Since there are no bids for the Baptism of Iron, I am putting in a bid again, which isn't much different than the last one I put in. If a competent bid is put in besides this one, I will consider withdrawing it.

Gregoryisgodistan Bids to Host the Baptism of Iron

Gregoryisgodistan is bidding to host the Baptism of Iron.

Format:

The preferable scenario is for there to be four groups of teams. If there are 16 signups, there will be 4 groups of 4. If there are 20 signups, there will be 4 groups of 5. If there are 24 signups, there will be 4 groups of 6. If there are 28 signups, there will be 4 groups of 7. In the unlikely event we get to 32 signups, there will be 8 groups of 4. If we get over 32, a specific setup will be announced later, but I doubt this will happen.

If there are groups of six or less, they will be double round robin. If there are groups of seven, it will be single round-robin. Regardless, all games will be played in Gregoryisgodistan. Each group will be played at a different venue IC-ly, with details to be announced later. Most venues will be stadiums mainly used for soccer.

The top 2 in each group will advance to the quarterfinals, and be matched up like at the World Cup only half the size. (i.e. A1 vs. B2, etc.) The winners advance to the semifinals. There will be a third place game.

In the event that entries need to be cut to reach a workable number, puppets will be cut first, starting with the last to sign up unless requested otherwise.

Scorination:

All matches will be scorinated using xkoranate, SQIS formula with IFAF overtime and style modifiers. Cutoff times will be announced as we get closer.

Posting a roster will be worth as much as one day's RP. Rosters and RPs will be graded on a sliding scale, with better ones worth more. Extremely poor RP's may receive negative bonus, but in order for this to happen, it must be extremely poor. Simply being a one-line RP is not grounds for negative RP bonus being issued. Negative RP Bonus will also be issued for RPs which violate other users' RP permissions. All RP Bonus will be cumulative. As nations have no rank heading in, it really doesn't matter how much each day's max RP bonus is, so I'm not going to disclose it. The tiebreakers will be:

Point Differential
Points For
H2H W/L
H2H Point Differential
H2H Points For
Record against best team in group excluding teams involved in tiebreak (W-L, then PD, then PF) *
Record against second best team in group excluding teams involved in tiebreak (W-L, then PD, then PF) *
.... *
Record against worst team in group excluding teams involved in tiebreak (W-L, then PD, then PF) *
Random Draw

* - If two or more teams in the group (besides the teams who we are breaking the tie for) have the same record, they will be treated as a "mini-group" for the purposes of calculating this tiebreak and record against both/all of them will be used together. Example:

Team A 6-2
Team B 4-4
Team C 4-4
Team D 3-5
Team E 3-5

Suppose Teams B and C are level on all tiebreaks through record against Team A. Then you would take their combined record against Team D and E for the next tiebreak.

Host experience

Gregoryisgodistan has hosted International Baseball Slam IV and Handball World Cup 12 as well as the most recent Baptism of Iron. He has also hosted a conference of NSCAA Basketball last tournament. Additionally, the "Grid Slaves" of Gregoryisgodistan are a former BoI champion themselves.

More info

Because this is a tournament for newcomers, some helpful feedback will be offered. First of all, I would post significant background information about Gregoryisgodistan and the venues before the tournament starts, to offer a basis for RP. But the most important innovation will happen after the tournament concludes. I will send a TG to every new nation (i.e. not puppets or returning users) that posted at least 1 RP during the tournament offering some constructive feedback on what I think they did well and offering some advice as to what they could work on to become a better RPer. The purpose of the BoI is not just to get ranking points. It's to help users prepare for the World Bowl and the rest of the NSSports World. If there are any experienced nations who happen to be signing up for their first World Bowl but have significant experience elsewhere on NSSports that they don't think this would be helpful, they can TG me at any point before the end of the tournament to opt out.

Since Gregoryisgodistan has a number of unusual laws, which will be discussed more in the IC thread, all participants and fans at the Baptism of Iron will be issued special papers certifying that they are there for that purpose. As long as they have those papers on them at all times, they will not be subject to the more extreme laws of the nation, such as the death penalty for saying "coconut" or farting. However, if they do not have said papers, they will be subject to all the laws. In any case, they will still be subject to the laws against murder, assault etc. which are punishable by death. This allows participants a chance to avoid having to RP being subject to the extreme laws if they don't want to, while still having a chance to RP it if they wish.

Additionally, as I did at the last Baptism of Iron, and as Quebec did before me, certain games will have notes next to them in the results which will provide RP opportunities if you wish. Examples from last tournament include the ref having a fatal heart attack after being presented with a speeding ticket for a large amount of money that really wasn't so large due to hyperinflation and streakers disturbing the pregame ceremonies. You can ignore these if you wish, or use them for ideas. It's up to you.

Any questions? Just ask.

Signups updated through The Qocaekian Isles. Note that we've reached the BoI threshold of 16 new users (excluding returning users and puppets), meaning that the tournament will be held so long as a host bid is approved.

And I'll also mention now that I do intend to post a bid for the World Bowl, which should be up sometime in the next few days.

OFFICIAL HOST BID

I. Introduction

The Equestrian States Gridiron Association would be honored if members of the World Bowl Assembly would vote for this bid to host the upcoming edition of the World Bowl.

Although the Equestrian States boasts one of the World Bowl's most reliably-competitive and easily-recognized teams in the Fire Ponies and a budding gridiron infrastructure spurred on by the sustained successes of the national team, the North Pony Lands country has yet to host the multiverse's top gridiron tournament.

II. Format

Brace yourself, because this gonna be a little unconventional.

While we've seen a number of World Bowl bids before that have employed a second group stage, they've all involved eliminating a portion of the field following the first group stage. That will not be the case with this bid. Although the traditional format of a group stage in an NS Sports tournament will be adhered to - in that the initial group draw will use pots based on the latest tournament rankings and be double round robin with games being played home and away between the groups' members - that's as far as we get before things get a bit weird.

The draw for the first group stage will see teams placed into groups of 4, within which participants will play their groupmates in the typical home-away double round robin. Immediately following the conclusion of the first group stage, teams will be drawn into another group of 4, with the pots for this second group draw determined by teams' finishes in the first stage (ex. A team finishing 3rd place in their first group would be in Pot 3 for the second stage draw). Teams will not be drawn into the same second stage groups as their first stage opponents. As in the first stage, participants will face their groupmates home-away over 6 MDs.

After the final games in the second stage are played, in order to determine who will advance to the Round of 16, the results of each team over both group stages will be combined and an overall table will be calculated, similar to the Casaran format's method of determining advancement. As with the Casaran format, no team will be eliminated if they are tied with the occupant of the last qualifying position on record, in which case seeded tiebreaker playoffs will be held at neutral sites to determine who will reach the knockout rounds. Note that playoff seeding will be determined by tournament performance, not by ranking.

Following the playoffs (should any be necessary), the knockout stage will proceed in the typical fashion, with teams being seeded based on performance during the group stages. Teams will not be re-seeded during the knockout rounds.

The following tiebreakers will be used during the tournament: Points (Win-Loss Record), H2H Points, H2H "Goal" Difference, Overall "Goal" Difference, and a Cointoss (the result of which will be determined by a scorinated playoff at a neutral site, with RP bonus taken into account).

III. Scorination & RP Bonus

This bid will use the latest version of xkoranate (0.3.3) with the SQIS formula and IFAF overtime rules with NSFS3 (multiplicative) style mods. RP bonus will be cumulative non-degrading, and will be calculated so that a mid-ranked team at the start of the tournament that has accumulated a sizable RP bonus would be even with a minimal-RPing high-ranked team by the start of the knockout rounds. As usual, RPs will be graded to reward quality over quantity.

IV. Experience

Equestrian States can safely be considered one of the NS Sports community's veteran hosts, most notably co-hosting the 67th World Cup alongside Cassadaigua and the ongoing 70th World Cup with the assistance of San José Guayabal, Mizuyuki, and Felix. Other major tournaments the user has hosted to completion include the 57th Cup of Harmony (which was also co-hosted with Cassadaigua), 25th and 29th World Baseball Classics, 21st World Cup of Hockey, and the 29th and 32nd Di Bradini Cups. Lesser-known tournaments hosted by the Equestrian States include Market Cup VI, Runner Cup 3, Quidditch World Cup 5, and all four editions of the Equestria Cup. Finally, the user is currently serving his first term as the President of the World Bowl Assembly after previously serving as its Vice-President, and has been responsible for the maintenance of the tournament's rankings since April 2013.

Feel free to ask any questions here or via TG!

Eritai would like to sign up.

A note on puppet status: This nation is a puppet of an established NS user who would like to keep his identity hidden for now. If the World Bowl goes well, I will reveal this nation's puppetmaster. Rest assured that I have never entered the World Bowl with any nation at all, and will not be entering this one with any nation but Eritai.

If hosts are worried about puppet abuse, please TG me, but do not tell anyone else but co-hosts about the puppet master.

World Bowl XXV - Host Vote Results

The votes for the host of the next World Bowl are as follows:

Equestrian States - 5
Re-open bidding - 1

Therefore, Equestrian States is duly elected as the host of the 25th World Bowl.

I know its a few hours early, but nobody's voted in the last 4 days and it doesn't look like anybody else will be voting or that the outcome will be changing.

Yep. Signups updated through Nukehavistan.

Thanks to all who voted for my bid. As signups are currently at 54 nations, I'll keep them open until we reach 56 (the next number divisible by 4), then switch over to a waitlist. Nations on the waitlist may be transferred to the accepted list should the total number pass 60, or if a nation currently signed-up CTEs.

In my function as World Bowl Vice President, I should point out that, upon doing a BoI eligibility check, both Schottia and Britonisea are BoI-eligible, since Schottia has never entered a previous World Bowl and Britonisea withdrew from the previous World Bowl and BoI in favor of North Britonisea. Therefore, there would be 30 BoI eligibles, but...

England-Ireland has CTEd and appears to have been DEATed, reducing the number of signed up nations to 55 and the number of BoI eligible nations to 29.
