You would still be using the L1A1, the L85 didn't come into use until 1985. It is 1982.

Why let the Soviets take even more land?

Well, it's Finland... We cannot protect every inch of ground, so we could follow the strategy of Frederick II. Let the Russians take more useless Finnish land, overstreching their supply lines, before we pounce. For the RP, it's probably better if we stay and fight, though. But I like these alternate scenarios.
