Confederations Cup Schedule and Results Thread (Invite-Only)

Postby Saintland » Mon Nov 18, 2013 6:12 pm

The only people who should be posting in this thread are myself, a mod or admin (in the act of performing their duties) or somebody whom I have authorized to scorinate the current edition of the Confederations Cup on my behalf. Those posting in this thread without permission will be ineligible to compete in future Confederations Cups.

What is the Confederations Cup?

The Confederations Cup is an invitational friendly tournament between the champions of the various association football tournaments on NS Sports. It is the NS Sports equivalent of the RL Confederations Cup.

When is the Confederations Cup held?

Each edition of the Confederations Cup should be held after the final of the Baptism of Fire and prior to the World Cup draw, if possible. If that is not possible, it should nonetheless be held after the conclusion of the Baptism of Fire and prior to the start of the World Cup.

How is the Confederations Cup RPed?

RPs regarding the Confederations Cup belong in the World Cup RP Thread for the current edition of the World Cup. Rosters for the Confederations Cup belong in the World Cup Roster Thread for the current edition of the World Cup. Any RPs, rosters, signup posts, OOC posts or other unrelated posts in this thread will be considered spam. RP bonus will not be taken into account for the Confederations Cup.

How do I get an invite to the Confederations Cup

There are 8 ways to qualify for the Confederations Cup:

  1. Co-host the current edition of the World Cup
  2. Win the previous edition of the World Cup
  3. Win the previous edition of the Cup of Harmony
  4. Win the most recent edition of AOCAF
  5. Win the most recent edition of the Copa Rushmori
  6. Win the most recent edition of the Campionato Esportiva
  7. Win the Baptism of Fire for that edition of the World Cup
  8. Be invited for an at-large spot in the event that:
  • a) An eligible nation refuses their invitation
  • b) An nation qualifies through more than 1 of the means for qualification.
  • c) a qualified nation is not signed up for that edition of the World Cup

This criteria are subject to revision, in the event that it becomes necessary. At-large invites will be determined according to the discretion of the scorinator.

I've qualified for the Confederations Cup. How do I accept my invite?

If your nation has qualified for the Confederations Cup, you may accept your invite by TGing Saintland (or whomever I designate to scorinate an edition of the Confederations Cup) and clearly stating in the TG that you accept your invite. Alternatively, I will TG you at some point during the BoF to inquire regarding your acceptance or non-acceptance of your invite. After the invites are officially sent out and at least one invite has been accepted, I will put up a post in this thread, which will include the list of accepted invites.

Prior to the BoF final, I will TG both BoF finalists regarding their acceptance or non-acceptance of a potential invite to the Confederations Cup.

Where is the Confederations Cup hosted (ICly)?

The first preference is to host the Confederations Cup in one or both of the nations co-hosting the current edition of the World Cup. This is conditional upon the World Cup co-host(s) submitting the relevant information. Either World Cup co-host may also request to scorinate the Confederations Cup, if they desire to do so.

In the event that both World Cup co-hosts decline to host the Confederations Cup, the choice of host is up to my discretion, with the most likely choice being the Free Republics.

Will this use the Casaran? Why are you going forward with this, even though your World Cup bid lost?

The Casaran will not be used for the Confederations Cup, unless it is being used as the format for the current World Cup Finals, in lieu of a Group Stage. The Confederations Cup will mirror the format of the upcoming World Cup Finals as much as possible, but with 8 nations instead of 32.

When I first mentioned the Confederations Cup, along with my bid for World Cup 67, I said I would go forward with it, whether the bid won or lost. I will do so.

Welcome to the Confederations Cup!
The Confederations Cup is an invitational tournament held prior to World Cup qualifying that is meant to pit the champions of the most prominent association football tournaments against one another, as well as offering the host nations of the next World Cup the opportunity to test out their players against some of those who they might face once the World Cup finals begin.

Though first proposed as part of the unsuccessful Saintland-Legalese bid for the World Cup, the Equestrian States and Cassadaigua have decided to press forward with holding the event after the Sanctii refused to accept defeat in the fair election of hosts and withdrew their team from the World Cup in a boycott that has yet to be joined by anyone. The Equestrian States and Cassadaigua look forward to welcoming some of the multiverse's best teams for the tournament, which will compete for the opportunity to claim the inaugural Confederations Cup title at the glistening palace that is Royal Equestria Stadium in Canterlot.

Participants

#4 - Image Eura :: World Cup 66 Winners
Eura Victor! Many were surprised when the Eurans toppled Polar Islandstates in the last World Cup final to clinch their first title and prolong the suffering of the Polarian faithful; but at least for that one day, Eura was on top of the world. However, the defending world champions will have their work cut out for them if they are to repeat, and the Confederations Cup should provide the Euran coaching staff with the opportunity to test their players against other top teams before wading into the qualifiers.

#6 - Image Osarius :: At-Large (AOCAF Cup 42 Runners-up)
The Osarians didn't get here via the most direct route. In the AOCAF Cup, the Firebirds escaped what most considered the tournament's group of death, slipped through the knockout rounds to the final thanks to a couple narrow wins in penalty shootouts, and finally fell victim to the team from Vilita & Turori in a rather lopsided final. However, when the Confederations Cup's organizing committee failed to receive a clear letter accepting the invitation sent to both the associations that won the AOCAF Cup, they felt it would be improper to have the region with the most World Cup titles go unrepresented in the tournament. Thus, the Osarians are here as the lone representatives of Atlantian Oceania, a fact that will likely be criticized by that region's media.

#16 - Image Saugeais :: Copa Rushmori 16 & Cup of Harmony 58 Winners
Though they missed out on the World Cup finals, Saugeais has since made it clear that their failure to qualify was not an indicator for the direction of the team. After overcoming heavy favorites Andossa Se Mitrin Vega in their Cup of Harmony semifinal meeting, the Knights proceeded to rout Apox en route to a title. But Saugeais wasn't done yet, storming through the field at the Copa Rushmori before tearing apart Eura 4-1 in the Final. The Saugeains look like a team hell-bent on returning to the center of the world stage, and might get another boost with a strong outing at the Confederations Cup.

#18 - Image Equestrian States :: World Cup 67 Hosts
The first of the two host nations for the upcoming World Cup, the Equestrian States has been a rising power on the international scene for the last few years. Boasting an impressive qualifying record of 33-11-2 since World Cup 64, the Ponies have drawn praise from numerous pundits, even being compared to The Holy Empire by some. However, despite being practically unstoppable in qualifying, the Equestrian States has yet to advance to the second round once in their three finals appearances, finding themselves eliminated on the last day of the group stage each time much to the disappointment of their long-suffering supporters.

#33 - Image Apox :: At-Large (Cup of Harmony 58 Runners-up)
One of three Esportivan national teams competing in this tournament, Apox has risen to moderate prominence in the last few years thanks to a few recent successful cycles. After missing out on the World Cup 66 finals, the Apoxians overcame a difficult start to their Cup of Harmony, defeating early favorites Taeshan en route to a surprise berth in the tournament's final. There they fell against a particularly determined squad from Saugeais, but still helped overcome some of the disappointment of failing to qualify.

#49 - Image New Sideburn :: Campionato Esportiva 8 Winners
Another rising power from Esportiva, New Sideburn boasts a team which joined the international scene and immediately began to see success. First winning their Baptism of Fire before challenging some of the world's top teams in their World Cup qualifying debut, the Cormorants have also claimed two regional titles in a very short period of time. Though New Sideburn has yet to qualify for a World Cup, most consider it just a matter of time before they make it through to the finals.

#58 - Image Cassadiauga :: World Cup 67 Hosts
Though Cassadaigua may have fallen upon difficult times in recent years after once being considered among the world's best, the Dagans can only hope that hosting the World Cup will give them a much-needed boost back towards the top. But for now, Cassadaigua will certainly relish the opportunity to pit their national team against some of the best the multiverse has to offer. The Dagans have their work cut out for them, but only a fool would consider their plight hopeless. After all, this is the same nation which has produced two World Cup-winning teams in the past and could very well do the same again.

#178 - Image Buyan :: Baptism of Fire 54 Winners
Fresh off an undefeated campaign in the Baptism of Fire, Buyan has a promising national team that already looks like one which could qualify for the World Cup given a few cycles to gain much-needed experience. At the Confederations Cup, they will face opponents that will test the debuting team to its limits and probably a fair bit beyond those. Still, this will be a chance for Buyan to get a taste of what is to come in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and should help them adjust faster than they might have otherwise.

Tournament Schedule

Match Day 2 - 4v3 / 1v2
Match Day 3 - 2v4 / 3v1

Knockout Stage
Following the group stage, the top two teams from both groups will advance to the semifinals, which will be scorinated the day after the group stage matches. The 3rd Place match and Final will be scorinated one day later, again by Saintland.

Semifinals - A1vB2 / B1vA2
3rd Place Playoff - SF1 Loser v SF2 Loser
Final - SF1 Winner v SF2 Winner

Venues

Royal Equestria Stadium - Location: Canterlot, EQS | Capacity: 98,625
Hosts: Eura vs. Equestrian States (MD1), Equestrian States vs. Buyan (MD3), Final
Not far from the traditional home of the Equestrian States' government, Royal Equestria Stadium is one of the newest sports venues in the nation and can seat nearly 100,000 ponies with standing room for thousands more. Built to replace the aging Equestria Dome as the official home of the Equestrian States national hoofball team, Royal Equestria Stadium is a reflection of the country, representing its seamless blending of tradition, natural beauty, and modernity. With a roof of magically-sculpted crystal, the stadium is awe-inspiring in its grandeur and has allowed the Equestrian States to show its most appealing side to the rest of the world. Royal Equestria Stadium has hosted a number of major events, including the finals of the 57th Cup of Harmony, the 29th Di Bradini Cup, the 21st World Cup of Hockey, and the annual United Cup (a domestic hoofball tournament between clubs from the Equestrian States and Crystal Empire). The venue is also scheduled to host the third-place playoff of the upcoming World Cup and is currently bidding to become the site of the next Cygnus Cup final.

Elements Stadium - Location: Ponyville, EQS | Capacity: 48,750
Hosts: Buyan vs. Apox (MD1), Apox vs. Equestrian States (MD2), Semifinal 1
Ponyville might not look like a commercial hub, but the city's traditional town-like architecture hides its true status. Pleasant is the best word to describe Ponyville and its citizens, and the seamless incorporation of modern technology and conveniences allows visitors to feel at ease when in town. Centrally-located between Canterlot, Everfree, Manehattan, and (to a degree) Cloudsdale, the city also serves as a transportation hub, thriving on the Equestrian States' booming tourism industry. Elements Stadium itself is named after the Elements of Harmony, the guiding principles of the majority faith of the nation: Harmonism. Visiting fans often enjoy the stadium's central position alongside the crystal-clear Mane River, not far from some of Ponyville's largest and more luxurious hotels. Elements Stadium is also home to Ponyville United, the Equestrian States' most successful hoofball club.

Diamond Park - Location: Stalliongrad, EQS | Capacity: 75,000
Hosts: Buyan vs. Eura (MD2), Eura vs. Apox (MD3)
Though Stalliongrad is not as impressive a city as Canterlot, Diamond Park is one of the most stunning accomplishments of modern equine engineering. Built into the very sides of the mountains, a carved overhang provides shelter from the sun, and unicorn magic gives the rocky stadium protection from destructive rainfall when the Ministry of Weather Control schedules it. Named for the seams of gems and precious metals that were discovered during the initial excavation of the stadium and can still be seen crisscrossing the roof, Diamond Park is a beautiful venue that stands out in a city that has become wealthy through nearby mines.

Concord Heights Stadium - Location: Concord Heights, CDG | Capacity: 77,000
Hosts: Saugeais vs. Cassadaigua (MD1), Cassadaigua vs. Osarius (MD2), Osarius vs. Saugeais (MD3), 3rd Place Playoff
Concord Heights is the national capital of Cassadaigua and is located in the northeast of the country. Within the city, you will find the most traditional Cassadagan citizens; the ones least likely to be listening to MEN (Male Equality Now) or any other of men’s rights messages. The University of Concord Heights is the nation’s most accredited higher learning institution, but if you want to leave Cassadaigua looking better to impress people at home, check out Concord Heights Beauty School for all kind of tips on looking your best, and museums dedicated specifically to the ultimate in vanity. The stadium itself is the stadium in which Cassadaigua's qualifying games are played, so you can check out much of Cassadaigua's history in the World Cup (or other sports if you wish) while you are here. One noteworthy feature is the "Monument Wall" in the South End Zone for tributes to those Cassadagan athletes that have had their jersey numbers retired. Also, along the field's sidelines are plaques honoring all national teams to have won a major championship at the stadium, which is used for multiple sports.

Brattleboro Stadium - Location: Brattleboro, CDG | Capacity: 82,000
Hosts: New Sideburn vs. Osarius (MD1), Saugeais vs. New Sideburn (MD2), New Sideburn vs. Cassadaigua (MD3), Semifinal 2
The most rapidly growing city in Cassadaigua recently topped Grande Mountain in terms of population. Brattleboro sits immediately alongside the border between us and Sicoutimont. The technological age is what has caused the rise of this city, thanks in large part to the prestigious Brattleboro Technical Institute. Graduates remained committed to the area, and are since having families of their own. Overall, there is a younger demographic here, age wise, and that coupled with the name of the city has led to others to call its residents “Brats”.

I'd consider scorinating it if were renamed to something more appropriate like "Champions Invitational"

EDIT: Oops, probably don't want to scorinate it if I'm invited :) But in the future perhaps.

Welcome to the Cup of Champions!
The Cup of Champions (or the Confederations' Cup, if you prefer to call it that) is an invitational tournament held prior to the World Cup that is meant to pit the winners of the most prominent association football tournaments against one another, as well as offering the host nations of the next World Cup the opportunity to test out their players against some of those who they might face once the World Cup finals begin.

Though first proposed as part of the unsuccessful Saintland-Legalese bid for the 67th World Cup, the Equestrian States and Cassadaigua decided to press forward with holding the tournament, which was eventually won by Osarius in dramatic fashion thanks to a dominant performance in extra time. At the second edition of the competition, hosted by Legalese and the Free Republics, the Polarians emerged victorious against Farfadillis in yet another thrilling final that took 30 minutes beyond regulation to decide.

This year the tournament will return to the Equestrian States (as Apox and The Holy Empire declined to host the event), and locals already are looking forward to welcoming some of the multiverse's best teams for the tournament, which will compete for the opportunity to claim the trophy at the glistening palace of hoofball that is Royal Equestria Stadium in Canterlot.

Venues

Royal Equestria Stadium - Location: Canterlot, EQS | Capacity: 98,625
Hosts: Valanora vs. Vilita (MD1), Apox vs. Vilita (MD3), Final
The venue also hosted the third-place playoff of the 67th World Cup.

Diamond Park - Location: Stalliongrad, EQS | Capacity: 75,000
Hosts: Polar Islandstates vs. Nephara (MD1), Polar Islandstates vs. United Eastedge (MD2), 3rd Place Playoff

Elements Stadium - Location: Ponyville, EQS | Capacity: 48,750
Hosts: Apox vs. Equestrian States (MD1), Vilita vs.

Wild Grounds - Location: Everfree, EQS | Capacity: 56,500
Hosts: United Eastedge vs. The Inevitable Syndicate (MD1), The Inevitable Syndicate vs. Polar Islandstates (MD3), Semifinal 2
To foreign visitors Everfree might seem just like any of the world's jungle cities (albeit with a large population of non-humans), but for Equestrians it's the strangest place in the country. Surrounded by the dense Everfree Forest for which it is named, Everfree boasts the largest population of non-equines of any Equestrian city, and is home to a sizable community of humans. Elsewhere in the Equestrian States, the pegasai weather ponies control the clouds and weather patterns of the nation, allowing Equestrian farmers to take advantage of optimal conditions for agriculture. But in the Everfree Forest, the weather is nigh unpredictable and difficult to predict. Added to the presence of countless predatory creatures, the Forest is a forbidding place for ponies. Humans and other non-equine sapients were less afraid of the Everfree's bizarre weather patterns (though the hydras and manticores were still a deterrent) and ventured into the Forest, eventually stumbling upon a clearing which evolved into the modern city of Everfree. Wild Grounds itself is appropriately named, being home to the ever-so-slightly crazed supporters of Everfree Forest HC and located near the very edges of the Forest itself. With a breathtaking view of the city, Wild Grounds offers one of the best atmospheres for hoofball in the country and the city has been a regular stop for the national team ever since the Ponies began to play outside of Canterlot.

Sky-High Coliseum - Location: Cloudsdale, EQS | Capacity: 65,000
Hosts: Valanora vs. Apox (MD2), Equestrian States vs. Valanora (MD3)
Like many hoofball venues in the Equestrian States, Sky-High Coliseum's name was given for a reason. Located in the pegasai-dominated city of Cloudsdale, Sky-High Coliseum is a nice 2.5 kilometers above ground, with nothing besides the clouds separating it from the grassy plains below. Made of the clouds that it is named after, Cloudsdale is not a city for those who are afraid of heights or magic, the latter due to the necessity of spells for non-pegasai to walk upon the clouds. To accommodate foreign supporters who are not so keen on being zapped with magic by a unicorn mage, large zeppelin-like balloons based in Ponyville are employed by the Hoofball Association that will carry a limited number of fans above Sky-High Coliseum to where they can safely observe the match without the use of magic. Sky-High Coliseum's use as a venue for international competitions has been criticized in the past, as the hesitation of foreign supporters to sit in the stadium itself generally allows the Equestrians to gain an almost unbeatable home-field advantage.

Star Stadium - Location: Canterlot, EQS | Capacity: 59,250
Hosts: Nephara vs. The Inevitable Syndicate (MD2), United Eastedge vs. Nephara (MD3)
Located in the suburbs of Canterlot, Star Stadium's name is derived from its glittering exterior as well as the fact that it is home to the Canterlot Stars. Though only the third-largest hoofball venue in the Equestrian States' capital city, the stadium can seat nearly 60,000 and is often packed to the brim with supporters for Canterlot Stars matches. The Stars are often viewed as being the 'other' club from Canterlot, second to the more successful Royals, but still regularly contend in the United League. Regardless, the local fans are devoted to their club and tend to be a bit showy despite being from the middle class of Equestrian society.

Welcome to the 4th Cup of Champions!
The Cup of Champions is an invitational tournament held prior to the World Cup that is meant to pit the winners of the most prominent association football tournaments against one another, as well as offering the host nations of the next World Cup the opportunity to test out their players against some of those who they might face once the World Cup finals begin.

The third tournament was held in the Equestrian States when World Cup hosts Apox and The Holy Empire declined to host and saw holders Polar Islandstates take on the defending world champs Vilita in the final, with the Jungle Cats ultimately adding the Cup of Champions to their trophy cabinet.

This year the tournament will yet again return to the Equestrian States with World Cup co-hosts San José Guayabal also hosting part of this edition. Fans throughout both nations are looking forward to welcoming back some of the multiverse's best teams, which will compete for the opportunity to claim the title at Canterlot's famed Royal Equestria Stadium.

Named after the neighborhood where it is located, it's the home of the local team, CD Barrio El Niño, champions of the Guayabalense league and one of its most consistent teams. Soccer Palace (first listed Group B matches & a Semifinal match)

The Soccer Palace is located in Petrograd, Plymouth and seats 111,663. The Soccer Palace is a truly massive stadium, with plenty of room for future expansion. Petrograd is the center of the oil industry in the Free Republics. The Republic of Plymouth is located toward the south-western portion of the country.

Hosts: Group A, Matchday 3: Brenecia vs Nephara

RepublicSoft Stadium (a Round of 16 match)

RepublicSoft Stadium is located in New City, Orlandiana. New City is believed to be the most populous city in the Free Republics, but RepublicSoft Stadium seats just 42,282. Ticket prices are notoriously high at RepublicSoft Stadium and many believe that the capacity was kept deliberately low to draw a wealthier audience to the stadium in New City. RepublicSoft is a computer company in the Free Republics. They make the Doors operating system, which has traditionally the most popular OS in the Lunia region. RepublicSoft is also well known for their line of office software. However, they are most widely known as the co-creators of the Saint, along with Royal Computer Entertainment of Saintland (RCES) and the producers of most of the first-party software for the Saint. Orlandiana is a mid-northern Republic.

Hosts: 5 out of 6 Group B Matches

Olympic Stadium

The Olympic Stadium, which seats 107,432, was constructed for the X Winter Olympics in Baseton, Amolotopia.
