Space Night has depots in the following locations:
- Lake Hai'lu'kai
- Rai'lal Harbour
- South Sands Harbour
- Kai'ilana River port
- West Haven Harbour
What makes us different?
Trucking companies the world over usually have their CEO sat in an office, simply issuing orders to their subordinates which in turn deal with transport managers who hardly ever see the road. Space Night however does things a little differently as the company owner and CEO of the board, Jason Hall still regularly works on the road and insists that all the departmental heads of the company have also been through a full commercial driver training program so that they are in touch with what it is actually like to drive a large commercial vehicle as well as all the rules and regulations pertaining to operating and driving such a vehicle. The goal being to make them more in tune with the people whos job it is to deliver product to our customers for theirs, This simple mantra is all down to making the company more accountable to its employees and efficient with regards to costs in order to make our Financial director happy, which is to ultimately help drive our operating costs down to ensure we remain competitive in the global marketplace.CORE VALUES
Safety and Security of loads in Transit
S.L.I.T is key to every cargo movement, and a god who can not be ignored,
from the basic securing of cargo using the traditional strap to protect it from
damage to 24 hour satellite tracking and defencive driving, Space Night has a
strong emphasis on safety, so each and every driver goes through a week long
driver training course before taking to the road with Space Night, no matter
how experienced they are. Drivers also go on annual safety refresher courses.
The Customer is King
Exactly what it says, Ever since the founding of the company, Space Night has always believed that
the customer is the highest deity around second only to the laws of physics
Communication is key with Customers
From the smallest customer who calls occasionally for a delivery to the largest customer who has a
long standing regular account with trucks dedicated to their contract, communication is seen as
vital in maintaining a positive relation with our customers. Drivers as such will always give
customers and delivery addresses a call half an hour before arriving.
We value our staff
Maintaining a positive and productive employee - employer relationship is seen as a basic
mantra of our corporate operation, for there are times when the management may not be
right, as such any suggestion by our employees is looked into to see if it is a viable plan to
implement within our company. Because our drivers spend days away from home living in
a space smaller than a typical greenhouse, we want to keep our drivers so when they talk,
we listen, this means that Space Night has been able to maintain our drivers rather than
keep hiring new ones. This is true for agency sourced staff as well as full time staff.
Drive to be the best
Yes thats right, Drive to be the best. A simple mantra that brings together several of
our key values, safety with additional yearly training and evaluating of our staff, for every
year we hold a competition to see who is the best driver for SPACE NIGHT transportation,
a competition that includes precision driving, as well as driving to be economical, this
competition is open to all drivers regardless of length of service.
The Space Night Driver Training scheme has been assessed and certified by the Mercantile federal Government as been an approved driver training and enhancement scheme, together with the emphasis on defencive driving, the Space Night Driver training scheme goes through all aspects of commercial vehicle driving. From 7.5t to 44t, the Auroran legal maximum for a single trailer combination, the Space Night driver training scheme has been proven by the Federal Highway Safety Enforcement Agency to reduce driver - fault accidents by 30%, the 1 week course for drivers who already hold the relevant licence, and the 4 week learner driver scheme brings together a combination of classroom, closed track training and open road training to produce safe and efficient drivers.
Accreditation
Space Night is a fully accredited government approved TIR haulier. TIR, standing for Transports Internationaux Routiers, is a multilatteral treaty by which goods that are crossing borders must abide by and conform to whilst allowing simpler and quicker cross border travel. It is this treaty that enabled Space Night to grow as we specialise in international traffic, be it by means of transportation of shipping containers to or from a port of entry within the Aurora Confederacy, or by means of cross-border transportation with loads secured by a pre-inspected and electronically logged customs seal.
As per requirement of the [T I R] proceedure, Space Night first acquires a harmonised customs document, known in the industry as a TIR Carnet, this document is valid internationally and describes in detail the goods in thereby in transit, as well as the shipper(s) for the described cargo and the final destination. Upon crossing borders, any applicable border taxes are deferred to the importer of the cargo upon arrival at the destination of the cargo, rather than being paid at the border crossing point, this simple procedure helps smooth out cross-border travel, saving time and money overall.
The TIR carnet also applies to airfreight, where import bound air cargo can come straight off the aircraft and go straight onto a waiting truck, rather than sit in the large airfreight warehouse for days waiting for clearance, outbound airfreight still has to be searched and scanned to ensure that it hereby conforms to air transport cargo regulations that are in place. Space Night is one of the few hauliers certified to operate directly from Hai'lu'kai international airport, as well as providing a single vehicle delivery service for people who are importing personal vehicles to the Aurora Confederacy, Space Night will handle all the relevant paperwork required to get your vehicle into the Aurora Conederacy.
SPACE NIGHT TRANSPORTATION was founded in July 2002 by Jason Hall, the aim was simple, to provide a high quality, professional distribution and logistical support service around the Hai'lu'kai area and southern Aurora Confederacy with the initial contract being to haul steam pipes and equipment to one of South Sands Nuclear's new-build nuclear power station, and when that was completed, Jason Hall, then operating as an owner-operator with just one truck, this truck was in 2004 joined by a second vehicle, and eventually as Jason pursued contracts and work, spending more time on the road as a sales representative rather than a driver, the fleet gradually expanded through leasing agreements with a Hai'lu'kai based leasing company.
In 2008 Space Night had outgrown its site on the shores of Lake Hai'lu'kai so moved to the new premisies, these new premises were totally custom built, costing over 1.7 million Northern Dinars however it was an investment worth every Dirham as the entire site was designed to save money in the long run by the extensive use of solar energy to generate 150% the power requirement of the building, allowing Space Night to sell power back to South Sands Nuclear and feed it into the national grid, because of this set up, the building has no mains electricity supply, just the feed into the national grid. All of the buildings own electrical supply is provided by the photo voltaic panels situated on the roof.
2010 saw Space Night Transportation become accredited for TIR operations by the Mercantile Federal Government, thereby allowing the company to become an integrated international intermodal haulier with Nouvel Ecosse being the first international destination over the road, however container operations by rail freight also became a big part of the operation with Space Night now also operating from the container and cargo terminal at Hai'lu'kai interchange situated in downtown Lake Hai'lu'kai
In the modern age of logistics, Satellite tracking has become part of the way of life in the industry and Space Night is no different, each vehicle is satellite tracked and has its own unique identifier. Using GPS systems and the Highways RF monitoring system, Space Night vehicles can be fully tracked throughout the country so at the click of a mouse its exact location can be determined, along with its speed vs the road posted speed, estimated time of arrival at customers premises, how much fuel the driver is using, how much driving time the driver has left, either of the driving period or the legal working day, it can also be used by planners to alert drivers of any potential problem ahead allowing for alternative routes to be planned or in the event that there is no alternative route, the customer can be informed of a revised estimated time of arrival.
Unit 2 Waterside Business plaza, situated close to the shores of the lake that gives the new Auroran capital city its name, that of Lake Hai'lu'kai, is just a short drive from the site where Space Night Transportation was founded, however the new building is designed to look towards the future. Expensive as it was to build, initially set to cost 1.5 million dinars, the actual cost was closer to 1.8 million dinars due to cost over-runs, however due to a penalty clause put in place by Jason, the additional costs were borne by the contractors as there was a late-completion penalty clause put in place at the start of construction. The building dominates the business plaza that it sits on, not least because of the array of solar panels on the roof but also the south facing facade is made almost entirely of glass, giving a modern appearance.
Part of the expensive nature of the building, but one that will ultimately save money is the fact that the headquarters of Space Night Transportation relies totally on the solar panels, with night time deep discharge batteries as the site is not on mains power for both electricity or heating, instead thermal heat pumps take heat from the lake waters and transfer it into the office and warehouse spaces of the building, maintaining a warm, comfortable working environment, whilst the solar panels on the roof provide enough energy to provide all the daytime requirements as well as keeping the batteries charged for night time operation however because of the efficiency of the solar panels, 1/3rd of the energy generated is sold to South Sands Nuclear and so fed into the national grid. At the south end of the building, the dark coloured roof also acts for solar thermal, producing hot water for consumption, whilst the advanced double glazing helps retain the heat overnight whilst the tint of the glass keeps excess and unwanted solar heat out during the day thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the offices significantly over a conventional on-grid office.
The State owned Kai'ilana river port is located half way up the Kai'ilana river and currently managed by Port Controller Yoshi Yoshitani of the Aurora Confederacy Ports Authority and is one of the largest ports in southern Aurora Confederacy with 4 large container terminals as well as a petrochemical dock and grain terminal with an annual TEU turnover of just shy of 2 million containers. This made the port very attractive as a suitable location to place our container operation given its proximity to our headquarters in Lake Hai'lu'kai. From here we ship containers across all of the Aurora Confederacy and occasionally to our neighbouring nations.
The location of the port, with close proximity to the Helskja - Hai'lu'kai Terra link makes the site ideal for direct access to the most efficient roads for long distance travel across the Aurora Confederacy and landlocked international destinations to the east of the Aurora Confederacy, and Space Night is ideally placed for that job, maintaining an office at the Harbour in which to manage the container logistics operation.
Alongside the core fleet of 160 Diamond Star Kvasir trucks, 6 Diamond Star Mjolnir and 12 Diamond Star Terra Star RX vehicles, Space night has a significantly larger fleet which is operated on a flexi-lease plan with a local leasing agents, allowing the fleet to expand and contract as demand increases or decreases with the workload, Space Night Transportation operates a number of different vehicles, ranging from the Kvasir and Mjolnir in 6x2 form, these are generally running with refrigerated trailers, which in the case of the Diamond Star Mjolnirs, the refrigerated trailers are equipped with solar powered refrigeration equipment and heavy duty tail lifts whilst the Diamond Star Kvasirs have conventional refrigeration equipment but with enhanced acoustic technology to reduce their noise signature. In addition to the refrigerated vehicles, Space Night operates a number of Diamond Star terrastar RX vehicles, these 4x2 cab over tractor units are on primarily container based work.
