Welp, it is 12:00 AM 10/31/2009! It is now officially Halloween/Samhain!
To the Non-Pagans, I wish you a Happy Halloween, so gorge on candy, scare the little kids, and watch a ton of horror movies. For the parents, please make sure your kids, and yourself wear something that is reflective. I can't tell you how many times I've almost hit someone because they thought wearing all dark clothes at night was a good idea.
To the Pagans: Happy Samhain, I hope that tonight, your love ones that has passed on will visit you tonight, and I hope you have a wonderful (and sobering, whatever the case may be) celebration. Also, since Samhain is our New Year, Happy New Year!

Ah yes. Cleaning the living room to set up the dumb supper (which doubles as the treat table for all the trick or treaters - really, my particular spirits don't mind sharing with children, in fact, they kind of enjoy it).
I might remind people that there is a special kind of nastiness at this time of year. People who think it's fun to equate Samhain with Devil worship (not the Satanism of JimP) in it's worst form are on the lookout for animals, particularly cats, to use as sacrifices. DO NOT let your cats outside tonight, even if they're outdoor cats, you could lose them to some particularly vicious individuals - these "people" are not Wiccans or Pagans of any variety, they're a perversion of Christianity.

Your picture disturbs me, but thank you. It's been halloween here for almost 18hours and I've spent the majority of it in the library. Yay.

Wait, why do the "people" have to be Christian? They could be Jewish, atheist, etc.

Has there actually been reports of people doing this? I thought that whole mess was just a hoax or something.

I said "a perversion of Christianity." The Devil they worship is not Jewish or atheist. From what I've studied, the Devil, as it is perceived in this world, is a Christian invention. So, whether or not these "people" were originally Christian, they are perverting Christianity.

Yea, there's been no reports here either. I'm thinking it's nothing more than a hoax by those people who crusade against Halloween/Samhain.

I don't know how prevalent it is. I do know that it happened in parts of SoCal when I was there. The SPCA wouldn't allow the adoption of cats for a good month prior to Hallowe'en.
I still believe it's better to be safe where your pets are concerned, and, for some reason, wackos do seem to escalate their activities around holidays, whatever their motivations.

I'm playing D&D this morning... that seems sufficiently Halloween-y.
Also, thank you Wil, for your warm wishes!
I might also do some drinking tonight... the question is whether or not to dress up (all my wife and I have on hand is our renassaince festival outfits... which though awesome, and elaborate, suck to don.)

When I first read the topic title, I asked myself "Why is he wishing me a happy Eldar Craftworld?"
I then promptly face-palmed.
Regardless, happy Halloween to all! Too bad I'm too old to go trick-or-treating, or else I could gorge on some candy tonight.

If you were thinking ahead, you would have bought the candy a couple of weeks ahead, eaten it and bought some more. You don't have to go trick or treating to gorge on Hallowe'en candy.
In any case, everyone enjoy the holiday. I know I will. *wipes remnants of snack-sized Snickers bars off mouth.*

To celebrate halloween with you guys, I waned to share a halloween legend my mom passed onto me (Shes irish plain and simple. Born on the 1st of November. So she also sees halloween as her birthday party lol)
"It has long been believed that half of all fairies are good, while the other half are mischievous or evil natured. Each type rules over a different half of the year. Legend holds that the mischievous and evil natured fairies are most active from Halloween until Beltane (May 1) and the good ones are most active from Beltane Until Halloween.
For the bes protection against any and all less-than-friendly fairies, an old and simple spell calls for a wreath of dried apples and/or heather to be hung over your front door before sundown on halloween
To increase effectiveness, atach one or more small iron bells to it. This guarentees that the fairies will steer clear of your house and all who dwell in it.
She always puts out a wreath on the 31st.
And speaking of Halloween traditions, even though I am in Japan. I intend to light a small fire in the communal fire pit and keep it going. In keeping with the old tradition of the hillfires. Big bonfires which were lit to guide the spirits of the deceased home for the evening, so that they may not loose their way on the one night they are given to be with their family.
Happy Halloween!
(No I am not Wiccan. I am atheist. But I do love a good spot of tradition)

Boo!
Sometimes as I'm flying through space after a flying tackle that has propelled my best friend and me off a bridge over a stretch of dark chest-deep estuarial mud I take the time to wonder if there is more to life than mud, tacos, groin kicks, pies, theoretical physics, clowning, teaching my children all I know about mischief and personal self-destruction. Then shortly before we all but disappear in the black muck, I remember wedgies.

Halloween is ending here. I spent the day running a haunted house and generally scaring the hell out of people (A number of whom had to be escorted from the house because they were so scared) so I did my duty to spread Halloween to the Japanese.
I'd like to leave you guys with this quote though: "Most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches. I do not buy candy during the Halloween season. Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference."
