Circumcision Rates in your Nation

Postby Heriel » Sun Jun 01, 2014 6:07 pm

Yesterday, Heriel's Supreme Court outlawed both cosmetic and routine circumcision (8-1), after the death of 16 boys at the National Hospital last week, and pressure from Heriel's Pedriatic and Urologist boards.
Is it legal, customary or outlawed practice in your country?

It is illegal to cosmetically modify the body of an individual under the age of 18 in a way that is irreversible without full-scale bodily augmentation. Though this does not apply to medical modifications, which usually confer significant health benefits. Circumcision is not classified as a medical modification however, as it does have serious benefits.
Adults may modify their bodies as they wish

Because of this, circumcision is illegal when done to minors but it is legal for adults to self-apply. It is rarely self-applied however, because it is quite painful and it is one thing to cause immense meaningless pain to your infant (who won't even remember it) and another thing to cause immense meaningless pain to yourself. The former is a lot easier to justify.

Circumcision is common among Alizeria's Jewish population (who make up roughly 5% of the population) and apart from that is only performed if necessary for medical reasons.

Circumcision is uncommon as it can only legally be performed on persons under the age of 18 who require it for medical reasons, though over age 18 it is permissible for either medical reasons (covered by universal health care) or cosmetic reasons (at patient's own expense).

Unknown. A study was to be carried out at several years ago, until it turned out the study was to be a visual inspection of males under 18 and the researcher was not actually a researcher in any sense of the word.

The practice is banned from being performed on minors (except for medical necessity), though adults may undergo circumcision if they wish. Needless to say, there are a lot of foreskinned males running around in the Islands.

The prevalence is rare, with roughly 1.5% circumcised. It's illegal to perform on infants outside of medical necessity.

It is both legal and commonplace. The health benefits are a primary reason, along with religious and cultural practices.

Uncommon, since circumcision is banned. Not because we are 'concerned for the infant's welfare' and all that welfare, no, it's because a Jewish practice and thus, is banned in the Reich with the punishment being death and the baby being sent to be adopted by a pure-blooded couple.

Considering that the Laurasian Empire is comprised of hundreds of thousands of different alien species with thousands of different religious faiths, sects, and denominations, the Imperial Laurasian Government and the Almitian Church have in operation extensive regulations, in regards to what particular race which you are. Laurasians, on their part, consider themselves to be the ordained "subjects of the Lord Almitis" and that Almitis created them perfect in his own image. Consequently, it is considered a sin by official church doctrine for one to perform any sort of body modifications. This includes not only circumcision but also plastic surgery, abortions, tattoes, genetic redesign or modification surgeries, birth fertilization treatments, and the like. It is thus forbidden for Laurasian males to be circumcised; there is also no need for circumcision, given the advanced medical technology which our civilization possesses. The punishment for circumcision is condemnation by officials in public, humiliation in front of assembled crowds, and the imposition of a fine. However, Laurasian law permits other alien species to circumcise their male children if they so wish. Briannians, Polonians, Goldarians, and Clancians, like Laurasians, do not circumcise their males and consider that to be a sin. Venasians however, do, believing that circumcision of the male gender is a sign of the relative positions of gender within their social context. Solidaritans, Dasians, and Arachosians circumcise their males for religious reasons, and Huntites believe that circumcision is "fulfilling to the soul". On average, about 60% of non-Laurasian alien species circumcise their males, while 40% do not.

Well, all permanent cosmetic procedures (circumcision, tattoos, electrolysis, piercings, etc.) are illegal to perform on individuals who are unable to legally request the procedure for themselves. That combined with our largely secular culture and overwhelmingly a-religious population there's very few people who would even consider the operation. Surveys place the rate at under .1%, with most circumcised individuals largely composed of first generation and highly conservative Jewish or Muslim immigrants. Even among second generations Jews and Muslims the rate drops dramatically compared to the first, and third and fourth generations the rate levels with the rest of the population. Most people don't seem to like having the surgery performed when they can remember it. Penalties for performing circumcision illegally can end up in the termination of parental guardian status. This is coupled with the fact that most Umbracium medical universities don't teach the procedure as well as the Umbracium Association of Pediatric Medicine (UAPM) reported the practice as an ineffective method of preventing medical problems.

It's uncommon, simply because there's no such equivalent practice among the Native cultures and circumcision is restricted to only the minor cultures in Saurisia (particularly the human ones, such as the Jews). It's viewed as an odd practice but overall, it's generally allowed.

The only mutilation that a Bionicle would want would be war scars visible to all who can see, not some tiny slip of skin on a reproductive organ. It is unheard of due to the fact that we have never come in contact with any Earth-universe based nation. If anything, we'd rather keep everything on there to impress potential mates.
Yes, this is an empire of Bionicle.

It's very uncommon and only practised by the Jews and Muslims who live in Arkiasis. There have been attempts to ban the procedure on infants, but the Supreme Court ruled that the proposed ban violated freedom of religion. However, even then the procedure (unless it's for medical reasons) is considered a cosmetic procedure and thus is not covered by our single-payer health care.

The exact figures are unknown of how many males are circumcised in our nation, but by studying most television broadcasts and newspapers you can deduce that probably half of the population of men are circumcised.
