What's your world like?

Postby Parhe » Mon Sep 07, 2015 6:47 pm

The world is one similar to Earth. The world was modeled after the planet, almost as a second Earth bar the inclusion of what is currently Parhe and Teosol, by a few powerful sovereign states. Among the most powerful of the states descending from Earth though perhaps not the most powerful. Our planet, one far away from the original Earth, was part social and science experiment and part "keeping up with the Joneses." The experimented lasted thousands of years, beginning with several million individuals transplanted from a relatively small city without any warning. Interference was very common, although the inhabitants of the world do not know of this experiment themselves. Many of the most accomplished, famous, and hated people of our history were those sent from above in order to facilitate changes. The world has essentially been set up to mimic much of the original Earth's history. The states of the old world are gone, for reasons we have not yet discovered, and have been for a centuries, allowing our world to develop on its own.
Hey, it is Parhe :D I am always open to telegrams.
I know it is a Work-In-Progress, but I would love it if y'all looked at my new factbook and gave me some feedback!

Welcome to the Giga setting.

Postby Gigaverse » Tue Sep 08, 2015 7:59 am

I've come to call it the Giga setting because it would sound less intimidating. :p

As I've been inspired by pop culture over time, I've come to start an entire setting consisting of many upon many layers of alternate universes that at first glance, the scale would be absurd. But it's also mostly inspired by Warhammer 40K (the setting), so when summed up, it's not that confusing.

To sum up:

The setting is a blend of Fantasy and Science Fiction genres that tries to blend both elements with each other in such a way that they're inseparable/indistinguishable. The "power of imagination" is a theme, so if something is imagined, it exists in some form. This include gods, God, magic and things that shouldn't work by real world logic. If you want a tl;dr version: Warhammer 40K remade as the setting for an Anime.

The "largest" realm throughout a rather literal "everywhere", dwelt by Allkind (which has replaced Mankind through a novel-of-a-backstory as thick as your house), is the Imperium Omnitatum Sacrarum - the formal name of the entity commonly known as either the "Holy Imperium", or alternatively, "Caelum Infinitum". To most of its inhabitants, it's a perfect place to live. But it's far from the fact. Life is acceptable and interesting, but not as perfect as they think. The oligarchical confederation is mostly benevolent; however, don't let it fool you into believing they're complacent, naive sheep who wouldn't resort to amoral choices. Sub-factions within the Holy Imperium include: the Imperial Knights - either members of military/optionally-religious orders or ever-wandering Knights Errant (which amount to mercenaries); the Interplanetary Police, who play military governors, the conventional armed forces and the police force/gendarmes of the massive Imperium; the Free Traders, who are crucial in the establishment of new frontiers for the Imperial Demesne - and also the least likely to win the Frontier Wars alone; the Ugurians, a separate race intentionally bred, engineered and segregated from the rest of Allkind to provide bad examples for everyone else to know how to behave; the Black Guard, responsible for said engineering as well as counterinsurgency; the Office of the Inquisition, the blend of an intelligence agency, the secret police force and an assassin creed; and finally, the Patriarchy of Big Brother, whose members see to it that religion does not stray into the path of Heresy. Given the size of their realm, this bureaucracy is necessary. Oh, and they are run by a Council of Thirteen, which are no ordinary existences. All-in-all, 40K's Imperium of Man, but with its shithole elements downplayed.

The mortal enemies of the Imperial Demesne are HERESY. They call themselves "Worshipers of the One True God". This One True God, apparently, tolerates rape fests, ritual sacrifices, cannibalism, genocide in his name, among other vices, which please him to the greatest extent. He's also rumored to be responsible for the previous Wars in Heaven, so it's a given that he's almost universally hated by everyone and everything that's not worshiping him. But that really doesn't prevent a lot of criminals from turning to him and offer their services. Of course, living in a realm of constant bloodshed, backstabbing cycles, disastrous epidemics and frequent sex-changes and application of aphrodisiacs to "better enjoy sex life" isn't something so bad... right?

And then, with the amounts of bad thoughts and imaginations constantly piling up to form entire universes of perceived bad things, "Bad Things" as a whole was forced by Imperial authorities to magically incarnate into the Ruinous Swarm, giant monstrosities trying to consume everything for the sake of... just that. They're the other main belligerent of the Frontier Wars other than HERESY and the Holy Imperium, and to fend them off, sometimes the Knights have to create entire empty Universes with void stars just to lure the Swarms onto those places and fight. There are always more professional Knights, however, who have effective methods to destroy - and sometimes, even capture and convert to Imperial service - a Ruinous Armada with surprising ease.

With such big areas, no matter how effective their control, the Imperial Demesne ought to have some semi-successful separatist attempts and communities that enjoy greater autonomy than many others. A case of the latter are the Arachneans, big grey occasionally-undead talking-spiders whose leader, Arachneus, is also their progenitor and God. Arachneus himself has sworn allegiance to the Phantom Crusade, however, and most Arachneans seem content to follow his example. On the other hand, there are the Rataloids - robotic humanoid bipedal mice adept at ranged combat. Their most major close-combatant, Commander Ratton Kombat, is leading an Enclave within the Rataloid Segment to not-so-peacefully "ask" for independence from the Imperial Demesne - never mind that the Imperium always offer the choice for them to be a part of the Imperial Demesne "in name only".

Among the many Universes, one in particular is stuck completely within the Imperial Demesne, but has no more than a mining operation in a single Galaxy. It's in this Universe that the ruins of an old civilization is found. The Draguns, a race of (supposedly) anti-magical dragons, were once the rulers and inhabitants of an empire that ruled large swathes of its home universe, and intended to reach outward to the rest of the Omniverse, and if possible, any other kinds of space out there. Many sub-societies within the Dragun kins were becoming increasingly unstable and immoral, though, and once time came, these were robbed of their common sense and decency and transformed into Dominates of Fallen Draguns. And the one who now leisurely possesses and manipulates the Draguns into fighting each other and spilling their civil war into the domains of the Imperial Demesne, is none other than the aforementioned Heretical "One True God". Gundorath, the homeworld of the Draguns, has now joined the twisted dimensions of unreality, where it has grown massive and houses the Fallen Draguns' games of decadence and corruption. Better yet! All Dragun souls are for the One True God to reap, and unlike the Imperial Allkind, they haven't found a convenient species-wide way around death yet! The Draguns were once feared and occasionally revered; now they are but a shadow of their former selves that still manages to remain somewhat powerful and self-important.

So, all in all, a pretty tame, uninteresting setting with no potential for further expansions. jk

It's a planet on the edge of the Milky Way.
A Dutch-settled planet full of pirates, aliens, and mercenaries. And swamps and seas, too.
New confirmation: Using "I sexually identify as a_" is likely to be considered trolling apparently.

Vast in size and as varied as the people's that populate it, Ryor is a world serene beauty and harsh reality. From rolling plains to cloud crested mountain, vast salt flats to dense jungles, sun scorched desert and wind blasted tundra, untouched splendor to man-made ruination, numerous parallels exist upon this planet. Though nearly brought to the brink of total ruin some 500 years ago, Ryor has since then drawn itself back from the ashes and once again become a thriving planet.

The Ninth planet among the celestial line of Hemera, an old Class A star in the latter years of its life. The planet boasts a breathable atmosphere containing roughly 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. The orbit and rotation of the planet are remarkably stable, with a 24 hour day and a 372 day year which requires a leap day only once every 25 years.

Map - LARGE

The planet, slightly larger than Earth, but boasting only a single massive continent. Its peoples, flora and fauna are just as varied as the lands they live in. As mentioned, it was brought close to total annihilation some 500 year ago during a massive 20 year world war, known colloquially as the "Collapse". Since that time however, with no small part to the work of all the fledgling nations and the "Path of Reclamation", a doctrine set forth by the Empress Ravenger V in 2E122, much of the lands have been returned to their natural splendor. There are still some signs of the world's near death, ruined cities retaken by the wilds and the scars of war still mark the lands, but it seems that those who have reclaimed the world are on the fast track to a brighter future. Its people's are enjoying a time of near world wide peace, though there are a few scattered exceptions, with Ravania playing the role of "Guardian", doing their best to try and keep the world's peace... though sometimes by means of force, which are frowned upon by the world stage.

This however will not deter us. We have seen the world die once by all our hands. We will not allow it to happen again.

Possibly, Armageddon itself.

There is a huge war between the Muslims, the Christians, the Jews, and the secular/atheist nations of the world. This extends from MT Tech all the way to FT Tech, with innumerable Porgroms, Crusades, Jihads, wars, and battles.

Essentially, an infinite Crusade.

Our modern 2015 world; though with the U.S.S, seceding from the Western U.S.A.,and Canada In early 2013.
With The Capitol in Seattle The Secular State stretches north from Alaska, south to California; Including British Columbia, The Yukon; Idaho, Nevada, and significant parts of Montana.
After two years of fighting at home, and abroad Canada and the US signed an armistice and entered into a cold war relationship. Canada simply exhausted its ability to fight, and the US was forced to end most of its foreign military actions in the face of not only civil war, but rioting due to internal racial and fundamentalist religious tensions, let alone defending against Jihadi terrorism.
The U.S.S. has developed close economical, military, and political ties with Japan by allowing them to annex Hawaii for their help in the war.
Mexico, China and several other asian countries comprise the bulk of their trade networks; though most often their are tensions due to ideological reasons.
Although geopolitics are in a state of flux; Internationally they currently have at least neutral (though sometimes tense) relations with most of the world.
Exceptions:
*The Middle east: They hate us, and the U.S.S. are none so fond either! Fortunately the US.S. have no troops invested there though they face the same risk of terrorist attack as anyone else.
*Israel: Still an a US ally they have joined our cold war.
*The Vatican: Dont laugh! While they have no military we cant reach them either; furthermore their influence has hardened many against us costing us potential allies, and trade.

We are an island in the middle of a seemingly endless ocean. We also assume that we exist in an entirely different universe, presumably one that isn't considered the "normal" universe.

There are some theories that we are, at least partially, being controlled by this "normal" universe, but most people write that off as insane babbling.

I mean, who would waste time messing with a universe they will, probably, never see? It just seems highly unlikely.

Glaciers melted, Earth flooded, everyone fled the planet or died. Most of the surviving population ended up on the Moon, where the remnants of the world's governments and international organizations ended up fusing with the local Lunar government to form the New Earth Republic.

The New Earth Republic rapidly evolved from a stop-gate measure to keep civil order into a powerful governing authority beyond even the surviving Earth governments, which now are mostly confined to the National Senate and have little state authority otherwise. The New Earth Republic now views itself as the sole legitimate authority of humanity, with all humans and human-derivatives being considered the responsibility of the Nerian State. It has also begun to re-settle Earth itself by building massive floating structures, though this is slow going and subject to massively higher demand than supply. More people want to move to Earth than there is space on the Earth Habitats.

Opposition to the New Earth Republic was strong early on, many people accepting it only as a necessary evil. While this perception has changed with the Republic itself, with much of the popular enjoying far better living standards than they had on Earth, there were two factions that split early on from the Republic. These were the Alliance of Freedom, later evolving into the Alliance of Free Cities, and the Megacorps. The former split due to opposition to the Republic's bureaucracy and centralization, while the latter split due to opposition to the Republic's economic interventionism and tolerance towards socialism. The Republic views the Freekorpers favorably, regards the Alliance as misguided children to be taught how to run a proper government, and wants to conquer Mars and liberate its population from the various Revolutionary States of Mars.

The Alliance of Free Cities is largely centered on Venus, existing in multiple independent city-states. The Alliance follows a very decentralized policy, acting as an alliance of free trade and mutual defense between autonomous city-states rather than as a federal government. The Alliance is rooted in anarchist theory, though it is split between social and individual anarchists. The Alliance is cautious of the Republic and Freekorpers and avoids interaction with Mars and overall pursues an isolationist and neutral foreign policy.

The Megacorps originally dominated Mars, however their power was eventually shattered during the Martian Revolutions. The Megacorps then effectively split in two, divided into the Freekorpers and the Revolutionary States. The Freekorpers are the more direct evolution of the Megacorps, inheriting their off-world assets and what Martian assets they still retained control over, while the Revolutionary States took generally more socialist pathways.

The Freekorpers have since evolved from the Megacorporate system to the Guild system, establishing strict but meritocratic hierarchies and adopting socially-oriented ethics. Most Guilds now provide many services for their citizen-employees and act as a hybrid between a corporation and a state. Most Freekorpers live in artificial space stations, either orbiting a planet or stationed at a Lagrange point. Lion Guild also controls Mercury, though Mercury is uninhabitable and there are few residential settlements. The Freekorpers are closely aligned with the Republic, despite having been firm enemies during the Megacorp period. They tend to be hostile to the Alliance and the Revolutionary States.

The Revolutionary States are likely the most authoritarian polities in existence, often ruled over by either a revolutionary socialist party or a military junta, depending on who won the post-Megacorp struggle for dominance in that specific State. Most of Mars is under the control of one or another of the Revolutionary States, though some areas are ruled by Freekorpers or the Republic. The Revolutionary States exist in a complex patchwork of alliances and rivalries, but most are hostile to all off-worlders.

basically earth, until the fall of the USSR: the eastern bloc nations united after a brief civil war into a new amalgated nation: the Free Territory. Centered and governed (as far as that term applies) in the ukraine, the Free Territory is seen as barbarous and dangerous by most western nations, which in turn have become more conservative and rightist. Russia on the other havd tore itself to pieces, the european part joining us and the rest living in anarchic squalor, ruled by gangs and warlords.

My NS region is actually a planet. It has a lovely blue sky like Earth (it is lighter but not too much that it's noticeable until sunset, which is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING) Amazing blue oceans that hold vast amounts of life (we have fish too). The most beautiful grasslands, deserts, mountains and snowy regions.
Gurori is currently being refurbished, please excuse any inconsistencies in the meantime.
