Jolt Online Gaming has officially decided that Earth: 2025, a Swirve game they purchased over a year ago along with the original Utopia (they do not advertise either game), is no longer profitable for Jolt to run. Earth: 2025 has been running with an unchanged principle of gameplay for more than 13 years. Earth: 2025 is the first game closed by Jolt that they did not make themselves. NOW we see the bastards turning to profit (I will admit, Earth:2025 had around a thousand people playing and was immensely hard to keep running because of their inability to recode it, but it's players are just so hardcore...)

I'm not so sure on saying that, Earth:2025 is ridiculously unprofitable and is played by less than a thousand people, but they've held on for as long as they can. They just haven't tried to do climb up the ladder so they don't fall down

And yet I still have no idea as to what this game is. *ahem*.

I'm disappointed that so many people seem to be against justice and truthinesss.
You damn socialists need to be teabagged by Glenn Beck. He'll humiliate some values into you brainwashed Obamunists.
Wait...that's not what teabagging means? But...it's what my friends said it meant when I was at school!
And now I've been declared an agent of the Dark Lord and exiled back to Communist Europe, where nationalized health systems harvest the children and our old, and gay swedes relentlessly degrade true values.

I felt that NationStates came close to this situation in the Jolt Days. I feel really disappointed that the Earth 2025 community spirit has been neglected again by Jolt, and hope that a resolution can be found.

And this surprises you how? Jolt is run by a bunch of gutless unimaginative, humour-deprived accountants who are no better than a bunch of snivelling Ferengi. Let 'em keep their gold slips of latinum, but they will never see the divine treasury because they failed to properly follow the rules of acquisition.

I don't think that the rules of the market sufficiently maximize profit. Inorder to rectify this, you must become my slave. You will be more productive. Profit will be maximized. It will be moral and just.

Nerd.
Replace "Ferengi" with "Jew" and the accusation morphs to antisemitism.

...you do know that Jolt is a for-profit company, right? If something isn't making money, either sell it off or get rid of it. Why the hell would an organization that only exists to make money do something that costs a fortune, and brings nothing in return? If you think it's because they are "douchebags" or "bastards" you need to go to business school.

Given their propensity for trainwrecks as well as cutting off any property that gives them trouble, I don't think they're acting in accordance with anything. Maybe they have a witchdoctor who carries a bag of little bones and makes decisions based upon where they lie.

It was the first interactive web game. It was/is superior to NS2, SimCountry, and Cybernations in many ways.
And I wonder how long this will last up on the wiki: "Sadly, on November 4, 2009, the evil overlords at OMAC announced their intentions to kill the game they'ed been neglecting for years."
If OMAC keeps killingoff their games like this, they won't have any left. I'll dance on their graves when that happens.

Unfortunately, as long as they can keep on duping game creators into believing that they're DEVELOPING the games into something bigger and better, they will continue to operate their business in precisely the same way they have done thus far.
I remember dabbling in Earth: 2025 forever ago.... t'is a bummer but not much of a surprise that Jolt is screwing them over. Though if the game only has about 1000 or so players, couldn't they set up their own server like we did? Or did the game creator mistakenly sign over the rights to the source code to Jolt?
I almost wonder if they dupe game creators and then run the games into the ground deliberately as a means of killing off the competition for that stupid game they tried to shuffle NS2 players over to once they closed it down.

I would say that is rather obviously their strategy.

Yeah... but if NS2 is any indication of their abilities to produce their own games, they're not going to be providing anything that the players they've estranged will want to even try!
