Conceptualization

In the late 1980s, during the Saril conflicts, the Arkinesian Federal Army found a clear gap in their helicopter transport and gunship roles. After the Iroquois Down incident in 1988, a result of the large UH-1 Iroquois crashing as a result of the tight space, it was determined that a new, small gunship/utility helicopter needed to be commissioned. The competing designs were based on the Amerikan Hughes 500 and Bell 206. The YH-3 was victorious, redesignated dependent on design the AH-3 or UH-3.

Design

MH-3A

The MH-3A is based on the Amerikan Hughes 500 series, in particular the OH-6 Cayuse. The MH-3A was the original development of the MH-3, the robust Hughes 500 frame chosen as it it could comfortably seat 4-6 passengers, as well as the two pilots. It also has two side doors, meaning it is capable of two side-defense weapons, either riflemen or mounted machine guns. Like most helicopters, the MH-3A uses the traditional two-rotor setup.

MH-3B

The MH-3B is a development from the Amerikan MD 520N. It uses MD's NOTAR (NO TAil Rotor) system, and uses compressed air torque instead of a second rotor, saving fuel. The MH-3B is quieter than the MH-3A, and includes some preliminary stealth design features. Like the MH-3A, it is equipped with FLIR as well as a variety of other modifications for various combat zones.

Purchase details

The MH-3A series is cleared for purchase by all nations. The MH-3B is cleared for purchase by Security Grade 2 nations. When ordering, there are different versions available. They are:
  • UH-3A Yumuga
  • AH-3A Yumuga
  • UH-3B Yumuga
  • AH-3B Yumuga
The UH series of the Yumuga are transports with self-defense weapons (i.e. machine gun mounts or rifle mounts), and the AH series are capable of transport, but can only seat 4 passengers as there is a greater need for offensive weaponry.
