The Patriot (American Revolution) 6. Gallipoli (WWI) 7. Glory (US Civil war) 8. Saving Private Ryan (WWII-US view) 9. Platoon (US Vietnam Conflict) 10. Patton (WWII)
The fact that you put The Patriot above movies like Platoon, Patton, and Saving Private Ryan, only rpoves you have no taste.
Also, you're missing The Longest Day, Hamburger Hill, and Cross of Iron to name a few.
Playing NS since Jan of 2006

I have a soft spot for DasBoot. Watch it every year or so. The Great Escape is another eternal favourite, not because it depicts the horrors of war (it doesn't) but because it's just...so...fucking...awesome. Head in the Clouds was a shockingly good movie, sort of more of the Casablanca kind of war movie. I also loved Bridge on the River Kwai. I'll admit that I tend to like WWII movies more just because that's what I grew up watching. I agree with most of the other movies listed here. I particularly liked Stalingrad. Mmmm. Ed Harris.

How about Porkchop Hill, then?
I was watching Zulu just this Sunday ... I love in the opening credits "Introducing Michael Caine".
- A Bridge Too Far - The Guns of Navaronne - The Longest Day - Gettysburg - The Red Badge of Courage - Dawn Patrol - Grand Illusion - Paths of Glory - All Quiet on the Western Front - Lawrence of Arabia - The Lighthorsemen - In Which We Serve - Bridge Over The River Kwai
Hmm ... that's quite a few ...

Two novels can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other involves orcs.

Zulu is a terrible film.
Michael Caine mangleing the Welsh accent is sometinhg no one should be forced to endure.
He wasn't mangling a Welsh accent. Major Gonville Bromhead VC was English, so Caine's delivery was fine.

I didn't know he was attempting one, to be honest.
A Bridge Too Far's good, but one film I really like that I doubt many people have heard of is the Beast. Whilst less of a war film and more of a character drama, it does have some of the most claustrophobic scenes in cinema, as some of the best characters. It's about a Russian tank in Afghanistan which has been seperated from its column after destroying an Afghan village and attempting to make its way back, whilst being followed by a group of mujahadeen.
Brilliant acting, brilliant music and brilliant cinematography.
Letters from Iwo Jima was really good, as it's one of the only films that protrays the Japanese in a somewhat sympathetic light, and Americans somewhat poorly, if only in one case.
I need to get my hands on Stalingrad, as I've heard its excellent.

So why does he try to put it on then?
Is he? I hadn't noticed, but then I'm an American and as Prof. Henry Higgins put it, English hasn't been used here in years, so what do I know? Compared to the actors playing the actually Welshmen, Caine sounds purely English to me.

I think from the other responses to my assertation that Caine was attempting a Welsh accent you can guess how serious I was.
I'm too tired to keep up anything like a convincing line of bullshit.
It doesn't matter how big your hammer is, eventually you'll come across something that isn't a nail.
I found something wrong with your list, full metal jacket was no.1 when apocalpyse now should have been.
