weekday evenings. It is currently sponsored by The Destiny Company and is sometimes but uncommonly referred to as the Destiny National Soccer League or the Destiny Soccer League.

The National Soccer League is about to begin its twenty-third season. Last year’s champions, which was the 2013–14 season, were Tweakavant FC, winning their second National Soccer League title. FC Raedburg placed second, only two points behind the champions when the two clashed on the final matchday and Tweakavant FC won the game 1-0. This year Tweakavant FC, FC Raedburg, and Balsak FC are heading straight into the group stage of the 2014–15 URFA Champions League, and FC Mortoge will head into the playoff round. Rockvale FC are advancing straight into the group stage of the 2014–15 URFA Zuropa League, Dynamo Sportaka are entering in the qualifying playoff round, and FC Jachtlekaar are heading in at the third qualifying round.

a. Since the winners of the 2014-15 Football League Cup, Raedburg, qualified for the Champions League based on league position, the spot awarded to the League Cup winner (Zuropa League Third qualifying round) is passed to the next best team in the table not already qualified for any Zuropean competition (in this case, the sixth-placed team). Since the two finalists of the 2014-15 National Cup, Raedburg and Mortoge, qualified for the Champions League and Zuropa League respectively based on league position, the spot was changed to the Zuropa League play-off round and the Third qualifying round spot was given to the seventh-placed team.

b. Zitru was given an extra qualification berth for the Zuropa League first qualifying round as one of the top three associations in the URFA Respect Fair Play ranking. The spot was given to Salaco after finishing on top of the National Soccer League Fair Play table.

The National Soccer League is ranked first in the URFA League Coefficient, therefore the league can send four clubs to the URFA Champions League and three clubs to the URFA Zuropa League. Qualification process for both tournaments - according to league position at the end of the season - respectively are as follows:

[b]URFA Champions League
  • First, second and third placed clubs advance straight to the URFA Champions League Group Stage
  • Fourth placed club advances to the URFA Champions League Qualification Playoff Round

URFA Zuropa League
  • Fifth placed club advances straight to the URFA Zuropa League Group Stage
  • Sixth placed club advances to the URFA Zuropa League Qualification Playoff Round
  • Winners of the National Cup advance to the URFA Zuropa League 3rd Qualifying Round1
1 If the winners of the National Cup have already qualified for either the URFA Champions League or URFA Zuropa League, the runners-up will advance to the URFA Zuropa League 3rd Qualifying Round. If the runners-up have already qualified for either tournament, the place will go to the next best placed club after the clubs who have qualified for either tournament

SPORT | National Soccer League
Tuesday Night Review

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

It’s that time again - the time that soccer fans all over the United States, and those throughout the world who follow Zitran association football. Saturday, August 16 marked the beginning of the National Soccer League, Zitru’s top flight of association football. Also, the National Soccer Championship, Zitru’s second tier of association football, began on Friday, August 8. We’re in for a whole load of classic footballing entertainment this year.

Not only is the National Soccer League currently the best league in Zurope under URFA league coefficient, it’s also the most competitive league in Zurope; one of the hardest; and regarding URFA competitions such as the Champions League and Zuropa League, its clubs are the most successful in Zurope. Last season marked the second time that Tweakavant FC won the league, and the second consecutive time. FC Raedburg finished one point below them, and the Dragons’ rivals, Balsak FC, finished third only three points behind Raedburg. This marked the 2013-14 National Soccer League season as one of the closest in Zitran soccer history.

Some of the most competitive, most deadly, and the best derbies are contested in the National Soccer League. Out of them all, FC Raedburg - Balsak FC, commonly referred to as den Klassiker in reference to both clubs’ Kai descent, is the most well-known throughout Zitru, Zurope and the world. Last season, both clubs recorded a win each from two meetings: Balsak winning the first 2-1 in 2013, and Raedburg winning the second 2-0 in 2014. The second most well known in Zitru is Tweakavant FC - FC Mortoge: last season, Tweakavant won both games 2-1.

Enough about last season - that’s in the past! This article is about this season, the 2014-15 National Soccer League season. On Saturday: FC Mortoge kicked off the season and their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over newly promoted Houston Dynamo at the Mortoge Stadium, followed by Seattle Sounders FC losing their first ever NSL game to visitors Rockvale FC. Kelltoyer FC finalized a lucky 2-0 home win over FC Nokana with a fantastic eighty-fifth minute goal. The first draw of the season was contested by newcomers D.F. United and New Massenee FC - finishing at 1-1. L.A. Galaxy opened their new NSL season with a 1-0 away win over Ahckman FC - quite a rocky start for the Hounds. FC Arkelene and Dynamo Sportaka both won 2-1, against Portland Timbers and Salaco FC respectively.

On Sunday: thirteen-time league champions FC Raedburg opened their new league campaign with a 3-0 victory over FC Jachtlekaar, which saw them soar right to the top of the table. The game looked destined to finish at 2-0 to the Dragons, before summer signing Mesut Ozil struck and made it 3-0. Tweakavant, last season’s champions defeated newly promoted FC Dallas 2-0, which is quite a weak start for the Originales. On Monday: Real Salt Lake and Balsak FC were last to play on Monday, with Balsak returning to Sacarpa with 3 points after a 3-1 victory. Salt Lake opened the scoring, but Reuzen struck in the twenty-ninth minute to end the half at 1-1. Carlos Marciano put the the Kaïn ahead in the fiftieth minute, and Reuzen got his second in the seventy-fourth minute.

Tuesday Night Review

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

The opening week of the 2014/15 National Soccer League season was excellent, arguably one of the best season openers since 1992! Let’s continue to the Tuesday Night Review of the second week! LA Galaxy, despite their fantastic opener to the season as new promotions, could only manage a goalless draw with fellow promotion FC Dallas in a very close game. In the heat of Raedburg, Balsak FC secured a strong 3-0 victory over newly promoted Seattle Sounders, and with their second defeat in a row this isn’t a very good start for Rave Green! Salaco FC avenged their 2-1 loss against Dynamo Sportaka last week, defeating Houston Dynamo 2-0 with two excellent second-half goals. FC Jachtlekaar also managed to avenge a defeat, which was a 3-0 defeat against Raedburg for them, as they only just scraped a 1-0 win against hard-fighting Portland Timbers. We add FC Nokana to our list of Avengers, as they made sure to destroy the memory of their 2-0 defeat to Kelltoyer FC last week, after beating Real Salt Lake 2-1 - and coming back from a 1-0 first-half scoreline!

The second and final draw of August 23 was contested by Rockvale FC and FC Mortoge at The Destiny Stadium. Mortoge grabbed an early goal in the seventh minute, and Rockvale bagged a last-gasp equalizer in the eighty-eighth minute. What a game! Ahckman FC defeated New Massenee FC 2-0, with the Hounds being awarded a penalty in the fifteenth minute to open the scoring. Dynamo Sportaka managed to overcome D.F. United after an intense, goalless first half. Sportaka came away with a 2-0 win and all three points. FC Arkelene and Kelltoyer FC finished August 24 off with a 0-0 draw. Kelltoyer scored two offside goals, both of which would have won the game for them otherwise as Arkelene hardly managed to attack. Last year’s league champions and last year’s National Cup champions met each other for the first time this season on August 25. Neither Tweakavant FC nor FC Raedburg could get shots past each other’s stoppers - Tweakavant’s Teremultese keeper Rodriguez, and Raedburg’s Zitran keeper Dako Zienen. The game was, however, the most intense of this week.
