With the new Star Gate seiries out, I wanted to find out what other people thought of it. I personaly like it. It has the feal of first season Atlantis mixed with Battlestar Galactica. What are your thoughts?

I haven't watched it, but it looks like Star Trek: Voyager crossed with Battlestar Galactica and transplanted into the Stargate universe.

That also works as an analog. I find it entertaining none-the-less.

i havent watched any of the other star gate shows. i did see the original movie some years ago...
im not engrossed. i find the characters a bit...off....but maybe thats because i havent see the other shows and dont realize that in this universe everyone has come to over-depend on star gates to get them out of sticky situations.
i like the actors invovled so im going to give it a good long chance before i give up on it.
whatever

I like it a lot. I think it's bizaare that people are like 'wow, it's really just like battlestar crossed with voyager' as if this is some sort of reasonable criticism. I mean, there are reasonable criticisms, or concerns, like 'where is it going to go from here, and will it be interesting' or the fact that the characters that aren't Eli or Dr rush aren't especially memorable (though Medic girl, commander guy, token black guy, and senators daughter are getting better, but I can't even remember their -names-)
But saying that a sci-fi show is like some other sci-fi show is not really saying anything. I mean firefly is fairly close to TNG. They have spaceships and EVERYTHING.

Well, SG Atlantis was terrible - I can't remember any acting/scripting that wasn't utter drivel... At least the characters and scripting in SG Universe aren't completely one-dimensional so that's a good start.
So far, I've watched the first 6 episodes and am quite liking the majority of the stuff I've been seeing. The power struggles between the different people have been interesting so far and although some of the stuff is shaky (to me at least - thinking particularly of the way they contact Earth) it does seem as though it's going to be an enjoyable series. Atlantis put me off Stargate pretty much entirely - so I've been wanting something decent(ish) about the Stargate realm to watch for a while now.

I've only seen one episode so far, where their ship was going to go into a sun and there was apparently nothing they could do about it save for a few who could leave in a shuttlecraft and settle on some planet. I found it rather dull.

I'm reserving judgement. It started being uncomfortably close to Battlestar Galactica in style, but it seems to be finding it's own way which bears some resemblance to BG and the Stargate series, but seems to occupy it's own space in between.
Sometimes as I'm flying through space after a flying tackle that has propelled my best friend and me off a bridge over a stretch of dark chest-deep estuarial mud I take the time to wonder if there is more to life than mud, tacos, groin kicks, pies, theoretical physics, clowning, teaching my children all I know about mischief and personal self-destruction. Then shortly before we all but disappear in the black muck, I remember wedgies.

It's okay, but i think it's still trying to find it's feet.
Although one complaint i would make is Dr Rush is playing mr angry man too much and it's beginning to wear thin.
I like the concept, but i would like to see it actually get going, see what they discover in new areas of the ship.
*has not seen this night's episode, will see it later though*

Precisely, I think it does look interesting but if it doesn't start to pick up and gain more plot/character development then it will fall into an abyss of crap--much like SG Atlantis. Will be d/l'ing the latest episode tomorrow to pass my craptacular judgement upon it.
Although I dislike the fact that I can't recall most of the character's names...

I've seen the first couple of episodes and I'm willing to watch a few more to give it a chance to pick up. The senators daughter really irritates me for some reason.

SG atlantis was okay, some of the episodes were a bit lame, but the odd one got me thinking.

True, she does just seem to be the sex-thingy character for that Lt.? Scott? person-thingy.

Meh, I just never liked SG Atlantis at all so for some reason it has reserved a place in my head for a grudge

I thought she was going to get with Eli befor last weeks episode. Hopfuly it'll be a long enough series for all the characters to advance and change. And I think Rush needs some explaining or flashbacks or something.

It's the Enterprise of Stargate. Hopefully it will kill the series if this is what they keep turning out.

I am unimpressed so far, and barely have an attachment to any of the characters except for Rush and Eli, mostly because they both remind me of myself. (And also because Rush is sexy as hell.)
Though I can remember everyone's names, for the most part, at least.
One aspect I definitely dislike: more than once they've been invoking religion in a way that's never been done on Stargate before, and in a way that displeases me. I do hope this trend ceases immediately.

Both my sister and myself laughed hard enough to cause my parents to pause the viewing and require explanation. (Though of course they immediately stopped wanting to hear it once they heard "It was made by the creator of the Simpsons"...)

Other than the black soldier talking about God and the one white guy that saw the priest, I didn't realy notice religious references. Was that all you ment?
