Genovia, officially The Kingdom of Genovia, is a country in the region of The Alliance of Grittonia, bordering San Pellegrino Romana. The capital city is Venta Silurum, and its largest city is Strasbourg in the state of Oslo. Genovia is geographically, a medium sized State within it's region. The founding of Genovia is very unclear however it is guessed to have been in the 1400s, before the Act of Unification in 1502. The first person mentioned to have led what was then a small community was a young man aged around 28 years old. His name is uncertain but records have been found, which suggest his name to be Akaknewko.

Genovia is a sovereign state in the form of a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy with several overseas territories and islands located on other continents, which create the Commonwealth of Gyflada. The Kingdom is a unitary state governed under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system, with it's seat of government in the city of Venta Silurum. It is a country in it's own right and the Commonwealth consists of eleven countries, including Genovia, known as Commonwealth Realms; Rabelliad, Beaumont, Marlborough, Shabti, Cranford, Apulia, Hayle, The Isle of Mann, Naples and Triabunna. Within Genovia itself, there are five administrative divisions. These divisions have various nobility attached to them, and have devolved administrations that have had certain powers granted to them by the main Governmental seat in Venta Silurum.

Genovia has many pine forests dotted around the country, and has 4 official rivers, though there are thousands of smaller rivers, and two official lakes which can be easily noticed on the national map. Genovia's temperature rises to 14°C during the winter, and the temperature in the summer can rise to 34°C, usually.
Genovia possesses the ninth-largest economy in the region. Genovia covers 11,035,000 km2 (4,260,000 sq mi). Over the past 170 years, Genovia has been a major power with strong cultural, economic, military and political influence in its surrounding area. During the 19th and 20th centuries, Genovia has colonised great parts of the Northern and South Eastern lands; during Genovia has built one of the largest empires of its same sized neighbours.

Genovia is one of the region's most developed countries, it enjoys a high standard of living as well as a high public education level, and has also one of the region's highest life expectancies. Genovia has been listed one of the "best overall health care" providers.

1436 - The foundations
The foundations of the community, which is now Genovia, were originally known as Borges. They grew their community through birth rates and sending out the men to pillage neighbouring communities. The first person recorded to lead the Borges is a man named Akaknewko. As the first person to be recorded, in 1436, it is assumed that he led the Borges community. However, Akaknewko was not the leader of the camp. The Borges community was a very democratic one, and the community was led by a council of five men. Admittedly they all recognised Akaknewko as the dominant power, but they could overturn any preference of Akaknewko's, to do this however they would all have to veto against him.

1502 - The creation of a kingdom
The First Ruler ever to be recorded was James I. James I was crowed King in 1502, when Genovia had a population of around 3 million citizens. James was known as a good, caring ruler, who created the first Constitution, and Bill of Rights for Genovia's Citizens. Parts of both these documents are still in existence today, and form parts of the Constitution and Bill Rights that Genvoia used when Matthew II was crowned King after the revolution of the iron fisted King, Charles XVI. Genovia has had it's fair share of iron fisted kings throughout it's history, so a declaration was made after the revolution that the present and any future Monarchs are not allowed to have total power. As a result there is a unique link between the Monarch and the Government.

Climate
Genovia is compromised of nine states, that are incorporated into the Sovereign State borders. The state of New Hampshire is home to the Hunter Range,
which is elevated at 15,782ft, the highest mountain range within Genovia. At top of Hunter Range is covered in snow, all year round, which makes for good skiing.
The second highest mountain range is located within the State of New Georgia, Mt Maria-Pala 15,744ft, only 38 feet lower than Hunter Range. This mountain too is
covered with snow all year round. As shown on the map above, Genovia has two noticeable lakes. These lakes are, along with many other areas of the nation,
National Parks, and as such all wildlife and nature are protected. This means they can not be hunted, injured, captured or built on.

Seasons
Spring is the period from March to May. Spring is generally a calm, cool and dry season, particularly because the Drakian Sea has lost much of its heat throughout the autumn and winter. However,
as the sun rises higher in the sky and the days get longer, temperatures can rise relatively high; thunderstorms and heavy showers can develop occasionally.
There is a fair chance of snow earlier in the season when temperatures are colder. Some of the country's heaviest snowfalls of recent years have happened in the first half of March and snow
showers can occur infrequently until mid-April.
Mean temperatures in Spring are markedly influenced by latitude. Most of the mountains are the coolest areas of Genovia, with average temperatures ranging from 8.8 to 10.3°C.
Summer lasts from June to September and is the warmest season. Climatic differences at this time of year are more influenced by latitude and temperatures are highest in southern and central
areas and lowest in the north. Generally, summer temperatures seldom go above 35°C. The record maximum is 42°C recorded in Faversham, Oslo in August 2003.
Autumn in Genovia lasts from October to November. The Serene Empire sometimes experiences an 'Indian Summer', where temperatures particularly by night can be very mild and rarely fall below
10°C. Such events are aided by the surrounding Drakian Sea being at their warmest, keeping the country in warm air, despite the relatively weak sun. Coastal areas in the northern half of
Genovia have on average the warmest autumns, with mean temperatures of 10.7 to 13.0°C. Mountainous areas experience mean temperatures between 1.7 and 7.5°C.
Winter in Genovia is defined as lasting from December to February. The season is generally cold, snowy and icy. Temperatures at night rarely rise above −10°C and in the day rarely rise above 15°C.
Towards the later part of the season the weather usually stabilises with less wind, less precipitation and lower temperatures. This change is particularly pronounced near the coasts mainly because
the sea is often at its coldest during this time after being cooled throughout the autumn and the winter. The early part of winter however is often unsettled and stormy; often the wettest and
windiest time of the year.

Tackling Environmental Damage
Within Genovia, there are many Environmental Issues that the Government are trying to attend too. Many of them are from such things as pollution and climate change. The Government are instituting
many new regulations to tackle these. As apart of the new 'Tackling the Damage Act' the Government are now putting a new tax on businesses that pollute the environment. The tax is set at 9.4%
and is estimated to bring an extra ƒ3.2 Billion into the Government budget, which will go towards Green Energy Building. The 'Green Energy Building' has already started, with the Government
contacting Energizia Inc, to supply 100% of Genovia's energy. A contract is yet to be signed.
The Government are also introducing new traffic regulations in the cities of Trebursye, Venta Silurum, Doublebois, Havelock, Strasbourg and St Blazey. The regulations are traffic calming measures
and to bring down the level of traffic and pollution. These regulations only allow public transport to used. The Government have further regulated this to only allow; trams, buses, coaches and trains
to be used. The buses and trams and coaches are expected to powered by hydrogen and electricity.

Genovia, Rabelliad, Hayle, Shabti, Marlborough, Triabunna, Beaumont, the Isle of Mann, Cranford, Apulia and Naples. William was born in Venta Silurum, and educated privately
at home.
His father ascended the throne as Matthew II in 1932. William began to undertake public duties when he turned eighteen. To begin with, his duties started off with attending
mere functions alongside his father. As time went on, William began to become patron to many charities, and started making public appearances by himself.

When his father died in 2011, William became Head of the Church and Monarch of 11 sovereign states. When asked by his Private Secretary what his regal name would
be William simply replied with "Ask the people, I represent them, not me." This was immediately seen by the public to show William was 'The People's King'.
When William was making the decision of which university to attend he decided to refuse, stating "it has been a long tradition that the males within this family attend the
Royal Military Academy instead of a university, and I do not intend to break that tradition now. Besides, it puts faith in the people that their Royal Family, and Monarchs have
military training, especially considering we command the forces."
This led to William serving in His Majesty's Army. After intense exercises and five years worth of training and undercover operations, William reached the rank of Field Marshal.

William is a keen academic and enjoys reading classical novels, as well as writing them. Alongside this he has a love for fishing. When in the summer residence it is not
unusual to see William fishing and asking the chef's to cook the fish for their dinner. In a bid to gain closer relations with San Pellegrino Romana William is taking
lessons in Italian, however he can already speak French and knows some Spanish.

Edward was born in Venta Silurum, the nation's capital, and was educated at The Royal Boys Academy, a private school for boys from the age of 3-18 years. Edward's father chose a course of English Literature, French, Mathematics, Science, Latin, Politics, Physical Education and History. When Edward left The Academy, he attended the The Royal University, where he studied the history of literature.

After attending university for three years, he enrolled into His Majesty's Navy, becoming a midshipman after two years. From here Edward went onto the Military Command School, which allowed him to be further elevated to the position of Capitan. When William succeeded to the Throne, he appointed Edward to the Position of Commodore-in-Chief of the 1st Naval Fleet, and promoted him to the rank of Admiral.

Edward is the patron of over 400 charities, including the President and founder of The Prince's Award. Young people progress through three levels of The Prince's Award programme to achieve a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Taking part builds confidence and develops self-esteem. It requires persistence, commitment and has a lasting impact on the attitudes and outlook of all young people who do their Prince's Award.

Upon the Emperor's coronation it was confirmed that Edward was to be further elevated to The Archduke of Strasbourg, Counsellor of State and an Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty, with regards to young people and equality.

About Princess Caroline

Mia (Mia Louise Grimaldi, born 3rd March 1984) is the only daughter of the deceased King, Matthew II and Kathryn I, and the third youngest sibling of William VI. She third is the second in line of succession, because the children of William VI and Annette I are not yet of the age of 18. Mia was born in Trebursye, and was educated at home, Mia's father chose a course of English Literature, French, Mathematics, Latin and Textiles. Upon her completion of school Mia studied for 3 years at The University of Shabti focusing on a Master's Degree in Fashion and Media.

Unlike the rest of her sibling's Mia refused to enrol in the military and instead pledged her support for charity work, opening three charities for disabled children, children with mental disabilities and one for children living in poverty. She then further became patron to over 523 charities, after invitations came flying in. So far Mia has raised over $5.6 Billion dollars for charity through fashion events, and is planning to open her own clothes line, with all the proceeds going to charity. She has donated a total of $10 million dollars to various charities.
Upon William's succession to the throne he appointed Mia as the Duchess of Trebursye, and Countess of Warwick.

The Monarchy

The Genovian Sovereign can be seen as having two roles: Head of State, and 'Head of the Nation'.
As Head of State, The King undertakes semi-constitutional and representational duties which have developed over 500 years of history.
There are inward duties, with The King playing a part in State functions in Genovia. Parliament must be opened with the King's political agenda announced, Orders in Council have to be approved,
Acts of Parliament have to be approved and signed, the Armed Forces to be commanded, the Church to be regulated and meetings with the Prime Minister must be held.
Image

There are also outward duties of State, when The King represents Genovia to the rest of the world. For example, The King receives foreign ambassadors and high commissioners, entertains visiting Heads of State, and makes State visits overseas to other countries, in support of diplomatic and economic relations.
As 'Head of Nation', The King's role is less formal, but no less important for the social and cultural functions it fulfils.
These include; providing a focus for national identity, unity and pride; giving a sense of stability and continuity; recognising success, achievement and excellence; and supporting service to others, particularly through public service and the voluntary sector. These roles are performed through different types of engagement. By means of regular visits through every part of the Serene Empire,
The King is able to act as a focus for national unity and identity.
Through his engagements and walkabouts, The King is able to meet people from every walk of life. The King's unifying role as Sovereign is also shown in his special relationships with the devolved assemblies in Rabelliad, Marlborough, Shabti, Hayle, Triabunna. In addition, at times of national celebration or tragedy, The King publicly represents the nation's mood - for example, at annual commemoration of the war dead on Remembrance Sunday, or at celebrations for a national sporting victory.
The King is able to recognise success and achievement in a personal way. These include honours, awards, visits, patronage and sponsorship. At Investitures, for example, The King honours
individuals for public service or outstanding achievement. The King's role is to:
Perform the ceremonial and official duties of Head of State, including;
  • Representing Genovia to the rest of the world;
  • Provide a focus for national identity and unity;
  • Provide stability and continuity in times of change;
  • Recognise achievement and excellence;
  • Encourage public and voluntary service.
He also hosts garden parties to which guests from all backgrounds are invited, most of whom are nominated by charities or public sector organisations for their service to their communities.
And in the thousands of messages sent by The King each year to people celebrating their 100th birthdays or diamond weddings, The King is able to give special and personal recognition of
remarkable individuals. The King also supports service to others, through close relationships with the voluntary and charitable sector. About 4,000 organisations list a member of the Royal
Family as patron or president. The King has over 600 patronages. In all these roles, The King is supported by members of the Royal Family, who carry out many of the engagements which
The King cannot undertake in person.

Image

Image

The King has semi-constitutional powers. He has some very powerful, and important ones too. The King is responsible for dissolving Parliament and creating elections. From the
winning party, the King then has the responsibly to appoint a new Prime Minister, by law he can only appoint the same person twice. The King then meets with his Prime Minister, and
their chosen Cabinet to establish his political agenda and the reforms that will take place. The King then uses this to summon both Houses of Parliament, to officially open Parliament, this
is known as the 'State Opening of Parliament'.
As legislation is passed by Parliament the King has to sign it into law. Generally, the King does this without any issue, however if it goes against his political agenda or against the
Constitution or Rights of Citizens Act he has the right to veto the bill, taking it to referendum. The King is by law the ultimate authority upon which law is created and voided.

Image

Image

The King as Sovereign is Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He is also the husband, brother and uncle of individuals either having served, or are currently serving,
in the Armed Forces. The King is the only person to declare war and peace. This dates back from when the Monarch was responsible for raising, maintaining and equipping the Army and
Navy. During peace, the King mainly performs ceremonial roles, such as Inspecting the Troop, attending a very small amount of Passing Out Parades, and attending the Trooping of Colour.
Sometimes His Majesty attends training schools to see the progress and the standards of the training.
The Sovereign's role within war time however changes dramatically. Throughout this time, His Majesty, with the advice of the; Prime Minister, Defence Secretary, Chief of Staff, and a
number of other high rank military officials, gives the orders for troop movements. He also gives order for the recruitment process, may declare Martial Law, may decide on conscript. His
Majesty's is the sole power within the Armed Forces.
His Majesty's Personal Guards, are trained in the military and are selected for further special operation and enforcement training. The only person that the Guards may take order's from are
His Majesty himself. At the order of His Majesty, the Guards may arrest and detain citizens, to be trailed by a court of three judges, and a panel of 12 jury members. However, this was last
used by His Majesty, King Matthew II, for the treason against the people of the state by his predecessor.

Image

Image

In the Serene Empire, The King's title includes the words 'Supreme Leader of the Protestant Church'. This means His Majesty has a specific role in the Church of Genovia and those
of the Serene Empire and Commonwealth. As an established Church, they are recognised by law as the official Churches of Genovia and her Realms, respectively. In both Genovia and her
Realms, the established Churches are subject to the regulation of law. The Sovereign is considered to be God's Appointed Leader on Earth, and therefore is the Supreme Leader of the Church.
Although the Sovereign does not directly hold services, they can have a direct approach in how the church works.

Education

Postby Gyflada » Sun Sep 18, 2011 10:37 am

The school year begins on 1 September. Education is compulsory for all children from their fifth birthday to the last Friday in June of the school year in which they turn 18. State-run schools, academies and colleges are financed through national taxation, and take pupils free of charge between the ages of 3 and 18. The schools may levy charges for activities such as swimming, theatre visits and field trips, provided the charges are voluntary, thus ensuring that those who cannot afford to pay are allowed to participate in such events. Approximately 93% of Genovian schoolchildren attend such schools.
A significant minority of state-funded schools are faith schools, which are attached to religious groups, most often the Church of Genovia or the Catholic Church. There is also a small number of state-funded boarding schools, which typically charge for board but not tuition.
Nearly 90% of state-funded Senior schools are specialist schools, receiving extra funding to develop one or more subjects in which the school specialises.

Image
Image

State-funded nursery education is available from the age of 3, and may be full-time or part-time, though this is not compulsory. If registered with a state school, attendance is compulsory beginning with the term following the child's fifth birthday. Children can be enrolled in Year 1 in September of that school year, thus beginning school at age 4.5 or 5. Unless the student chooses to stay within the education system, compulsory school attendance ends on the last Friday in June during the academic year in which a student attains the age of 18.
Under the National Curriculum, all pupils undergo National Curriculum Tests (NCTs, commonly still referred to by their previous name of Standard Attainment Tests, or SATs) towards the ends of Grade 2 in the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy and Science, but not in the foundation subjects such as Geography, History and Information & Communication Technology where individual teacher assessment is used instead. Students normally take GCE exams in the last year of Grade 4, but may also choose to work towards the attainment of alternative qualifications, such as the First Diploma. Tests at the end of Grade 3 were abandoned after the 2002 tests, where severe problems emerged concerning the strain on student's. Now at the end school's standard's are tested through the Grade 2 NCTs and the Grade 4 GCEs. Test results for schools are published, and are an important measure of their performance.

Years 12, 13 and 14 are often referred to as "lower sixth form", "middle sixth form" and "upper sixth form" respectively, while most secondary schools enter their pupils for A-levels, some state schools have joined the independent sector in offering the International Baccalaureate qualification or College National Diploma's instead.

Image
Image

The National Curriculum in the infant and junior stage provides a broad and balanced curriculum which is relevant to children. Incorporating the subject areas listed above the curriculum design ensures:
  • the curriculum meets the needs and interests of all learners
  • a broad and balanced curriculum is an entitlement for all learners
  • the curriculum is integrated with effective teaching, learning and assessment
  • the curriculum is at the heart of schools' strategies to raise achievement and improve outcomes for all their learners

The Education Act 2006 requires that all pupils in High School and Sixth Form education are provided with a programme of Sex education, including education about AIDS, HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases. While a statutory provision, this does not form part of the National Curriculum, and parents have a right to remove their children from this provision.
The Education Act 2007 (as amended) requires that all pupils in Grade 4 and in Sixth Form be provided with a programme of Careers education. This does not form part of the National Curriculum but is a statutory entitlement for all pupils.

Image

Almost all state-funded schools in Genovia are maintained schools, which receive their funding from State authorities, and are required to follow the National Curriculum. In such schools, all teachers are employed under the nationally agreed School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.
Since 2006, there have been 4 main types of maintained school in Genovia;
  • community schools, in which the local authority employs the schools' staff, owns the schools' lands and buildings, and has primary responsibility for admissions.
  • voluntary controlled schools, which are almost always church schools, with the lands and buildings often owned by a charitable foundation. However, the local authority employs the schools' staff and has primary responsibility for admissions.
  • voluntary aided schools, linked to a variety of organisations. They can be faith schools (often the Church of Genovia or the Catholic Church), or non-denominational schools. The charitable foundation contributes towards the capital costs of the school, and appoints a majority of the school governors. The governing body employs the staff and has primary responsibility for admissions.
  • foundation schools, in which the governing body employs the staff and has primary responsibility for admissions. School land and buildings are owned by the governing body or by a charitable foundation. The Foundation appoints a minority of governors.

There are also a smaller number of City Technology Colleges and academies, which are high schools funded and monitored directly by the Ministry of Education & Skills. Academies can also accept funding from private sources such as individuals or companies. The current government is greatly expanding the academy scheme by encouraging many schools to convert to Academy status.
All state-funded schools are regularly inspected by the Office for Standards in Education, often known simply as OSE. OSE publish reports on the quality of education at a particular school on a regular basis. Schools judged by OSE to be providing an inadequate standard of education may be subject to special measures, which could include replacing the governing body and senior staff.
