Sergeant Raionitu rallies The Black Hawks for the largest tag run ever attempted.

Operation Blackout is a go!

The night is cold and dark, as the elite warriors of The Black Hawks step onto the fields of tag for the largest tagging operation since Predator - perhaps even of all time. The fighting was fierce, with bloody noses and spotty wifi taking its toll.

As the battle raged on, the Hawks toppled several long standing monuments of the tag fields. First, the most tags since Predator, then, the most tags ever manually triggered. As the fighting raged on, they went for the most ambitious target they could have looked for. The all time tag run record. When the dust had settled, we discovered that this once proud monument of 112 hits, had been crushed underfoot. As such, the proud raiders dedicated a new monument to the raid of 121 hits. For the record, tonight was done with all manual triggers; the scripts were left at home.

Record set by TBR with legal sheets: 63
Record set by DEN with an illegal tool: 112
Record set by TBH with manual triggers: 121

I am very Proud of Rai for planning and triggering this, Derps for helping pioneer the method and strategy used, the whole War Room for helping shape some of the details, Mekhet and Koth for taking part as they even though neither could be WA, and the region as a whole for yet again putting a full DOZEN updaters on the field, this time even before counting the trigger and two folks thorning. 15 Hawks. Hell yes. Also many thanks to Aurum and his crew from KoA. We may have had wifi issues, lag issues, a late updater, an updater on a phone, and an updater that had to leave early, but we still fucking pulled this off, and made history. Huz-fucking caw, motherfuckers!

121 successes with 7 teams. That's 15-20 successes per tag raid. Not very impressive anymore yeah? Did you forget about this in your post?

Awesome run, and congratulations on all 3 records - although a good number of regions that you got delegacy in weren't actually tagged for some reason, looking through I thought it was deliberate until I got through the first few of them and the tags started. Great turnout as well. I don't remember any 19 man tag teams - the largest ones I can think of are in the early teens. Old TBR era may have had that, but the reports I skimmed through generally had single teams of far less.

Nice puppet.

Anyways, consider this. 7 teams requires getting enough updaters to have 7 teams in the first place. That's already a pretty immense organisational achievement. 15-20 hits per team is also a solid amount for one update, for one team. This isn't Predator days anymore. You don't have amounts in the 30s to 40s, if not more, on the regular.
7 teams also requires a solid amount of focus from both the triggerman and the switchers, to make sure no wires or anything are crossed.

It's impressive. Just not impressive-sounding when you oversimplify it as you have.

Six actually. T4 lost one member to wifi issues after the first hit, consolidated into T7 as they had a member missing and one on mobile, separated back out later, but that left T7 floundering, and then the loss of an updater forced us to consolidate again. Effectively, six. That means about 180 attempted hits (there were 30 triggers), of which 121 were successful (67%). One trigger was missed due to a lag issue on the trigger's end, so that was seven gone, 18 were defended, That leaves about 35 collective misses on the raider fault end, which I'll take considering that some of the folks out with us haven't tagged in months or more, and that the triggers weren't exactly hairpin. Our goal was greater than 54% effective rate, preferably above 60%, and we exceeded that, even in the middle of multiple technical crises. ...Not to mention, this is a tactic we've only started using recently, and never with this many teams, so this was a first in terms of organization as well. Shotgun Triggering isn't about 100% hit rate - it's about spewing out an excess of hits, in more teams than defenders can effectively combat. It suffers from a loss of accuracy, because you're triggering all the teams involved at once, but wins overall by sheer numbers. In that sense, you are right - the 30 hits per team list could be tighter in theory, perhaps pressing 40-45...but 30 was all we needed to beat the record tonight, and was a better match for the updater we had attending, at least four of which hadn't taken a point since before RO's were a thing :P

By that logic, you could disqualify the Predator records as well for their common usage of the rope method, and so forth. You'd be left with, I'd bet, the Cancer Slayer sheet record (the cited 63), which is impressive still in it's own right, as a show of expert and high-speed switching. This is impressive in different areas, namely prior organization. Both, however, are alike in that they occurred during one update, by the hand of one effort, led by one trigger. That's good enough for everyone involved, and, if it means anything to you, good enough for Syl as well, who was obviously present to set the Cancer Slayer record.

Cormactopia II wrote:You manually triggered 121 tag raids? Color me impressed.

The way the Shotgun method works, Rai only had to call 30 triggers.... but he still set 210 targets, so yeah, color me hella impressed too :P

Yeah, I think that happens to everyone (just edit the post so the ones that aren't tagged are not the blatantly in your face at the top while glancing through). This is pretty impressive - I heard about it prior from a few people but I didn't believe it until I saw it, especially with defenders being far more active than they were at the time the previous records were set (not sure what the previous manual record was).

Heh, I thought about burying them in the middle, but I'd already been working on them for almost two hours :P It's in rai's post now, maybe I'll poke hi to shove the first chunk in the middle ;)

We did get lucky - looks like at least tim wasn't on tonight, and they has some other business to take care of with a lib and two reinforcements. They did have some great stops, and at one point look to have split into two teams themselves. If they hadn't stepped back a few times, we would have been a lot closer to the record :P

It'd be hard to track a previous manual record. Sev once stated it for TBH as 24, but that may or may not have been exceeded at some point. Heck, I think i got close to that a few times in TEK... Anyways, most we'd hit in a while was 29 a week or two ago, in a much smaller scale test of this method, and that was the highest number of hits since the Predator scandal. That was... close to manual. Hand-set manual triggers observed by a sheet-like thing, but no calculations or call I believe (you'd have to ask derps for details). Rai has some trouble with that though, so he ran this entirely manually.

Yeah mea culpa. Last time I tagged large scale was TBR era, and there wasn't all this new fangled 'Regional Officer' rubbish to deal with.
Sorted it out after my old timer's moment though.

It's wonderful to have y'all along. I'm glad Aurum reached out a few weeks ago asking about further and closer military cooperation between us - I think it's proving exciting for both of our regions so far! You've got yourself a very good military leader; not many players out there like Aurum. ;)

It's wonderful to have y'all along. I'm glad Aurum reached out a few weeks ago asking about further and closer military cooperation between us - I think it's proving exciting for both of our regions so far! You've got yourself a very good military leader; not many players out there like Aurum. ;)

<3 I enjoyed coming along, it's always a ton of fun raiding with the Hawks
