Creationism disproved?

Postby Ventaura » Tue Apr 01, 2014 9:35 am

Could Neil deGrasse Tyson have disproved creationism?http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/31/neil-degrasse-tyson-creationism_n_5065156.html#slide=1191136

You don't need to disprove that which has no proof. Tyson simply hit another nail in the coffin. There are already millions of nails, but another is good.

no he just showed scientific data that the universe is over 6,500 years old.

I'm sure there is also evidence of how 2 people could not populate a planet.
Or how a boat could not hold 2 of every species.
etc....

Yet faith beats reason.....

Pretty sure it didn't need further "disproving" at this point, people who still debate this shit are just beating a dead horse.

This disproves New Earth creationism, which is silly because there's trees older than 6.5k years old. This doesn't disprove a deity creating the universe earlier in time, such as being the cause of the Big Bang or somesuch. I'm an atheist but Tyson was just disproving New Earth creationism, which should be blatantly false to even many religious people. I'm an atheist, and accept the evidence for a purely scientific origin, but this specific article isn't really disproving all forms of creationism. Such as Old Earth creationism.

When people say "creationism" they typically mean the whole American evangelican "world 6000 years old" creationism. Honestly though, I wish a smart guy like Neil deGrasse would talk about more pressing issues like the economy, instead of ripping into these dumb creationists who have been battered and disproven a trillion times.

Just keep in mind that there is young earth and old earth creationism. The reason the young earth creationists exist is because this 17th century bishop added up all the dates in the Bible and came up with a figure of the Earth being around 5,000 years old.
The old earth creationists which includes Pat Robertson, accept that the Earth is billions of years old but don't have their faith in God swayed.

"Right now, NASA's annual budget is half a penny on your tax dollar. For twice that—a penny on a dollar—we can transform the country from a sullen, dispirited nation, weary of economic struggle, to one where it has reclaimed its 20th century birthright to dream of tomorrow".

Neil has come out with gold like this before, so why he wastes his breath on talking about archaic beliefs like creationism is beyond me. People need to stop giving these guys so much attention.

PR mostly. He's using agnostic as a way to avoid calling himself an atheist. The public wouldn't understand agnostic atheist as a concept.

He didn't disprove it. You CANNOT disprove something that has not only never been credible, but has so utterly disproven as to not need any further nails. Only the weak in faith need their creationism.

I was taking about Nekronia, in his post he said 'I'm an atheist' twice in consecutive sentences. It was supposed to be a funny.

In irreligious places like Sweden, the term "Atheist" is an insult. Most prefer to be considered "Agnostic".

You really think there would be an article on such? I know from interaction, I usually ask them their religions and most say ”Agnostic”, and then I always give them the ”Why not Atheist?”. And then they go on about how they dont hate religious people, but arent religious themselves. They take ”Atheist” like one would take ”Racist”.

Try a better April Fool's joke. If it's done daily on this website as satire, there's no need for it today.
