The Exiles Return (OOC Closed)

Postby Setulan » Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:30 pm

Main Thread
The Hunt is On-The race to save Captain Alison Campbell from captivity before the Exiles can find out the inner workings of the APN's defenses around Alversia itself!
Revelations-Saint Terramo's former travelling companions search for proof of his death while being hounded by the Exile's most elite killers!
Battle at the End of the Universe: A Shield detachment of the Huerdaen Star Empire moves to secure a nearby Setulan world just in time to desperately battle for survival as Exiles attack!

Due to popular demand, I have created this OOC thread for my gihugic Setulan civil war. If you have any questions for the good of the group, ask them here, and I'll fill people in with stuff I think is important.

I also figured that since I was making an OOC and this RP is focusing solely on the Setulan system and specifically Setulan itself, I would use this space to keep everyone up to date with what is going on in the Republic's other Home Galaxy systems. As of now, that means a whole lot of "Unknowns", but I will also include the known garrisons of Republican/AXIS troops present. When troops and fleets start going to those planets to try to liberate them, I will put that under each category as well. Barring some serious begging on the part of one of you, I'm seriously unlikely to RP out the campaigns on the outer colonies. When you send troops and stuff there, I will use my notes on the Exiles (yes, I really do have notes about their numbers and capabilities and yes, they are fucking extensive) to weave a story about what is going on there. Note that the more I know about your Admirals/Generals you send there and who is in charge/stuff that goes there, the more compelling I can make those fights. I am more than willing to write short stories detailing them. Writing is great stress relief, this is my only real RP at the moment, and you guys post slow, so I need something to write about :P. Likewise, in the unlikely event that one of you writes a short story about something going on either on the colonies or on Setulan that you didn't want to clutter your main post with, feel free to post it here and I shall link it.

Updates will occur whenever I post!

Exile Forces Present:
84 warships, class unknown, large debris field making identification difficult. On the ground, Exile forces seem to be predominantly made up of fanatics with poor equipment and training, though there is reason to believe better equipped troops are present.

Still, as it is now it's good to go. as far as it goes the Sen will be mobilizing to jump in with AXES into the home galaxy, not just the millatry but the G-police too.

Soon as i can however im thinkign of sending MANTIS squads into the setulan worlds including setulan prime to lay the groundwork or die horribly. but im lookign forward to battlign it out with the exiles.

Everybody, please also note-Borndecker's transmission has gone out. I know it has only been a matter of minutes/ couple of hours or so since you have all heard about the attack on Setulan and that his message is sent out four hours post invasion. I also know that despite the lack of time that has passed for all of you, the reporters-whose signals have gone out as well in time for your next post-are saying that the assault has been going on for five-six hours.

You can make of this what you will, but no meta gaming or the giant Wrathcock of DMing +5 hits you in the backside.

The Skulks

Postby Xiscapia » Mon Mar 04, 2013 10:18 pm

Skulks and their Leaders:

Hellhounds: Prince Silvertooth Rose ("The Prince")

Ascendancy: Princess Nightshade Rose ("The Princess")

Harbinger: Lady Erravvi ("The Wanderer")

Grave: High Priest Maynghien ("The Exarch")

Guillotine: Sir Urteil ("The Gentleman")

Fleet Compositions:

Each Skulk is made up of ~200 vessels, ranging from pickets and patrol cruisers to battleships and assault carriers. Many of these are Korr-Wars era warships purchased or salvaged after the end of that conflict and upgraded to be proven combatants, while others are more modern craft bought or produced in secret. Some, such as the Hapkido Bulk Cruisers and Teutonic Asteroid Ships, were made by the Skulks to augment their forces. Small craft include Blade Interceptors, Howl Bombers, Hurtle Drones, Archer Gunships, Shuriken Fighter-Bombers, Flyer shuttles and a variety of dropships and assault landers. Notably, Sultan Tank Ships also harbor numerous Kitsune Imperial Load Landers, which are used to transport divisions of troops and act as bases for them to operate from.

1x Nova Carrier

5x Spark Battlecruisers

12x Hummer Heavy Destroyers

10x Messenger of Hope Missile Cruisers

12x Destructor Corvettes

1x Sultan Tank Ship

1x Veil Interdiction Frigate

20x Hapkido Bulk Cruisers

1x Protection Medical Frigate

40x Marchamp Frigates

5x Teutonic Asteroid Ships

To fill out its fleet, each Skulk also operates a number of vessels taken on the individual Skulk's ventures in the Milky Way Galaxy. These include ships that were captured from hostile factions, purchased from friendly entities or salvaged as derelicts, and are often refitted for different purposes than they originally possessed. The Skulk is named first, followed by the faction taken from, number and class of the vessels they possess.

Hellhounds (Karaigan): 1x Hades Stealth Dreadnought, 1x Guardian Cruiser, 1x Hoplite Destroyer, 1x Kuya Frigate, 5x Longbow-I Frigates, 3x Arrowhead (Shortbow type) Frigates, 2x Bolt (Crossbow type) Frigates, 1x Rider Corvette, 2x Keagan Corvettes, 1x Hauler Transport, 1x Armory Transport, 1x Triage Medical Frigate

Ascendancy (Black Claw Pirates): 1x Kol Battleship, 1x Marza Dreadnought, 6x Corsair Heavy Cruisers, 2x Rogue Strike Frigates, 4x Cutthroat Armed Freighters, 3x Reaper Flak Frigates, 2x Pillager Bombardment Frigates, 1x Protev Troop Frigate

Harbinger (Pentastar Alignment): 1x Y-4 transport, 1x Lictor Dungeon Ship, 1x Vibre Assault Cruiser, 6x Lancer Frigates, 4x Carrack Cruisers, 1x Modular Taskforce Cruiser, 1x Imperial Escort Carrier, 2x Vindicator Heavy Cruisers, 1x Gladiator Star Destroyer, 1x Imperator Star Destroyer, 1x Torpedo Sphere

Grave (Xenohumanity): 3x Naysayer Missile Barges, 4x Retrofitted Pragmatist Logistics Freighters, 4x Zedd Jammer-Interceptors, 8x Retrofitted Liquidity Route Establishment Haulers

Guillotine (Manzing): 1x Avenger Grand Cruiser, 2x Exorcist Grand Cruisers, 4x Sword Frigates, 6x Claymore Corvettes, 2x Tempest Assault Frigates, 5x Carrack Transports

Hierarchy of Troops:

Drones: Drones are the most numerous type of soldier in the Skulks. As the backbone of the Philosopher’s Armies, they make up the bulk of most given forces, and can be of any species or gender. What unites them is that they were all once enemies of the Skulks, be they unfortunate pirates or slavers, members of antagonistic nations, or hostile religious groups, who were “Converted” into their present form via the implantation of a system of cybernetics directly into the brain that makes them utterly loyal, completely obedient and ruthlessly effective. However, all of this comes at the cost of independent thinking; while drones are equipped to use tactics against their foes and can do things such as adapt to new situations, learn how to do unfamiliar things and process and relay information, they cannot think creatively, create anything beyond a few basic designs (earthworks, lean-tos, etc.) or offer input on tactics or strategy. They are designed to be the perfect footsoldier –and nothing more.

Aided by implants and mostly synthetic bodies, drones have few basic needs and can take respectable amounts of punishment before being rendered inoperable. They are typically equipped with power armor, a primary and secondary weapon and a few basic tools. Due to their design every drone is equally proficient at any given task, making them interchangeable with each other for duties, with the only difference being placement and equipment. Because they make mediocre pilots they are not often used in this role, but are more frequently seen operating vehicles on the ground and especially artillery. A wounded drone is expected to self-repair, and if it cannot its parts are scrapped to be reused for another unit.

Warriors: Among the fewest in number in the Skulks, Warriors are loyal sapient beings fighting for the cause. Unlike drones their loyalty is heartfelt, rather than manufactured, and they are distinguished from Cultists by generally lacking any psychic abilities. Warriors may be former Xiscapian or militia soldiers who were discharged or left their respective services to join the fleets, ex-Syndicate members enticed by the philosophy expressed by the Skulks, or a particular brand of “divine mercenaries” who fight for the sake of their own holy empowerment or experience. Many of these are Korr, Zillars, Escan and humans, who tend to be veterans and well-equipped from their time in service to the Skulks, and they can be as fanatical as any drone or Cultist. They are often used to operate fightercraft and transports, crew and captain warships and provide auxiliary troops to the drones and Cultists; the ratio of Warriors to drones is about 1:50.

Cultists: Leaders of the Skulk forces, Bodom Cultists are those who stride into battle clad in power armor and cloaked in black robes, wielding the power of their deity. Every Cultist is a follower of Bodom, schooled in the arts of using fire, stone, darkness and time to their advantage, as well as resistance to outside supernatural influence and many kinds of combat. They fight with psychic power as much as blades and firearms, and use their influence and greater sight to direct drones and Warriors in combat. Cultists are always in position to both lead lesser troops into the fray and to command from the rear, using battle meditation to coordinate their actions while keeping physical communications systems available for redundancy. They also man warships and some smaller craft.

Most Cultists are kitsune, but there is a mix of a wide variety of species found in the Kitsune Empire and beyond among them. Their unifying similarity comes from their devotion to Cult and Skulk, psychic abilities and combat prowess. Cultists will be equipped with power armor, robes, and several melee and firearm weapons. Though they are most often found leading groups of drones or Warriors, they also form their own units for the taking on of hostile psychics. Ratio of Cultists to Drones is 1:500.

Wraths: The elite of the Skulk, those that are known as the Wraths are Warriors and Cultists handpicked by one of the Five to be specially trained and undergo processes to become some of the deadliest forces on the battlefield. Wrath is a general term for one of five different kinds of soldier, each of whom serves different purposes based on who instructed them. Unshakably loyal and very powerful both physically and psychically, these sapient entities number just a thousand per Skulk, and are usually witnessed either near one of the Five or dominating the field of war. Some Wraths will take command upon entering a fight, but most act as individuals or part of units to bring their own skills and brand of support to the Skulk and its allies. Ratio of Wraths to Drones is 1:6000.

Hellhounds: Howlers

Like their master Prince, Howlers focus on channeling intense rage to give them fearless, furious drive in combat, making them recognizable even without their scarlet red robes. Harnessing psychic powers to crush, throw, and level their opponents, they allow their emotions to run wild and wrack the battlefield in lashes of force, shocking and dazing foes before driving in for the kill with melee weapons or rapid-fire cannons. Signature of the Howlers is their banshee scream, which they derive their name from, a noise so horrific and demoralizing it can make lesser foes rout and stun stronger ones, battering the mind with psionic energy. Put together, all of this makes the Howlers berserkers in combat, capable of taking apart forces of men by themselves and immobilizing enemy psychics; a unit of Howlers once slaughtered a Raider’s worth of Clak-Tok in this fashion. As could be expected, once engaged a Howler does not back down or retreat until either all of the enemy are dead or they are, and their abilities allow them to fight until they are the only one left standing.

Ascendancy: Abaddon

Also called “Nightshade’s Reapers”, the Abaddon tend to be deceptively peaceful-looking creatures, having sprouted large, angelic wings and gifted with unusual grace and beauty evident even through their silver armor. Indeed, their healing powers and the protective wards they can cast over entire armies reinforce this impression, but when evil nears these Wraths make good on their names. Their very presence can rebuke undead, cause terror in the ranks of the wicked and inspire and rejuvenate allies, and their holy strikes brand enemies with the marks of their sins, call down thunder from the heavens and consecrate the very ground they walk upon. Psychic abilities allow them to assume the form of a storm like a blizzard or sandstorm, freezing or lashing at foes as they move effortlessly from one position to another, smiting all in their path. No darkness can prevail while an Abaddon is present, for the light of the gods shines stronger.

Harbinger: Unbound

Lovingly forged by their mistress like her children, the Unbound are people who have chosen to undergo the process of being biologically modified to better fight and serve the Skulk. Modified via secret alchemical techniques, they are often bestial, plated in natural armor or tough hide, and have organic weapons that are still effective against modern armors and defenses, including spikes, acidic compounds, echolocation, webbing, fire and more, in addition to their psychic powers, making for a deadly combination. Many keep their forms separate, seeming mostly normal in one moment before transforming the next, able to shift back and forth at will, which allows them to function as soldiers when needed, but even when they look ordinary their strangeness is betrayed by the infusion of Ork DNA that toughens them to near supernatural levels. Because of this, it is not uncommon for Unbound to fight naked as their Lady does, or wearing clothing that will not hinder their changes when they bring their primal forms into play. In some cases Unbound will carry Warriors, Cultists or Skulk allies into combat if capable, giving them further use as mounts and cavalry.

Grave: Revenants

Masters of life and death, same as the High Priest above them, Revenants control the life force on the battlefield. Where Abaddon heal the living, Revenants resurrect the dead, turning the bodies of fallen drones and opponents into unliving servants, raising hordes of these corpses to fight for them, unfeeling and undying, never stopping until they can no longer move or are released to collapse into dust. When slaying another a Revenant can choose to bind their soul to their weapon, giving blades and bullets ethereal powers to pass through armor and struck directly at weak flesh as the unwilling spirit is pressed to destroy their former comrades. The essence of allies can also be temporarily preserved, and used to unleash ghostly wrath against enemies with rending claws and gnashing teeth, allowing the restless dead vengeance from beyond the grave. Revenants take the bones of those they have slain and use them to craft their signature armor, and it is rumored that souls trapped inside provide them with protection on the battlefield.

Guillotine: Lords

Taking on the same fine attire and attitude as their patron, the Lords at first glance seem unfit for modern combat even by Skulk standards, dressed in suits, carrying canes and pistols and looking more at home in high society. This is a dangerous assumption to make, as above all, Lords are extremely fast, able to kill half a dozen men before the body of the first hits the ground, and though the weapons they carry seem slight they are unerring and always seem to find that single chink in the enemy’s armor. Agile and stealthy, they can pull off seemingly impossible feats of swordsmanship and marksmanship, and will usually seek out whoever they perceive to be the strongest opponent just for the pleasure of watching him, her or it fall. Much of their psychic abilities lie in making illusions, possessing enemies and luring them into traps and generally causing havoc without lifting a finger themselves, only standing back and laughing. But, like good ladies and gentlemen, they are always polite, even when the veneer holds a biting hatred.

Oh boy, we've got X-Ray over here. Moving to cover and popping smoke on our position, somebody keep it suppressed while we phone in another Skyranger for more rookies; I've got a feeling he's going to be eating a whole bunch of 'em before the night's through. Just got off an XCOM binge, had to vent, you have to understand.

I am trying to catch up to this thread, but my god, Setulan, you wrote a whole metric fuckton. And Alversia is particularly good at public speeches. What's up with that? I was legitimately sad with that. This whole battle is a mess and I'm realizing very, very quickly how little I know about the Republic and its history. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going back to reading, but many thanks to Xeno for all the munchies he's sending me!

Aw, I was hoping for a Huerdaen fleet to join ranks with the armada heading for Set's territory. :P

I don't really have a whole lot of assets in the Home Galaxy, you know. I think my total numbers come down to a battle fleet or two that were more training units than anything. I can check on my actual assets, but in the overall scheme (I told Set about this earlier) the HSE probably wouldn't commit to the main battle until they've secured their sector (I believe I had something like 2-3 Setulanite worlds near the HSE mining groups/military bases in the Home Galaxy) and solidified it there. Now, if asked, they'd commit more, but the HSE was never really invited into AXIS, nor was it particularly close to the Setulanite Republic. So it's actions are to hold those colonies in trust - if the Republic loses, they become Huerdaen lands. If the Republic wins, I hand them back over, secured and orderly.

Now, if Set feels his people would get desperate enough to go to the Dread Empire and ask if I can deploy a War fleet, (535 Ships, standard for this scale of engagement) then everything changes. His thread, I'll do what he wants.

Huerdae wrote:I am trying to catch up to this thread, but my god, Setulan, you wrote a whole metric fuckton.

Hey, when you want to tear down and smash apart your brainchild to cause a whole new type of Setulan to spread out across the stars, by god you don't do it halfway ^_^ Seriously glad you're enjoying of course, means I'm not just wasting my time writing 40 pages of stuff in four replies. And if you have any questions at all about Setulan history/what the fuck is going on, feel free to ask it here or TG me. I feel like a fair number of people in this thread are like "lolwut" for a lot of what I write. I mean really, short of Xis and Al, I don't think anybody here has had the whole "welcome to the Republic!" RP.

To answer other people's questions about a Huerdaen battlefleet showing up to support the assault on Setulan, I find it...highly unlikely. My feeling is that the Star Empire and Republic's dealings have always been built more on Realpolitik than any kind of love. Hue's involvement in the HG will probably just be major fighting on one of the colony worlds.

Now, if any of the civilian leadership was still in power, there might be a request for a Huerdaen war fleet. But given that the guy in charge is the same one who has a locker full of contingency war plans for when things go south with the Star Empire, it just ain't happening :P

Funny, the guy I was considering sending would probably have two war maps, one for saving the Republic, and the second in case objectives changed...so we're in agreement on that point. not a lot of trust between two very martial empires with very different cultures. Surprise surprise. Probably the only reason I didn't deploy a war fleet to secure more land is that the Tails over there are my pretty good buddies and they would not be happy with me. That, and Alversia and Sen are both pretty friendly, (though not quite friends) and pissing them off loses me my nice little landchunk in the HG, followed quickly by at least Sen hitting me on home turf probably. Not my ideal war strategy.

On the other hand, you can bet that there will be a few Huerdaen mumbling about not giving back the colony at any given time, but we'll see where that goes. From the sounds of things, I will have myself a wonderful time with your exiles. Many similarities, some parts polar opposites. Just let me know when/if you want to hit that colony thread. I would suspect, from your main thread, I have a little while before you're able to focus much on the fringes.

As a sidenote, Xis - It occurs to me that KIN ships may be able to be resupplied on some munitions in HSE ports. I'm not sure if that's of use to you or not, you're easily the most friendly with the HSE. You would, however, probably have to tell me what is going on in there - I don't exactly have the ability to deploy eyes in the area.

Which is probably why the Xiscapians didn't (and aren't liable to) ask the HSE for direct assistance. The last thing they want is for this already messy situation to get any more dodgy. All this considering that the Huerdaen approach to territory seems to be "I have an armored battalion deployed on it, what do you mean it doesn't belong to me?!"

Mayhaps. I don't know how many task groups might be running out near HSE HG colonies at a time like this, or anytime in the near future, but it's more likely that they would make use of that in the MWG. That's both for fleets moving through Delta into the HG and vice versa via Phenia's Gate, and in general for fleets being moved around in Delta to reinforce Xiscapian positions at the possibility of Exile attack. As far as intelligence goes, I don't know of any reason why a given force commander or admiral wouldn't share the data he, she or it knows if they think it will help. The HSE is a nominal Xiscapian ally after all, and your allies generally like to know about the possibility of Chaos Space Marines insane religious zealots dropping in on them.

Not at all! I figure she's in the perfect position for me to display the WTF felt among the drone operators that just had their units come out in the Setulan System and get fuck-all for data.

Xeno, you do an excellent job of giving the appearance of a mighty, gargantuan fleet waiting for war. MORE POSTS. NEED MORE READING. DEPICT FOR ME THE BATTLE FOR SETULAN!

Oh, you're too kind. I was thinking of using the theme of the Ur-Quan as Music to Mood By for a bit, but even I think that'd have been laying it on a bit thick, and that is certainly saying something. Save that for when the Neurothoths show up or something, I reckon, start shooting Purple Space Lightning (tm) everywhere. But yes, I took damn well long enough thanks to spring break being startlingly bad for my writing schedule. But enough about problems, let the steel rain begin and all that.

Bah, you didn't do badly. It's hard to imagine that number of ships of that size. Even thinking about it, I went back and got a screenshot of the Mass Effect fleet at the end of ME3. It's...what, 50 ships? Try to conceive of ten times that number. There's more than a little awe that goes with that, I'm not holding it against you you played to the more dramatic side of that. The sheer size of the fleets in play right now is spectacular.

I almost wish I could have a ship stop by just to gaze upon it and send a report back home. "Sir, we're going to need more ships." The complete ISN has about 2800 ships, but most of those are destroyers. With a fairly consistent rate of 1 capital for 4 escorts being scaled, that leaves right about 75% of my fleet destroyers. 200m to 300m long warships. While an impressive swarm, it's hardly a cloud of ominous doom. I'm not exactly going to scare the exiles into bowing down to me. They'll maybe respect me on the ground, but I don't think I'll inspire any fear among the stars.
