I liked it but it wasn't great literature.
I have had a good many more uplifting thoughts, creative and expansive visions while soaking in comfortable baths or drying after bracing showers in well-equipped bathrooms than I have ever had in any cathedral. ~ Edmund Wilson
Two novels can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other involves orcs.

It is a decent book. Though the constant movement between varying characters can be irritating, it helps to move the story along and is interesting as the varying threads weave together towards the end.
It's either poking fun at Libertarianistic small government, the free market or consumerist society. Given Max Barry's previous history working in marketting, it is likely to be the free market and consumerist society which are being ridiculed.
Or click the "Jennifer Government" link to Max's site. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to sell you a copy direct.

Not an overly-exceptional plan of Max Barry's this site. It's primary aim was to drum up support for his book by - partially - free advertising and it seems to have failed for many of the sites main users.
Still it is everyone elses loss.

I just looked online and it doesn't have it. (For my local library).
Your library sucks. Mine had one and I am in an extremely slow process of reading it now. I am maybe, 12 chapters in. So far so good.

I read both Jennifer Government and Syrup and enjoyed both. I found-out about both books from this site back in 2003 or so. When I remember, I'll go check-out Machine Man as well.
