Civil Airline - Wo'n Kahshahkh

Postby Wonderchicken » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:28 am

Formed at the request of the Kah Nexhur as an extension of the Fleegicskah Fa arm of the Wochik military in 1930, Wo'n Kahshahkh essentially means 'Wochik Sky.' The first aircraft in use by the fledgling service was an aging 1925 Fokker F9 Avia, purchased by the Wochik monarchy at a cost of roughly Ͼ35,000.

Runahcs Festival

Postby Wonderchicken » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:28 am

A sort of independence celebration to commemorate the defeat of the evil tyrant known as Katothwa Re. The exact dates of the battle and subsequent formation of Wo'n Darshekeen have been lost to antiquity, but tradition holds that Runahcs is observed in April through the week of the full moon.

Wochik Provinces

Postby Wonderchicken » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:29 am

There are ten dehzhmahtum1 and one city-state in the Kahpokahnahcs ga Wo'n Darshekeen2:
  1. Jeecseek Khahdehn3 is located north of the western end of the main Wochik island, Jeecseek Wochar4. The Dezhmah Seat is Aihah Tuvahn5.
  2. Dehzhmah Cseeay occupies the western end of Jeecseek Wochar, just south of Jeecseek Khahdehn. The Dehzhmah Seat, Mo'Ayah, is named for a historically important Kodar6.
  3. Dehzhmah Raytum borders Dehzhmah Cseeay to the east. Chaybuh Raytum7 is the Dehzhmah Seat.
  4. To the south of Dehzhmah Raytum lies Dehzhmah Khahfah and the great Mehg Desert. Fah Du, the Dezhmah Seat, is also the unofficial seat of gambling in Wo'n Darshekeen.
  5. East of Dehzhmah Khahfah is Dehzhmah Pardek-Nahkh. Originally two dehzhmahtum, Pardek and Nahkh merged as part of an ill-fated attempt to seize the Kahponar8 and ultimate control of Wo'n Darshekeen. The two cities which once served as seats to these two dehzhmahtum, Pardek and Aihah Nahkh, now share equal responsibility for Pardek-Nahkh.
  6. Roughly one third of Pardek-Nahkh's length from the eastern end of Jeecseek Wochar is Dehzhmah Dunahkh, which essentially occupies a notch in the vast reaches of Dehzhmah Pardek-Nahkh. The Dehzhmah Seat is Aihah Dun. Pardek-Nahkh and Dunahkh have a somewhat axiomatic relationship: at one time, several hundred years ago, the people of Pardek-Nahkh actually tried to entice the Kodar of Dehzhmah Dunahkh to leave Aihah Dun and rule Pardek-Nahkh. This Kodar, however, was fiercely loyal to his home dehzhmah. Although Pardek-Nahkh held considerably greater prestige than Dunahkh, the Kodar chose to stay with his people.
  7. To the southeast of Jeecseek Wochar is Jeecseek Khahsheenah, where the majority of Wo'n Darshekeen's Thrinian Catholics9 reside near the Dehzhmah Seat, Garnahcskhet.
  8. Jeecseek Tikizahn10, which lies a few miles directly east of Jeecseek Wochar, falls within the jurisdiction of Dehzhmah Wahnahkar. Wahnahkar occupies the northern half of the east end of Jeecseek Wochar, and is bordered on the south by Pardek-Nahkh. Its Seat is Aihah Wochar.
  9. There are two islands northeast of Jeecseek Wochar, Jeecseek Shahn and Jeecseek Sushahn, which form Dehzhmah Shahn. Aihah Shahn, the Seat, is on Jeecseek Shahn.
  10. Occupying the remainder of Jeecseek Wochar, bordered on the west by Dehzhmah Raytum and on the east by Dehzhmah Wahnahkar, and stretching from the Kehtahkh Mountains on the south to the northernmost point on the big island, is Dehzhmah Ahdaino. Its Seat, Aihah Vush11, is also the diplomatic center of Wo'n Darshekeen.
  11. The city-state of Hacs-Tolahkh12 is the nation's capital, and is located in the south western portion of Dehzhmah Ahdaino.

You can view a map here.

1 - Provinces or states. The singular is dehzhmah.
2 - Kingdom of the Wochik Nation of Darshek. Tuvahn Darshek is the Wochik equivalent of George Washington, or perhaps King Arthur.
3 - Khahdehn Island.
4 - Cougar Island. Wochar is Katothwa Re for a Mountain Lion.
5 - Tuvahn City (Yes, another reference to Darshek).
6 - The Kodartum are the nobility of Wo'n Darshekeen. Each Dehzhmah is ruled by a Kodar, who is then subject to the Kah-Nexhur in Hacs-Tolahkh.
7 - Angels of Life. Chaybuh is life, and ray (also spelled "re") is Katothwa Re for angel.
8 - Throne.
9 - See this thread.
10 - Scorpion Island.
11 - Ocean City.
12 - Literally, "Lighted Hill." Visitors sometimes laugh, given that the city is located in a valley, rather than atop a hill.

How We Like Our Food

Postby Wonderchicken » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:29 am

There is an herb originating in Zhun Hahnahk (Hahnahk Valley, east of the Moree mountain range in the north central part of the main island) that is a popular garnish on beverages of all kinds in Wo'n Darshekeen. An increasing number of those visiting our shores and wanting the "full Wochik experience" have begun to try their spirits "shtee hahnahkaht" (with hahnahk herb), but the bitterness of hahnahkaht is an acquired taste. It's helpful to know that you will not cause offense by declining to ingest hahnahkaht.

A National Sandwich
Hahnahkaht is also found in the signature sandwich in Wochik culture. The khotwochar consists of macaroni noodles, melted sharp cheddar cheese, and Ivoah1 halibut on toasted hahnahkaht2 bread. It is served with or without honey. The Ivoah Sea (Vush Ivoah) surrounds our fair Wo'n Darshekeen. Although Ivoah halibut are found in the Ivoah, Laruvi, and Keddik Seas, they have been found as far away as the western shores of Australien. See map below:

The War Kitten post:
OMGeverynameistaken wrote:Have you ever been in a battle where trained war kittens were unleashed on the field? Have you heard the screams of the dying as their faces were chewed off by adorable, yet deadly, swarms of kittens? No. No. You have no idea of the terror which a trained kitten squad can inflict, the horror and madness as the wall of fluffy death closes on you. I have been, I have seen. The art of the Kittenmeister is a truly terrible thing to behold.

Some day, some day, you will see. You will behold the field of battle, the corpses stripped to the bone, and the soft sound of a thousand napping kittens, waiting, preparing for Armageddon.

Ledge=legend. British slang. I got to legend from Epic which I got from Wonder (via similar words)

Whatever Pardek-Nakh says, it's no small thing to be the Kodar of Dunakh.
Wonderchicken wrote:He uses what he possesses to do what he must.

Whatever Pardek-Nakh says, it's no small thing to be the Kodar of Dunakh.
This refers to story of a Kodar who was "recruited" by a neighboring dezhma. Although the Kodar-fa of Pardek-Nakh was more prestigious than that of Dunakh, the Kodar chose his people over his own ambition. His actual response to Pardek-Nakh's offer was "I'm the Kodar of dezhma Dunakh. No thanks, Pardek-Nakh. Thanks a lot."

Telling Time

Postby Wonderchicken » Fri May 06, 2011 9:04 am

Obviously, since we use our own set of alphanumeric characters, there's something unique there (you can see them in the OP of the Language of Wonderchicken thread). We also favor the 24-hour clock, and we don't put any marks or spaces between the hours and minutes. We do put a º mark, which is mostly used in our text to alter the pronunciation of a consonant which precedes it, in front of the numerals to denote their status as a time. Eight a.m. would be written as º0800 (except using the Katothwa Re characters, of course). Five thirty p.m. would be º1730 (in KR characters).

Language Education

Postby Wonderchicken » Wed Oct 03, 2012 2:50 am

Along with English, Spanish, and Japanese, German is a core language in secondary Wochik schools. A school may offer instruction in additional languages, but all secondary institutions are expected to offer these four languages for study. Many schools, for example, offer French or Wochik Sign Language. Among the four core languages, nearly 50% of Wochik teens study English, and roughly 39% study German. It is not uncommon for a Wochik to study multiple languages, and students who have studied either German or English typically find success with the other of the two. The number of English learners would be higher, except that it was the English who first mispronounced--and mis-characterized--our nation by referring to our beloved Wo'n Darshekeen as "Wonderchicken." The fact that there are as many Wochiktum studying English as there are is only a result of its usefulness in the world at large. In contrast, the most common answer students gave as to why they chose to study German was "Ahno ovah jilcstek" (I like it; literally meaning "It my happy").

Vushicskah Fa (1940)

Postby Wonderchicken » Sat Dec 08, 2012 2:07 am

Lufeer class aircraft carrier.
Designed 1934. Similar in many respects to Germany's Graf Zeppelin. Five ships built.

WDN 58 Lufeer ("Troublesome" - 1935) - Vv Vahnik Kehtahl
WDN 59 Gehvahl ("Worthy" - 1935) - Vv
WDN 60 Dehn ("Righteous" - 1936) - Vv
WDN 61 Fuyahcs ("Pure" - 1936) - Vv
WDN 62 Lavoshay ("Fierce" - 1937)* - Vv

It is worth noting that pilots serving aboard aircraft carriers generally take their orders from the higher-ranking Vushicskah Fa officers aboard their ship, but remain a part of the Fleegicskah Fa.

After an catastrophic accident aboard Lufeer in June, 1935, the class specs were adjusted. Fuyahcs and Lavoshay were altered while under construction and put to sea with an angled recovery section of their flight decks. Gehvahl and Dehn were completed using original specifications.

Fleegicskah Fa (1940)

Postby Wonderchicken » Sat Dec 08, 2012 2:08 am

By 1935, the Fleegicskah Fa had designated aircraft intended for air superiority as "hunter" (KhotehMunolah) and begun using the M label for fighter-type designs.
