Ambassador Ashton

Sir Ashton is a personal friend of former Grand Duke Charles I of Noordeinde-Nassau. The two of them had met eachother while attending Nieuw-Amsterdam University and became 'friends for life'. Though, afther graduating Charles attended a Military school in accordance with family tradition and Sir Ashton started working for a pretigious law firm the two of them stayed in touch.

Eventually, in 1975 when Charles was crowned Grand Duke he asked his 'old pal' Luke to become Marshall of the Royal Household. In the year 2000, Grand Duke Charles I of Noordeinde-Nassau presented Luke Ashton with an Honorable Knighthood in the Grand Ducal Order for his 25 years of service to 'the Crown'.

In 2005 Grand Duke Charles I of Noordeinde-Nassau abdicated and his sun; James I of Noordeinde-Nassau was crowned Grand Duke. In accordance with tradition Sir Ashton resigned and retired. However in January 2011 our Head of Government; President Jonathan Roosevelt requested him to serve his country one more time as Ambassador extroardinary and plenipotentiary.

Sir Ashton accepted and his appointment was recently confirmed afther hearings by Congress (By both the House of Representatives & the Senate), and he was sworn into office. And is currently awaiting your reply wheter the embassy may open it's doors.

The Dutch Democratic Republic of Knootoss is happy to exchange embassies with the Grand Duchy of Noordeinde. Our Head of State, Grand Pensionary Jan Willem Daatman, is eager to meet Sir Luke Ashton, and commends your government for providing such a comprehensive biography. We are grateful that your government has seen fit to present Knootoss the honour of receiving such a highly placed representative. The embassy, located along the road leading to the Wassenaar embassy district, will be ready to receive your ambassador. Permission to fly the national flag on the embassy's grounds is, additionally, granted.

In return, Knootoss would like to introduce Dionijs de Heere as the Knootian ambassador to the Grand Duchy. Mr. de Heere has an illustrious military career, having served as first officer aboard the battlecruiser KDF Sirithil nos Fëanor. As a naval officer, he was sent out to sea on numerous occasions, seeing action in our efforts to prevent unlicensed drug smuggling in Knootian Colombia. Acting as a liaison officer, he showed extraordinary skill in managing multi-national operations. Mr. de Heere can trace back his lineage to the earliest days of the United Provinces of Knootoss, when his ancestors were part of the rebels who resisted the Lavenrunzian occupation.

Grand Pensionary Jan Willem Daatman is currently preparing the grounds for increased cooperation between all Dutch-speaking nations, as well as nations which have historic ties to the Dutch Democratic Republic by ethnicity, culture or language. As part of this programme, Knootoss will encourage the democratic incorporation of Dutch-speaking territories of the Western Atlantic into the Knootian Federation. However, we are also interested in strengthening ties between other Powers with a strong Dutch ethnic presence, and promoting the Dutch Language Union. The Grand Pensionary would like to invite you to contribute to this important process.

Further exploration of the early history of the Grand Duchy could also prove beneficial, establishing whether Knootian ties have played a decisive role in the formation of your nation. The fracturing of the multiverse means that a lot of NationStates history is fragmentary. To remedy this situation, our historians would like to work with experts appointed by your government, in order to streamline what is known about the origins of our respective nations.

Matters of economy matter a great deal to Knootoss, and we would very much like to establish a bilateral Free Trade Agreement between our nations. Additionally, Knootoss has applied to join the Ryberg Institute of Mutual Trade. If accepted, free trade would naturally follow, pursuant to the conditions of the treaty.

With regards to bilateral relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defence has published the following: "The Grand Duchy of Noordeinde, though smaller than Knootoss, has similar values and a high international profile. The benefit of cooperation between these two Dutch nations should be obvious to any casual observer. Provided that an inquiry into shared histories proceeds smoothly, the Vologdov administration may choose to pursue a strategic partnership with Noordeinde. The Dutch Democratic Republic of Knootoss is happy to exchange embassies with the Kingdom of Grays Harbor, and welcomes Sir Anthony Wells-Parmenter as the new ambassador to our nation. Our security detachment is really the minimum we can operate, and is primarily ceremonial in function, although they are fully trained combat and security forces. They operate in 4 x 6 hour shifts. Their standard dress when on duty is our Service Dress Reds uniform (Series 1B). Their primary duties are to stand guard at the main entrance to the building and to monitor the security cameras.

0700-1300 – 1 S/Sgt, 1 Sgt, 3 Rankings
1300-1900 – 1 S/Sgt, 1 Sgt, 3 Rankings
1900-0100 – 1 SFC, 4 Rankings

On behalf of the Tribunes of New Edom and her people I am formally applying for am embassy exchange between our countries. New Edom is a small country emerging from the horrors of civil war. We have managed to obtain a cease fire through negotiations between belligerent parties and have of our own accord invited in international mediators, peacekeepers and NGOs. Over the last two months we have experienced increasing stability and have made great gains in foreign trade and in internal peace. We have begun the process of rebuilding government through a national democratic convention, and have signed the Minoan Trade Agreement in order to promote free trade as well as having secured a trillion dollar loan from Royal Calathonia in order to rebuild infrastructure and public works.

New Edom’s primary sources of gain are oil and tourism; we are also expanding into manufacturing of arms and greenhouse produced foodstuffs through development by foreign corporations. It is our ultimate hope to produce more of our own industry.

The Borlaug Building, named in honour of Norman Borlaug, is a proposal for a massive geo-engineering project of the coast of Knootoss to house various industrial and residential facilities. If constructed it will extract carbon dioxide, generate fuel and tidal power, and contain everything from affordable housing to penthouses and from casinos to factories.
