Mmm, so I guess Bran just faded away at the dining-room table then. But I'll have Yuna show up to see the healers considering she's more or less a part of the group (She'd never been called on, so I don't know)

I thought of something: How powerful of a light should Romy's sword be able to generate? I did described it to Cer as be blinding, but is it on par on being an artificial daylight generator?

Bran, if characters aren't speaking, they're just sitting there and nobody has any reason to address them beyond ""We'll need all the forces we can muster," Klaus acknowledged Romulus' offer. "I'm Klaus, a fellow Resident. We've lost my cultist forces beyond a few Men. Our asset is Resident diversity however. We have a deep knowledge pool here. We have strong bodies, seasoned warriors, skilled pilots, and steadfast young men and women willing to face any challenge to protect their friends.""

Ched, did you put it in your app as an artificial daylight generator? :p

Now I'm picturing Rom wielding a tanning bed. "Tan, you bastards!" How cool is that? Combine it with some raptor tech for full effect!

Also, Cer left off the Burrows group. I can attempt to make a bridge to get everyone settled, or you can wait until tomorrow, or Min or Tilt might be able to set up the inn's pub? Your call. I'm not on much longer, though, so call quickly.

Scratch that. I'm going to bed shortly. Best to wait for Cer.

"I'm gonna bleach you, goddammit!" :P

Seriously though, with everything being covered in reflective stuff in the Imperium's military, and Romy being called a beacon of light, I'm still sure the sword is bright as hell. I mean I said it was bright and made rainbows in the app, but how bright is daylight anyway again? Maybe I should reword it to reflect that more, I don't know.

Suggestion for Rom: maybe don't allow its radiation to be powerful enough to seriously harm Fiends but make it literally able to tan people. Or give mild sunburnesque syptoms with sufficient exposure.

Swith - I'm aware Neste might not be safe to touch let alone use powers on. I'm counting on one or more of the following being true:
1. Neste can mitigate any potential harmful effects or can mitigate them enough. (Exhibit A: Septimus is fine.)
2. If 1 false, Neste is aware of this and will tell Nick.
3. If touching Neste is dangerous Nick will be alerted to that fact as outlined in his app and will probably pay attention.

Unfiltered daylight is pretty bright.

Rom needs to open up a tanning bed franchise in Bielefeld. I'm totally serious. We need one of those!

Anyway... it's pretty bright. It depends on what you want to use the light for, though. As a distraction, it works. If the brightness is to add potency (increased UV exposure), then that works.

When I think of "bright light", I think of an argon laser used in dentistry. The machine generates blue light which is then delivered along an encased fiber optic cable and then a stylus. The tip is exposed at the very end. The light cuts tissue. However, the type of laser determines what it can cut, and some things won't be affected at all (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jcjwsoJZkM). Anyway, dentists using an argon for routine procedures or surgery wear orange safety goggles. The orange blocks out the light's intensity and they can actually look straight at the very tip of the instrument without wincing.

Fvaar, I already gave Agy a heads up, since Nes is resting. He'll probably advise Nick to not make contact, if only because Sep and Nes have talked about that stuff before, and because Nes made no effort to communicate through their tether... meaning she's too frazzled to protect his mind from that touch. I think in any other circumstance, Nes would enjoy sitting down to chat with Nick, though. She'd be able to shield enough of herself to make it comfortable for him. :)

Got it, Swith. Thanks!

@Ched: The main reason I suggested just tanning/sunburning was for comedic value.

"Behold the extremely powerful eldritch ((wasn't it?)) weapon. IT CAN TAN YOU."

--

Sunlight has a lot of specific spectral lines at specific intensities. Galli sunlight might differ from light elsewhere but might be reproducible - if possible to record emissions spectra. (Note light at ground level at dawn may differ from light at noon.) Might be usable against Fiends - but it's hardly certain that sunlight is the cause of death. Could be something plants release at dawn, the literal fact that a new day is starting, position of the planet in space, extremely short lifespan the end of which happens to coincide with dawn, Fiends being teleported elsewhere at dawn...

Reason for me noting this here and not IC? I don't think my chars would think of it. If anyone wishes to steal any part of this for their chars I would honestly be flattered.

Think of all the money you can make if you just waved a magic sword at people though. :P

Remember too that the Magnum Langschwert Madeleine (the name of the sword) is prismatic in nature, and obviously hot enough that it burns, melts, boils most things at physical contact alone. So yeah I think it should definitely emit bright UV light at least. And now with the argon light you've mentioned, Swith. Now I'm thinking there could be different lights on the spectrum that could be emitted, to the point random things nearby could catch on fire for example, but I'm not even sure with that to be honest.

In The Leather Couches' name we pray, amen...

You know, perhaps that's literally the case somewhere in the Omniverse?

Regarding the first point - my thoughts exactly.

And Ched - I think it should probably emit roygbiv of course. Maybe it needs to emit types of radiation with wavelengths within an order of magnitude of each other in a continuous spectrum, default just barely infared-(as opposed to red) to near ultraviolet?

I'm going to post IC for Rmwtyliin. The length of time covered by the post is seconds, and basically all of the thought portion occurs concurrently with Torsi's post.

In other words: IC time for that group is advanced five, ten seconds not even considering fudging. It should not greatly affect Kelly.

My reasoning: I feel the posts will go faster if I reply now instead of in circa 8 hr. Anyway, expect my return in circa 9 hr.

Post out; if I missed anything or anything I wrote was incorrect, don't hesitate to inform me. I just finished catching up with my family an hour ago, and that combined with the exhausting trip back home for the weekend and the coma that dinner has left me in has greatly diminished my mental faculties.

Basically, I'm struck dumb right now. If anything's wrong, that's probably because I wasn't thinking hard enough. Please inform me. Thanks.

Intention: post for Rmwtyliin, using an already 3/4 written post.

Actually: end up posting substantial amount for Nick as well, along with sentence for Kwa'a.

I am off to bed. Goodnight.

BACKGROUND
Education or Training: High school education, self-training for 3 years.
Character Background/Biography:
Malal Kon was born in a forest in Maine, a couple miles away from Canada. His mother was a half-human minotaur and his father was a full minotaur. His parents often took him hunting in Maine or across the border. But when Malal was 9 months old, the US army killed most of his family and friends. However, when his life was in most peril, he learned how to transform into a human. He was rescued by the US army members. They asked him for his name, and he said Matthew Kon. They took him on a road trip across the Northeast US before returning to West Point. They put him in an orphanage in New York.
Malal, because of the stress, forgot how to shapeshift again and began to lose his memory of his parents. The only thing he remembered was crawling out of a flaming house.
Matthew was adopted very quickly by the Morton family, where he got his surname, and he was raised in New York. When he was 7, robbers tried to rob his house. He discovered his ability once more, and scared them away. This time however, he kept it, and loved to run around the alleys of New York, alone of course, in his minotaur form.
He had a normal life, until he was 17. His parents attended his high school graduation. He was 17 years and 7 months old. However, two months later he was looking for colleges when a fire burned down his parents' house exactly 17 years after his old parents were killed. When they were in the hospital, they managed to tell their son he was adopted and he was from West Point. That was all they knew. Matthew went to West Point a night, and he somehow managed to sneak in. He found the file named Minotaur and opened it. What he found was his background. He got out of there, and read all of it. His memories were coming back to him.
After attending his parents' funeral in New York, he went back to his birthplace in Maine to train. He trained for three years, until now. Now he is ready to see the world and find minotaurs once again.

@ I. Kaeria: You should know that the current location of the Building/characters/the RP is a little world (Gallimaufry) far removed from Earth - and it houses a significant minotaur population. Unless motivations are altered somewhat, your char will have no reason whatsoever to stay with the group.

My suggestions to solve this follow. PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT PL STAFF.

1. Modify your character's objectives - maybe even switch primary and secondary so that revenge is more important than finding others of his kind. Possibly add a yearning for adventure.

2. Obviously with staff permission, make him a Gallimaufry resident. Maybe he never fit in well with the other minotaurs because he could shapeshift and had this weird mutant power to Hulk out? Perhaps he always thought that Gatejumpers ((local term for interdimensional travellers)) were SO COOL, and he realized that 'apartment building' likely meant that rooms could be rented...Do note that the current setting is a dimension created by the landlord. Most characters from said setting seem to worship him, which could be amusing.

3. Alternatively, you could wait to introduce Malal/Matthew until chars return to Bielefeld, or otherwise leave Gallimaufry (they typically vacation in two other settings between Thanksgiving and New Year's.)
Come to the light side.  We have teamwork, waffles, popcorn, grape juice, and way too much ramen.

Link to RP examples: (this MUST be a DIRECT LINK to your IC post in an RP, NOT a link to the RP thread itself. If you don't have examples, make your biography good.) I do have examples, but look at my biography in this case.

IMPORTANT:
One paragraph that sums up your character. This paragraph is what we'll use on your player tab on the first page of the thread. This MUST be brief. Your tab will contain a link to your application so people will have full details
Character Name: Malal Kon/Matthew Morton
Brief Description: A young adult minotaur who's travelling the world, looking for someone of his own kind.

I like him. Quick comments:

Shapeshifting. Be careful with this one. Although it's nice to be able to "insta-heal", no amount of shape shifting can heal someone if they're facing magical items designed to tear apart others while they shapeshift. Likewise, things embedded should stay embedded, such as a bullet to the heart or a lance to the brain. Cuts and slices and broken bones etc would heal just fine.

Primary Objective. As Fvaar explained, there are minotaur in the setting. A herd has integrated itself into the Burrows. They are plain, ordinary minotaur that lack any shapeshifting ability, and their social structure is set. They engage in preferential relationships and establish hierarchy at a young age. If a newcomer is added to the current herd, you see the highly ranked minotaur test the new arrival until the new minotaur finds a spot in the hierarchy. So our Mr. Morton might find himself butting heads with the older bulls, and fending off feigned attacks from the adolescents. Or they may opt to refuse him completely because he's a shapeshifter. That's good news for Mr. Morton - his quest doesn't end the moment he arrives.

He's accepted in PL. I can work him into the setting any time. All characters start off the same way. I'll post his arrival once you're ready to play.

Swith, please add tab. Let's put him in Apartment 4G (Nex old place).

Malal Kon AKA Matthew Morton
A young adult minotaur who's travelling the world, looking for someone of his own kind...Full Details.

Note to all: PCs will not come from Galli. Not yet. It's a complex world and we're having it unfold one discovery at a time.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

Manager Quest
Participants: Giovenith, Marcus, Septimus, Neste, Nick, Torii, Drova. We'll get Manager Quest started shortly. Expect to read and write shorter posts since there will be more action than dialog during portions of it. It's a quasi-blitz.

Breakdown of human/species resources.
It might be helpful if people knew who to turn to when help is required.

Soldiers/Military/Fighters
Malal/Matt (unarmed combat)
Bran (firearms, helicopter pilot)
Rylli (firearms, pilot)
Aegis (firearms, melee, magic)
Monfrox (firearms)
Varona (sniper/firearms)
The Klingons (melee)
Chrys (melee)
Romy (firearms, melee)
Kelly (firearms)
Brit (firearms/first aid)
Minerva (piloting, tactics, firearms, melee, espionage)
Certain Guild members
Ocho (melee, scout)
Neste (scout, melee, unarmed combat, pilot)
Nila (melee, tooth-and-claw, pilot)
Thad (assassin/sniper/demolitions)
Hans (firearms, melee, unarmed combat)
Klaus (war god knows his shit)
Superbia (melee)
Thriller
Lucius (melee)
Max (firearms, unarmed combat)
Torii (combat arms, unarmed combat)
Katya (combat arms, unarmed combat)
Kwa'a (deadly with a frying pan)
Deuce (Chaos Space Marine)

You'll need to work as a team soon. Figure your hierarchy out. I'll find ways to crush Residents and villagers if our military minds are sloppy or have too much conflict between battle plans during combat moments. The military-minded NPCs (Minerva, Klaus, Hans, Thaddeus) are not going to issue orders. I might have Thaddeus suggest a recon so these characters have something to do during the Manager adventure.

My recommendation: if you are going to have a character scout, put one in belonging to a player skilled in RP wargaming and a character with the skill set. Neste is an ideal choice. Swith is very hard to catch off guard, so your character's chances of surviving are increased. I delight in slaughtering sloppy scouts, only I prefer to wait until the entire team has blundered into the kill zone.

    The difference?

John looked around the room and saw the cargo boxes. Perfect cover. He crawled towards them and listened.

    vs

Malice paused short of the doorway, ears rocked forward as she intently listened for anything foolish enough to give its position away. Her nostrils flared slightly to sample the air. How many were there? How many were crouched in the shadows? She would pick them off one-by-one, were she alone. But she knew better. The rest of her host trailed behind. Her roles was simply to determine where the nasty thade had gone to ground. An entrenched and desperate enemy... a deadly encounter, if she didn't remain frosty. And so she remained frozen on the verge of what was, unbeknownst to her, a trap; fingers splayed to detect vibration, eyes shifting between varied spectrum to spot heat and shadow, and lips drawn back to expose her venom glands. She began to scan...

Healers
MAGIC
Sandy
Insidious
Ogoti
Yuna
Giovenith
Anais
Malaise
Neste (psionics)
Nick (psionics)

CONVENTIONAL
Gretta (doctor)
Brit (first aid)
Thad (rusty bedside)
Rwm (herbal, first aid)
Arthur (shrink)

I've placed Sandy in charge of the group to free up my NPCs. Insidious - medical supply.

Scientists
Septimus (philothanatophy, interrogation)
Neste (biotech, virology)
Thaddeus (cybernetics, virology)
Adrastus and Marcus and the Building priests (cybernetics, communications, and other fields)
Primordial (researcher, magic and mundane)
Insidious (researcher, magic and mundane)
Neil (science!!!)
Gretta (science!!!)
Thriller (science)
Dr. Smith (science, if he's here)
Deuce (botanist).

I left Primordial and Insidious as somewhat unclassified since they deal with obscure branches of magic and tech. I'm not sure what some of the others specialize in. People won't come to them if they don't promote their skills IC.

Not grouped IC
Rmw (first aid, not in healer group yet), Kw'a (frying pans, not in fighter group yet), Kale (some combat skills, mostly plant seeds and magic), Hunter (resistance fighter), Drova, Rodney, Myra, Willow (Hearts and Minds)

Have I left any characters out?

Tsu and TNEL are taking a break from PL to work on other things.

I haven't forgotten of Dan and Hunter (I just haven't been able to easily put them in perspective as the others).

Dan can go to the healer group and maintain a more background role, same with Hunter as needed. We have lots of characters in each group so having them participating isn't a big concern for me (though ideally I'd like them to do something rather than twiddle thumbs). That said, I'll have the facilitate like the rest of my chars.
