With WBC in full flight already over, while WC's not far from its end and WB still weeks away, It's about time for top-flight international ice hockey to return to NS Sports! Woooooooooooooooo!

As the President of WCoH Federation and opener, I'll set the host bid deadline of 20:30 PM North American Eastern Time on January 9th. Ideally we'll have the World Cup of Hockey started by mid-January, so that the schedule conflict with World Bowl can be minimised as much as possible.
To be considered valid, host bids must contain (at a minimum) details relating to scorination and the format being used. It is not recommended for you to make a WCoH bid unless you have at least some experience in hosting.

Puppet signups are allowed and must be declared as such, with a limit of 2 signups per user.

Gregoryisgodistan Bid for World Cup of Hockey XXVI

IC Information
Gregoryisgodistan is a nation located in Esportiva and ruled by Lord Almighty Gregory, who is worshiped as a deity within that nation. Gregoryisgodistan's hockey team, the Ice Slaves, have advanced to the final in the last two World Cups of Hockey, winning World Cup of Hockey XXIV, but losing last time. They will be out for revenge.

Since Gregoryisgodistan has a number of unusual laws, which will be discussed more in the IC thread, all participants and fans at the Baptism of Iron will be issued special papers certifying that they are there for that purpose. As long as they have those papers on them at all times, they will not be subject to the more extreme laws of the nation, such as the death penalty for saying "coconut" or farting. However, if they do not have said papers, they will be subject to all the laws. In any case, they will still be subject to the laws against murder, assault etc. which are punishable by death. This allows participants a chance to avoid having to RP being subject to the extreme laws if they don't want to, while still having a chance to RP it if they wish.

Additionally, as I did at the last Baptism of Iron, and as Quebec did before me in both the BOI and WCoH, certain games will have notes next to them in the results which will provide RP opportunities if you wish. Examples from last tournament include the ref having a fatal heart attack after being presented with a speeding ticket for a large amount of money that really wasn't so large due to hyperinflation and streakers disturbing the pregame ceremonies. You can ignore these if you wish, or use them for ideas. It's up to you.

Host Experience

Gregoryisgodistan has hosted International Baseball Slam IV and Handball World Cup 12 as well as Baptism of Iron XVI. He is currently about to host Baptism of Iron XVII as well. He has also hosted a conference of NSCAA Basketball last tournament.

Tiebreakers

2. Head-to-Head Points
3. Head-to-Head Goal Difference
4. One-game playoff at a neutral venue if necessary to determine advancement

Goals for is omitted to avoid giving preference to certain style modifiers.

Format

The ideal format would involve a multiple of 8 (48, 56, 64, etc.) and there would be 8 groups of however many teams. The group stage will be double round robin in the participating countries. The top two in each group will advance to the knockout stage in Gregoryisgodistan. The knockout stage will not be seeded and instead will be like in the (RL) World Cup: A1 vs. B2, C1 vs. D2, etc. Like in the RL World Cup, but unlike in the NS World Cup, teams from the same group cannot meet until the finals (or third-place match.) To make matters easier, Gregoryisgodistan will automatically be drawn into Group A as host.

All knockout series will be best of three, except the final, which will be best of five, and the third place playoff, which will be a single match in order to minimize rank penalties to the fourth place team, who otherwise could finish with a lower rank than a team eliminated earlier.

Cutoff will be between 8 and 10 PM EST (1 and 3 AM UTC the following morning.) San Jose Guayabal will scorinate the host's group and any knockout stage matches they are in during the same window, though not necessarily at the exact same time within that window. As a result, Gregoryisgodistan and San Jose Guayabal will be separated during the draw and will not be drawn into the same group. Should San Jose Guayabal initially be drawn into Group A, they will be placed into Group B instead and the next team drawn from their pot will go into Group A with Gregoryisgodistan. The IC justification for this is the antagonistic relationship between the two countries, although similar treatment will not be given to Gregoryisgodistan's other enemies. (These nations are welcome to make an IC request for this in an RP before the draw, or even demand a redraw if they are drawn with Gregoryisgodistan, but it will be denied.)

In the event Gregoryisgodistan and San Jose Guayabal face each other during the knockout stage, another third-party scorinator will be sought at that time. No effort will be made to separate those two nations after the group stage.

A live draw will likely be held on IRC at a yet to be determined time and channel. More information on this will be announced after the host vote should Gregoryisgodistan win.

Scorination

The latest version of xkoronate will be used, with style modifiers from -5 to +5. RP grades will range from 0 to 3 per day based on quality, though to receive the maximum, an RP would have to be truly exceptional. In all likelihood, there will be only one or two perfect matchday scores awarded the whole tournament, if that. All bonus will be cumulative. Rosters will be graded as if they were a matchday, though because of how important they are in enabling other users to RP, they will be graded more generously than other RPs. In other words, a basic, barebones roster will earn a higher bonus than a basic, barebones RP.

Additionally, Gregoryisgodistan will separately grade the RPs and rosters of all teams in his group during the group stage (except himself) as well as his knockout opponents' RPs, though these scores will only be used in the event those teams advance to the next round (or the third place match, in the case of a hypothetical semifinal opponent.) This allows for more consistency in grading and also means San Jose Guayabal does not have to reveal to Gregoryisgodistan what grades he gave his opponents and groupmates.

Very nice looking bid Greg. Just a couple of questions.

1) Are you confident you can handle any overlap between this and the Baptism of Iron?
2) Why have you chosen the groups to be double round robin when they have the potential to be so large? For example, the record WCoH had 72 signups. Under your format, this would be eight groups of nine, with double round robin making it 16 matches for each team over 18 match days. That's way too long IMO.
