MU Corporations denounce Rodarian ADIZ, military patrols increase
Several Tippercommoner Corporations have announced that the Rodarian ADIZ is illegitimate and that commercial trade will resume with military escort.

Oakford Naval Base, TIPPERCOMMON (MP) — A combined coalition of the Sussex Group Board of Directors, the Meritocracy Defense Export Association, and Kent & Harding Cargolifters has announced today that after a brief halt of trade to Itailia through the Sea of Orlessia due to the propagation of the new Rodarian Air Defence Identification Zone, the flow of merchant vessels and cargo aircraft will resume. Harold Hathaway, Minister of Defense, announced hours later that all Tippercommoner cargo aircraft travelling through the ADIZ must be accompanied by a naval fighter escort.

Immediately after the ADIZ was established early last month, the Meritocracy has not recognized its legitimacy, although a formal press conference regarding the matter had never been held until today. However, the Assembly and Senate Chamber passed a resolution two days after the creation of ADIZ prohibiting private vessels and aircraft from entering its airspace, hoping to minimize any confrontation while the consequences were analyzed. When this resolution expired on the 7th of February, the major corporate bodies which do business with Itailia, Orlessia, Erucia, and Emmeria acted, announcing that the ADIZ is unjust and overreaching. Included on the list of corporations which will resume trade through the ADIZ are the Sussex Group Conglomerate, the Meritocracy Defense Export Association, Kent & Harding Cargolifters, the Meritocracy Agriculture Export Association, and several oiling companies.

In tandem with this announcement, the Board of Defense announced that under Executive Resolution BD-920 that all private aircraft flying through the ADIZ are to be accompanied by military escort. In addition, according to an anonymous source from the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Meritocracy Naval Department has intentionally shifted several fighter patrol and reconnaissance routes from around Orlessia and the Central Ocean into the ADIZ. Reports from our military correspondents at the Oakford Naval Base have reported that the Fifth Fleet which is headed by the aircraft carriers TNV Ardent Wrath, TNV Resolution, and TNV Integrity have left dock with a full combat load, steaming north towards Itailia to enforce the policy of military escorts and to extend the standard Tippercommon patrol routes into the ADIZ.

When questioned about the possible cronyism regarding exports specifically to CDI member states and the unnecessary confrontation that may result from this new policy, Minister of Commerce Matthew Bateman had this to say: "The Meritocratic Union is a very commercial nation. Our military was formed 80 years ago specifically to aid in strengthening commercial ties with our neighbors. As far as I am concerned, this is another case of that very policy. The Board of Commerce and the Board of Defense see no problem with increasing our military presence in international waters by which the Rodarion government has somehow claimed jurisdiction."

Elliot Hamilton, de facto political head of the Libertarian Society Party in the National Assembly, denounced BD-920, stating that it was a, "needless show of aggression" and a "power play by the Parliamentarian majority."

Over the past few years, the Libertarian Society Party has been on the rise during elections, beating out the Democratic Socialists in the 2012 election has the new primary opposition party to the Parliamentarians. They have been riding on a ticket of downgrading the Tippercommon military and reducing Tippercommon's involvement with foreign affairs, commercially and politically. In the past, they have not been able to attain the majority in any provincial assembly, a good portion of the public seeing them as isolationists who seek to take a step back at the height of the nation's success. However, with the threat of retaliation from the Rodarian government in response to the Tippercommon government's actions, with this be true for the 2016 elections? Time will tell.

Papal Navy and Army to test SR-21 anti-ship ballistic missiles

The SR-21 missile codenamed (Red Star-29) is the latest in the Papal Armed Forces' area denial arsenal

Over the next two weeks, the Papal Army and Navy are going to conduct a variety of missile tests over the Sea of Orlessia, some of the missiles include a longer range variant of the Type 88 Coast-to-Sea anti-ship missile, an updated variant of the T-890 anti-ship missile and the SR-21 anti-ship ballistic missile which is capable of sinking aircraft carriers according to the Army. This comes several hours after the Deputy State President stated that the Papal Navy has taken precautionary measures when the CDI breaches the country's sovereign right to secure its waters from aggression and blatant hostility. The Papal Air Force is also reported to begin 'Emergency Patrol Exercises over the next two weeks, which will include over 300 aircraft of various types from naval bombers to fighter aircraft'.

The Foreign Ministry has informed the Kingdom of Orlessia of the planned exercises and has dispatched some $50.4 million in compensation for the Orlessian fishermen that will be effected by the coming exercises, the Foreign Ministry also stated that the recent deployment by the Orlessians will be exempt from the ADIZ until it has completed its exercises.

Reports that the Navy will also be testing the SR-22 anti-ship ballistic missile; which unlike its sister the SR-21, is submarine launched and has a range of up to 3,500km, have been denied by the Ministry of Defence and Homeland Security. Ordinary citizens have been reporting hightened activity in the skies over the eastern coastline, with hundreds of planes being spotted flying back and forth from the ocean. The Papal Army has shut off several coastal walks, as they have been spotted deploying some large vehicles along the cliffs north of Lui Hristos Peninsula. Large anti-air craft weapons have also been deployed along with radar vehicles, the Papal Army has stated is in line with the aims and purposes of the two week exercise, which is aimed to 'ensure the readiness of the Papal Armed Forces to meet any seabourne threat'.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon, Deputy State President General Atticus Flavreșcu said, "Of course many may see this announcement as a deterent towards the approaching Tippercommon carrier group, but as you know the ADIZ does not stop military vessels entering or passing through the Sea of Orlessia, it simply makes sure that their military aircraft are accounted for by Papal authorities and observed correctly to ensure the protection of our sovereign airspace and waters. I would recommend that the Meritocratic Union to have their carrier group return home and risk the chance of an unfortunate incident within the ADIZ. Any misunderstanding, accident or misjudgement could lead to serious repocussions on all, so I recommend them not to commit to this action".

The Papal Army has been conducting various parades across the Papal Republic as tensions between Rodarion and the CDI and its lackeys continue to escalate, due to ignorant and arrogant behaviour by CDI leaders. 40,000 people attended a parade in Voluntari this morning, in which over Le1.4 million was donated to the National Defence Fund, parades across the country have risen some Le321.3 million. Over 213,000 men above the annual quota have signed up for professional service in the Papal Armed Forces since the Red Christmas Bombings, the Orducii has recieved 343,000 new members in December-January alone.

Last night speaking to MPs, the State President declared "the Papal Republic is ready, the people are ready, the Papal Army, Air Force, Defence Corps, Navy and Orducii are ready. If the CDI wants to start a war with aggression, hostility and risky manouvers, they will suffer the concequences and learn the error of their misjudgement and arrogance".

The Fleet of Righteous Interdiction has continued to patrol and enforce the ADIZ, but reports now confirm that the Fleet of Glorious Vigilance will now also be deployed to meet the Tippercommon naval force now enroute to the ADIZ. The Papal Navy has also launched its Emergency Response Patrols, which include up to 40 frigates and corvettes that can patrol 4,000km out to sea. Over 40 submarines were spotted leaving the ports of Moreni and Brăila and heading out into the Sea of Orlessia. The Foreign Ministry released a statement, "This escalation rests at the feet of the Meritocratic Union and its CDI masters, there is no need for this hotheaded approach by the organisation's members. We will remind them that the Papal Republic as a sovereign state may take any measures necessary to protect its sovereignty and terroritorial integrity and will take measures to protect protocols already in place. They have been warned numerous times, they will not be such a luxrury again".

Sussex Space Center, TIPPERCOMMON (MP) — It was announced today by the TCCC that the Terra IV mission, part of a series of missions meant to assess the viability to human populations surviving on space stations, will be sending undergraduates (probably art and drama majors) to do the nasty. According to an inside source, the cargo manifest of Terra IV included three crates of Smirnoff and fifty liters of water-based lubricant.

The experiment which will begin on 4 March 2014 will analyze the viability of sexual reproduction in space, whether fertilization is possible, and if straps are required. Researchers will likely be all over these lucky students who will be crowned as the first citizens of the Meritocracy to have sex in space. Their expertise will likely be a valuable asset to Tippercommon's emerging adult film industry. As 80% of the students assigned to Terra IV are art majors, it is likely that they would be heading down that career path anyway.

Oakford Naval Base, TIPPERCOMMON (MP) — The Navy has come from left field with the deployment of a carrier group to the Rodarian ADIZ in the Sea of Orlessia. The 5th Carrier Group, colloquially dubbed, "The Hand-Me-Down Fleet" left port in Oakford this week bound for the ADIZ, likely with Mitsubishi Zeroes and modernized Stukas on the deck.

This move came a month after the Papacy announced that it was fed up with Itailian aircraft taking pictures of millions idiotic Catholics having marital sex and probably broadcasting an Islamic Call to Prayer over the radio. Everybody wants to look at the birthmark that weird kid on the playground has even more when they throw a fit whenever anybody asks. The ADIZ is just a call for attention, and Tippercommon is answering that call. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? It's not like those lazy Catholics will cross the Central Ocean to invade the pearly gates of Tippercommon. If worst comes to worst, we'll just sacrifice our steam-powered aircraft carriers and stealth biplanes and move on.

Highgate, Orlessia - After three months of one of the largest delivery efforts undertaken by the Orlessian Kingdom, the arms sale that was registered with Belhavia more then three months ago was finally completed today as the last of 170 F-14D Tomcats purchased from the Empire arrived today in Orlessia.

The arms sale highlighted a critical factor with Orlessian Naval Aviation, the lack of airframes following several crippling Executive Mandates from formerly Labour governments in previous years. Prime Minister North has worked to restore the depleted aircraft numbers and repair rusting frames, but the first batch isn't expected to be complete until the end of the month.

The F-14's will be deployed to the H.M.S. Genereaux, H.M.S. Liverly and H.M.S. Paradox, who with the delivery, now have completely full air wings. One of our journalists was able to contact Belhavian defense officials, who commented as follows: "Our air force had a reserve of 150 well-maintained F-14s we stopped using in the early 1990s as well as 20 additional fighters in various levels of scrap. When the Orlessian Royal Government approached us to purchase them, we agreed on a reasonable* price. Orlessia is a good trading partner of ours and it was a good deal for both sides."

OPA Sanctions Proposed In Retaliation To Project Zealot: Government Response Swift

Outrage rang out across the nation today as word of Resolution 0007 reached Tarsas. The resolution contains a list of sanctions against the Enlightened Empire for no reason whatsoever. In accordance with OPA law, chemical and biological weapons cannot be deployed on Pardesi soil in an offensive manner. The resolution stated, Resolution 0003, does not prohibit the development, manufacture, or sale of such weapons.

"We've not broken a single international law", stated Project Zealot head Air Dux Moreius Fera. "We are fully within the law to develop chemical weapons." Many in the Imperial Senate have also questioned the resolution. A special emergency committee to evaluate the risks of continuing Project Zealot has convened in Civitas Tarsae today. The commitee will consist of the Emperor, his seven top advisers, eight senators, and eight top ranking military staff. They will discuss the risks and advantages of continuing the project.

In the meantime, the project's heads have taken a different position. Moreius Fera gave us his own statement. "We will continue the program up until the second we are ordered to halt. We hope that we will be allowed to continue. With the risk of WMDs becoming easier to access for dangerous tinpot dictators, we have to have our own more deadly response."

Some in the senate have questioned the actions of the military. A senator, who wished to be kept anonymous, had this to say. "Why would the military announce such a thing at a time like this and the Emperor just go along with it? One of our closest allies is at war and WMDs are a hot topic all across the region. They had to think something like this might happen. I question their belligerence."

The same senator went on to criticize the government harshly, blaming them for this farce. High Command issued a statement regarding the issue. "We refuse to yield to international pressures. This is a blatant attempt to control Tarsas, though not a very intelligent one. Had Resolution 0003 even been truly considered at the time this was written, the author would have seen that Tarsas has not broken a single law. We will not back down."

The Ivory Palace threw its support in behind the statement. With the Emperor on board, it is unlikely the senate will be able to halt the project. The program's five year budget plan was approved by the Treasury Office early this morning signaling that the program would get off to a true start.

The population seems to be divided. While some seem to be in favor, others have alluded to the program's dark past. The Head of the History Department at Imperial University, Alase Caralae Metz, had this to say. "Project Zealot has been something that was brushed under the rug after a full picture of the methods of those involved were revealed in 1998 when all documents pertaining to it were declassified after the military ordered it to shut down operations. Many instances of testing on animals were uncovered. The program apparently tested chemicals on everything from rats to cattle. This was only stopped in 1979 when a Senatorial Cease and Desist Order was passed regarding animal testing. While none of the declassified material ever states either way, there exists circumstantial evidence that testing was even done on death row inmates. Large numbers of death row inmates getting lost in the system and never reappearing match up with major breakthroughs by the program."

Military High Command denies that testing was ever done on anything more than animals. "The 20th century was a different time government run by different people. Testing on animals will not resume and will not be tolerated. We can confirm that humans were never used in any testing. We do not intend to ever use humans for testing chemical weapons."

Metz disagrees, however. "I think that testing was carried out on human brings with certainty. Do I think they'll do it again? No. We have a different government now and more strict laws are in place. I just wish someone would take responsibility."

KARLSFIELD - The presidential election looms in, with Theodore Brunswick being the "absolute winner" of the 2014 Confederate Party presidential primaries. Coming as a surprise to many who predicted a close race between himself and senator Donald Duncan of Kensington. The official nominee outs "excitement" and "joy" thanking the people who supported him and turned to his next objective, he explains as: "Focussing on the big [presidential] election on march the 3rd." The sides have been drawn and the clock is ticking.

Who is this 63-year-old South Laker and what does he stand for? Born in Kent a small town near Franklin the young Brunswick followed the footsteps of his father to become a successful entrepreneur with his Master’s degree in Finance and later found himself as live Liberty Square broker. During which he met his wife Kimberly Croford, a Belfrasian teacher. Brunswick became State President of South Lake for a period from 2005-2010, he openly applauded the invasion of Talibastain in 2009, calling it: “A necessary move toward international peace and stability in Pardes”.

In his campaign he describes himself as a man who serves in the interest of the state, looking beyond his party affiliation, for opportunities of cooperation and “where needed” compromise. Now nominated candidate for Confederal Presidency. Hardline criticism directed at President Shalom is not on the table, “we have a view that may be different, but we are willing to present our view without having to make a mockery out of the other. Our policies are solid.” Brunswick finished.

Uptown, Kensington (CCN) -- Approximately 50 aircraft belonging to the Western Confederal States, Anikatia and Tippercommon took off Sunday morning from the Uptown air base, signaling the beginning of a military air exercise hosted by the Western Confederal States. After months of profound negotiations between the Meritocracy's, Anikatian and Western delegates and subsequent assembling of assets on Hangris Island, the joint aerial exercise codenamed "Cloud Brush" kicked off and will last until next week.

The proportionate exercise refrains from focusing on any specific operational situation, rather it intends to put the nations' general aerial capabilities to the test. A WAF (Western Air Force) official involved in the exercise reports "We are to conduct an exercise that is quite unique to Pardes' military history," he explains: "In the past, foreign nations were uncomfortable in sharing live data from the plane to ground forces, this time we are witnessing it." Representatives of a wide variety of nations are also viewing the exercise on the ground.

The Meritocratic Union of Tippercommon has, in its contribution to Cloud Brush allocated the TNV Republic—a Scimitar-class aircraft carrier—to ship a quantity of fighter jets and electronic warfare aircraft. While sources claim that its AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System), the E3 Sentry, flew out of Oakford, a naval base situated in the Meritocratic Union itself.

A similar picture was drawn by the Republic of Anikatia, who shipped a number of 18 fighters aboard the Peytia, a Motykov class bulky aircraft carrier. She operates as the flagship of a dispatched Task Group including 2 Udaloy II class ASW destroyers, 2 Krivak IV class frigates, 1 Akula III nuclear attack submarine and 1 Cantabria class support ship.

The diverse span of aircraft including: F-29s, F-31s, F3s, F2s, F-14 Tomcats, Ay-05s, MyL-23ks—to name a few—are rowing up to commence intertwined military training missions with the strict intention of "improving mutual air capabilities", says the spokesperson of Cloud Brush and three-star ranked WAF officer, Marshal Bryan Powers-Carne. The exercise includes training missions to identify anti-aircraft missiles as well as surface-to-air ones. The exercise will also include dogfights.

Rumours indicate that Cloud Brush is set around a provocative campaign directed at Romula, who announced adjustments to the Papal Republic's ADIZ (Air Defence Identification Zone). Domestic pacifist groups such as Watchtower are in agreement. Marshal Powers-Carne slams these rumours as "highly irrelevant", claiming that the negotiations that led to Cloud Brush traces back months before the tensions started to evolve in Lyzankya.

This planned military air exercise, goes in line with naval exercises hosted by the Altrenian Administratum set around Pardes' southernmost ocean. Where contingents of the 5th Western naval fleet are cooperating with the Altrenian navy to boost interoperability between the two navies respectively. As well as exercises between the Confederal States and the United Republic in northern Lyzankya.

"The Western Armed Forces are seen as a flourishing international trademark," states defense expert Edris Mahan. "Foreign involvement contributes to the betterment of the Armed Forces, it has been like this ever since the War in Baharaq and later during the Talibastaini War. Western Forces never stood alone in battle and have always conducted operations in cooperation with its allies. That's why these joint military exercises are so essential, if not vital."

Roșiorii de Vede to become a Pardesi hub

Roșiorii de Vede's seawalk has become a landmark of its own in Rodarion

The east coast city of Roșiorii de Vede has been a rising star within the Papal Republic's urbanisation, it has turned from a polluted port, into a major import/export hub and a major financial services machine. Before 2011, the city's name was hardly heard or uttered, most people who knew about it, probably knew about it only through it's status as the third largest Papal Navy base and its shipbuilding capabilities, other than that it was lucky if it was even known by those who live only 100km away from it. In 2011, the SeaWalk was opened by his Holiness Pope Pius III, the 4 mile wide and 3 mile deep district of the city produced much needed office space, spacious parks and the Pope Pius Opera House. Hasdeu Tower was also opened the same night and became the second tallest tower in Rodarion and one of the tallest in Pardes. But the city aims to continue to redecorate itself and transform itself further into a Pardesi megacity.

Despite the fears and worries over the tensions with the CDI, the Roșiorii de Vede City Assembly (RVCA) is still eager to project an image of progression, prosperity and development for what is now the country's 9th largest city. With a population of 11.3 million, it has suffered the same pains and issues as the bigger cities of the Papal Republic, the city like the capital suffers housing shortages, youth unemployment and power supply issues, yet the city has all but wiped out these problems with $200 billion in investment. This huge sum of money was reward to the RVCA by the central government in March 2010, after the city defeated Moreni and Tismana to recieve the money through a race to present the most compelling plan for growth. In the four years since, the city has recieved a metro system, a new hydroelectric power plant, built over 45,000 new dwellings, 235 new factories and six new drydocks and over 200km worth of road and pavement.

The city's population has grown from an estimated 7.4 million in 2010 to 11,395,008 in the 2013 census. The city has come into competition with Brăila to become the jewel on the Orlessian Sea, however it has a long way to go to beat Brăila to that prestigious title, especially due to Brăila's growing economic, political and religious importance. The Brăila City Assembly also boasts more revenue and currently stands as the country's cleanest major city. Brăila along with Voluntari, Satu Mare and Livada has been classed as a 'surge population attractor', which means the cities list are to become homes for people attempting to move to Romulă, but fail to secure a home due to the lottery in place.

Senior Rodarian Sociologist at the University of Saint Michael, Professor Lupan Dragu had these to say, "the competition between Brăila and Roșiorii really goes beyond the status of the jewel of the Orlessian Sea, it really comes down between their competition over who can take on the capital, as the crown of the Papal Republic. What is important to remember, is that the biggest ten cities in the country, have attitudes, minds and souls of their own, and that sibling rivarly if you will, is what is driving our cities forward to become sustainable, greener and wealthier".

Minister for Internal Development, Mihail Braz gave comment congratulating Roșiorii. "Never before have seen a city transform at such a rapid pace, from a relatively unkept, uncared place into a glittering beacon of prosperity on the Sea of Orlessia. Hopefully more cities in the Papal Republic will take affirmative action and follow the lead of Roșiorii".

The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed reports that a serious incident has taken place on the border with the Western Confederation. According to their report and that of the police at the border, the Border Protection Force engaged and killed three Rodarian nationals who attempted to breach the closed border in order to sell top-secret information to the CDI. The vehicle they used drove towards the closed gate at speeds past 100mph, in response the guards opened fire on the car, as it smashed through the gate it continued, the border guards took it upon themselves after receiving fire to retaliate. One of the guards succeeded in bringing the car to a halt, seconds later a brief exchange fire took place between them and the Western Guards. No Western or Rodarian guard was killed, however there is injuries on both sides.

The three traitors' identities have been confirmed, all three worked for the Ministry of Defence and Homeland Security with responsibilities in top secret weapons design. Emilian Dobra, 45, Kara Hobai, 33 and Lukas Mandruleanu, 55. All three leave behind families that will now bear the pain of their treasonous behaviour that led to their deaths. Their fellow collegues are now being interviewed by the Office of the Holy Inquisition to determine whether the three forced others to sell information to the CDI or any another hostile force. Two other people have been arrested in connection to today's incident, one of the arrested is known to be a prolific hacker who succeeded in stealing some records from the Ministry of Defence two weeks ago, but was arrested and released due to poor evidence, he will now face execution for Crimes against the Church State.

The Foreign Ministry has been in contact with the Western State Department over the incident, however no details of the communications have been released. Some in the Holy Assembly have stated that the Western Confederation's 'unecessary militarisation of the border is prompting traitors to emerge from the wood work.' The incident comes several days after the Western Confederation began to engage in major naval exercises in the Central Ocean, the Foreign Ministry has not commented, however several rumours have emerged stating that the government is not concerned over exercises conducted by the Western Confederation. However many have cited this as a Rodarian back pedal over the country's policy regarding the Itailian Crisis.

The 11 Border Protection Force personnel are expected to give evidence to a formal inquest in the coming days. The Deputy State President has declared himself ready to visit Viridia to settle the issue diplomatically.

The increasing militarisation along the Rodar-Western border sparks up controversy within the state of Torchland, a majority of which (55.6%), according to several estimates confirmed by the Western DWIA, support Romula's foreign policies. Simultaneously most people (58%) are displeased by the increasing presence of Western Soldiers within the State. Several protesters in front of the Torchlander Parliamentary building have been spotted wearing religious symbols. One protester, when interviewed, directly denounced the Governer: "Mr. Green is a puppet of the Confederal Government. He is nothing more but a godforsaken capitalist Western bank clerk. I can speak in the name of the people of Torchland that we are done with those kind of people." The number of copies of the Daily Message being sold in Torchland has risen by 22% since the crisis began in November last yeard - The Daily Message is a Vatican run and published newspaper that offers political-religious views towards situations across Pardes and is criticised by some as being a propaganda piece for the Christian Nationalist dominated Mother Church.

The last time the MU participated in a joint military exercise in 2010.

Oakford Naval Base, TIPPERCOMMON (MP) — The same week that the MU made the declaration that Rodarion's new ADIZ would be ignored and that it would actively deploy naval and air forces, it has been announced that it would participate in a joint aerial military exercise with the West and Anikatia. Are we testing our capabilities or waving our massive stealth dick around for the region to see? I'm gonna go with the second one.

The MU is contributing at least 20 fighters, 5 of which have been confirmed to be the new Corsair F3's, which have been transported to the exercise area by the TNV Republic, one of the largest ships in the Tippercommon arsenal. While the Minister of Defense has not commented on claims that this is an excuse to show Rodarion what its air force is made of just before its air forces enter the ADIZ, I think by how elaborate that statement is and how we wrote it all out here, you can assume it to be true.

This is, of course, the first time the MU has participated in a joint military exercise, since 2010 when an Tippercommon C-17 lost hydraulics and two engines, crashing off the coast of the Oakford Naval Base. Will this exercise produce similar results? We can only hope so. The Tippercommon movie industry has been slipping in the past few years and really needs some gains in the military drama department.

PROVISA, NEW BELHAVIA — Yesterday, the Kyrusian authorities arrested Belhavian national Nathaniel Osbourne for violating the Prohibition of Unlawful Ideological Organizations Act, which prohibits of an extensive breadth of political organizations associated with global terrorism and prohibited political expressions.

Osbourne, a marketing executive from North Star Pharmaceuticals, a Freeport-based pharmaceutical supplier, was arrested outside of his apartment in the city of Rekrestok. Kyrusian state security officers raided his apartment and found "over two terabytes of electronic media containing information of a sensitive nature between Kyrusian diplomats and foreign colleagues," a spokesman for the security forces released. He elaborated that Osbourne was found with "possession of pro-Freeleaks propaganda and six grams of a controlled substance." This was later revealed to be methamphetamine.

OpenDoors, a Provisa-based government watchdog and fact-checker organization that uncovered the German donors scandal last summer, confirmed Kyrusian reporting that Osbourne was a prolific LIb Dem donor. He has also contributed $3,000 last year to the Hemp Alliance, a Dakos-based a pro-marijuana legalization interest group. Mary Bellian, a spokeswoman for OpenDoors, said at a press conference this morning that "Mr. Osbourne has contributed UR$3,600 to the Lib[eral] Dem[ocratic] party, as well as nearly UR$5,000 to various left-leaning and Lib[eral] Dem[ocrat]-oriented political committees, including the Hemp Alliance."

Foreign Minister Daniel Nobelstein, confirmed by the Imperial Senate into his new post yesterday to succeed 17-year veteran Joseph Hansdann - who resigned to become president of the prestigious Imperial Social Sciences Institute in the private sector - is already setting a stern tone beginning his tenure atop the Foreign Ministry. "Nathaniel Osbourne is a traitor, a terrorist sympathizer, and a criminal," he charged powerfully at a press conference this morning. "We thank and applaud the Kyrusian Fortified State's vigilant security forces for discovering his criminal acts and taking him into custody."

When asked about his potential death sentence with the charges he is indited with under Kyrusian law, Nobelstein shrugged. "Frankly, we agree with the potential sentence put forth by the Kyrusian authorities. We are, however, interested in a meeting to discuss his extradition back to the Empire. Rest assured, the Ministry of Justice intends to charge him with treason pursuant to his acts in supporting Freeleaks.org, a dangerous left-anarchist whistle-blower organization than has been put on our National Security bulletin. As you all in the media are well-aware, I have labelled Freeleaks 'an accomplice of tyranny' and I proudly stand by that assertion," adding, "Under the National Security Act of 1961, if found guilty, Osbourne will face the death penalty under Imperial law."

Goldman Administration's Tough Tone On Osbourne Affair Reinvigorates Freeleaks Debate

"Foreign Minister Nobelstein's vendetta against good-faith whistle blowers like Freeleaks is well known," scoffed Professor James Harken, the prominent antiwar activist. "Reactionaries like Nobelstein and Goldman only seek to impose their neoconservative whims over other countries, like Rodarion or Irkutia. I've said it once and I'll say it again: give transparency a try. Freeleaks should be honored and not condemned."

"Of course the liberals and weak-on-defense types support Freeleaks," sneered Joshua Sleuss, spokesman for the Committee for National Security, a nonprofit political advocacy group oriented towards defense hawks. "They see imperfection under every rock here at home, while conveniently shielding their eyes from the brutal repression in the rogue states in our own backyard. Nathaniel Osbourne betrayed his country. There's a punishment for that - death. Either the Kyrusians execute him, or our courts will."

Celebrity singer Jessica Lock, known for her liberal politics and popular Youtube music video "Party All F***ing Night, B*tches," took to Twitter to support Osbourne, tweeting, "@DanNobelstein @Freeleaks is NOT an #accompliceoftyranny. #ISupportFreeleaks. #FreeOsbourne from Jail." In retort, Evan Janzersky, a conservative blogger who runs the right-leaning web news clearinghouse The Daily Right, tweeted, "@JLocke Get real. #ISupportOsbourne equals #Treason."

A spokesman for the Presidential Palace replied to press inquiries, saying, "President Goldman supports Foreign Minister Nobelstein's views on Freeleaks - the President was the one who authorized the dangerous anarchist group to be put on the National Security bulletin as an 'enemy of the state.' If the facts support the claims the government of the Fortified State are making - and we believe they do - then Mr. Osbourne committed high treason. We are currently talking with officials in Vyazkhva to see if he can be extradited to the Empire to stand trial."

The Osbourne Affair and its Freeleaks corollary became an issue in the marquee 2014 Senate election in Freeport, where high-profile Conservative candidate and corporate scion Jacen Gray remarked to reporters on his way into a high-dollar fundraiser in Avalon, Freeport, "that Nathaniel Osbourne is a disgrace to our august Empire, and I hope he hangs quickly in Kyrusia. Better to let them do it and save our taxpayers' the bill to execute the son of a b*tch."

His Lib Dem opponent, former Governor Jack Haller, hit back in a statement minutes later decrying "Jacen Gray's callous disregard to one of our citizens who has been arrested abroad. Instead of trying to get him home, Gray emulates the far-right-wing Goldman-Nobelstein agenda of attacking truth-revealing whistle blowers and government watchdog organizations. Jacen Gray: just another extreme Conservative reactionary."

A Gray campaign spokesman emailed back in reply: "Jack Haller, just another far left nutjob marching lockstep with the Provisa Lib Dem establishment. Jack Haller's a cheerleader for Freeleaks - an anti-Belhavian anarchist group. He's more of the same fringe crazies, just another Merrina liberal."

Analysis: A dangerous time for all

Why the Drakkar crisis may rapidly spiral out of control

Some of the world's most intractable conflicts begin with a minor incident before becoming an uncontrollable wildfire. Others start with a calamitous event, before plateauing into a state of perpetual cold hostility.

How, then, do we classify what is happening in southern Itailia? What are we likely to find once we deconstruct the factors influencing this area which has gone from relative backwater to the powderkeg of Pardes virtually overnight in December?

Fundie awakening

First of all, the insurgency has taken most analysts by complete surprise. Itailians, whether catholic or pagan, have long been seen in Arthurista as nationalists of the imperial kind, first and foremost, not "christian nationalists" in the Romulan sense. They are not a stereotypical persecuted minority. Rather, they constitute almost half the population of the empire and lived in harmony with its pagan citizens. While the Red Christmas bombings was a cataclysmic event, the idea that a significant portion of Drakkar's catholics would enthusiastically rise in rebellion against Caesar, at the behest of a fundamentalist terrorist organisation, would have been utterly unthinkable to most informed experts barely a month ago. If significant social-political currents have long been at work beneath the surface, which could lead to such widespread disaffection and alienation of the Drakkar catholics against the imperial government and their pagan neighbours, no sign or indication was discernible before the event which could have forewarned of this outcome.

Cry havoc?

The internal unrest in Drakkar Province has been matched by the growing external threat of the Rodarian state, whose bellicose support for the uprising has also been unexpected by analysts. Traditionally, the Papal Republic has been quick to denounce acts of terrorism or other varieties of political violence perpetrated by catholic paramlitaries. The fact that it is no longer concered with the niceties of plausible deniability suggests that it no longer regards even the most minimal of diplomatic relations with CDI states to be a priority. This could be the start of a new cold war, or worse.

Militarily, a balance of forces analysis is more complex than it first appears. Naturally, the combined might of the CDI infinitely outweighs that of Rodarion. The latter can, at best, pursue a strategy of air denial against the CDI's airpower. Likewise, it can feasibly attempt to bastion-ise the Orlessian Sea against the fleets of the CDI nations, all of which individually outnumbers the Papal Navy. Locally in the Drakkar Province, however, Rodarian forces heavily outnumber the defenders. Itailian Legionaries, Arthuristan Commonwealth Guards and other CDI nations' troops have a certain qualitative edge, assisted by the Rubicon River and the massive belt of fortified territory behind it. Nevertheless, reinforcements have been singularly slow in filtering down to the hotzone, even with the insurgency taking place. If we only take into consideration forces immediately available to the prospective combatants, a land war in the province could be a 'close-run thing' indeed.

It remains to be seen whether a diplomatic compromise, followed by mutual de-escalation, can be brokered in the eleventh hour. With the Orlessian Sea ADIZ being actively challenged and Nece in a state of full uprising, however, it is a dangerous time for all, and every sign indicates that things may very well be about to get a lot worse.

Rodarion, what went wrong?

In 2005, a 78 year old Cardinal was elected by conclave to become the 264th Pope of the Romulăn Catholic Church, one of the most powerful and wealthiest institutions in Pardes. His election saw him succeed Pope Benedict XII, who had served as the Pontiff for over 29 years, not only did have a shadow to escape, he also represented a rebellion against the so called 'Kind Conservatism', Pope Benedict ruled through; Pope Pius III had arrived and with him came hardline traditionalist rule and a Vatican dominated by Christian Nationalists. It was the first time the man in the Vatican operated on such a strong hardline position and it was the first time a Pope truely had the ear of the elected President and perhaps most dangerously, it was the first time the Church and the elected executive shared an ideology: Rodarion was on the path towards becoming a pariah state.

Prior to 2005, the Papal Republic existed as a relatively peace loving nation, it enjoyed cordial and warm relations with several members of the CDI, it enjoyed a strong and cooperative trade relationship with Belfras, warm relations with Itailia and warm relations with its somewhat Catholic neighbour the Western Confederation. Since the late 1980s and 90s, the country enjoyed a constant economic boom, its population was emerging from the duldrums of destitution to new found economic power. The rural regions came from a backward alternate universe into a highly mechanised food basket that revolutionanised the Rodarian economy and society. The Papal Republic was leaving the second world and slowly entering the first world, helped by strong trade with its neighbours.

The 1990s saw the administration of Nicolae Ponta, the longest serving Rodarian President and the most domineering. His 13 years in power although delivered the economic boom, also heralded the deaths of many freedoms previously enjoyed by the Rodarian people. He obliterated the free press, allowing on several Liberal orientated national newspapers who had to swear an oath to preserve the integrity of the Church State, he increased the powers of the National Police, enforced stronger laws which effectively turned Rodarion into an authoritarian police state. But people were earning more money than any other previous generation had enjoyed, there more jobs on offer than in recorded Rodarian history, infrastructure projects and a construction boom kept the people content. In essence the Ponta Administration laid the foundations for the Rodarion today; a strong economic and political power with unlimited state power. But it was also in the 1990s that the Papal Armed Forces began their expensive modernisation programme. This programme brought the Papal Armed Forces to the fore of national pride, as President Ponta said "no Papal Armed Forces, would mean we, as a nation are nothing, we our pride, our joy and our safety to them and we must always respect that or God help us".

Despite the economic and military rise of the Papal Republic, there was a current running through Rodarian society and policy makers; uncertainty in Rodarion's position within Pardes, was it a power of any status? where should it position its loyalties? Was it even a major nation in regional importance. This self doubt guided foreign policy from 2004-2013 under President Ion Iliescu, although an expert in domestic policy, he and his government struggled to channel Rodarion's positive economic progress into the foreign sphere, it was this period that led to the rise of Christian Nationalism in the form of militarism. The Salvation Party which had ruled Rodarion since 1955, had secured over 10 election victories and prided itself over its constant service to the people. The theocratic system benefited them and the ruling Clergy in the Vatican because it defended Rodarian society from the erosion of faith seen across the world, but it failed to produce any meaningful goals or aims for the outside world.

The uncertainty in Rodarion's position led to many within the party and Church to argue that Rodarion was indeed a Major Power and had to prove it to the rest of Pardes, although the Papal Republic never recieved any recognition as such a power; that itself was a cause of the problem. The late 2000s alone saw huge ideological shifts within the party and Church, 'Christian Brotherhood' and 'Guardianship of Christendom' were two ideals that emerged in the period, propelled by nationalist scholars, popular politicians and political minded Vatican elites. Both positioned Rodarion as a major power and both pushed for Rodarion to become proactive in Pardes; to either build stronger ties with nations with sizeable Catholic populations, or to position Rodarion as the defender of all Christendom. As President Iliescu's health detoriated in 2010 due cancer, his government was unofficially run by the then Foreign Minister, Octavian Ceaușescu. Ceaușescu proved to be the warrior incarnate for the nationalist cause, he sidelined the then Vice President Petru Olmescu from any influence on foreign policy making and in 2011, declared the Papal Republic the 'Guardian of the Christian World, the protector, the guide, the investor'. Within months the Papal Republic invested over $500 billion in infrastructure, businesses, industry and development in Armavira, Drakkar Province (Itailia), Nos Callis (Belfras), Torchland (Western Confederation) and various businesses and charities run by Catholics in Arthurista.

The declaration was also a watershed moment for the Papal Armed Forces, for now they had a secondary goal; to protect the Catholic minorities across Pardes. Drakkar in Itailia had always witnessed sectarian tensions between its Catholics and Pagans, the situation worsened with the new 'Rodarian Position' as sectarian hatred rose within the official culture of the Rodarian state, the declaration finally allowed pride from the country's rise to turn into arrogance. This of course was aggrivated furhter by the election of Pope Pius III in 2005, he pushed and pushed the nationalist agenda and further fuelled the transforamtion of Rodarian society into a quasi-religious political mass, he did this subtly and brilliantly in secret as the public cover was that the Church was losening its control over the direct running of the country, in theory it was because the interests and policies of both the elected exective and the Church were becoming identical.

In 2013, President Iliescu died and was officially replaced by Ceaușescu, within weeks the Papal Republic rebelled and turned on the CDI, which was seen as a 'Cabal of Apostates and Heathens'. Both Rodarion and Belfras came inches to war following a major rhetorical and military standoff, simataneously the Papal Armed Forces for more resources and government attention, not only did become the biggest recipient in budget increases, it become a major pillar of the security apparatus. The National Police were everywhere, CCTV cameras, censorship and political arrests were increasing daily under Ceaușescu. Following the standoff with Belfras, the Papal Republic retreated realising it pushed to far ahead than what it should have. The Ceaușescu government sacrificed its Foreign Minister to the Belfrasians and the Papal Republic turned its attention to the Hegemonic Union, simaltaneously with these developments Rodarion's economic and military rise continued unabated, further building hubris into policy making. The Rodarian people began to sing the government tune, not through fear of government terror but through personal conviction over the new 'Rodarian Position', in October 2013, it was found that 68% of Rodarians wanted the government to push against the Belfrasians during the year's crisis.

However 2013 also saw the Rodarian dubbed 'Troubles'; mass protests by pro-democracy groups, pro-freedom groups and other opponents of the Salvation Party and the theocratic system. Over 400 people were killed and 3,000 plus arrested, it shook the system to the core, reforms were declared including a major change to the Abortion Law which allowed the victim of rape to abort their child if the Mother was not married. Ceaușescu was replaced with the reformist Tiberiu Alexandreșcu, who was reformist at home, but abroad was a New Positionist; the Guardian and Brotherhood advocate. However tensions in Drakkar and the subsequent massacre of 500,000 Catholics broke the Rodarian system. The Church, the people, the Salvation Party and the Armed Forces unified in their anger at the three administration's inaction supported albeit tacit like, the 912 Coup D'etat which saw the Papal Armed Forces assume control over the executive and legislature under the Church. The new 'Rodarian Position' now had the means to be enforced.

The Ecclesiastical Security Commission; the fancy name given to the military regime, is the victim of its own ideals. With nationalism within the populace and the Church pushing and pushing the country to prove itself as a Major Power and to reassure the Catholic world that it is truly the Guardian of Christendom, there maybe no other option than to carry out its duty and give way to war in Drakkar against the CDI. If that is the case, then it is most probable that hundreds of thousands of people will be killed and millions more wounded or made homeless, because within this nationalist cause is religion; any war now would be a Crusade and that calls for no peace; only victory or martyrdom of the entire country. Pardes failed to give Rodarion the recognition that it craved to soothe its uncertainty and insecurity, but Rodarion also failed to recognise that recognition wasn't necessary and that it was possible to find its way in Pardes and its place, but alas it is too late. Hubris and the belief that the country must build its place in Pardes through blood and sacrifice has given way to Religious Nationalism and it may well cause the greatest war in Pardesi living history.

Papal Republic continues to flex its muscles in face of CDI aggression

The country is now fully engaged in flexing its military muscles in the face of unwarranted aggression and hostility by the Central Defence Initiative. Across the country further measures have been enacted to ensure the security of the country and the Rodarian people from hostile acts by either Belfras or Itailia. Today in Romulă over 65,000 soldiers were on parade before the Holy Father and Cardinals in one of the largest displays of Rodarian military might. The Ministry of Defence and Homeland Security has stated that over 8 million men of the Papal Army, nearly 80% of its active force has been deployed to the borders with Belfras, the Western Confederation and Itailia for the task of border protection and airspace protection. It is one of the greatest military deployments by the Papal Republic in its history, something many analysts have recognised as a sign of the severeity of tensions between the CDI and Rodarion.

Speaking to the soldiers and spectators this afternoon, his Holiness Pope Pius said, "It is a great pleasure to watch you, our brave sons march and salute this country and the Lord above in such an ordered and professional way. These times are dark and deadly, they hold within their hands peace or violence on a great scale. But let us remind the world with our voices crying out in unison, that it was the Itailians who started this, and by God's grace it shall be us who finish it".

Over 190 Cardinals were also in attendance, with many donating money from their personal accounts to the 'National Defence Fund'. Cardinal Florian Turescu donated over $50,000 to the Fund, which is used to supply soldiers with high quality clothing, foods and entertainment, 30% of the fund goes towards supporting the production of weapons and ammunition. Speaking to reporters afterwards, Cardinal Turescu said, "It was an incredible sight, its always spinetingling to watch such talent young warriors march in unison like that, makes you proud indeed to see the Army of God march before you". Thousands of people have commented on social networking over the huge activity the Papal Armed Forces have caused, many have been supportive statements, with one user saying "never been so proud, the legions of heaven march on our streets people!!!" Nationalist fervour over the Armed Forces has grown rapidly over the past few months, with many across the country believing that God has inspired the Rodarian soul to commit itself to the struggle of religious survival.

Popular firebrand, Father Anton Malaxa gave a speech today in Saint Alphonus Park before 750 people. In his speech, Father Malaxa said, "Do you hear it brothers and sisters? Do you hear the drum beat, the trumpets of the holy heralds echoing out across the clouds? That is the sound of the call to Crusade, soon my friends we shall be apart of such a great movement, of such a great act that will see our righteous armies marching over the soil of the Pagan and when it does happen, every single one of us must donate our energy and our prayers to the soldiers of Christ and the seven trumpets will sound and God will vanquish his enemies through us his soldiers, his army".

Hundreds of tanks were also paraded today

Priests, Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals have spoken much about the current crisis and tensions during mass over the past two weeks. The Office of the Curia confirmed that the Magisterium had ordered Dioceses across the Papal Republic to prepare the people of the Lord for the worst case scenario, however many in Rodarion think peace would be the worse case scenario. A poll by the Romulă Daily of 2,300 readers found that 73% of them saw war as the only option to end the crisis. Many spectators at the parade today spoke to reporters, all of them agreeing that action should be taken.

"They have to be punished, they [CDI] can't be allowed to carry on doing what they're doing in Drakkar. They're killing innocent Catholics because a few brave ones want to free themselves from the Pagan" said one.

"Its our duty to protect Christendom, no question, no debate. We go in and finish the problem they started" said another.

Similar military parades have been taking place daily across the country, with over 2.3 million people watching them in total. One analyst from the City University of Voluntari stated in a blog, "its obvious, the government is using the parade to raise public support and nationalist fervor, the Church is using its supreme political position to justify the actions towards the CDI through religion. It is therefore, quite clear that this is merely an public relations campaign aimed at rallying the people before the fall into warfare".

The Papal Armed Forces have announced a second two weeks worth of exercises in the Orlessian Sea and the Draganesti Sea, forces on Border Protection Duty across the country's frontiers are also to take part in localised exercises in what is being dubbed the "Christ the Redeemor II Exercises", the new exercises will simulate a response to a mass invasion by hostile force(s), it will gauge response times and quality of defensive actions by the Papal Army, Navy, Air Force, Defence Corps and the Orducii, it will involve over 850,000 personnel and 10,000 vehicles, 1,200 aircraft and 240 navy vessels.

Papal Army reveals it tested fractional-orbit missile

Papal Army revealed that it has successfully tested and produced the first Rodarian missile to strike anywhere in Pardes

In a strange twist of events in what would be better found in a political thriller novel, the Papal Army has revealed that six months ago, it successfully tested a fractional-orbit missile known as the L-34A, it then tested the weapon four more times from October to January this year. The L-34A also dubbed an 'Inter-regional missile system', was designed to have no range limit due to its 'low earth orbit trajectory', allowing it to strike any other region on the planet. The missile is also the first land-based weapon made in Rodarion to cover all four corners of Pardes. The missile has three types of warheads, nuclear, chemical/biological or thermobaric. The Papal Army has heralded the successful project a 'miracle in our development as a major military power'.

A fractional-orbit missile after launch would go into a low Earth orbit and would then de-orbit for an attack. It had no range limit and the orbital flight path would not reveal the target location. This allows the Papal Army to have unlimited reach across Pardes and indeed the world, the Papal Republic has spent the past 18 years trying to develop the system with most issues being related to engines for the missile, however last year the L-34A proved to be a success, last month the L-34B was tested which now has a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) warhead, which contains up to 4 warheads and two decoys.

Speaking to reporters, the Ministry of Defence and Homeland Security spokesman, Dragu Draganescu said, "We can confirm the existance of a Rodarian fractional-orbital missile, it was successfully tested six months ago and is now being produced and in service. It is an historic milestone in the development of the Papal Republic's deterrence against hostile states using devastation weapons against us without impunity.

This announcement comes late due to the Papal Army's insistance that the programme would be fully operation prior to its announcement. Yet we can say that this announcement will send shockwaves across those who would impose upon us and violate us, this announcement will tell those states that the Papal Republic is no longer open and weak before them, but is an equal military power that will act without remorse to defend its sovereignty and right to existance upon God's earth" he said.

It is estimated that 85 of these missiles are in service already, all armed with a single 20MT thermonuclear warhead. A further 20 are in production with thermobaric warheads and chemical and biological.

The escalating tension between the Papal Republic and Arthurista took a surprising turn today as the two states very publicly unveilled extremely vital new strategic military technology within a day of each other.

Sword and shield

Yesterday, at 2321 Loweport time, the Papal Army announced that it has begun to field a new interregional ballistic missile, the L-34. Featuring the Fractional Orbital Bombardment System, similar to the Lyran Dawnbringer, Russian R-36ORB and Arthurista's own Blueflash, it is capable of attacking any target in the world regardless of range.

At 0200 today, the Arthuristan Styx Class ballistic missiile submarine APNS Sekhmet fired a single Bluesun SLBM from the interregional ocean north of Pardes, aimed at the north coast of Arthurista. Its course was soon tracked by multiple Arthuristan surveillance platforms, including satellites, land-based radars, as well as giant sea-based radars built on disused oil platforms. In due course, a Scutum anti-ballistic missile leapt off its launcher near Waterloo and sent its payload some 600km above the surface of the earth. The object in question, a kinetic energy interceptor, impacted the simulated reentry vehicle in the boundary of space and destroyed it. At 0700 this morning, the Ministry of Defence and the Arthuristan People's Air Force's Air Defence Command announced the success of the test on their websites.

New lease of life

Arthurista has long invested heavily into ballistic missile defence. The military's exact capabilities in this area are shrouded in secrecy, but it is known to have existed since the mid-60s and gradually improved ever since. In fact, the rocket used in this particular test dated from this period, with very little changes. The early systems, however, were flawed - owing to the imprecision of primitive tracking and guidance technology, the only way they could disable an inbound warhead was to use either a very heavy, multi-megaton thermonuclear warhead, or else use an 'enhanced radiation weapon' - a neutron bomb that would neutralise its target with pulse flux.

Either solution, however, would release a powerful burst of EMP in the upper atmosphere. According to Professor Frederick Wilson of the New Bristol University Faculty of Physics, "EMP will mete out extensive damage to all electronics within a very wide area. If multiple warheads were so detonated, the damage to civilian infrastructure and civilian property could be incalculable. The only thing with justified their employment was that they were, narrowly, the lesser of two evils to obliterated cities. Besides, sophisticated military hardware are usually hardened against EMP to a greater or lesser extent. In a total war scenario, it was all that mattered."

"The new KE-kill mechanism destroys the warhead with sheer physical collision. This capability only came within reach in recent years through major strides in computing, tracking and guidance technology. Even so, tremendous difficulties still exist. The interceptor must be agile enough to deal with maneouverable reentry vehicles, and smart enough to distinguish a real warhead from decoys, chaff and other red herrings. FOBS makes life a lot harder because a warhead's orbital flight path would not reveal the target location. The MIRV also makes the whole business of ballistic missile defence a thoroughly uneconomical exercise."

"Nevertheless, there are grounds for optimism with this successful test. The technology, it seems, has finally matured enough that many of the initial problems have been resolved or have been shown to be surmountable and I'm sure further improvements will be made in rapid succession in the period."

Co-incidence?

A further question remains - why did the Rodarian announcement and the BMD test happen within hours of each other? Those with a finely-honed Occam's Razor may argue that it was nothing more than serendipitous timing or sheer co-incidence. Others, who perhaps believe that the universe is rarely so lazy, may instead come to the conclusion that the Papal Army's announcement was known in advance, and the test was deliberately scheduled on that basis. This, of course, would mean that Arthuristan intelligence has somehow found a way to ferret out that piece of information, whether by a worm planted by the Government Communications Centre whizkid or a spook from the Strategic Intelligence Bureau. Either way, there is likely more to the iceberg than just the visible tip.

The Ministry of Defence has called a press conference on the BMD test this afternoon, during which more details regarding the new system will likely be released. Details about the intelligence exercise which likely preceded the test, however, would probably not be forthcoming.

Pope asks Army to prepare for the inevitable

Papal soldiers have been deployed along the borders with Itailia, Belfras and the Western Confederation since January

His Holiness the Pope has asked soldiers of the Papal Army to prepare for the inevitable show down between the Papal Republic and the CDI after the Sacred College of Cardinals recognised the CDI's failure to take up the Papal Republic's offer of a diplomatic end to the crisis. The Holy Assembly also met and voted to pass all authority regarding the Papal Armed Forces to the Sacred College and most especially the Papal Continuing Committee. Close to 450,000 troops have been deployed to the border with Belfras alone, with the Papal Army assuming control of key train stations and local airfields and airports, the same case has been seen along the border with the Western Confederation and Itailia.

In a session with the Sacred College of Cardinals, the Holy Father stated, "without any action by ourselves, the CDI has sealed off the crossroads, the turning points and side routes, they trapped us and themselves directly on the path towards hostilities. I ask the Papal Army, Navy and Air Force to prepare for the inevitable, they started this and by God's grace we shall finish it. Some say this war is just, I believe that when it does come it shall be a holy one. A modern Crusade against all that is wrong in Itailia, a Crusade to free the people of Drakkar; a Crusade for justice".

Since December, Drakkar has seen a bloody insurgency by Catholic militias who have been fighting valiantly to free Drakkar from the tyrannical rule of Pagans in Ebonaevron, since then the region has become infested with CDI occupiers, from Arthurista, West, Belfras and Emmeria. The Pope declared this a travesty and an outright violent occupation, "never before have we seen such a concentrated and coordinated subjugation of a people by some many different peoples at once, they are coordinating and working together so effeciently in denying Catholics the right to freedom within Drakkar and now they are dying for it, God damn them all".

The Papal Army spokesman, Colonel Traian Tudor said, "His Holiness asked us to prepare, we are always prepared to answer the call from the Holy Father. The CDI has rejected diplomacy and continue to brutally crush a pursuit for freedom and liberty by an oppressed majority, we will assist them, we will aid them and we will secure their freedom if we are ordered to".

Across the country, hundreds of thousands of people have attended anti-CDI rallies, there was travel disruption in Satu Mare last night, after bus workers went on strike demanding the Papal Republic destroys the CDI in Drakkar and would not return to work until the war had begun. They returned to work after briefly talking to police officers; however that was not an isolated case, we have seen hundreds of sit ins by Church groups demanding that the war begin, demanding that the governement shows strength and begin its war to liberate millions of Catholics.

Opinion within the Armed Forces is exceptionally high for action against the CDI, further pushed forward by widely reported church masses calling on the people to prepare for the coming conflict, tomorrow there is to be a nationwide mass addressing the conflict's inevitability and the Papal Republic's right to take action against the CDI which has shown nothing but aggression, ignorance and arrogance against the actions of the Papal Republic. The Papal Address, the Papal Army's newspaper has stated that the Papal Armed Forces have completed all necessary measures to protect the Papal Republic in event of war, including the deployment of long range radars and surface-to-air missiles on the abandoned oil rigs in the Draganesti Sea, as well as the deployment of long range anti-ship missiles and surface-to-air missiles on both the Draganesti coast and the eastern coast. The Foreign Ministry has urged all Rodarian nationals in CDI states to return home immediately.

There has been mass auctions on gold objects from every Cathedral and Church across the Papal Republic to private regional gold dealers, it has been reported that the money raised has been used to purchase gold reserves from both Ulthrannia and Tarsas. The Ministry of Commerce has announced a price control package for food stuffs and petrol, in efforts seen by many as a way of protecting the Rodarian economy for as along as possible against the concequences of conflict. Wide spread amature footage and photos have shown hundreds of helicopters and military aircraft flying in all directions, in a major increase in activity.
