Special Agent Zachary Quentin, who was also the agent in charge of the security of the talks, asked the head of the Maryginian delegation.

The Mostrovites now stood alone, indeed they were saddened by the loss of their recent steadfast allies the Luxiaian people. Now that they themselves were diplomatically isolated, there was no real choice but to recognise East Klent as an independent state - internal trouble was once more brewing back home. The head of the delegation walked up to the lectern.

'We the representatives of the government and associated polities of Mostrov, officially recognise East Klent as an independent state in accordance with our earlier statements.'

The Klentian delegation as a whole had keep themselves from jumping up and cheering. Cash looked at the list of nations that had recognized East Klent's independence aloud, "The nations of Maryginia, Western Cuba, Hasdian, Nazi Centauri, Hasdian and Mostrov all recognize our independence. That's six nations, one more than the number of nations that recognized our independence from the Badinians thirty years ago. This makes East Klent fully independent!" he exclaimed. The guards and K.B.I agents started clapping. Then the aids and messengers started clapping as well. Finally, the Klentian delegates started clapping, and cheering and patting each other on the back.

After about five minutes of this very unprofessional behavior, President Jupoi spoke, "Since the main goal of these talks has now been accomplished, I see no reason to continue them on the fourth of September beyond the investigations. But, we do still have one goal to accomplish here today, and that is to sign a peace treaty. Commander Willows and Secretary Rienburg, along with some of my speech writers, have written a document that pertains to the recognition and confirmation of our independence from Mostrov and agreements not to attack one another again, unless it is absolutely necessary that we do. In fact, why don't you two get the Treaty out, and I will read from it." President Jupoi suggested. "Yes, Sir." Cash agreed. He got the treaty out of his briefcase and handed it to the President. The Treaty read,

On this day, in this place, let it be known forever forth that delegates from the sovereign nations of East Klent, Grays Harbor, Western Cuba, Mostrov, Hasdian, Luxiai, Maryginia and Nazi Centauri came together in the city of Williamsburg, District of Klentia, to discuss matters of peace and recognition after the Liberation War, or Independence War, and have successfully fulfilled the goals that had been laid out for them by the people of East Klent. This document ratifies this agreement of international recognition of the independent Constitutional Republic of East Klent, as well as the agreement of non-aggression towards each of the involved nations. This document also confirms that the nation of Mostrov may never again lay claim to East Klent, or such an action will be thought of and acted upon as an act of war. This document notes this day as the total end of the Independence War and as the day of East Klent's full independence. From this day forth, East Klent will be known the world over as a sovereign and independent nation.

This document is put into international law with the following signatures,

"The Treaty has been signed by our five delegates along with six other members of our government including myself. Any other delegates are free, if they wish to do so, to add their signatures to the treaty." President Jupoi told them as he put the treaty down in the middle of the table along with five pens.

President Jupoi took a moment to look at the signatures. They seemed fairly large, but he accepted them, "You may add them to the Treaty."

As he was giving the General back his paper, Vice-President Nathan Carrington walked into the room. "Nathan, I didn't expect to see you here. Aren't you supposed to be in a meeting with the new Oversight Committee?" the President asked. "Yes, Sir, but they cancled. It would appear that they didn't have some of thier documents in order for the meeting." the Vice-President replied. "So, I thought I would come sit in on the signing." he added. "Okay then." the President said so quietly that he was barely audible.

The new head delegate of the Luxiaian delegation, Samuel Tresster, greeted Vice-President Carrington. He then reached for the treaty, picked up one of the pens and then signed the document. Then, one after another, the rest of the Luxiaians signed the treaty, until all five of them had. Tresster turned the treaty back to President Jupoi for him to read it.

The expression on the President Jupoi's face brightened with each signature, until a messenger came in and handed a note to Secretary Rienburg. After reading the note, the Secretary slowly looks up at the President. The President could see the anger in the Secretary's eyes. He looked away from him because he knew what was on the note.

Luther Rienburg was accidentally shot and killed by Special Agent Peter McKinley. Dr. Rienburg was caught in the crossfire between K.B.I agents and Mostrovite loyalists. The Medical Examiner discovered the bullet in Dr. Rienburg's corroded atery and sent it to the forensics lab at K.B.I headquarters in the Capitol. It was identified belonging to a Walther P-90 registered under Agent McKinley's name. The Luxiaians took the credit for the incident. Due to the classified status of Agent McKinley's mission, this information can not, under any circumstances be let known to the public. This message was sent on the President's orders.

Hoping to avoid any further communication with Secretary Rienburg, the President asked the rest of the delegates, "Is there anyone else who would like to sign the Peace Treaty?"

Lisa stood up and responded to the President, "On behalf of all the delegation from Hasdian, I would like to sign the treaty." She grabbed the pen and signed.

After she put the pen back down, Lisa suggested something to the Klentian delegation, "Might I suggest that you gentlemen have a Presidential election. If you want to signify that East Klent is a democracy, you should hol an election to either elect President Jupoi or another canidate from your other two parties. And, since you've had elections before, having one now shouldn't be too hard. I would also like to congradulate Commander Willows on his excellent leadership of your delegation and that he could be a great President." She sat back down.

"Um... thanks?" Cash accepted the compliment with some hesitation. "I like your idea, Miss Dowing. It would mean we would have a more democratic East Klent right off the bat, sending a definate message to the citizens and the international community that we are a democracy." the President agreed, adding his own thoughts to the subject. "We could start with primaries for each of the parties, Republican, Democratic and Unionist." Greg added. "The citizens would be able to vote for their favorite candidate, and then their party's nominee in a general election." Conald contributed his thoughts. "The President would be the presumptive nominee for the Unionist Party, and William Jones for the Republican Party since they were the nominees in the election before the war." Matt suggested. "There's one problem with that; the original Democratic nominee was the late Vice-President Molo," Cash said,"That leaves noone to be the presumptive nominee." he added.

Slowly, the rest of the delegates turned to look at Cash, "What?" he asked. "There's one person that I think would be a great candidate and hopefully nominee for the Democratic Party." President Jupoi said. "Who?" Cash asked. The President looked over at Lisa Dowing and then back at Cash, "You." he answered.

Cash was frozen to his seat from disbelief. "What do you say, Cash, you up to the challenge?" the President asked. "Mr. President," Cash began,"Bring it on."

Matt stood up and started clapping. Then Conald did, then Greg, Secretary Rienburg, the Vice-President and the many staffers, messengers and aids that were in the room. Cash and the President finally stood up as well and started walking to the front entrance of the Congressional Building, followed by the delegates and staff who were still clapping. Down the hall and then to the front Portico, where the press and citizens of East Klent waited nervously.

Then they came outside, Matt announced, "The presumptive nominees for the Democratic and Unionist Parties for the 2011 Presidential Election, Colonel Cash Willows and President Ramon Jupoi!" A thunderous applause ensued. The two men turned to each other and shook hands. The applause raised in volume. They turned back to the crowd and raised their hands into the air.

Infront of the dome atop the Congressional Building, the red, white and blue of the flag was blowing in the wind.

The Cost of Independence

A memorial service for those fallen in the Independence War and during the Peace Talks will be given at the unveiling of the monument to those lost their lives for East Klent, at 4:00 p.m. EST on September 20th. The President and his opponents in the election, retired Colonel Cash Willows (D), and Senator William Jones (R), are schedueled to speak at the unveiling.

In the Independence War, East Klent lost a total of 4,897 brave men and women. That's 3,992 combat troops, 534 non-combat troops, 141 militiamen, 129 police, 103 civillians, and 98 K.B.I/Presidential Gaurd/E.I.A agents. An additional 23,472 men and women injured, and 5 men and women missing.
