Though this does not apply to medical modifications, which usually confer significant health benefits. Circumcision is not classified as a medical modification however, as it does have serious benefits.

It is rarely self-applied however, because it is quite painful and it is one thing to cause immense meaningless pain to your infant (who won't even remember it) and another thing to cause immense meaningless pain to yourself.
