About the claims process
Disaster can often strike without warning and often the true extent of the damage isn't revealed until days or weeks later. Many insurance companies will not make a payment until all the damage has been surveyed and that is what sets Southern Star apart.
Within hours of the disaster, a preliminary payment will be made direct to your account without the damage being completely surveyed. This initial payment allows you to start the clean up operation earlier so that your assets are back on line more quickly. Southern Star understand that time is money and we want to get you back in operation as soon as possible with minimum disturbance.
When the area is safe to enter, a Southern Star official will visit each affected site and make a quote on the cost of damage and the payment that will take place. Surveying for damage can take minutes but can also take days depending on the area affected. Southern Star understands that many people want to move on from disaster as quickly as possible which is why Southern Star takes great care to ensure that the claim process takes as little time as possible.
Once the total cost of damage to one area is observed, Southern Star will consult with contractors to determine a cost of labour for repairs and will then make the payments directly to the contractors for repairs or replacement to take place. Southern Star does not automatically select the cheapest workmen for the job but will ensure the people we trust to rebuild your assets
You can opt for a lesser direct payment straight to your account however the cost of labour will not be added to this payment.
