Introducció

The following is a record of the state of affairs in la República de Las Ranitas circa 16 Octubre, 2011, CE. This information has been made public by the generosity of the Ranitan government, and all figures are official and should be assumed to be accurate, although most figures related to the people of the nation should be assumed approximations. Necessary clarifications may be obtained by telegram if the government should deem the publication of such details a prudent move.

Geografia

The nation of Las Ranitas is an old, perhaps even an ancient land. Although megaliths may be seen still standing in parts of the country, the first significant civilization sprang up only around 800 BCE, when explorers from a foreign land landed on the southeastern coast of Las Ranitas at what is now known as Cala Antiga. This explorers brought olives, wheat, and grapes with them, and are often credited with naming our great nation. La ranita, or the tiny annoying frog, was so prevalent in the forests of the north that our land keeps their name, even to this day.

Las Ranitas may be imagined as a nation divided primarily into four major regions: La Selva, the northern region blessed with lush rainforests and diverse marshes and swamps; L'Estepa, the eastern highlands where so little grows; La Garriga, the densely-populated southern region that houses not only the nation's most historic cities, but the finest wineries, as well; and la Serra Brou, the scenic mountain range that divides the other three regions and provides much of the country's mineral resources.

The oldest and largest city in Las Ranitas is Cala Antiga, the capital of the country and site of the first settlement. Although much has changed since its first founding, visitors may find that Cala Antiga still holds some of that excitement and wonder that the first settlers found so many years ago. Cala Antiga houses many historic landmarks, such as the coastal fort built to protect the old harbor in the 1500s, an arena built in 235 for gladiatorial battles, as well as modern marvels such as Torre Granota, the futuristic glass tower built in 1997 to celebrate 200 years of peace, stability, and prosperity since the formation of the Republic.

The largest city in the north is Pacífica, which sits on the Riu Ruidoso near its source in the foothills of the Serra Brou. The city was founded in 100 BCE, as the people of La Garriga searched for new lands to settle that weren't dry and untillable, but weren't overrun with tiny frogs. The settlers of Pacífica had come across the Serra Brou from the southwest, and founded the city at the first site they found where they could camp without being kept up by the ribbits of frogs.

The principal city on the southeastern coast and in the largest in the region of L'Estepa is Bueyes, a city famed for its excellent cheeses and meats, as the grasslands of L'Estepa are ill-suited for farming, but sustain modest grazing. Many inhabitants of Bueyes today are involved in the textile or food industries, but a growing number of people have begun to put Bueyes on the world map as a motion picture capital in recent years.

Much of la Serra Brou is wild and uninhabited, although the city of Canyes provides a notable exception. Canyes was founded as a monastic community in the mid 700s, and has developed a unique musical culture in the past 1300 years. While it's as secular as any of the major cities in Las Ranitas, Canyes' many churches give the city a unique architectural heritage perhaps even surpassing that of Cala Antiga in grandeur.

Economia

In the days before industrialization, much of Las Ranitas was an impoverished backwater fit only for the sheep, cows, and frogs that it housed in its dusty plains and septic jungles. The nation's wealth was almost entirely confined to the region of La Garriga, and even the farmers and peasants there lived a life undeserved by anyone. Since the establishment of the republic, however, and its transformation into a modern country, prosperity has become widespread, and we have become able to admire the beautiful jungles and forlorn savanna of our land instead of cursing them for their mystery.

Istòria

Las Ranitas was first settled in 800 BCE, at the founding of Cala Antiga. Little went on until its annexation into the Fraggimian Empire in 150 BCE, by which point Cala Antiga had become a city in its own right, the surrounding lands had been cleared and settled and many people were looking for new lands to settle. Although indigenous people lived in the countryside beyond the settled regions around Cala Antiga, few records of skirmishes exist.

In 227 CE, Cala Antiga was captured by Emir Sidaxa of Africa, who declared The Emirate of La Garriga a nation under his sovereign control, and severed all ties to former nations and adopted a policy of isolationism. Las Ranitas grew during this era, expanding especially in L'Estepa. In the early 600s, though, a series of rebellions in the region near what is now Canyes lead to a dissolution of then Emirate of La Garriga and to the formation of countless (but not Count-less) kingdoms all across the land.

In 960, Aleix Rodrigeu de Bargespetru became ruler of La Garriga and L'Estepa, and took the title of Rei. Ruling the lands as the Kingdom of Canteras from his capital in Bargespetru, Aleix laid the groundwork for a dynasty that would last until 1549. The Kingdom of Canteras grew in that time to envelop all of what is now Las Ranitas. Many universities were established by the Aleixine dynasty, and learning flourished.

In 1549, however, the last Aleixine heir, Reina Llúcia II died with no heirs, and the throne seemed up for grabs. While one noble, Marçal de Gadir, claimed the throne for himself, it was not until two generations later that stability was achieved in Canteras, when Marçal's grandson Lluc I fought off an invasion from the west at the Battle of Fontafreça and gained the support of all of the nation's nobility, ending more than three decades of civil war. Although the Lluçian dynasty saw a departure from the sciences, all Lluçian monarchs were vivid patrons of the arts. It is during the period from 1590 to 1800 that many of Las Ranitas' most spectacular works of art were created.
The Lluçian dynasty came to an abrupt close in 1797 when a group of radical intellectuals, disappointed by the economic decline that the kingdom had been undergoing since the mid-1650s, and the kingdom's losses in an unpopular foreign war, forced the last King of Canteras, Rei Aleix-Marçal III, to abjure his throne and declared the start of a new republic. La Republica de Las Ranitas, headed first by President Oriel Castell, was a major turning point for the people of Las Ranitas. With the establishment of the republic came major social, economic, and political reforms, including the liberation of slaves and the formal dissolution of ties between nobility and the government. (In practice, many nobles still retained power in their realms by being elected to the new positions that the government created for the management of the country.) Resistance to these reforms was limited, but what resistance did appear was crushed with an ironic brutality.

From the foundation of the republic to the present, Las Ranitas has managed to stay out of any and all foreign wars, instead spending its time and resources devoting itself to the furthermore of science, technology, liberty and the arts. Significant progress has been made in all such fields, and the socialist policies pursued especially since the establishment of the Workers' Party of Las Ranitas in 1908 have spread prosperity to all parts of the nation.

Militares

Since 2008, la República de Las Ranitas has had no standing army. In the event of an attack on the nation of Las Ranitas, it is assumed that the people of Las Ranitas would be armed and sent into battle as the situation dictated, if no alternative methods presented themselves. Since such an attack would amount only to the funding and support of needless destruction, the slaughter of innocents, and many such other breaches of essential liberties and freedoms and a threat to the sovereignty of all peoples, few in Las Ranitas consider invasion a real threat.
