Ujang Duong - Path to Harmony
Image

Account Name: Merizoc
Occupation: Senator, Monk

Party Position(s):
Co-Chairman

Constituency: NA
Political Ideology: Buddhism, environmentalism, nationalism

Family: None
Background: Born in 1962, Ujang Duong was raised by monks in a remote jungle monastery. The monastery served as a shelter for would-be victims of the ENC regime, including persecuted Buddhists and communists. The young Duong was tutored by some of these refugees, and learned more about politics, philosophy, science, and literature than the monks ever would teach him. Duong spent his early adulthood traveling the region, living in India, Thailand, Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, China and Malaysia. He returned to Elizia in 1996, and settled down in a small village, providing spiritual services to the townsfolk and sharing the food he made with them. However, politically conscious as always, Duong harbored resentment towards the ENC, and in 2002 embarked across the country stirring up Buddhist political involvement. He co-founded the Order of the Endless Knot, inspired by his time in India. This would later evolve into Path to Harmony. Monks had previously shunned involvement in politics in Elizia, but anger towards the atrocities of the ENC as well as the need for a response to the staggering poverty levels saw monks get more involved, campaigning and even running for office. When the Orchid Revolution came around in 2013, Duong and his movement stayed out of the way, shunning violence. When the war ended however, Path to Harmony took full advantage of increased democratic ability, with Duong among those at the forefront.

They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn,
But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn.
We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn
That the union makes us strong!

Louis Kim (LD-Isaacton)

Postby Vedastia » Fri Jun 24, 2016 4:49 pm

Louis Kim Choo Kai - Liberal Democrats
Image

Account Name: Vedastia
Occupation: Senator, barrister

Party Position(s):
Chairman

Positions in Government:
Former Minister of Economic Affairs

Constituency: Baragang-Isaacton
Political Ideology: Right-wing liberalism

Family:
Spouse: Jane Kim Choo Yen (Chinese: 金紫苑, Pinyin: Jīn Zǐyuàn, née Shion Nakaishi, Japanese: 中石 紫苑, Nakaishi Shion, born 8 June 1962)
Children:
  • Fatimah binti Luis (née Mary Kim Chun Lee, Chinese: 金真理, Pinyin: Jīn Zhēnlǐ, born 19 June 1985)
  • Lucy de Sauvage (née Lucy Kim Chun Oy, Chinese: 金真爱, Pinyin: Jīn Zhēn'ài, born 25 January 1988)
  • Philip Kim Chun Sin (Chinese: 金真信, Pinyin: Jīn Zhēnxìn, born 30 May 1992)

Background: Louis Kim Choo Kai (Chinese: 金祖皆, Pinyin: Jīn Zǔjiē) was born in Baragang on 29 December 1958 to Doris Wee Lee (née Wooi Wee Lee, Chinese: 韦伟丽, Pinyin: Wéi Wěilì, born 20 May 1925) and Frederick "Freddie" Kim Shi Siong (Chinese: 金自颂, Pinyin: Jīn Zìsòng, 8 August 1919 - 15 September 1998), a successful merchant. Both of his parents are of Hakka ancestry. Louis's patrilineal great-great-grandfather was a Kaifeng Jew who converted to Catholicism and married a Hakka woman before immigrating to Elizia. Louis's family often had to move back and forth between Baragang and Hong Kong because of war and political instability, first moving during the Japanese occupation of Elizia during World War II and then during the late '60s as conditions for the Chinese and other non-Malay groups worsened. With his retail business no longer a reliable source of income due to multiple relocations, Freddie expanded his business from retail sales to transportation, later becoming a major shipping magnate in the South China Sea. Louis previously attended Catholic parochial schools in Baragang, but the relocation to Hong Kong had him attend the King George V School. He had one elder brother, Alexander Choo Kong (Chinese: 金祖光, Pinyin: Jīn Zǔguāng, 17 July 1951 - 4 April 1972), who chose to stay behind and attend university in Baragang to monitor shipping operations in the region, but was murdered by the ENC regime for his ethnicity and previous vocal support of Barisan Elizia. His death deeply affected the Kims and inspired Louis to go into public service in order to stop more deaths. After graduating from KGV, Kim earned an LLB from the London School of Economics and later a Master of Arts in International Relations from Sophia University in Tokyo. It was here where he met his future wife, Jane, who was studying management as an undergraduate. Jane, who came from a family of wealthy coal mine owners, married Louis in Tokyo shortly after his graduation. After working in Tokyo for two years, which allowed for Jane to graduate, they relocated to Baragang. The Kims relocated at a time when the Elizian economy appeared to be on the path to recovery. In addition to his income from working as a barrister, Louis received very substantial dividends from his stake in his father's company, Coral Marine Logistics, while his wife ran regional operations. Jane's work was eyed with suspicion in the very conservative environment of Elizia, but she still ran CML's regional operations exceptionally well. Along with the rest of Elizia, the economic crisis and increasing violence changed fortunes for the Kims. The Kims sided with the Chinese rebels and helped finance them. He originally thought that Kenyalawak should secede from Elizia and form a majority Chinese nation, but when the National Council for Democratic Salvation was formed, he supported remaining in Elizia instead. Kim was one of the signatories of the UN ceasefire, representing the NCDS. Under the UN administration of Elizia, Kim found the Federalist Party (Malay: Parti federalis, Chinese: 聯邦黨, Pinyin: Liánbāngdǎng), which advocated for a new civic national culture and federalism. He joined the Liberal Democrats upon the dissolution of the Federalist Party.

With his wife, Jane, Louis has two daughters and one son. Mary, their eldest daughter, attended St. Stephen's International School in Rome and the American University of Paris, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Global Communications with a minor in Art History. She married Raja Khalid Sultan Musa, Crown Prince of Kenyalawak, eldest son of Sultan Musa III, and converted to Islam prior to their marriage, taking the name Fatimah binti Luis. They have two sons, Raja Azlan Iskandar ibni Raja Khalid and Raja Musa Yussuf ibni Raja Khalid. Lucy, the Kims' younger daughter, attended River Valley High School, Singapore, and the National University of Singapore, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial & Systems Engineering and an MBA. She married Sylvester William de Sauvage, heir to the Sauvage Automotive fortune, in Kentang. They have two children, Kenneth Alexander de Sauvage and James Louis de Sauvage. The Kims' only son, Philip, attended St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he earned an MPA this year. He will be commissioned into the Elizian Army shortly. The Kims speak English at home.

Dislikes: Slow cars, unreadable handwriting, authoritarianism

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?: Yes, and I am open to more.
  • How should ethnic tensions be resolved? - Elizia is a multicultural nation and has been for quite some time. While difference should be celebrated, there must be some unifying factor. English needs to supplant Malay as the national language. People should be educated both in English and their respective culture's mother tongues in order to form a more unified national identity while at the same time preserving their old one. Singapore provides an excellent model for this. However, Elizia is much larger in terms of both land area and population, not to mention separated into several islands with different concentrations of ethnicities. There must be national standards for education that promote this new Elizian national identity.
  • What are your stances on government structure? - Elizia should remain federal. The fact that Elizia is a multicultural nation based around an archipelago makes a unitary government both impractical and unfair to its inhabitants. While there should be an all-encompassing Elizian national culture, the differing needs of our cultures as well as other regional differences must not be overlooked.
  • What is your stance on affirmative action? - While the Chinese and other minorities have been subject to heavy discrimination and violence by the Malay-led government and that problem must be remedied, affirmative action would just cause more problems than it would solve. If the Malays are denied opportunities that would otherwise be available to them without affirmative action, they will feel just as disempowered as they were under British rule and either elect the ENC back into power or install it in a coup. Elizia's wounds have only just started to heal. We do not need to open them again.
  • Should Elizia be a republic or an elective monarchy like Malaysia? - Personally, I believe that the monarchy would be a better solution. While all of the subnational rulers are Malay, they could be used to create a new civic national identity around figures who would be politically neutral in theory. An executive presidential republic would require one person to approve or reject all of the laws passed by the legislature. Since this person would most likely be of only one ethnicity, the other ethnicities would feel disenfranchised and cause more uprisings.
  • What currency should Elizia use? - The Elizian dollar must be stabilized. We have to be able to control our own currency if we are to recover economically. Our population currently has no choice but to use either Malaysian ringgits or American dollars, neither of which Elizia has any control over. We will have to continue using these currencies for several more years, but there will come a point when the ability to control our own economy with our own stable currency is absolutely necessary. The Elizian dollar should be reintroduced and temporarily pegged to the US dollar before letting it float.
  • How should Elizia's economy recover? - Elizia must further expand its industry. Subsidies and tariffs are necessary to allow our industry to grow enough not only to recover our economy, but for it to thrive. We must follow the example that many of our neighbors have set and become an export economy. Elizia should consider lowering its other taxes to encourage foreign investment and possible immigration of well-off people looking to bear less of a tax burden than their countries of origin. Recognizing the People's Republic of China over the Republic of China would also help boost investment. Boosting tourism should be a top priority for the next government, as well. However, the current state of the nation is unstable due to ethnic tension and poverty. The ethnic tension can be resolved by promoting a new, inclusive form of nationalism in Elizia.
  • What is your opinion on Elizia's debt to the IMF? - It is a heavy burden, but it is one that Elizia can bear. While I plan to introduce a basic welfare state to Elizia, we still cannot afford a welfare state that is as extensive as many in the West, especially with the debt we owe to the IMF on top of all of the government's other obligations. Times will be hard, but we have suffered through much worse already. We must have a stable economy before paying off any debt owed to the IMF, so we must work toward not only stabilizing it, but making Elizia prosperous in the process. Reduce corporate and personal income tax rates to encourage foreign investment, reduce regulatory burdens on manufacturing, and put import tariffs in place in order to develop our industry further and have a dynamic economy.
  • What is your response to the Senate voting to leave the International Monetary Fund? - It is a great disappointment that the Senate has voted to leave the IMF, both to the Government and me personally. Elizia's credit rating will most likely be lowered even further. We had enough difficulty obtaining credit as it was, but this is still a major setback, even in light of our dire situation. However, the Senate has made its decision, and we will try to overcome the difficulties that leaving the IMF has presented us in the most effective manner possible. While the negatives of leaving the IMF outweighed the positives, that is not to say that there were no positive outcomes at all from the passage of the FSA. One of the benefits that it will bring is the cancellation of much of our debt. Because of that, we will be able to accomplish many of our policy goals earlier than expected, such as issuing our own stable currency and implementing a basic welfare state. Times will be leaner than before, but Elizia can still improve, even without the IMF. I hope that the Government chooses to conduct Elizia's departure from the IMF smoothly and in a way that alienates as few nations as possible.
  • Do you support the West's sanction regime against Iran? Why or why not? - I condemn Iran's totalitarian theocratic regime, but the West imposing sanctions against Iran is the business of the West and Iran.
  • How should Elizia interact with other Muslim nations on the regional and global stages? Is it any different than other diplomatic relations? - Firstly, Elizia is not a Muslim nation. A plurality of Elizians are Muslim, but Elizia is not a Muslim nation. Secondly, diplomatic relations should be handled on a case-by-case basis, regardless of religion.

Hajj Mohammed bin Osman - National Islamic Party
Image

Account Name: Costa Fiero
Occupation: Politician, lawyer, activist

Party Position(s):
Chairman of the National Islamic Party

Positions in Government:
N/A

Constituency: Pisang
Political Ideology: Islamism.

Family: Aminah Sharifah bint Yusuf (first wife), Zainab Khalil bint Yaakob (second wife), 15 children
Background: Hajj Mohammed bin Osman was born in Johor Baru in British Malaya on October 5, 1946. His father was an administrator for the British colonial government in Malaya and his mother worked as a schoolteacher. Osman was the oldest of six children in a moderately wealthy family. He received his primary and secondary education at local schools within Johor Baru. Although his father, a devout Muslim, wanted him to pursue religious studies, Osman resisted and enlisted in the Malayan Army on his 18th birthday in October 1964. He was deployed to Borneo during the Konfrontasi with Indonesia and served here for six years before he was court-marshaled after he shot dead a woman during a drunken confrontation in a bar frequented by military personnel in Kota Kinabalu.

Osman described the experience as "sobering" and upon hearing the death of his father during the trial, vowed to fulfill his father's wishes. He became a teetotaler before travelling to Saudi Arabia in 1970, where he completed the Hajj and attended university at the Islamic University of Madinah. He became interested in Islamic law and obtained a Bachelor's in Islamic Law in June 1975. He returned to Malaysia in January 1976 where he stayed for less than a year after he fell out with the rest of his family, who were concerned about his radicalism and Salafist views.

This disagreement led to Osman emigrating to Elizia in December 1976, where he worked as a clerk for the government. He became involved with land redistribution and soon became an advocate for the rural farmers whose land was being appropriated by the government. It was during this time that he also completed more studies in Islamic law in Kentang and how to apply for Islamic law. Osman spent the first four years moving around Elizia before settling in the city of Pisang in June 1980, where he worked as a lawyer for the family court system.

Osman entered politics in 1989, becoming a political advocate for the conservative areas on the main island. He founded the National Islamic Party in 1992 but had to be driven underground because of its political views. During this time, Osman came into contact with Mohammed Bakar, a known radical preacher who had contacts with sympathetic government soldiers and officials. Although Osman denies this, he is accused of having helped found the Army of God in January 1993, which carried out small scale attacks on police and military personnel as well as attacks on Bhuddist and Hindu temples. In 2002, Osman went into hiding after the Pisang bombing the previous year in which 32 people were killed after a car bomb was detonated outside a nightclub popular with foreigners. He reemerged in 2013 during the Orchid Revolution, with the Army of God succeeding in making most of the chaos that followed in 2014 and 2015, seizing the city of Pisang from government control and instituing Sharia. It wasn't until a brief battle with UN troops that the control over the city by the Islamists ended and the Army of God formally disbanded.

Today, Osman continues to serve for the rights and interests of Muslims, in spite of the looming rumours and implications in terrorist acts.

Positions in Government:
Minister for Foreign Affairs

Constituency: TBA
Political Ideology: Right-Wing Liberalism, Economic Liberalism, Populism

Family: Nadeem bin Musa (Father)
Background: Katijah is the daughter of Nadeem bin Musa, a prominent member of the Elizian National Congress during it's rise to power and control of Elizia. Katijah herself was a strong supporter of the ENC. In 2013, however, she found herself disillusioned with the ideology of the National Congress due to its violent response to the Orchid Revolution, her father's death, and the ultimate failure of the ENC government. With the new provisional government forming due to the United Nations mandate, she decided to run for office to atone for her father's disservice to her country.

Katijah has been a critic of authoritarianism and a defender of economic liberalism and free trade. She believes that Elizia should work towards an efficient economy with minimal government interference. Her goal in holding office is to lead Elizia out of its current, messy state of affairs into a bright, independent, and free future.

Upon graduating with first class honours in 1984, he returned to Elizia, only to find that the ENC had cracked down on the Chinese, and his parents were nowhere to be seen. He left the country again, bringing his girlfriend, Tan Fang-ling, who he had met in Cambridge. Tan, who was a Singaporean, escaped with Richard to Singapore, where he was granted asylum.

He spent the nineties in exile, as a very prominent critic of the Elizian regime, shuttling back and forth between Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and Singapore to make speeches on the regime and its leadership. This, of course, made him a top target for the then-ENC leadership, who placed him high on their target lists. He married Fang-ling in 1992, and had their first child, Thomas, in 1993. Their second child, Marcus, was born in 1995.

He was kidnapped by ENC operatives in 1997, the hitmen injuring his wife and killing his second son, Marcus, when they threw him against a closet wall too hard. Lam was forcibly extradited to Elizia, where he was incarcerated, becoming famous as a political prisoner. Nobody knew whether he was dead or alive.

Richard became witness to the horrific atrocities in the prisons of Elizia, with there being a hierachy of the common prisoners. Richard, being a political prisoner, was left out of the system - but plans to publish a book about the horrors of the Elizian prison system.

He broke out in 2010, and escaped offshore to Vietnam, where he was forced to go underground for three years, before revealing his existence to the world on June 27, 2013 - the first day of the Orange Revolution in Elizia. Returning to Singapore, he quickly helped with the war effort by giving speeches in favour of the revolutionaries. A failed assassination attempt in 2015 saw part of his collarbone being chipped, but he has since recovered since then.

Following the end of the Orange Revolution, Lam met Siva Jeyaratnam, a disenchanted former member of the Elizian National Congress, and set up Elizia First together.

Kevin Katdare - Liberal Democrats
Image

Account Name: Collatis
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s): Chairman
Positions in Government: Former President, Shadow Minister for Finance
Constituency: Ba Sing Ghey
Political Ideology: Radical Centrism, Liberalism, Internationalism

Family: Divya Katdare (wife), Milan Katdare (son)
Background: Kevin Katdare's ancestors came to Elizia at the turn of the 20th century as immigrant workers from their native India. His grandfather served in the Royal Elizian Air Force during World War II, and was fiercely pro-British, opposing independence after the war. Not only was Kevin's grandfather loyal to Britain, but he also feared that an independent majority Malay/Muslim Elizia would result in discrimination against the many Indians, Chinese, and Vietnamese who made Elizia their home. On this issue, Kevin's grandfather and father disagreed. Although Kevin's father, Rohan Katdare, also shared a love of Britain, it did not extend to a loyalty, and he considered himself an Elizian first. However, Rohan quickly turned against the new Elizian National Congress Government, for its authoritarian policies and limitation of trade. During the 1960's, Rohan became both a successful merchant in the new middle class, and a prominent and consistent opponent of the regime. As both a member of the opposition party and an ethnic minority, Kevin's family was one of the many targeted in the 1971 Elizian "Red Scare". Over a three year period, not only was the Katdares' business decimated, but Kevin's grandparents, mother, and older brother were among the 70,000 who were slaughtered by the government and its supporters. Kevin and his father only survived thanks to his connections in Britain which allowed them to escape to safety in the nick of time. It was in London where Kevin subsequently grew up. Kevin attended Oxford, becoming the first of his family to attend college. It was there where he met his wife, Divya. From London, Kevin rebuilt his father's business and gained substantial wealth. He funneled a significant amount of it to prominent resistance groups in Elizia, eventually returning there with his wife and son in the late 2000's, joining the Orchid Revolution. Moving back to his hometown of Ba Sing Ghey, Kevin helped rebuild the city of disproportionately poor Indians, Chinese, and Vietnamese people to the modern middle class bastion of arts and culture that it had been before the 1971 Red Scare. Kevin played a large role in forming the National Council for Democratic Salvation, and used his influence in the West to help direct the attention of the United Nations and western media to the civil war in Elizia. When victory was finally achieved, and parliament was to be elected, Kevin ran as a Liberal Democrat on a platform of opposition to corruption, prosecution of human rights violators, and liberalization of trade.

Any Questions from the Public to be answered? - Open to questions
  • What is your opinion on Elizia's debt to the IMF? - The question of the debt accrued by the Elizian National Congress is certainly a difficult and complicated one. It seems unfair to many, myself included, that this new government would be forced to pay the debts owed by the regime we fought so hard to overthrow. However, if we wish to be taken seriously by the international and financial community, we must pay at least a portion of these debts. I recommend we renegotiate our debts with the IMF, so that we may pay the fairest amount possible.
  • What is your position of the economy? More specifically how do you think the Elizian government should direct its economic forces and how should we develop it? - Our first action in terms of the economy must be to eliminate and lower many of the remaining tariffs from the previous ENC regime. This will allow our economy to grow through involvement in the world economy and foreign investment in our nation. We must loosen many of the arbitrary restrictions the ENC had on domestic industry, while also establishing common-sense regulations to protect consumers. We should also become a member of ASEAN to spur trade with our southeastern neighbors.
  • Mr Katdare, would you favour legislation intending to establish the English tongue as the national, unifying language of the state, thereby displacing our variety of the Malay tongue, Bahasa Elizia, in the administrative realm, save for occasions in which its continued use would be practical and sensible as part of our attempts to bring a ‘principled pragmatism’ to Elizia? If anyone were to describe you as a ‘proud Elizian’, would you agree with this portrayal and consider it just? - I believe that English should be established as a national language, along with Malay and the other languages that define Elizia and make it unique. I am an Indian, a liberal, an internationalist, a Brit, a Hindu, a businessman, a citizen of the world, and a lover of art. But I would describe myself first and foremost as an Elizian, and a proud one at that.
  • What is your favourite type of soup? - Mulligatawny soup. It has connections to both my ancestral homeland and my adopted homeland, and tastes oh so good.

Juwita bin Fajar - Social Liberal Party
Image

Account Name: Normandy and Picardy
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Party Chairman

Positions in Government:
Shadow Secretary for Social Development

Constituency: Sungai Sampit North
Political Ideology:Social Liberalism, Internationalism, Pacifism

Family: Spouse: Teratai Hamengku (born 7 November 1975), no children
Background: Juwita bin Fajar was born on 14th June 1977, to Fajar bin Mastini and Naadiya binti Muhammed, who live in the capital of Kentang His parents had just enough money to send him to a good school, which allowed Juwita to come in contact with Social Liberalism, although he obviously kept it quiet during the time of the ENC. As he developed his own politcial ideology under the shadow of the ENC, he also cared for his father who had fallen ill. He studied Mathematics at the University of Oxford on a scholarship, but living as a mathematician was not how he wanted to live. However, he paid for his parents to move to Britain in order to escape from the ENC regime, using his wage as a Bank Manger to pay for it; however, his father died before he could come over. As a result, Juwita grew closer to his mother during this time. When the ENC was replaced by the UN, both Juwita and his mother moved back to Elizia, with Juwita taking a job as a bank manager, but at this time he vowed to ensure that the days of the ENC were never repeated again; he is well known for wanting the ENC leaders to be put on trial, despite the treaty put in place. Despite being from a fairly well off family, he has always held the concerns of the poor to hard, having lived near one of the slums and having one of his best friends come from there. Finally allowed to express fully his politcial beliefs, he joined the Liberal Democrats, and since then has been campaigning on a number of issues, including opening to International Trade, the trial of the leaders of the ENC and a National Insurance scheme. He later decided to join the Social Liberal Party, not citing the reasons why.

Faith: Muslim (Sunni)

Likes: Social Liberalism, Tea, Globalisation
Dislikes: Authoritarianism, Isolationism, ENC

  • What is your opinion on Elizia's debt to the IMF?
The debt developed by the ENC will remain a constant burden on our country for many years to come, and only a progressive economic policy were we help people to help themselves will ift our economy to the point where we can begin to pay back the debt. Of cause, we should never expect o pay it all back, even if the IMF wwants us to, and we must renogotiate to find a way to restructure a debt. We can't simply ignore it; we must rebuild our global reputation, and ignoring debt is no way to do that. But how do we do that? We must give businesses, especially multinational businesses, the freedom to invest and to grow, and using reasonable rates of corporation tax we can ensure that the nation gets its fair share. But where we help businesses, we must also help normal, working people. We must help the unemployed into work, and give the employed the scurity we need. We must set a minimum wage to ensure Elizians aren't being exploted, and a National Insurance scheme will help provide a small safety net provided you pay into it. And so, schemes like this and many more will allow us to grow the economy, and using this we can begin to deal with the staggering debt, and this and negotiaitons with the IMF and our debtors should help with the rest.

  • Honourable member, what are your priorities in view of Elizia’s current situation? What do you hope to accomplish in the first days, weeks and months of government?”
Obviously, the most pressing matter is the creation and the introduction of a constitution for Elizia, one with Democracy at its heart. We need to ensure that the horrors of the past under the ENC can never be repeated again, and that we as a nation can march on into the future without the fear of oppression returning to our nation. Then, we need to open ourselves to the world, and encourage investment from both the rest of the world and from Elizian businesses, and the government must try to build a new Elizia, open for business, so that our economy can be improved. I also wan to bring in a National Insurance Scheme as soon as possible, to help ordinary Elizians, to help the poor and disadvantaged. We need to protect the rights of working people and businesses, and so providing some level of a saftey net - in return for payments into the scheme - will help this, along with the introduction of a minimum wage. It is about balancing the needs of both the rich and the poor, so that we all can prosper.

Yohani Rudao - Path to Harmony
Image

Account Name: Skappola
Occupation: Senator
Party Position(s):
Co-Chairman

Positions in Government:
Senator

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Political Buddhism, Aboriginal Rights, Communalism

Family: Fen Rudao (Wife), Synan Rudao (Son), Li Rudao (Daughter)
Background: Yohani Rudao was born in 1971 to a respected aboriginal family on the Ngaju reservation of the northernmost island. Son of the chief, Yohani chose to join a Buddhist monastery on a neighboring island at the young age of 16 despite his parent's wishes. As in most monasteries, the monks took in political dissidents and refugees from the government's harsh rule, eventually drawing the government's ire. In 1990, the monastery was accused of providing asylum to fugitives and communists, and was demolished by the Elizian military. Yohani and a number of other monks had escaped the night before. Yohani returned to his family in the Ngaju reservation, becoming chief at the age of 21 following his father's death.

Yohani became highly involved in politics following his ascendance to the position of chief, and fought throughout his life for the rights of the aboriginals at the hands of the ENC's malay government. He was a primary leader in the orchid revolution, and even attended the final riot at the capital which ultimately brought down the ENC. He came into contact with the Path to Harmony soon after and, despite his more violent past, chose to join the movement and represent his people in the newly-formed government.

Dr Léon Dimitri Mourani, PhD - Federalist Party
Image

Account Name: Filimons and Frodtthiuda
Occupation: Senator, historian, writer and university professor

Party Position(s):
Deputy Chairman of the Federalists
Positions in Government:
N/A
Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: National conservatism, Christian democracy, Elizian nationalism

Family: Dr Mourani’s wife, Rana al-Khouri, passed away in 1999; they had three children: Laëtitia (b. 1970, Diepoldsau), Nadine (b. 1972, Baabda), and Georges Amine (b. 1976, Turin). Laëtitia and Nadine, predisposed to the “invisibility” preceding their father’s political entry, lead rather private lives in Germany and Austria, respectively, whilst Georges Amine, having made Kentang his home, serves as his father’s closest aide.
Background: Léon Dimitri Mourani (b. 25 July 1947, Alexandria) is an Elizian academic, historian, writer, politician and former exile. His father, the Sinophile Alfred Maximilien Mourani, was ill-suited to his clan’s Egyptian dealings in precious woods; abandoning the business to his kinsmen, he vacated his domicile in the Bride of the Mediterranean and took his family―Majda (his wife), Yasmin (his daughter) and Léon Dimitri―to the Far East. With the rudimentary Mandarin of his textbooks which had to be left in Alexandria, Alfred Maximilien was soon object of the picturesque scorn of officials intrigued and baffled by his particular fascination with the Uyghurs or, perhaps, the Tibetans. By 1956, he had retreated, much like Chiang Kai-shek, to Taiwan, where he sought the succour of the Academia Sinica to no avail, for the qualifications (or, rather, lack thereof) of man bred by tutors of Greek and Latin were of no interest to the Academy. Before the year came to a close, Léon Dimitri’s father had once again uprooted the household. Deprived of idealism and romantic admiration, the man could see only economic opportunity in Elizia.

The state of the household improved almost immediately in Elizia. Commerce permitted their elevation to the upper echelons and, as such, Léon Dimitri was delivered to the best instructors and headmasters the nascent union could muster; instructed in everything from Malay and Greek grammar to mathematics, the child was wont to spend nights in his study. A young man arose on one of those nights, but he was not reading on that occasion; he was preparing for his first encounter with European soil, for a dream with C. S. Lewis had prompted him to opt to read Literae Humaniores at Oxford, whence he graduated in 1966. Anxious to place his life at the altar of blossoming republic, he served as an informal emissary to Western Europe, but soon became disillusioned with the invisibility of his pseudo-diplomatic service; like Tolstoy’s Prince Andrew, it was an instant of glory―love of the unknowing crowd―that he wanted. He took refuge at the Sorbonne, where he studied philosophy and took an interest in philology, but, brought to revulsion by the “exaltation of madmen”, left Paris in 1968 to complete his doctorate in Vienna.

It was in Austria that he met his future wife, Rana al-Khouri, daughter of a boorishly pecunious São Paulo-based Melkite banker and a Prague-born “White Russian” with exaggerated (but not wholly untrue) claims to nobility. In 1972, on his homeward journey to Elizia, he returned to his native Alexandria with his daughter, Laëtitia, and his heavily pregnant wife, who was to give birth in Baabda (Lebanon). The family of four arrived at the port of Kentang on 2 August 1972 to live in the enviable opulence provided by the Mourani patriarch, Alfred Maximilien. This wasn’t to last, though; the Elizian killings, despite not directly targeting the Europeans (the family were, for all intents and purposes, counted amongst these), could not be ignored. Léon Dimitri brought attention to the great massacre; whosoever held influence of any sort received a letter from the young doctor and soon enough he, along with the rest of the family, was deprived of his citizenship and allowed to leave with nothing but a Lebanese laissez-passer in lieu of a passport.

From his exile in Alexandria and Beirut, he wrote intensively; he plagued Europe’s libraries in his frequent trips, for these alone could provide him with the material of what was to be his Elizian Annals: A History of Elizia. Arabic poetry, Malay translations, English essays, German treatises and French novels were not beyond the scope of his pen. He maintained newspaper columns to bring attention to what he would euphemistically term the “Elizian misunderstanding”, but would not dream of disregarding his diverse interests; indeed, he lectured at the University of Rome (his third child, Georges Amine, was born in Italy) and, through his interest in philology, lectured on Germanic languages (and, especially, Gothic) at Salamanca. His exile, it must be said, was not at all sedentary or torpid, but now, in view of the great material changes in Elizian politics, he wishes to serve the nation which scorned and insulted him in the past.
Faith: Maronite (Christian)

Likes: Christian democracy, Elizian nationalism, English as a unifying element, monarchy, ordered liberty, classics, improved education, social conservatism
Dislikes: Islamism, Muslims [discretely and with the utmost politeness, of course], separatism, imposition of Malay, excessive authoritarianism, libertinage, disappearance of Latin and Greek

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • Dr Mourani, why do you propose the state adopt English for most uses? - My primary concern is the defence of the union and the protection of our common fatherland, sir; I believe it to be in Elizia’s best interest. It is a matter of national unity and identity, although it does harbour important economic considerations.
  • You are perceived as an anti-Muslim politician by many. What will you do to address these concerns? - It is no secret that I did not get along with many of them in exile, but my petty squabbles are of no importance at this moment. The country’s well-being in delicate times ought to monopolise our attention.
  • What provokes a respected intellectual to seek a political career? Why would you risk soiling your name? - I have never been a stranger to the machinations of the political realm; people are not exiled for avoiding politics. Any stain on my name would have to be caused by me and I have no intention of involving myself in the activities known to us all (I shan’t name them) which are responsible for tarnishing the names of otherwise respectable (in this country that often means imperceptible) compatriots of ours.
  • What’s your experience as a Christian in a state where you’re a clear minority and how do you think that affects your politics and views on the country? - My faith is, of course, of fundamental importance. I would think its minority status in our country has forced me to stress my adherence; were I Irish or Bulgarian, its place and protection would not be in doubt. My Christianity is elemental to my national conservatism and wish for preservation. As such, it has led me towards the path of national reconciliation and the construction of an Elizian identity for all our compatriots, not only the Malay Muslims amongst us.

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Social Liberalism

Family: Batari bin Bambang
Background: Wibawa bin Bambang was born in Liverpool, England in 1968 to Elizia expats who had worked with the British at the time when Elizia was still under British rule. His parents were aided in their transition by former colleagues at Foreign Office. Wibawa was educated at various public schools in England and eventually attended Cambridge where he studied mathematics and holds a doctorate in the subject.

In the course of his studies, Wibawa became aware of the aid that Alan Turing had provided the British intelligence services during WWII and the way that the government later treated him for being a homosexual. Wibawa regarded this as a grave misjustice and, while he found the thought of such sexual acts to be at best distasteful, he came to a belief that such matters were of little import in the grand scheme. The concepts of liberalism took root with him, especially as he noted that certain societies (notably the United Kingdom and United States) had become more powerful and more efficient at allocating resources as the inefficiencies caused by the petty bigotries which held over from ancient tribalistic instincts were slowly phased out.

  • 8.5% Aboriginal
  • 7% Vietnamese
  • 3% European

Background: Kenyalawak Island (Malay: Pulau Kenyalawak, known as "South Jinyu Island" by the Chinese and Vietnamese population (Chinese: 南金玉岛, Pinyin: Nánjīnyùdǎo)) is the main part of the State of Kenyalawak, the other being North Jinyu Island, which is immediately to the north. The State of Kenyalawak's capital city is Hutanegri and its largest city is Baragang.

Settled by Elizian aborigines, Indian culture spread to Kenyalawak, later to be supplanted by Muslim Malay culture. The Kenyalawak Sultanate, which was a main Elizian trading power, was subjugated by the Bruneian Empire and later the British Empire. The British imported many Chinese and Indian laborers to Kenyalawak, both of which combined would later outnumber Malays and aborigines several times over. The tension resulting from this came to a head during the Elizian killings, when many Chinese and Vietnamese merchants were killed off. Chinese rebels fought for the independence of Kenyalawak, later forming the NCDS. Today, Kenyalawak's economy is still recovering from recent fighting, but it has a lot of potential.

That's like saying "blockbuster wouldn't be losing ground to netflix if there wasn't any netflix".

  • 65% Chinese
  • 12% Indian

  • 7% European
  • 4.5% Malay
  • 2% Aboriginal
  • 2.5% other

Background: Originally an obscure fishing village on the northwestern coast of Kenyalawak, modern Baragang (Chinese: 吧拉刚, Pinyin: Balāgāng) was founded by British colonial official Isaac Sumner in 1825 from part of the Sultanate of Kenyalawak, later becoming the British colonial capital of Kenyalawak. It became one of Elizia's largest ports and a major trading hub for the region. Many Chinese and Indian laborers were relocated to Baragang, and more moved there from the countryside seeking more opportunity. After independence, the state capital of Kenyalawak was moved back to the old capital of Hutanegri by the ENC because the latter was still a majority Malay city. The fighting that occurred throughout much of Elizia, and Kenyalawak in particular, hit Baragang particularly hard after independence because of its large Chinese majority population. However, it is still one of Elizia's main ports and still attracts a large amount of international business for the region.

Dr Léon Dimitri Mourani, PhD - Federalist Party
Account Name: Filimons and Frodtthiuda
Occupation: Senator, historian, writer and university professor

Party Position(s):

From his exile in Alexandria and Beirut, he wrote intensely; he plagued Europe’s libraries in his frequent trips, for these alone could provide him with the material of what was to be his Elizian Annals: A History of Elizia.
