A representative of the Foreign Ministry released the following statement this afternoon:

To Whom it May Concern;

So as to preclude the neccessity of having to repeat ourselves, His Majesty's Government should like to make it quite clear that, given the spate of "What does our country think of you?" questions popping up with alarming regularity, that nobody in the Kingdom gives two flips what your country thinks of us.

Our Foreign Policy is driven by two concerns;
1. Is this in the best interests of the Kingdom?
2. Can this be used to our advantage?

Opinions of other, less civilized, nations mean little to us.

Under-Secretary for International Relations

It is Denmarks Royal Anthem "Kong Christian stod ved højen mast" (King Christian stood by the lofty mast). I just liked the way it sounds, and it seemed to fit my vision for my country.

GRAYS HARBOR POSTAL TRIVIA

Early in 1911, Stanton & Evans Ltd, the marketing firm responsible for advertising the Belmont Arms Hotel approached the Royal Posts with an idea.

The hotel management of the Belmont Arms insisted on placing a complementary stationary packet in each room, including a couple stamps for the guests to mail their letters with. George Williams, the Stanton & Evans executive in charge of the Belmont account, came up with the idea to make those stamps stand out, as one more bit of advertising of the Belmont. His initial idea was to ask the Royal Posts to make available stamps showing the logo of the Belmont Arms, but this was rejected by the GHRP as too commercial. However, not being deterred by this, he then came up with the idea of them making small booklets available to the hotel where they could add their own printing. Negotiations went on for several weeks and eventually the compromise was reached where the standard issue stamps could be made in 4 subject panes, with one blank to allow private printing. It was decided that the miniature pane would include 2 x 2d and 1 x 1d stamps. This would allow any combination of 2 domestic letters + 1 postcard; or 1 zone 2 international letter + 1 domestic letter; or 1 zone 3 international letter. This pane was issued with little fanfare on 14 June 1911, with several thousand panes being delivered for printing.

The idea was a complete success. The miniature booklets were very popular among the guests at the Belmont Arms, and soon after other luxury and tourist hotels began taking this up as well. By 1915 60% of all hotels had these miniature booklets.

Most not only added their own printing to the blank stamp, but also had specially designed booklet covers as well to further advertise their hotels. These Hotel Booklets, as they became to be known, quickly became collectors items as well, with the Royal Philatelic Society listing them as “back-of-book” items in 1913.

By 1941 the idea of making special 6 subject panes was broached. Some vending machine companies had been unofficially imprinting booklets with an open stamp since the 1890's, and now several advertising firms began to request special booklets for just that purpose. 1941 saw the issue of a 5 subject + 1 blank pane specifically for that purpose.

The practice of privately printed hotel booklets and advert booklets continues to this day.

MILITARY SERVICE QUESTIONAIRE

Q1: At what age are your citizens or residents eligible or required for military service?
Volunteer enlistment - 18 and have graduated secondary school
National service - 19
Q2E&C: Does your nation have physical strength requirements and health requirements? Or do you take just about any one who doesn't have a peg leg and a glass eye?
Good health and physical condition, within weight standards, must take the National Service Placement and Assesment Test (NSPAT)
Q3C:What methods does your nation use to put them in different branches of the service in example all conscripts may only serve in the infantry or all conscripts from X area must all serve in the medical corp and so on.
Volunteers may choose which branch of service to serve in, National service selectees may indicate preference, but 'needs of the service' is considered first. There are several services to choose from: MINISTRY OF DEFENCE; Army (armed service), Air Force (armed service), Medical Corps (non-combatant), Corps of Engineers (non-combatant): NAVAL MINISTRY; Navy (armed service), Fleet Auxilery (non-combatant), Fleet Air Arm (armed service), Marines (armed service), Oceanographic Bureau (non-combatant). Specialty within each branch is determined by NSPAT score and preference.
Q3E:What is the maximum age that citizens or residents may be to join the services?
40
Q4E&C: What is the length of time that is devoted to basic training?
Depends on Branch of Service and Specialty
Q5E&C: Are females allowed to serve?
Yes
Q6E&C: If Females are allowed to serve what positions are open to them in the services?
Restricted only by physical and mental qualifications. No branch or specialty is closed to them.
Q7E&C: Are homosexuals allowed to serve?
Of course. We aren't barbarians. Who and what a person is and does counts more than who they bunk with.
Q8E&C: If homosexuals are allowed to serve what positions are open to them in the services?
What a silly question. Whatever they as individuals are qualified for.
Everything you know about me is wrong. Or a rumor. Something like that.

Royal Artillery Uniform, 1801
Uniform for all was identical, Dark Blue Coat with Red Facings and Yellow Braid and Button Lace. Duchy and Regiment were distinguished by the Duchy military crest on the shako (as per the infantry), and by the regimental number on the collar.

Since the beginning of our membership in the WA, our post office, the GHRP (Grays Harbor Royal Posts), has operated a small branch office in our suites for the use of staff and harberian tourists and visitors. Given the large volume of mail which originates and terminates at this branch office, the GHRP has decided to upgrade the branch to a fully independent postal service available to everybody. The offices are located in Suite 17A, Building III, with a full service post office and philatelic center. The mail services include PO Boxes, direct delivery and mail pick-up.

Previously, stamps and labels from the GHRP were used, most generally with an overprint of GHRP/WAHQ in block letters. As of 1 January 2011, new stamps will be issued specifically for use by the GHRP/WAHQ Post Office. The stamps will be primarily in the most common denominations and will consist of 1p, 2p, 3p, 4p, 5p, 10p, 11p, 14p, 17p, 20p, 22p, 25p, 28p, 35p, 40p, 50p, 60p, 65p, Є1'00, and Є5'00. As most mail is sent using a metered stamp with the specific postal rate printed a new meter has been designed.
Image

The first official stamps issued were the IPU anniversary issue with miniature sheets in 25p, 35p and 60p denominations and a 14p booklet

While the design and issue date of the definitive stamps has not as yet been finalized, it is expected that they will be comprised of pictures of various scenes around the Kingdom and contain a portrait of His Majesty King Stephen VI.

There will also be commemorative stamps issued on an irregular basis, the composition and subjects TBD.

All current postal issues of the Kingdom will also be available at the Philatelic Center for collectors, but will not be valid for mail sent from the GHRP/WAHQ office after 1 April 2011.

Current postal rates of the GHRP will apply.

The Office of His Majesty King Stephen VI was saddened to announce that this morning at 0735 Her Majesty Dowager Queen Marilyn I died from Ovarian Cancer.

Queen Marilyn ascended the throne upon the death of her Father, King Paul Emil II in February 2005 when the airliner that he and her mother, Queen Elizabeth, were traveling in was shot down and crashed with no survivors. Diagnosed in May 2008 with cancer, Marilyn, in the interests of governing the Kingdom, abdicated for "health concerns" in favour of her cousin who assumed the throne as Stephen VI. She believed that the medical procedures and chemotherapy and surguries would interfere with her continuing to govern effectively and as such believed she had no choice but to see to the best for her Kingdom and abdicate. That she had advanced cancer was kept as a family issue and not revealed to the populace because she did not want to become a distraction for Stephen, or to be the object of pity. Born 14 July 1981, Her Majesty was 29.

Despite the best efforts of the royal physicians her cancer remained malignant and was determined to be terminal in October 2010. She died in her home of Montroyal Palace in Aberdeen.

The government has declared an official 21 days mourning for Her Majesty Queen Marilyn I. All flags in the Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth shall be flown at half-staff for the duration. King Stephen's Royal Standard shall be flown with black bunting.

OOC:How long did it take you to make this factbook?
Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.
