The year is 2016 and it looks.... the same. Since 2014, not much has happened. The balance of power is slowly changing and peacefully. Ukraine tensions have died down now and Crimea is recognized as part of Russia. The Scottish voted "No" in the referendum, keeping the British united. NATO has pulled out of Afghanistan. Syria is now almost over with a complete siding with Assad. Elon Musk confirms that SpaceX is working on the Mars Colonial Transporter and started construction of a new launch pad in Florida in spring of 2015. Russia has finally formed the EAU with Belarus, Armenia, and Kazakhstan now starting to change the balance of power. 2015 saw the United States of America and South Korea dissolve the Combined Forces Command. With a new year ahead of the world, many game changers are possible. More nations could join the EAU. Hillary could win the election in the USA. The EU could federalize. A literal world of possibilities, ready to happen.

OOC: Hello again! This is the re-installment of the Modern World series. This is a reboot of the previous thread, but the mechanics of it are going to be entirely different. We decided to reboot in 2016 with respects to the other 2014 RP's that are successful. Most of the generic history between 2014-2016 has been worked out for us. We are going to be changing how the RP will work, that way it can be better than before and avoid those issues. Please read the entire OP as a lot has changed.

Sorry for crappy first post for the IC. Will update in the future.
*Huzzah he lives!*

Nah, son. Britain was all like "yo, why my colonies be all uppity an' shit?!" And Lord Durham laid it straight: "they be wantin' legislation with representation, dawg."

President Legshi of the Republic of Turkey stepped up to the podium on January 1st, 2016.

''Hello, my brethren in Turkey! Today we celebrate the turning of the year to 2016! While it is not perhaps a important historical date, today we begin a campaign. A campaign for the People of Earth. Not in simply the economic sector or in Foreign Policy, today we begin a campaign to stop our wasteful ways. Not only is it damaging our fragile economy., it is damaging our health. Do you enjoy seeing our brothers and sisters slow away in hunger on the streets because we let them!? Well, I didnt think so! Today begins a process of subsidation of land in Anatolia to TURKISH clean energy corporations, allowing YOU, the PEOPLE, jobs. Solar and Wind farms can be established in Anatolia, providing YOU with clean energy. Now, tell you what, wish to hear something better? Turkey will be commiting to EU membership, which would mean even MORE financial security for our glorious people! Today we begin a campaign to make life in Turkey the envy of the world. Allahu Akbar, let us celebrate our people and our progress, shall we ever advance! FOR TURKEY!''

President Legshi then turned around and walked back into the Capital building.

President Enrique Nieto approached the podium and began his address, "Senators, deputies, and Officials, the year of 2015 was not a good one for our government or our people. 2015 brought us a rise in power from the Drug cartels, and a record high of cartel related murders. It also brought us a rising rate of illegal migration to the United States, which resulted in a large decrease in revenue. The Cartels our ruining our country andtearing it aprat peice by peice. That is why I am ontroducing the Plan de la Prosperidad (Prosperity Plan).

The plan will have five focus areas that will allow us tp bring prosperoty to our nation. Those focus areas are Crime, Economy, Infrastructure, Government, and Foreign Affairs. Throughout this week I will be meeting with my Cabinet to prioritize these areas and to come up with plans for each of the areas. The plan will begin on January 7 and continue for two years, until the 2018 General Elections. The plan will see the proposal of a large number of new legislation, and hopefully the end results will prove to make Mexico most prosperous.

I am calling upon all of you to put your differences aside, and forget your party ideologies, in order to work with me. I can not effectively bring about this prosperity single handedly and I need the help of each and every one of you, whom the Mexican people have chosen to represent them. We were all chosen to represent the interest of our brothers and sisters, our neighbors, and our friends, and we must represent them to the best of our ability. We must focus on what is best for the whole of the country and not what is best for our wallets. I thank you all in advance for your support and cooperation."

President Nieto Introduces New "Prosperity Plan"
In his address to Congress today, President Nieto called for all members of congress to let go of their parties and get behind his new Prosperity Plan. The plan will focus on key areas that have been problems areas for the country. The first of those, and most important, being Crime, and more specifically the Cartels. The President obviously has high hopes for this new plan, and if it succeeds it may get his party another presidency.

Family Killed By Sinaloa Cartel
A home in Hermosillo, Sonora was set ablaze early this morning. The house was home to Jose Torres, a Mexican business owner, and his family. Torres, along with his wife, four children, and parents, were all found dead after firefighters extinguished the flames. Sources told us that Torres owed money to the Sinaloa Cartel and refused to pay, which resulted in his death. This is not the first time the Sinaloa's have done something of this nature, and it surely will not be the last as long as they remain in power.

The Republic of Korea

Image

January 1st, 2016

Seoul, Republic of Korea

As the festivities of ringing in the new year were being celebrated across the entire southern half of the Korean Peninsula, the President of the Republic of Korea was still in her office, working tirelessly to get the affairs of Korea dealt with accordingly before she could return to her leisure of watching the celebratory fireworks from her residence at the Blue House. The first order of business? Improving the economy of course, what else would be so important keep her from enjoying what is rare free time?

She had been looking at her Minister of Trade', Yoon Sang-jick, report of new economic trading partners that could prove beneficial to the prominence of Korea's economy. Of course, Russia was at the top of the list, but Park felt as if the broadness could be spread to include the entirety of the newly formed Eurasian Union. Not only improving the economies in both nations, but as well as giving the EAU their very first economic deal with an advanced nation. The confidence of the idea's success was so high within Park's thoughts, she immediately wrote it down.

The next nation on the list, Brazil. The 7th largest economy in the world, Brazil and the Republic of Korea have had, surprisingly enough, nearly no economic contact with each other. Until now that is, Park Geun-hye knew that for superior economic strength to become a reality, that trade with the higher ranked nations would become a vital part of trading technique, along with the biased trade deal that unnoticeably teetered in favor of Korea, rather than the opposing party. Thus, President Hye aspired to create a new economic technique that would accumulate in Korea's ascension to the top in terms of economic strength. She would soo begin working on a Korean-Brazilian trade deal, that would help both economies grow.

The only other country, more a collective group of, that caught the eye of Park was none other than, was the Arab League. An untouched area by former Korean president, aside from the troops who here deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, now had got the eye of the Korean President. She would try and organize a meeting between Arab League representatives and the South Korean presidency itself, in order to form some trade deal of sorts. The economic growth for Korea hadn't ceased in the 80's, rather just took a hypothetical nap and now it was to awaken from it's slumber.

After critical analysis of the Russian economic state along with the individual economies and collectivized economies of the members within the Eurasian Union, I have came to the conclusion that a need for a new economic agreement between the EAU and the Republic of Korea is now present more so than ever before. I would like to inform you that I would gladly send a Korean delegation to meet with EAU representatives so that we may discuss the composition of a economic trade deal between the EAU and the Republic of Korea.

Signed,

President Assad looked atop his fortified mansion, his presidential building. It's been 5 months after the fall of Homs from the rebels. With Homs retaken, the rebels are now scattered, battered, lost, and tired. Not that they can lose either, since the West still supports them. But it's just a matter of time before the West stop backing the rebels in this embroiled state of country in a locked condition. This is Syria, not Libya, not Tunisia, not Egypt. This! Is! Syria!

President Assad had just finished his quick meeting with his PM and cabinet, discussing various reforms aided by Russia, Iraq, and Iran, in addition to rearmament of military and the plan to crush the rebels for once and of all. Tartus Naval Base had been modernized and became both Syrian's and Russian's advantages in the Civil War, stopping cargo ships full of logistics for the rebels, capture it and distribute it to the people who support Assad. The government focusing on the recovery rates of the military while also balancing money reserves, stabilizing inflation, and fastening the rebuilding process.

Palácio do Planalto, Brasila, Brazil
January 18th, 2016President Dilma Rousseff

The meeting had been called as a general meeting, with the overall goal of looking at Brazilian policy, both domestic and foriegn. Dilma Rousseff had promised drastic change in Brazil, and this meeting was that change being put into action.

The current subject was the sorry state of the Brazilian Armed Forces. Despite the fact that Brazil had one of the largest and best funded militaries in the world, it was a shabby affair when compared to the other top nations. On average, equipment was at best ten years old, at worst, nearly half a century. The assembled ministers and generals listened as Minister of Defense Celso Amorim and General Enzo Martins Peri ran through the extensive list of out of date equipment.

President Rousseff nodded as they finished. "Something must be done about this. I think it is hardly right that we are left with the cast-off's of other nations, but we must balance the costs of this. However, there is certainly some logic to this."

Celso Amorim had a suggestion ready to be offered. Rousseff was notorious for being a harsh taskmaster, and was no above letting her cabinet know that they were not up to the job.

"I think the best solution is to fuel the growth of our own arms manufacturers. Currently, everything is in quite a embryonic stage, but if we were to get experts from, say, the former Soviet Union, to develop new designs and encourage growth of the sector by government grants, we should see expansion come quite rapidly. As for the costs, assuming we can establish ourselves in a small cut of the international market, the investment should pay itself, or at worst, subsidize the cost."

Minister of Finance, Guido Mantega, countered "But the problem is actually getting that cut of the international market. Why would they buy from us when America and Europe offer better equipment?"

Amorim had evidently planned the meeting out with Fernando da Mata Pimentel, Minister of Industry, Trade and Development. Pimentel jumped in on cue. "We'll need to entice buisness with the countries that either can't afford or have no need of their equipment. Take the any small national government, they have no need of jets and tanks, nor helicopters, even if they could afford them. Yet our national arms industry has unique experience in producing effective, low-cost equipment, something that the other major arms manufactring nations lack. The profits from that deal can then be spent on developing even more complex military hardware, say a modern light tank, than we can then sell to our Latin American allies, and so on and so forth."

This disucssion eventually brought up the possible tie-in this policy could have on Brazilian foriegn policy. Brazil was determined to forge stronger international links, and all agreed that there were excellent oppertunites to develop links with emerging African powers, nations that would benefit greatly from co-operation with Brazil. Furthermore, this was a bold diplomatic move on the world stage, as it would move Brazil away from dependence on the USA for high-technology arms, as well as a departure from pro-US policy.

Though the discussion carried on, there was a general feeling of mutual approval at the suggestion, and the President authorized Finance Minister Mantega to arrange the funding side as a drive to increase employment and the industrial sector as a whole while Rouseff agreed to get in touch with Europe and the President Obama shortly.

The next topic was foriegn affairs. Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota had a great deal to say, evidently inspired by the support for his suggestions.

"I think there is much to be done. With American approval, I suspect the Colombian government will be likely to accept Brazilian support in the war against the FARC guerrillas. The Colombians are close to beating the guerrillas, and at this stage I expect they will be more than happy to accept Brazilian support. I'll investigate this route, as it cannot hurt for Brazil to be involved for a short war that's quickly won." Everyone nodded at the wisdom of this.

"I also have a wider plan to build Pan-American ties, with the hope of expanding Mercosur to span all of Latin America. If there is agreement, here, I will place myself in communcation with the Argentine President, to see if we can co-operate to expand the economic sphere that Mercosur offers. Do I have that approval?"

There was widespread agreement, and after two more trivial issues, the meeting broke up.

____________________________________________________

President Barrack Obama,

Our nations have enjoyed close historical ties, and I hope to bring our nations closer together in prosperity.

I am writing to ask if America would tolerate Brazilian involvement in Colombia, in the war against FARC. We belive that the Colombian government would be glad of support, and have held of asking until we have sounded these intensions with the American government.

Furthermore, I would like to arrange a meeting with you at some future date to discuss Brazilian regional diplomacy in Latin America and how it impacts American foriegn affairs. As you are understandably busy, please feel free to conduct this meeting at your leisure.

Finally, I would like to enquire the possibility of Brazil purchasing a decomissioned American aircraft carrier, preferably the USS Kitty Hawk, for Brazilian use.

Sincerely, President Dilma Rousseff
President of Brazil.

Chancellor Angela Merkel,

As you are no doubt aware, the Brazilian and German nations are economic powerhouses in their respective regions, and in the interest of furthering our mutual interests, I would like to present the following offer, which, Due to the current ecoomic situation in Europe, I think you will find the following offer quite agreeable:-

- The signing of a economic agreement encouraging investment in the Brazilian technology and electronics sector and closer economic ties between Brazil and Germany, with the German goverment using it's extensive influence in the EU to support comparable treaties to other EU member nations.
- The simplification of the processes of international buisness between Brazil and Germany, allowing buissness between our respective nations to be quicker and more streamlined.
- The opening of talks to determine within the German and Brazilian defence industries can co-operate on some as-yet undisclosed projects.

If you have any suggestions or issues with this proposal, we would be more than interested in discussing and resolving them.

Sincerely, President Dilma Rousseff
President of Brazil.

President Putin,

Brazil and the Russian Federation have not enjoyed close ties either diplomaticaly or economicaly, much to the detriment of both nations. With the growth of Brazil as a world power, we have found oursevles in the awkward position of a first-rate economic power with a third rate military.

We would like to propose an agreement that allows us to draw of the extensive military tradition of the Russian Armed Forces. To that end, we would seek closer ties between our nations, as well as an agreement whereby Russian military specialists and technicical experts would endevour to assist in the modernization of the Brazilian military and insitute reforms to bring Brazil's position forward.

In addition, if your government is willing, the Brazilian government would like to discuss the possibility of a technology transfer, with Brazil purchasing the following weapons systems:-
- BrahMos anti-ship missile
- Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile
- S-400 surface-to-air missile system

Furthermore, seeking to further international ties abroad, the Brazilian nation would like to raise the possibility of closer diplomatic and commercial ties with the Russian nation.

Sincerely, President Dilma Rousseff
President of Brazil.

Dear the Chairman of the Supreme Military Council of The Free Syrian Army,

Hello, Mr Chairman. After the annexation and heavily suspected massacre in Homs, Turkey wishes to aid you in your struggle for freedom against Assad's dictatorship regieme. We propose you send your military commanders to secure locations in Turkey where Turkish Military Advisers may advise you on strategy and training methods. Turkey also offers a assortment of AK47s and ammo for weapons, heavily regretting due to the weapon's age, but for it to be a NATO firearm, heavy international sanctions would come of Turkey. Any other requests can be made whilst at the meeting. The location for the meeting will be attatched with this leader.

Signed, Prime Minster Erdogan.

It's not obvious to see thousands and thousands of government soldiers on streets, especially after the fall of the rebels with their loss of Homs, effectively cutting them off from the supply they need, and from reinforcements from other groups, even the Al-Qaeda as well. NDF and SAF began to patrolling the controlled cities, the Navy began to patrol the coastal from the ships bent on supplying the rebels. The humanitarian aid had been allowed and the international civilian officers had been allowed to be in the humanitarian camp and to take care of the refugees while the Syrian government began to rebuild the residential and commercial places.

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, today has been thinking of producing more oil and not losing the position of the world's largest oil exporters. The organization in Arabia who is focusing on oil is now gonna be building more Platforms on water. Saudi Arabia is the land where the most known terrorist organization is still living, the Al-Qaeda. There is a need to send out the Saudi Armed Forces, to kill terrorist scum. Everybody hopes that no terrorist attacks shall happen, neither on the Capitol or any other city. For now, King Abdullah is planning to ally with a lot of Nations, to keep peace between Saudi Arabia and the other Nation. Anyway, the Saudi Armed Forces are looking for more good skilled men, that means they're recruiting!

We can supply half of the currency required for such a operation, as it is only fair to split it. Also, we request docking permission for Naval ships on the eastern side of your great country (You can pick the port).

The Republic of Korea

Image

January 3rd, 2016

Seoul, Republic of Korea

The festivities had finally subsided in Korea, and with the leisure spent well by President Park Geun-hye, it was time to return to business. She immediately began scouring the her e-mail as she had been anxiously awaiting a response from either of the two parties she sent a message to. To her relief, an Arab League secretariat of Syrian origin responded to her wishes to begin trade. The secretariat simply stayed put with the response of "I'll try to get us there, but don't expect it.", a very disappointing response indeed. Though she was displeased with the Arab League's response, she still had hope that the Russian Federation would take her up on her offer as they are most certainly thirst for their first act of diplomacy with an outside party.

While she had been celebrating the new year, she had asked that Yoon Sang-jick, the Korean minister of trade, formulate a trade deal with the Brazilian nation. Yoon had informed that to get a trade deal that would benefit the Republic of Korea in a way that was almost indistinguishable by the opposite party was all if they could form a trade deal with the Eurasian Union. Yoon's current strategy was to either attain oil and natural gases by either cheap or free trade, then he would turn around and get the fuel resources they were receiving from the EAU and market it off to larger economies who were dependent on such resources for a slightly hiked up price, one that would give Korea a large profit over the years. Park seen the plan as an ingenious one to say the least, and agreed to wait upon a Eurasian trade deal before moving on to Brazil.

Along with the information Yoon had given Park was a new trading possibility. This opportunity for trade being in India, who's main imports were some of Korea main exports or could easily be produced for trade with India. Being the 10th largest economy, higher than the ranking of Korea's, was a tempting appetizer for Park's economic decision-making. After the debating had conclude within herself, she decided to quickly write out an offer for the Indians. If it were to fail, the Park would graciously accept failure at it's finest. If it succeeded however, she would recognize this as an important stepping stone to growing the Korean economy even further.

Then finally, another trade partner was brought into the discussion. The owner of the 14th largest economy by nominal standards, Mexico. Mexico had already been in discussion with the Republic of Korea about a free trade agreement for quite some time now, Park realized the both parties wanted the FTA just as much as the other. With Mexico's main exports being of significant quality to many other nations, but not as much in Korea as they produce many of the same products as well, Park concluded that the surplus in products could be turned around and traded to a third party. The economic work Park was putting in was already shaping up to become a great triumph, and it's only been three days into the new year!

It has came to my attention that the economic relationship between the Republic of India and the Republic of Korea is almost nonexistent. This is simply unacceptable, hopefully not just by my own standards but by yours as well. We are the leaders of two of the largest economies on the planet Earth, but yet, we have had fairly no economic activity with each other. Today, I ask of you to help me make that become a thing of the past. Today, I offer you a trade deal between our two nations, one that will serve to the greater good of both our economies and hopefully see their mutual growth as well. Without further ado, here is my offer.

The signing of this agreement hereby affirms that the Republic of India and the Republic of Korea shall commence trading products that are listed with in this agreement. The Korean-India Trade Agreement (KITA) will stand for a total number of five(5) years before this agreement becomes invalid as such, however, if a party comes to the agreement of all parties involved, then this trade agreement can be reaffirmed to another total of five(5) years. With consultation and agreement of all parties, the agreement may be amended to include new aspects of trade that were not deemed valuable at an earlier date. As part of the KITA, the Korean government agrees to trade all of the following products;

  • Wireless telecommunication equipment
  • Steel
  • Petrochemical and petrochemical products
  • Fertilizer
  • Machinery equipment
  • Computers

The Korean government agrees to trade the mass shipments of all the products above for 5 years at the cheap price of 150 billion USD for the first year, 200 billion the second, 250 billion the third, 290 billion the fourth, and 300 billion for the final and fifth year. The high amount is the assurance to meet inflation that may arise in the next few years.

Also as part of the KITA, the Indian government will agree to trade the following products in return for the Korean products being traded to the Republic of India;

  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Machinery and equipment
  • Organic chemicals

The Indian government will agree to trade the shipments of all products listed above for 5 years at the price of 100 billion the first year, 150 billion the second, 175 billion the third, 200 billion the fourth, and 215 billion the final year.

Signed,
Park Geun-hye

It has become apparent that after nearly 2 years of negotiations that our nations are more than enthusiastic about attaining a free trade agreement with each other. Though I am enthusiastic of our nation's economic abilities together, I have grown wary of our negotiations. That is why today, I offer the United Mexican States the offer we have been working towards for nearly 2 years, the Korean-Mexican Free Trade Agreement.

The signing of this agreement hereby affirms that the United Mexican States and the Republic of Korea shall commence trading products that are listed within this agreement. The Korean-Mexican Free Trade Agreement (KMFTA) will stand for a total number of five(5) years before this agreement becomes invalid as such, however, if a party comes to the agreement with all parties involved, then this trade agreement can be reaffirmed to another total of five(5) years. With consultation and agreement of all parties, the agreement may also be amended to include new aspects of trade that were not deemed valuable at an earlier date. As part of the KMFTA, the Korean government agrees to trade all of the following products;

  • Motor Vehicle equipment
  • Steel
  • Petrochemical and petrochemical products
  • Semiconductors and equipment
  • Machinery equipment
  • Electronics

The Korean government agrees to trade the mass shipments of all the products above for 5 years at no price as per this 'Free' Trade Agreement, however it does expect certain products to be traded in return.

As part of the KMFTA, the Mexican government will agree to trade the following products in return for the Korean products being traded to the United Mexican States;

  • Oil
  • Silver
  • Foodstuff products
  • Aircraft

The Indian government will agree to trade the shipments of all products listed above for 5 years at no price per this 'Free' Trade Agreement, however it does expect certain products to be traded in return.

Signed,
Park Geun-hye

STATE OF ISRAEL
Image

January 3rd, 2016
Jerusalem, State of Israel
The Government of Israel was in full swing. People of all rank and branch were scrambling to get the new government, originally reformed in 2014 still into order. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said that they'd be ready by 2016. The deadline was already technically here, and some of the changes had still yet to take effect. The Military was already done. Completed in 2015, the IDF had been divided into 5 new branches; the Israeli Armed Forces; which was the equivalent of the Army, the Israeli Air Corps; known more commonly referred to as just the Air Corps, the Israeli Republican Navy, the Israeli National Guard, and the Minorities Unit, which is actually a sub-branch for each of the 4 main sub-branches, but was considered to be its own branch.
The government was an entirely different story. They still needed to officially organize the political parties, and had to accommodate new agencies and departments, and had to decide what the next best action with Palestine was.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sat at his desk. Today was the final day. The government was almost in order, and the elections he had promised would follow. For the sake of Israel, he had put his Prime Minister spot a year up ahead of schedule, in order to finish the changes for his government and attempt to reform the political system. The Knesset had not liked what had happened, and those now not part of Parliament were wealthy landowners sitting on a beach in Tel-Aviv at this point. But Netanyahu had had to sacrifice too. After the elections, his government reforms and all the rebuilding might not matter. He might not be re-elected. Netanyahu had reformed his combined party into what was simply known as the Conservative Party. They wished to maintain the current standard of government, after the revisions of course, and to keep ties with Palestine as small and miniscule as they were now. Netanyahu's opponent was the Social-Democratic Party led by Isaac Herzog. There were 4 independents, and 6 parliamentary Senators in the Social-Democratic Party, whereas with the Conservative Party there were 8 Senators. With all the independents help, or the majority of them, the Social-Democrats could win. Only time would tell who would win, as the members of Parliament entered each their own private chamber to cast.

Jerusalem, Israel
The elections were finished. The result: All 4 independents had voted for Netanyahu, making the results 12-6, and the Conservatives retaining power. As Netanyahu walked out of the chambers, and waved to the people as they realized he had retained his position, an idea had sprung to his head, while waiting for the results; strengthen the Israeli Republican Navy's fleet. He sent a message to the U.S President, as he thought of this idea. It read:
TO: White House
FROM: President Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel
Hello sir or sirs, depending upon who reads this faithful message. I have retained my spot as Israeli Prime Minister for another 4 years, meaning I have plenty of time to become even more friends with the United States and its leadership. As my first order of business, it would be an honor if you could consider my offer of selling Israel old and inactive naval ships, such as the USS Saratoga, for a discounted price due to our mutual and political agreements, and the fact that these ships are old and will likely never be sold. I will pay more than scrappers would, but less than you would sell them to a regular foreign entity to. Please consider my offer. Israel's top interests right now or as follows: At least 1 Carrier, Any number of Cruisers it can possess, and 2-3 Frigates. Thank You Mr. President

Our intelligence agency has found that Israel is trying to buy high quality military equipment from the Imperialist United States. We have a feeling that South Korea will do the same. I request that you can secretly deploy 15 of my spies in your embassy in Seoul. I'm putting my military readiness level up. We need to talk immediately.

Palácio do Planalto, Brasila, Brazil
Febuary 2nd, 2016 President Dilma Rousseff

The cabinet meeting was an odd one: first, instead of the usual faces of government ministers were joined by a gaggle of economic experts that had been invited to take part in the discussion and secondly, only two items were on the agenda, with the rest to be dealt with at a later meeting. Rousseff was a woman who was capable of taking advice, and inviting a half-dozen men and two women with extensive talent and experience in the matter of economics was her idea.

The first topic of discussion had been Mercosul, or as most of South America called it, Mercosur.

The organization had been established to promote free trade, a common market and increase prosperity in South America. While it had been sucessful to an extent, the Argentine economic collapse, discord between the member nations and the emergence of the Pacific Alliance trading bloc had reduced the prospects of Mercosul. The huge success of a common market in unifying Western European diplomacy and preventing military conflicts from breaking out was not lost on Rousseff, and she was eager to see the same thing carried out in South America. The economic effects were secondary to this, in her mind.

These failings were in turn pointed out by the invited experts, who had been working with Finance Minister Guido Mantega, who went on to paint a bleak picture of the prospects for Mercosul: the Andean nations were forming their own bloc with Mexican involvement, and relations between the two trading zones were not as open as they could be, and mostly depended upon Bolivia to act as a mediator.

Rousseff let the experts say their part before asking them what could be done to re-invigorate the hope for a common South American market. One of the female experts proposed seeking to involve Mexico, which was a proposal backed by the rest of the experts. A great deal of the wealth of South America was split between Brazil and Mexico, and with Argentina included, the three countries would possess over a third.

A consensus quickly developed to approach the Mexican and Argentine governments to explore the possibility of a trade pact uniting the three nations. If Buenos Aires and Mexico City were supportive of the idea, much of South America would likely follow: the three nations not only included the three largest economies, but also two of the major South American powers and regional leaders.

The meeting passed on to the second point of discussion: the Brazilian economy.

Growth was slowing, foriegn investment slacking off and the Brazilian economy was being viewed as becoming increasingly fragile. Rousseff's Worker's Party was commited to keeping the Brazilian economy strong, and to that end, she outlined her proposed policy to the assembled experts: state-funded projects to further develop infrastructure and communications links within Brazil and with her neighbours, increasing tax-breaks and loans on low rates for new buissnesses, increase development of key industries and seeking to foster economic ties on the international stage.

There was some debate amongst the experts as to the economic value of the first two proposals, but Rousseff, directly intervened for the first time in the meeting, stating that those decisions were not just economic matters, ending the quibling on them.

The last two met with the approval of all, as Brazil's imports of machinery, equipment and electronics, amongst other things, was well-known. While Brazil ran a trade surplus, the possibility of increasing that surplus by developing domestic industries existed, and Rousseff intented to make it a reality. Combined with this would be a bid to improve international links to boost exports and increase investment. While the German government had not responded to offers to improve economic relations, the Brazilian President was willing to try elsewhere, and Brazil had a extensive list of major trading partners.

After the experts had been thanked by their President for helping is such a vital way to shape Brazilian policy, the meeting broke up, and Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota was ordered to make the diplomatic communications that the meeting had approved of.

To: Enrique Peña Nieto, President of the United Mexican States
From: Antonio Patriota, Ministry of External Relations for Brazil
Subject: Improved Economic Ties

With the increasing economic development of both our nations being complicated by international events, I have been instructed to write to you on behalf of my government to explore the possibility of an economic agreement between our nations. This agreement would consist of the establishment of a free trade area between our nations, as well as a customs union and the simplifcation of travel between our nations.

Mexican membership of Mercosul as an observer has highlighted the interest that Mexico holds for South American economic co-operation. As our nations together represent a significant economic entity in South America, it is the hope of my government that this agreement leads to greater economic prosperity for our nations, as well as serving to promote increased economic unity in South America.

It is the hope of my government that the Mexican government would find such a proposal acceptable, and would take an active part in promoting and encouraging other South American nations in an effort to unite South America under a common market.

Signed,
Antonio Patriota
Ministry of External Relations for Brazil

To: Park Geun-hye, President of the Republic of Korea
From: Antonio Patriota, Ministry of External Relations for Brazil
Subject: Trade and Investment Discussions

My government would like to open negoations as to the possibility of a new trade treaty, with the goal of mutual economic development, better strategic security and furthering the welfare of both our nations.

The main points of the treaty would be as follows:

- The sponsored transfer of South Korean experts in the electronics and manufacturing industry to assist the development of this sector in Brazil.
- The sponsored transfer of Brazilian experts in the renewable energy sector (bio-gas and hydroelectric) to assist in the growth of this sector in South Korea.
- A free-trade agreement between both nations, with the goal of increasing the quantity of South Korean manufactured goods as well as Brazilian raw materials being traded between our nations.
- The promotion and encouragement of investments between both nations.

It is the hope of my government that the South Korean government finds this proposal of interest and would be willing to consider the possibility of a new trade treaty.

National Assembly, Algiers

"... and so with much accord and determination do we find our country struggling for the sovereignty achieved decades earlier which under siege by militants who's sole purpose is the consumption of this beautiful nation by anarchy and chaos. Much blood has been shed since the start of this mindless and... blunt pointless insurgency by whom kill innocent Algerians for no apparent reason other than savage satisfaction. Our prestige as a nation is under assault we are slowly descending into instability which by any means our people and own administrative personnel would grow weary and skeptical of our efforts and ambition, they would rightfully question our ability to keep them safe and ensure the security of there welfare and well being. Therefore I ask this assembly to increase social welfare spending. With our priority being the people and their well being welfare will only strengthen their confidence and restore their hope in this administration. It should be our duty to consolidate the serenity this nation once new and the peace it grew upon. Thank you"

The Assembly clapped in superficial veneer of approval, many of the Assemblymen were tired of seeing the face of the 80 year old Bouteflicka. He stepped down waving slowly as his joints screamed pain with every sway back and forth. His smile was weary and the muscles in his cheeks and lips struggled to keep the very small smile aloft. His aides rushed him and secret police and Presidential Guard swarmed him. Many of the Assemblymen whispered as they continued to clap, until they were assured that Bouteflicka exited the building. Bouteflicka entered his motorcade with the help of his Prime Minister where he was then instructed to begin a Cabinet meeting over the phone in his car, regarding oil development, new energy export initiatives overseas specifically in the Far East, and the insurgency ravaging the Mountains in the Tell Atlas Range.

Safir Restaurant, Algiers

A man wearing a formal military uniform entered the massive waiting room of the restaurants front entrance. A huge chandelier hung above the waterfront made of pure white marble. He approached the attendant at the podium who spoke fluent French,
"Bonsoir, comment puis-je vous aider?"

The man replied,
"Colonel Khaled Al-Assad, Je suis ici rencontrer un groupe de cinq."
The attendant looked through the computer and spoke,
" Ah yes, I'm terribly sorry for the wait Colonel. Please follow me this way. Your group has been waiting for you."
The attendant lead Al-Assad to a table in the corner of the restaurant. Al-Assad thanked the attendant, pulled a chair out and greeted the men at the table who also bore military uniforms from various secs pf the military.

"Gentlemen.", Al-Assad spoke gently and cordially,"... thank you all for coming to this meeting. I understand that all of you as well as your men believe the ailing Bouteflika to be not as effective as he was before. Quite frankly I have grown weary and tired of his social policy charades. Algeria needs a strong man who can finally end this petty insurgency and lead the people to true porgress. Now I have convened this meeting to speak of you such changes than need to made and tell you if force is needed. There are initially 2 paths our plan can go, I will enlighten you on both. The initial plan was to forcefully enter the National Palace with an armed group and demand that Bouteflicka resign and step down from power. If he should not do so, then the only other option is to initiate the coup phase where you gentlemen will come into play, its time for this senile fool to be replaced with a new face for Algeria."

Gen. Ackbar controlled both the Oran and Annaba garrisons, sipped his wine cleared his throat and began,
" I have 56,000 men under my control with a meager 66 tanks and 78 armored in my garages. There are about 4 armories that have jeeps and trucks that would be essential for our forces to easily be transported around, however, once they receive word of a possible coup they could remain loyal to Bouteflika. My men have the utter allegiance to me which I have pledged to you Al-Assad I'm investing in you my trust. Therefore, I will mobilize my forces and seize Oran and Annaba for you. These port cities will be essential for our Navy. Once under our control, I will send them along the Al Jaza ir highway heading for Algiers."

Air Marshall Khazan then spoke,
" I have 166 Fighters under my wing, but only 90 are operational. I need about a week to ready the rest best I can. I will initially scramble only 50 of my fighters to begin the apprehension of the skies, our biggest task will be the Territorial Air Defense Force they don't posses many fighters bu they hold substantial AA weaponry. I advise the army to add them as a critical target. I only know a few depot's that hold AA guns and mobile SAM's if we can get to them first it would help us in the long run. Considering eliminating the TADF we shouldn't have much of a problem controlling the skies. On you command we will begin airstrikes if need be. If we control the skies it would b]make it significantly easier for our ground forces to move without worries of Hawk predators."

Admiral Hussein then put in his plan,
" I have only 2 warships and 8 frigates in my dockyards. My plan is to help General Ackbar take Oran and Annaba then once he begins moving his forces towards Algiers I shall set sail for there as well. There are only 3 other warships and maybe 6 to 7 frigates under the control of another Admiral but his allegiance to Bouteflicka is questionable. I will consider him hostile should he prove to be an obstacle to our agenda. I will provide naval support for the time being, ordering naval strikes only at strategic positions."

Gen. Azizz commander of the Constantine and Tlemcen garrisons finally spoke,
" I have 65,000 men under my command, they too have pledged loyalty to our cause. I will secure Constantine and Tlemcen, it would provide a sort of defensive barrier to any other armies trying to come to Bouteflika's aid. There are 6 armories in my region, my secretary assured me that a total of 58 tanks, 43 armored cars and 76 trucks have all together been stored in the garges not to mention the abundance of artillery pieces, small arms, and supplies stored in these armories I have only scouted 2 major supply depots in the area I will task some company's to capture it. I will secure major railroads as, the Sahat al Arab railway is the main railway I have been eying."

Co.Khaled Al-Assad drank some of his wine, he looked down then looked back up at his men with a grin,
" Gentlemen, you have reassured me of your loyalty and your abilities. Therefore, now I express to you my role in this affair. As you may know I command all 40,000 of the Republican Guard force. Not to mention I have also persuaded 10,000 of the reservists to join in with promises of pay raises and increased government benefits and such. The major airfield in Oran will prove useful and I understand that Air Marshall Khazan you have about 15 cargo planes stored in your hangar?"

Khazan looked at him surprised a bit,
" Uhh.. uh yes I do but there not really serviceable I could try to patch up maybe 10 of them but I wouldn't recommend using them. They're hazardous and major problems have occurred with flight tests, they're... plain death traps."

Al-Assad laughed,
" It's a sacrifice I'm willing to take ready all 15 I'm going to prepare my own force of 3500 paratroopers to send over to your hangars, suit them up. They'll paradrop over important government buildings and communications networks. In the meantime, my men specialize in mobile warfare and tactics therefore my command will be constantly on the move. I ask for you to secure important communication lines and be sure they are secured and cannot be broken. I foresee the insurgents having a field day at the start of the coup so be aware of fighting off two enemies. I cannot stress enough to friendly fire on our own troops everyone will look the same out there. Be careful. We risk Algeria descending into a long, bloody, and brutal civil war if we do not execute our plan precisely, accurately, and correctly. Gentlemen, the winds of change will come to Algeria and we will not deny the people of Algeria the progress and wealth it deserves."

A small clap erupted from the table and each man held up their glasses and cheered to Algeria. Al-Assad then gestured for the waiter to come and take their orders. The night was young and each man ate and drank well into the ear hours of the morning.

5.40 PM Arrive at the Kaesong Industrial Park. I've closed it but I'd like to reopen it with some Saudi Arabian companies manufacturing in it. We'll spend two hours here looking at the facillities.
9.20PM Arrive back at Pyongyang Airport for the flight to leave.
Some of the visit will be shown on Korean Central Television. We'd like to know would you like to broadcast some of it on Saudi TV 1?
Yours
Kim Jong Un, Supreme Leader of North Korea.

TO: Democratic People's Republic of Korea
FROM: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia will be allowing the North Koreans to build a embassy in Riyadh, while the Arabs will be building one in Pyongyang. And yes, some moments we will allow on to broadcast at Saudi TV 1. Purchases of military equipment and other will be on later, cause Saudi Arabia and North Korea have to make better relations.
