NS PLAYER INFORMATION

In the six plus years that NS has been in existence, people have learned a lot about each other. In order to facilitate that learning process and allowing people to know each other, this thread presents various pieces of information about the players of NationStates.

We're now on version two (V.2). As many of you know, Erastide had maintained the first version of this and have since retired. The old version of this has been archived for future generations to enjoy.

This thread is a melding of pictures, RL info on players, and political beliefs of players (especially those that debate in General). You can give as little or as much info as you want. Post your information in the Submissions thread. Directions for posting are located there.

FCC: More like the Federal Censorship Commison. Abolish it.

Gun Control: Moderate regulation. You know, stuff like waiting periods, papers to sign, background checks, age limits, and so on.
Immigration Policies: Make it easier to get into the country via legal means, so we can target the actual illegals, and not just anyone with brown skin.
Income Tax: Progressive income tax.
Israel/Palestine: Two-state solution.
Philosophy: Cynicism.
Political Party Affiliation: Independent, though I'd probably be NDP if I was Canadian.
President Obama/American Policies: Grow a thicker spine, dammit.
Prostitution: Legalize it, then tax the shit out of it.

Political Beliefs:
Abortion: Not a fan, but better legal and safe than illegal and unsafe. I'd advocate the promotion of adoption services over abortion, the reduction of the limit to 12 weeks, and subject all those who ask for an abortion to a psych evaluation to see if they can cope with the abortion.
Affirmative Action: No. It's discrimination.
Arms Trade: Fine. However, governments should bar companies from trading arms with groups with which they are at war.
Death Penalty: Vehemently against. However, I worry that sentences for murder and the like are getting far too short. 30 to life is about right.
Drugs: Don't legalise. Cannabis legalisation would send out the message that it's OK to smoke skunk and I'm sceptical about whether it would drive away dealers either.
Economic System: Free-market capitalism with regulated banks, Western-standard safety and unions laws, and some social welfare limited to those who need it.
Education: Mostly state, allow private. Bring in German-style tripartite education in UK. Agree to an extent with Browne Report.
Electoral College in USA Elections: Good- it makes the election night TV interesting. Imagine US election night with just a totaliser. Boring.
Environmentalism: Concerned about climate change, but needs to be done top-down. Bring in nuclear energy and cover the Sahara with solar plants.
Euthanasia: No. Too easily abused by NHS cost-cutters and would probably lead to decline in care for terminally-ill. Also concerned about disregard for sanctity of life.
Evolution or Creation?: Evolution with indirect divine interference to set in on the path towards humanity.
FCC: I like the way Ofcom in the UK works- so good if it's the same, or change it to like Ofcom if it isn't.
Gay Marriage: Civil partnerships with equal benefits, which I feel is a good compromise here in the UK. I find it perplexing that the gay community, oft so proud of its separate identity, generally wants to share a heterosexual institution. Also I'd like 1750-year-old Western cultural definition of marriage to be protected.
Gun Control: Legalise handguns in the UK with concealed carry. Regulate pending psych assessment, none for ex-cons, arm police.
Immigration Policies: Cap on immigration, accept mostly skilled workers and those in areas with shortages. Pull out of EU to control our own borders. Deport illegals. Encourage assimilation.
Income Tax: Tax on rich should be 40% at highest. Take as many low-earners out of income tax as possible.
Israel/Palestine: Israel's foundation was legal. Three-state solution (Israel/Jordan/Egypt) with aid to Arab states, population exchange after territory exchange between largely Arab border areas in Israel and largely Jewish areas in Jordanian West Bank. East Jerusalem to Israel.
Philosophy: Not delved too deeply into it, but am interested in philosophical issues surrounding God's existence. Science alone and the lack of proof for God as a basis for atheism without exploring actual philosophical issues (not just the problem of evil) is not that much better than Bible-bashing Christianity.
Political Party Affiliation: Conservative Party. Not a member.
President Obama/American Policies: He's not doing that great, is he? But then again, the Republicans have few answers. Better foreign policy approach.
Prostitution: Again, I'm very sceptical as to whether legalisation of brothels would drive the pimps away. Also don't want brothels in all their debauched glory springing up around town.
Religion: Good thing. It's done bad, and bad people have used it for bad purposes in the past, but it was a major force for keeping community spirit that exists outside the State until Church attendance collapse in the 1970s. Since I don't want State socialism keeping community spirit, I'd like religion to make a comeback in this way and be supported by the State. If non-religious people want a similar secular institution, I'd be firmly in favour.
Social Security: On the welfare state/benefits system in the UK, I support limited welfare, but only for those who actually need it. I also find it abhorrent that some people can earn more on welfare than by working, and this should be stopped.
The UN: Doing well, but its peacekeepers really screwed up in Bosnia.
Veganism/Vegetarianism: Not for me.
War on Terror: Iraq was silly, Afghanistan is right- but we should be allowed to take the fight to the Taleban and do like we did in Malaya.

Abortion: What other choice is there? Have kids when you want them, if you don't want a kid why should that kid be forced to have you as a parent?
Affirmative Action: Meh, do what must be done I suppose.
Arms Trade: Long as it's legal I could care less. Funding to radical terrorist groups isn't nice, though.
Death Penalty: If there doesn't appear to be any hope of rehabilitation, it's better all around to get rid of certain people.
Drugs: Do whatever you want with your body, but don't fuck with anyone else. Just because you want more drugs doesn't make you entitled to other peoples' things, and drug addicts should be firmly cracked down on when they break the law.
Economic System: Mixed-market, regulation to smooth the natural boom bust cycle and a relatively open market to encourage growth and promote general economic well-being. Labor laws to help protect the people, and a robust welfare state to provide a safety net.
Education: Should be the nation's top priority, and all levels of education should be open to every citizen based on academic ability rather than economic status.
Electoral College in USA Elections: It's a good idea, but should be less tied to public opinion. The American people are not competent to judge politicians based on their merits.
Environmentalism: We live on the Earth, it's only practical to minimize the damage we cause to it.
Euthanasia: 100% for it, should be the replacement to our current solution of "Let's starve them to death if they don't want to live."
Evolution or Creation?: Evolution. It's a law of nature that organisms adapt or die, and Darwin's theories have yet to be refuted, despite religious bluster.
FCC: Censorship is the bane of freedom.
Gay Marriage: Why is it an issue? Two people should be able to do whatever they can agree on so long as it harms no one else.
Gun Control: Registration and an enforced training course should be required for all gun owners.
Immigration Policies: Make it simpler, we need the workforce and they need government protection from abuse.
Income Tax: Progressive taxation promotes equality.
Israel/Palestine: It was palestinian land in 1948, and they haven't been exterminated quite yet. They constitute the majority in their areas and so they should have their own state, as opposed to their current state of apartheid and Israel's apparent declaration of war on anyone beyond certain imaginary lines.
Philosophy: What? People are people.
Political Party Affiliation: Independent, though lately I've decided to vote for whatever will help block the Republicans, since they're merely obstructionist pigs with no capacity or desire to think about what is best for the American People they claim to represent.
President Obama/American Policies: We need to curtail the abuse of civil rights, and stop intervening so damn much overseas.
Prostitution: Whatever someone chooses to do should be their right so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. Legalisation would allow for the protection of sex workers who exist anyway and are in a miserable situation due to their legal status.
Religion: No thanks, get rid of it ASAP.
Social Security: In current form it is broken. We don't need an enforced retirement fund, we need temporary help for those in need.
The UN: Should be given more teeth, and it's commanders granted more liberties in the field, yet with more oversight and discipline to prevent the human rights abuses and blunders they are famous for.
Veganism/Vegetarianism: Do whatever you like, it doesn't really appeal to me.
War in Iraq: Completely pointless, but as long as we're there we should fix the mess we made.
War on Terror: Shouldn't have been fought in the way it was. We need to finish pacifying Afghanistan, then get the hell out and rely on proper intelligence operations to bag Al Qaeda.

Religion: Religion is a poor substitute for Faith that typically involves it's members worshiping their religion more than their deity and the Clergy that use this as a means of acquiring and keeping authority.
Social Security: Guaranteeing a certain level of comfort and standard of living for those who can't reliably do so strikes me as a mark of a civilized society. But I question whether Social Security was intended as a savings account we are all entitled to collect from in our old age or as a form of insurance for those of us with no other financial recourse.
The UN: The UN was founded to prevent nuclear war. So far, so good.
Veganism/Vegetarianism: I respect the vegetarian lifestyle, but I boggle at the concept of artificial vegetarian meat substitutes. There are no such thing as vegetarian riblets!
War on Terror: After the Cold War came to an end, the Military Industrial Complex had to find an even more vague and poorly defined enemy than an ideology(communism) to keep the population fearful and the big bucks rolling in so they declared war on an emotion. Next will be the War on Dampness.
