Greatest living author?

Postby GetBert » Sat Sep 26, 2009 9:38 am

Who do you think is the greatest living author? After pondering this deeply for about five seconds I am going to suggest Michael Ondaatje, Doris Lessing, or Margaret Atwood.

Anyways, I quite enjoyed Dan Brown's books. I have to broaden my horizons though. I'm positive there are better out there.

George Martin makes a good read, his baddies are REALLY bad...and then he makes you identify and root for them...and then he remind you how bad they are....its a vicious cycle, his release schedule could be better though...

The answer is of course John Ringo! Nobody can cram as much tech wank, godmoddery, wish fulfillment, BDSM, allusions to pedophillia and right wing nutjobbery into so many books!

This author writes it as it is, everyone knows that all fantasy books would be so much better if the goodies were given asault rifles, giant tanks and unlimited artillery support!

Only John Ringo could have come up with a warship AI that fall in love with the captain and has orgasims from having her decks scrubbed!

He must be acknowledged not only as the greatest living author but the greatest author ever!

ahem... anyway...

I truely couldn't judge a great author at all I know what i like and I am fully aware that msot of it is pap.

Well if not John Ringo what about Dale Brown?

he's actually alive? well he's ok too.

harry harrison is worth mentioning too. no idea if he's alive or not. he was though.
come to think of it, that kzinti guy (nevin? i held his turkey sandwidge in an elivator once but i can't at this moment for sure remember his name. that was at an orycon or a norwescon. last time i saw him was a furcon) is still alive, or he was that last con i went to, although that was 3 years ago, or was it 4?

i wonder if phillis gotlieb, and or jo clayton are still alive too.

If high fantasy is your style, I recommend Stephen Lawhead. http://www.stephenlawhead.com/ The Pendragon Cycle is a great re-telling of the Arthur legend. Dream Thief and Empyrion are both great scifi novels.

As I'm sure will surprise many of you, sci-fi and fantasy authors are not the only kinds of authors in existence. There are, amazingly, people who write in other genres as well. ;)
