[Question] Random lock?

Postby UIJ » Mon Jun 06, 2016 7:07 pm

I know there's a debate/talk/thing going on about the chill threads, and if a final decision was made, wouldn't a mod say so? Otherwise, this thread hasn't hit 500 pages yet, and I don't see any reports or anything....

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=376429

I'd just like to know. Maybe it's just me?

And thank you for the quick response. Now to find something to do...

If memory serves, the last time we shut location threads down, we didn't archive them then. Unfortunately, given the reason we are putting them on a 3-month timeout, archiving threads that have an uncomfortably high chance of containing obscene material is really a non-starter. There's just too much material for us to review it all to make sure its clean before archiving.

Folks have got 7 days to save copies of anything important in there, and I imagine there are tools to facilitate saving entire threads off phpBB boards.

That's bullshit. Unlike those other idiotic "chill" threads, ours doesn't have anything obscene in them, and yet moderation assumes such because ours is under the same generalization as the other threads. I've put fucking hours into some of the posts on our thread, and yet it's still going to get auto-pruned because, oh, there might be something inappropriate in it. Glad to see all of my effort has been fucking wasted, and I'm also glad to see that moderation has decided to fuck us all over just because some dolts couldn't keep their dicks in their pants.

I thought I had reasons to hate this site's moderation before, but now it's just been reinforced.

Yeah. Only a single Chill Thread series has ever been bad, and now suddenly the entire community must be banned.

The Wallaby hasn't required moderator involvement for most of its nearly 2 year existence (Besides the TG incident, which wasn't the fault of the thread itself. Or if CC was doing something while me or my co-ops weren't looking). Besides, 18 pages is nowhere near 'too much material'. You know we aren't the same group of morons who RP only for the sake of wank material, I'm sure unlike your grand TG investigation this won't make you want to gouge out your eyeballs.

I get you're trying to be "fair", but this is smacking of laziness.

I'm sure ours wouldn't have anything that would be too borderline, but I understand. I also never knew that I could ask for something like that to be archived.

But a whole summer without a chill thread. Mh...wonder what I'll do now? I should do something for mankind.
Like sleep. I should sleep. I should consider this my "I'm finally going to bed at a decent time break".

Unfortunately Reppy, as touched on in this thread, that's a lot easier to say than do. There's no easy export function, and you can't script or scrape anything on forum.nationstates.net . They could try saving individual pages for offline viewing, but at that point they might as well just save specific pertinent posts. While there are plenty of tools designed to let you have an offline copy of phpbb threads, as I understand it, every one I've seen would not be allowed by nationstates to be used on our forums.

Wait, I'm a bit confused. The link in the OP is 400+ pages. What thread are you referring to?

... 26 pages instead of 18, I must've misread. Anyways, this one. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=376407

This thread is still subject to the same blanket ruling. Despite being fairly brief.

Anyhow, why shut down the Wallaby and the National Hangout threads? The Wallaby has never had any PG13+ content and they actually self moderate better than most threads. The National Hangout thread is also clean (Except for mild suggestive talk between me and Azervia which I have stopped) and we also self moderate well. Only the primary and more popular Location Thread (The one made by Forsworn Knights) broke a few rules, and even then only 2 users did!

Even the temporary ban is incredibly draconic and unreasonable!

got smacked by admin (if it even works in the first place?), and then comes back saying "a mod told me to!" :P

After a little confab on IRC with a couple mods, we've decided to copy over these three C/CL threads locked post-moratorium over to our evidence locker. Due to the nature of posts that led to the moratorium, we can't just archive them. As a compromise, I suggested copying them over to the evidence locker until they can be reviewed and then released back into the great white plains of Archives. Here are the threads:

Wallaby
National Hangout
Klub Kongo (archived)

NH is too large to copy, so it will have to be moved out of sight to the EL. I'll be doing that in the coming days.

Since I'm the dummy that came up with the solution, I'll primarily be doing the scanning. :p For Wallaby and Klub Kongo, that won't take long given the thread lengths. National Hangout may take a while so I appreciate your patience. I trained in TET. I am ready.

Well. NH is quite big, but I assure you, there's about 10+ pages of "So..." And *ahem* and other bumps.

10+ pages worth of naughty bumps. Also never though I'd ever make such a successful thread. Feels nice.

I didn't want to start yet another moderation thingy, and this is relevant, so I have a question. Due to the recent ruling, I'm quite cautious, and don't want to take any risks. But, can I start an RP region? I've heard of them before, using the posting thingy on the bottom to RP.

So would that breaking the new ruling, or would that be fine due to suppression, passwords and such?

I can't speak for 'can' in a legal sense, but I don't /think/ there are any rules against creating a region for rp. There are recruitment threads all over in NS for such things. I would imagine the same sort of rules apply however - naughtiness on the RMB is still on site, and still, last I checked, actionable. None of that changes. But given the sheer number of regions who rp that way, one would imagine there ought to be no problem with you creating another, nor linking to it in your sig, given it is entirely game related, and you would in no way be 'profiting' from said promotion of it.

(Ye gods, it is tiring trying to overcompensate on the side of caution, lest I be thought to be 'operating above my station' yet again and get banned for it. Whole lot of double-talk for no better reason than 'you're not a mod anymore don't you dare let us catch you using your knowledge to advise players on how not to break the rules'. >_< Higher standards indeed.)

You are coming up with quite possibly the most elaborate '/notamod' sign offs this forum has ever seen.

And smallest.

I'm afraid if I don't I'll get put in the naughty corner, and get sent to bed without any dessert. >_>
(I didn't want the sarcasm to take up too much space and time. Spam, you know. Maybe I ought to highlight it larger in my sig somehow? Not bright and red enough?)

Ay, this is on Lingria for not managing the threads at all after I retired, and on East/Mad for not controlling themselves. Dont pin this situation on my ass. The only LT I have had any administrative part in in the last several months was the failed Dorm reboot.

He could but they don't keep for very long. A week, ten days if you keep them in the fridge, which is never convenient.

I wasn't pinning it on you.
