First Loss
Well that was somewhat expected to happen, eventually. At least it was to a team ranked in the top twenty five of the world rankings, as it might have been a bit bitter tasting if it was a lesser side. They played well and held the Golden Eagles to only one goal, so I guess that’s a kind of consolation. The team will need to handle things in this next game if they are looking to stay in the middle of Group 1. Right now the Mashers are tied with points with three other teams and listed behind the Golden Eagles based on this head to head match. As for the game it was a good game and both teams played extremely even through two periods. The Mashers did a great job at containing line one of the Golden Eagles that consisted of LW Jurgis Streit (captain), C Nicolas d’Orty, and RW Ravel Smirnov (assistant captain), as that’s the line they felt would give them the most trouble. They held that line to just four shots all game and actually only gave up a respectable 24 shorts for the entire game. It was at the 13:50 mark of the third that the Golden Eagles took the lead. Ted Gilmour collected the puck behind their goal and started forward with it, passing to Volya Stroman who was just outside of their zone. Stroman passed over to Skjeggestad just keeping him onside. Skjeggestad took the puck deep into the zone and then hit Stroman on the backside for an easy goal behind Lucas Pierre Faucheux. The Mashers were unable to match that single goal by the Golden Eagles and suffered their first loss.

Goal scorers for the Vaugania:
Volya Stroman at 13:50 of the third
Goal scorers for the Mashers:
None

Again, quick game recap and now onto the final players.

Line Highlights - Goal Tenders
#30 Lucas Pierre Faucheux – Faucheux is a 28 year old from Gawkasneer and is the primary goalie for the Mashers. He plays in a hybrid style and is extremely good in crowded situations, seeming to always be able to see the puck. The only draw back he has is his stick side blocker, as for some reason his reaction on that side is a little slower than the glove hand. Both of us, hands down, have him as the teams number one goalie.

#32 Bjarte Holt – Holt is a 22 year old from Zorg and he is also a hybrid style goalie. His best attribute is in one-on-one situations where he rarely lets anything past him when one-on-one. His biggest drawback is his down ice vision as he tends to lose the puck when it’s all the way in the opposition’s zone. Griffinsmith has him as the teams number two goalie while I have him as the third.

#01 Mstislav Reznicek – Reznicek is also a 22 year old and he is from Nortal. He is a butterfly style goalie and is very good at anything low. His glove hand and blocker are about equal, but he does have some trouble with shots high and stick side. For Reznicek I have him at the number two spot for goalies while Griffinsmith has him third.

Well that does it for the team members for the Mashers; perhaps we’ll go over the penalty killing and power play units next time but now time for Howe’s Howl.

Howe’s Howl
What was that? A good game I say. We played well, maybe not our best, but still a good game by our guys. To me it was only a matter of time before one of the ranked sides handed us a loss. We did hold those Golden Eagles to minimal shots and we had a number of good series out there. I did see some tired legs after the game which tells me we gave it our all and that’s what we came here for, to give it everything we have in every game. The wins will come as we get more experience; I’m pleased with where we are right now but want at least two more wins before we head home.

Match Preview – Game 6 vs. New Koln (UR)
New Koln is an unranked unknown team, so really we don’t know what to expect. They are sitting in the second to last slot in Group 1 with a record of 0-2-3. They have scored seven and allowed double that, fourteen. So we should be able to handle this team and score a few goals.

Score Prediction – 4-0 in favor of our Mashers. The team will stay on track with a nice win over a relatively unknown side from New Koln.

Well that’s it for us today, wishing the Mashers best of luck in their second game. Brew on! Brew well Hoptonians!

Royal Hotel
St. Petrus, Saintland

The game in Royal Stadium Rink 2 pushed through, despite strong opposition from the KPMB to stage the game at other venue. The result? A 4-4 tie with the Perlasilangani punks. As a result, the coaching staff of the Snipers met to discuss their future action.

Upon coach Jonas' arrival in the room, he saw bags packed up, particularly those of the players. He immediately asked the staff, "What sorcery is this?"

"Sir, Pedrito ordered us to withdraw from the WCoH as soon as possible. They will bring in a team of amateurs, and actually they are already in their flight to Saintland in six hours, so we have to leave or else, we have to pay fees for overcapacity."

"But..."

"Sir, I understand that you desire to continue. But it's hard to cross the Gran Supremo nowadays. So we better have to leave."

"...OK, I got it."

Within four hours, the entire team left the hotel, with regrets all over, as The Royal Barangay is languishing at the middle of the pack and looked hopeless for their playoff hopes.

St. Petrus Airport

Aerolineas Sangti flight SG 8602 from Sangti is now arriving...

The PA announcement confirmed the arrival of the replacements for the national team. The players were anxious to see who will take their place for the remaining four games of the WCoH. And...

...they were bunch of clowns and entertainers. Complete with their clown suits, the people from the plane approached the team. A neat looking person, in a maroon trench coat, approached coach Jonas.

"Hello there, I am Rigodero B., and here are Los Payasos, complete with clown clothing. Don't worry though, they have little experience in the sport, but completely adept in ice skating."

"is this some kind of a joke?" Coach Brian was agitated when he realized the fact that these clowns would actually represent The Royal Barangay in future matches.

"No, sir. Sir Pedrito and the Gran Supremo ordered us to go here and play some hockey. Anyway, the flight back to Sangti is boarding, you should go now."

And as the national team made its way back to the capital, the clowns, carrying heavy luggage and some boxes, proceeded to the Customs office and took several hours just to put their equipment through the tedious process of inspection. A customs personnel asked, "Sir, are you performers for the World Cup of Hockey?"

"No. We are the National Team of The Royal Barangay."

For unknown reasons, the new team was allowed entry to the country, and arrived in the hotel around one hour before their debut.

OOC: Roster concealed for now. Will post it later. Also setting RP Permissions to extreme levels (killing included) and Style adjusted to maximum allowable.

World Cup of Hockey XXIII - Havl 5, Lzherusskia 1

St. Augustinus – It was business as usual for the three-time defending champions Monday night as #1-ranked Havl defeated upstart Lzherusskia 5-1 at the Civitate Dei Arena. After starting the tournament with two wins (including a big upset that sent the Royal Kingdom of Quebec into a tailspin), the Lzher squad has suffered three straight losses. "They've been playing well," said Havl head coach Patricia Donofrio before Monday's game. "Their two losses have been by one goal, so they've been keeping up and playing strong."

The game marked Havl's second at the Civitate Dei Arena, the smallest of the Saintland venues in this edition of the World Cup of Hockey. Traditionally used for concerts, Civitate Dei is now being used for its original purpose: hosting sporting events. "It's a great place," said Havl defenseman Brian Beierle. "It's relatively small, and the fans are close, so you can really hear them cheering and reacting to the game." Beierle, a member of the University of Havl's championship teams in the early 2000s, was reminded of playing at the university's Dimm Hockey Hall. "It's a lot like [Dimm]," said Beierle. "It has that 'college feel' to it."

Image
Justin Donndelinger scored the game-winning goal in the first period.

Havl's Firing Squad started the game with a blaze of offense as linemates Jason State and team captain Justin Donndelinger both scored on the line's first shift. Winger Martin Klerx moved the team to a three-goal lead with a one-timer late in the first period. The second period saw Havl go up 5-0 on first goals from Juna Mossil and veteran winger Taro Tsujimoto. Goaltender Davis Rich looked to be en route to his elusive first shutout of the tournament before giving up a rebound to winger Slava Menshikov. "It's tough, yeah," said Rich. "You can't complain when we're 5-0, but, still, you never want to give up a goal. I'm not chasing after records or anything; just trying to win games."

For the fifth time in as many games, the defending champions faced a new opponent. "It's what we've come to expect for this World Cup," said Donofrio. "Typically, we only see three or maybe four, maximum, teams that we've played before, and that's counting the playoffs." Once again, Donofrio was able to coax offense out of multiple lines, with all four offensive trios finding the net against Lzerusskia. When Havl winger Taro Tsujimoto scored late in the second, he received a standing ovation from his teammates on the bench. "That was a nice moment," said Donofrio. "Taro is a grinder, and it's fun to celebrate when he knocks one in. Obviously, we don't want to be obnoxious in celebrating a goal that puts us ahead by three or four goals, but it was a special moment for [Tsujimoto]."

With the win, Havl maintains the lead of the Group 6 standings over 21st-ranked Svengarda. Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XXIII continues on HTVM Tuesday evening as Havl faces Svengarda live from Via Damascus Stadium.

Wolverines defeat Sel Appa in final seconds
Marco Larbon -- SAINTLAND

The Wolverines were lucky in their win against Sel Appa during their most recent game of Group play during the 23rd World Cup of Hockey hosted by Saintland. The 57th ranked Sel Appa team held the Wolverines to only one goal on 22 shots during the first 58 minutes and 32 seconds of the game, but fortunately for the Anditon Wolverines and head coach Mario Grappo, it was during the last minute 28 seconds that actually counted.

"Its always great when you can force a score in late." Coach Grappo commented following the game "[Jarls] Mikku was just making himself known infront of the net. It really allowed Samm [D'Aura] to sneak around the backdoor and shove one in down low. It was a true shocker to their tender, but sometimes its the shocker that really gets things going- if you know what I mean."
Following a few early penalties to Kyle Pane, to open the third period, it was truly the net-crashing actions of Mikku that allowed D'Aura to score late. Consistent goaltending by Corwin Bovul allowed the Wolverines to hold on. During the game, Bovul only allowed the one goal on 17 shots - a deflection from the point during the opening minutes of the second period. The game itself was more a game of defense and positioning rather than the more open game that the Wolverines had played during their previous game (a 5-6 loss).

Following 5 games, the Wolverines stats look decent with Capitan Nestor Van Ryk leading in goal scoring (5 goals, 7 assists); Samm D'Aura leading in Assists (3 goals, 8 assists); Jarls Miku leading in +/- (+7) and tough-man Phillip Mys leading in penalty minutes (32 minutes).

With 4 more games remaining in group play, look for Anditia to split (2-1-1 with wins agains Saintland and Florgania; Tie with Equestrian States and a loss to Ko-oren).

Queen Cassie to resign?
By Heather Billings, Political Analyst, Concord Heights Times

With Her Highness celebrating her 80th birthday next week, many have begun to wonder if it is time for Queen Cassie to pass over the crown to her next of female kin, Princess Courtney. This is a very sensitive subject whenever it has been discussed, and when one looks at what the Queen has done for this country, there would seem to be no reason for her to step down. The economy continues to flourish as the nation has the perfect balance between rights of big business, small business, and the everyday consumer. She has played a major role in bringing Cassadaigua to become one of the more well known nations in Rushmore, and the list of prestigious sporting tournaments in which she has brought here is extremely impressive. The Queen has never really talked about resignation all that much, although according to sources with connections to the palace, it does seem as though the Queen is at least talking about, and may be preparing Princess Courtney now. The source was quoted as saying, “Since the assassination of King Paulus of Saintland, a leader in which she had just met in person a month before the killing, the Queen has been doing a lot of talking internally about wondering if it is indeed time for her to move on, as well. Princess Courtney has been much more difficult to get a hold of over the last couple weeks, because she has been spending far more time with her mother then I have ever seen before. It’s going beyond the normal mother-daughter relationship lately.”

It makes for an interesting discussion throughout the country. Unlike other nations which have elections to determine leaders, such a royal passing on of the crown is something that will happen once, maybe twice in our lifetimes. There is no one, other then the same people who criticize her over anything, anyway, who feels as though the Queen has to resign, but as she gets older and enters her 80's, it is believed that concern of her age would become more apparent, even though she is, right now, in great health. It is very beneficial, of course, for the transition to occur while the Queen is still alive, so that she can be of a mentor to her daughter as she assumes this huge responsibility.

Princess Courtney is the second oldest of the Queen’s four kids, but is the oldest female and therefore the heir to the throne. While some would probably hope that the 46-year old (though not looking a day over 30) Princess would lead the nation to become more modernized in some cultural aspects, they figure to be disappointed, especially if her mother is still watching over everything. The Princess is a graduate of Concord Heights Beauty School, and has served on the school’s Board of Directors for the last eight years. While the school has always been recognized as the leader in vanity and elegance throughout Cassadaigua, within the last couple decades, it has been considered to be equally prestigious as the University of Concord Heights, itself. Outside of that she has made a handful of motivational speeches at various high schools, colleges, and troubled economic areas. While her mother has been active in bringing sports to the nation, she has rarely attended any sporting event, and when she does, she is rarely still there at the finish. This is one thing that you can be certain would be different about Princess Courtney, as she is very passionate about sports and figures to attend as many games as possible, while perhaps, her husband, Prince Kevin, or her older brother, Prince Christopher, attend to duties back at home. The Princess has 5 kids, 3 of which are female, ranging from 23 to 11. The oldest daughter, Caitlyn, is 21.

The only international sport going on right now in which Cassadaigua is participating in, is the World Cup of Hockey, although there is a group of men doing something in Garundia for TV ratings. The World Baseball Classic is anticipated to be starting soon. With that then, there is no shortage of opportunities for the Princess to start making international visits to other lands, though Saintland would not be a logical first choice. The hockey team is coming off a win, and actually a pretty entertaining one that saw then turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 victory with two goals, both by Hannah Tremblay, in the closing 2:41 of the game. The team is currently 2-3-0, and tied for 2nd in Group 1. For more coverage of that, head to the sports section.

Of course, all this resignation talk could just be speculation anyway. While it would be a fun joke for the Queen to place on all of us, I’m sure, it just seems like it’s going to be happening, and it will be soon.

(OOC: Just tryin' someting) This is basically a TV show which talks about Ice Hockey and knows nothing about Ice Hockey

Welcome to the...ICE HOCKEY SHOW

"Hi, you join me, Varni Lausannen, and this week we are discussing the Ice Hockey World Cup, in which Svengarda are currently competing. I've got loads of guests, including National Team Captain August Nyström, but with us first is Ice Hockey blogger and Fast-Food joint fry-cook, Jarmo Jennen. Jarmo, how are the Ice Hockey players doing for our country today?"

"Well, they're doing quite well Varni, they've won three of their 5 games, which means they have often, but not always, skated harder than their opponents and scored more goals than them"

"I can imagine that the boys have been doing a lot of skating over the last few days"

"Yes, skating is an integral part of Ice Hockey. They say 'If you can't skate, you probably shouldn't be playing Hockey'."

"Haha, yes. You mentioned that they've scored more goals than some teams, is that important?"

"Very. If you score more goals than your opponent, you'll probably win the game"

"Right, right. And we've done that?"

"Three times"

"Excellent. It must be quite hard to hit the ball when you're skating around on the ice like that, how do they find it."

"The ball, or the puck as some of the inner-circle guys call it, is pretty small, so the guys have a tough job of getting it into the goal, and that's why there are so few goals in games. Ekki Lundquist is leading the way with 6 goals scored, but captain Nystrom is close behind with 4 goals."

"We defeated Hicana 5-0 in the last game, and by the sounds of it, that's very good."

"Yes, very. We skated very well, hit the, er, puck, very well and overall our players did a good job: scoring five and conceding zero goals. The keeper must've had a pretty boring day then."

"Haha, yes"

"We'll be back after the advert break, where we'll be discussing more hockey..."

Success!

Martin Granger, Staff Reporter

We called for the defense to step up, especially goalie Andrés Kelly, and they did so. Yttribia are by no means world-beaters, but they were undefeated until last night, when the Lions stifled their offense en route to a 1-0 victory. 1-0 is hardly impressive, but considering that this is the first shutout for the Lions, when they had several in WCoH 22, this is an important event and a great first step back on the road to respectability. Also of note from last night was that the Lions committed just three penalties, showing the disciplined hockey we have come to expect of them and that was so sorely missed earlier in this World Cup.

The first period was scoreless, though not for lack of trying by either side, as the Lions racked up 14 shots and Yttribia 12. Kelly made three saves on one possession, including snaring a rocket from just a few feet away and melting it down to end the onslaught. Kermit Lea very nearly notched another goal when his wrister clanged off the post at 5:16, and Troy Parker crashed the net late in the period, taking the net of its moorings, but failing to score a goal. The second period saw Yttribia open super-aggressively, controlling possession and firing six shots in four minutes, all of which Kelly was able to block. Kelly would face just three more shots in the period as the defense really buckled down, stopping passes and blocking five shots with their bodies. At 14:27 of the period, veteran defenseman Roger Day poked the puck away from an Yttribian forward, then passed it forward to Jordan Bergeron leaking out. Bergeron skated swiftly down the ice, evaded the stick check of the Yttribian defenseman, then fired a missile past the opposing goaltender to give the Lions a slim 1-0 lead. The third period saw the Lions tighten their grip on victory, despite the fact that they could not score another goal. They controlled possession effectively and racked up 10 shots to Yttribia's 6. When the final horn sounded, the relief was palpable. The Lions had survived and kept their slim hopes alive.

Next up for the Lions is the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, whose senior team is ranked 10th in the world. However, the Lions will not be facing the senior team, but rather the U20 team. The senior team had sustained too many injuries to make playing practical, and also had jeopardized the team's domestic hockey league. Their place was taken by the U20 side, who lost in the quarterfinals of the most recent World Junior Hockey Championship. The U20 Ice Knights have lost no time, scoring nine goals in their first two matches. The bad news is that they have also allowed nine goals, resulting in two ties against unranked sides. The Lions will have to play disciplined hockey and force the younger team into grievous errors. The U20 side is talented, but Nova Anglicana needs to win this game, since they dodged the bullet of facing the senior team.

The visit from Laborious Hawk had been something entirely unexpected and motivational for the entire team. The way he spoke to all of the team members about belief in ones self and the courage it took to represent the country, it had lifted the entire team up. I heard him though, when he took the captain and the vice captains to the side, supposedly out of ear shot from the rest of the team. I had not meant to eavesdrop, I was simply doing my routine before the game, getting some stretching in loosening up for the game ahead. All the same, the way he spoke to them and the words that he gave them, it had a very noted affect on our leaders.

That was the point I think, since everywhere the man has gone he has become a leader and one of the best people to ever grace that club. It is one thing to be a great player, many individuals out there are very great players, able to do things in their respective sports that leave their opposition and audiences in complete and utter awe. We call them stars or superstars of the sport, we honor them when they end their careers with "Hall of Fame" spots and so forth. Yet to also be a great person, to take such hefty responsibility, to take the high ground, to be an example for every man, woman, and child to follow is something special.

I am not going to suggest that any of our three captains are going to turn into the next Laborious Hawk but on ice, that would be preposterous. Yet there has been a noted difference in how the trio have approached the team since that meeting and how they have approached themselves. It is as if they no longer can accept failure for themselves as an option, that they have to be putting in all of their effort all of the time. It mirrors what he said to them, as they have been burdened with such a great task, to be a team leader. They are not allowed to falter or else they will bring down all of us along with them, it is not just a title but a badge that they must wear and wear proudly. They have been tasked with leading all of us to great glory and if there is to be success in that, the unit as a whole must be cohesive, which starts with our leaders and trickles down.

The man is a legend for good reason, we needed all those words of wisdom the legendary Marauder captain gave us. Each of us can feel the meaning and depth of the words resonating within ourselves, as we set out minds and bodies to the task at hand. Our leaders further more, becoming the living embodiment of honor, dignity, leadership, and the mantle of responsibility. Perhaps we will ultimately fall short of winning another championship, that task does ask much from each and every one of us and our opposition as well, but there shall be no failure. If we learn from such shortcomings, we will be the better for it and have taken in lessons rather than lament in defeat. Perhaps that is the vantage point that creates men the likes of which Hawk belongs to...

Crazy Pups Lose with Interim Head Coach

Saintland - At the World Cup of Hockey, Middleton Valley already having lost their Head Coach, Today S. Hopeless, due to poisoning earlier in the day, loses to The Fair Republic, 4-2. After the game, right wing for the Crazy Pups, Gregory Unalmighty had this to say, "we gave it our best shot. We were all beat by the second period after a very emotional twenty-four hours. What we need to do is to go and get a good night's rest. We are going to be facing a very tough Neu Engollon tomorrow and we need to do well. Coach has already given us tomorrow morning off and has decided to close the locker room to the media prior to the game. We are all on edge with the events of the past couple of days, but we need to stay strong and keep scoring. I expect the team to be ready for the game tomorrow." Unalmighty, who has been a target of an attack by Gregoryisgodistan earlier in the competition, has been Middleton Valley's top scorer in the competition so far.

As for Head Coach Today S. Hopeless, he is still classified as in critical condition and is not expected to be travelling with the team to the Olympics in a few weeks.

From Worse To Worst (Almost)

The Eagles had no explanation for a lack of goals against the Crystal Empire, they had more than multiple chances and still ended up with a nothing to nothing tie. Jacob Anders had a mere nine total shots during the games.

The buzzer that ended war ups was quickly followed by the first drop of the puck. At first it was an interesting draw for about two minutes, that was before a surge on the behalf of the Hessians. The surge lasted for four minutes and involved two pipe shots, no goals were scored. The Eagles continued to play aggressively throughout the period, with no score to show.

The second period was more or less a replica of the first, many opportunities deserving of goals and none to be heard of. The eventful close shots were one that skidded across the entirety of the red line and was missed by the goalie, and a wide open shot that ended up hitting the post by Frederick Crow. The Crystal Empire came up with an impressive shot which Jacob Anders, from the experience of the first few games, saved in a decent fashion. He had almost nothing to contest from thence on.

The third period was the last chance for the Eagles to get on the board and earn their first win. As in almost every game, they fought valiantly and to an impressive extent, however the clearings of the Crystal Empire avoided them from going any further. The final result was one of utmost disappointment and somewhat respect for the Crystal Empire, whom were able to endure three periods against them.

The Eagles are coming up against Falcus in their last Group Stage game at The Road To Damascus. The nation of Falcus lies right in the middle of the standings and have a goal differential of nothing. The Eagles are holding onto dear life for a simple win. They want to make the best impression they can for the upcoming Olympics.

Flashback-Hockeymas Carol(8)
July 1st, 2007
Somewhere in McCowan Highway, Nord-Est, Quebec

Soo Myeon just stared into the night sky as a bus was on middle of highway, leading them to the middle of nowhere in Northern Quebec. He was on his way to the getaway that Hockey Quebec provides annually for the major Junior prospects, which was to be held in a very small town at Northern Quebec, 1,700 kilometres away from his hometown of Montreal. George Williams, his grandfather, recommended him about going to this getaway. At the time he didn't want to lose his shape after a wonderful campaign as a rookie, and agreed to go in heartbeat. For first two months he felt extremely excited

But right now he was somewhat mixed over the getaway. While it would help him improve his conditioning ahead of another season, he didn't really feel that happy over it. He became disinterested. All he wanted was to just be by her side, as he very well knew that Anne was going to stay in Montreal. He very well knew that even there he will not play up to the best. His mind was inundated with thoughts of Anne, not hockey. Hockey and desire to exceed his grandfather's legacy always drove him on-ice, but even then they seemed to be put a temporary stop at the might of love. He knew how love can make someone blind, and it seemed as if the same thing is happening to him.
Why did I even decide to do it, Soo Myeon?

Then something hit right at him. It was his senses of worry and insecurity over Anne, who's still in Montreal as said earlier. He very well knew the danger of having to stay for 2 weeks in middle of wilderness, without any news or info regarding the girl he loves. Out of his insecurity he quickly checked his cellphone. He unexpectedly received a message from one of his closer friends, Laurent Bismarck. This is strange,Soo Myeon thought to himself. He never texts me, preferring to call me instead. Feeling strange he opened the message:

From: Laurent Bismarck
Time: 9 minutes ago
There's some rumour spreading around Anne back home. Idk who's the exact source of this, but it's not good.

At that moment he cringed a bit. He well knew what this meant. A rumor, in his opinion, could mean so much more than the grain of truth it normally brings. Right at that moment his mind flew away into multitude of questions, with its speed as fast as a TGV. What would be it? Is she sick or kidnapped? Or got together with Stefan or other guy that I never knew he would be the one? Several sides of his mind threw questions and other things, as this 16-year old Korean Canadian read the text over and over again........

Toucans Draw Transalpine Republic Stay in 3rd

Postby The Fair Republic » Tue Feb 11, 2014 6:44 pm

"All right boys listen up!" Wayne Rechyichch throws a helmet against a locker with such force that plastic shatters everywhere. The players get the message, he is pissed. "What the hell was that? Hockey? Please we should have won that game and you know it! You were lazy and content with a 2 goal lead after one period. We came out with no energy what so ever the final two periods and to be frank, I think we were grateful just to get the tie. Now Marco." Wayne pointed at the captain who was nursing a bloody nose after he got into another fight today making it 6 fights in as many games. "Get your head out of your ass and stop getting into worthless fights. If we end up playing Gregoryisgodistan get into fights to protect our players but they are not Gregoryisgodistan so focus on scoring goal for gods sake. Now get some sleep! Your think I'm pissed now? Wait and see if you don't come out with 100% effort tomorrow!"

Florgania Steady in World Cup of Hockey

With the population at home paying little attention to the Hockey World Cup, this article may be quite a surprise to most. In its first ever international competition, the semi-professional squad representing Florgania has put on quite the spectacle. While no one is in Saintland representing the team, they are certainly one of the most talked about squads in the tournament. After their stunning 3-1 opening win over the host country, Saintland, many people credited Florgania's squad with luck and concluded that they certainly could not keep it up for the entire tournament. However, with a record of 2-2-1, Florgania is still very much a challenger in the 3rd group. Below is a brief summary of the action in Saintland to catch up the uninformed masses back home.

Match-day 1: Saintland 1 Florgania 3

Florgania played in its first ever international match to open up the tournament against the host country and 23rd ranked team in the world. The atmosphere at Royal Stadium was wild as the game began. There were virtually no supporters from Florgania that had made the trip. What unravelled that day was nothing shy of remarkable. Thanks in part to goals by Danny Eisenreich, Dan Dygert, and Tom Lee, Florgania prevailed in marvelous fashion. While many would point that it was nothing but luck, opening the tournament in this manner as an unranked and unheard of country was the cause of much discussion for many days. This single game will go down in the history books as one of Florgania's brightest moments in sport.

Match-day 2 Florgania 2–2 Howdeellow

The second game was a hard fought match against a fellow unranked opponent, Howdeellow. Despite two quick goals from Andy Robinson and Tim Melton, the squad was not able to live up to its instant and overnight fame their previous win provided them with. The team sat in 3rd place with a record of 1-1-0 at the end of the second day.

Match-day 3 Kinzar 0–0 Florgania

Florgania put on a poor show against unranked Kinzar. After this scoreless effort, many began to think that Florgania's lucky well had run dry. Whatever the cause was for this draw, The team needed to get its act together before it faced a competitive Estope squad. After match-day 3, Florgania stood at 1-2-0 in 5th place.

Match-day 4 Florgania 2–3 Estope

Florgania took on the 22nd ranked team in the world in Estope who didn't seem to know what they had coming. Paul Gardner scored an early goal but Florgania soon found themselves down 2-1. Tim Melton scored to knot the game at 2 a piece before a controversial call by a referee resulted in Estope's game winning goal. Florgania coach Bob Schueler was irate and no one could explain the logic of the call. With their first loss, Florgania fell to 6th in their group with a record of 1-2-1.

Match-day 5 Westbridge 1–2 Florgania

A win was much welcomed on the fifth day of competition when Florgania faced off against unranked Westbridge. George Gautreau scored early for Florgania, but Westbridge tied the score at 1 minutes later. Dan Dygert netted his second goal of the tournament to secure the win. The win placed Florgania back in 4th place behind Estope and a record of 2-2-1.

Match-day 6 Florgania 1–1 Sel Appa

Florgania took a disappointing draw with 57th ranked Sel Appa on the sixth day of competition. Despite Paul Gardner's fantastic goal in the second period, not many bright reflections can be drawn from the match. Florgania fell back to 5th in their group and now currently sit with a 2-3-1 record.

Upcoming matches:

MD7: vs. Anditia (UR)
MD8: vs. Equestrian States (13)
MD9: vs. Ko-oren (33)

The upcoming schedule is going to be a rough one for Florgania. Match-day seven is a crucial match against 4th place Anditia. Match-day eight is a classic David-Goliath match as Florgania takes on 13th ranked Equestrian States. The final match for Florgania is against first place and the 33rd ranked team, Ko-oren. Florgania must prove everyone wrong once again to continue in this tournament. No matter what the end result is in Saintland, Florgania hockey is on the map and our recently informed citizens should be ecstatic about it.

"Wow, what a day in tennis it was. It's not everyday that a complete unknown beats the world number one. We'll be following all the matches again tomorrow on all 14 of the ESN networks. That's about all the time we have for tonight. Thanks for watching..."

"Bob, you forgot about hockey."

"and we'll let you go after we tell you in minimal detail about the hockey team. As in flash the score across the screen."

Saintland 0–1 Estope
@ Royal Square Garden
Next vs Howdeellow

"Yep after what pretty much everyone who watched agree was one of the most boring game in the history of sports Estope was able to comeback and win a game against the hosts. Personally I'm glad to have missed this one. A 1-0 game doesn't sound much better. And just a warning, tomorrow the Estope-Howdeellow game will be aired at 9:30 so you want to be sure and avoid this channel if possible. We apologize for this inconvenience but we are contractually obligated to show it. And that ends our show. Goodnight Estope."

"And that's a wrap. Great job Bob."

"Thanks. Do we have to mention hockey every night? It's bringing back bad memories of 0-0 draw."

"Yep we are obligated to. But you're doing so good you'll get moved up to ESN 13 and no longer have to cover the worst sports. You do a great job covering tennis and that's popular right now."

"I do love tennis. Hopefully that promotion will come soon enough."

"Look. That's Mark Edwards, executive of ESN, he never comes to see us. There must be some good news."

"Hey Bob."

"Hi Mr. Edwards."

"I've got some great news for you. We're sending you to Saintland to do your show from there. The hockey team has done pretty good thus far and we need to boost it's popularity. Plus my five year old son says he likes hockey now so I think we should try to push it some more. We're hoping that doing your show there will boost interest in the sport and make for better ratings."

"Are you sure? My show doesn't really attract all that many viewers so it probably wouldn't help much."

"You're too modest. You have an entire 73 viewers on average a night. That's 52 more than tuned into today's game against Saintland! It'll be great, you leave tonight. Do a good job there and the ESN 13 anchorman job is yours."

"Great thanks for this wonderful opportunity. I'll pack right away."

"Hello, I'm Karl Demais and I come to you live from Saintland and the 23rd edition of the World Cup of Hockey. It is astounding to some fans that the Ibex of Neu Engollon have made it as far as they have in this Cup, where they have done so poorly before in the last couple Cups. Despite promises to resign, perhaps it is fortuitous that Coach Le Houne stayed on with the team and has led them like a man on fire recently.
The last bout was a victory against top ranked Middleton Valley, and two games before that, they did the same, with another one point lead kept on Falcus. The 3-3 draw against the Mohawk Clans was a stunner, but when have the Ibex not surprised us?

Is it the brute force and intimidation of Primo Delmasso? The deft skill of Manon or Sameaux to hit that corner every time? Or possibly its the tenacity and stealth of Remy Velper and Ernst Vokzein, who can snatch a puck like a Burgunden pickpocket and keep feeding them out to the center like an assembly line?

All we know is that they have plowed through to climb in their group to the spot under the Avatarians, and we are damn glad they did. Neu Engollon, with all the troubles in Astyria now, needs something to take their minds away and they have been sports crazed lately. It helps that the rugby team has done so well in that domestically hosted Cup, and now, the Ibex. Who are not even close to out of the woods yet, mind you, but they're looking good going into their match with Trans Alpine Republic tomorrow. We will have the game on delay here on NETV Sports 7, please be sure to tune in early for the previews and analysis with former player Rocky Geldino. Good night, Neu Engollon!"

Transcript of Martyrs' Day Observances from Capital Distrct

Lord Almighty Greogry: "Good evening, ladies, gentlemen and slaves. I hope your Martyrs' Day has been memorable so far. Tonight, we will be holding an observance and memorial for the brave and noble martyrs of our country, especially those who have sacrificed themselves in the last year. First, let us start with a moment of silence for all the martyrs who have died in the name of Gregoryisgodistan. Anyone who so much as coughs will be executed along with their family."

(In the audience, a man sneezes. Guards seize him and the people next to him. Everyone else is silent.)

Lord Almighty Gregory: "Thank you. Tonight, we are here to honor all those who have died while supporting Gregoryisgodistan, especially those who have died in the last year. First, let us remember Enemy Crusher Samuel "Porky" von Porker. This brave and noble hero was executed in Free Republics simply for doing his job. He crushed enemies in the name of Gregoryisgodistan. However, the wicked Sheriff Akram demanded he be executed for his bravery. He was simply too brave and noble to survive in Free Republics. His memory shall be immortal. May he be blessed in heaven and the world to come."

(The crowd applauds. A picture of Enemy Crusher Samuel "Porky" von Porker flashes on the screen.)

Lord Almighty Gregory: "I now invite this hero's wife, Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Michelle Albin-von Porker, and their daughter, Youth VIP Henrietta von Porker, to accept a medal in memory of their loved one.

(Those two walk up and take the medal from Lord Almighty Gregory.)

Lord Almighty Gregory: "Thank you. Next up, we have six brave martyrs to honor at once. The Ice Slaves six, full of enemy crushers who simply attempted to crush the wicked Republican players. They killed Porky, so they had to die. But the Sanctii authorities did not recognize the legitimacy of their actions and executed them for their heroics. For that, they are true martyrs who must be honored eternally. They shall all receive one award, as the Ice Slaves Six. These brave men are nemy Crusher Douglas Porkerson, Enemy Crusher Fatty McPorkawitz, Enemy Crusher Foofoo McTootles, Enemy Crusher Biggy McParis, Enemy Crusher Funny McBigfries and Enemy Crusher Quarreltine Thomas. They shall be honored in our memory eternally. Enemy Crusher Biggy McParis was especially heroic in his death, causing the gallows in St. Petrus to collapse under his weight and delaying the deaths of his compatriots. For that, he shall be especially honored eternally. Their memories will be in our minds for all eternity. Let us applaud these brave and noble heroes."

(The crowd all stands and applauds, except for one man with no hands. He is taken aside along with his family and executed for not cheering loud enough.)

Lord Almighty Gregory: "Our last martyr that we are honoring this evening is Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes. This brave and noble hero planted a solar powered bomb that killed a Hicanan player with a name so blasphemous even I will not speak it. This man's name blasphemed against me, the true Lord, and for that, he had to die. Indeed, he did. Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes also poisoned the coach of our archenemy, Middleton Valley, although according to reports, the coach has not yet died. Regardless, Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes was executed in Saintland for murder and attempted murder, even though those killings were committed in the name of Gregoryisgodistan. For that, he is a brave hero. His memory will last for eternity."

(There is a loud round of applause.)

Lord Almighty Gregory: "Here to accept a medal of honor on behalf of Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes is his wife, Government VIP's Spouse Lana Hayes, and their son, Youth VIP Louis Hayes. Come up, guys."

(The three of them come up. Notably, Youth VIP Louis Hayes is less than one year old and is being held in his mother's arms.
Lord Almighty Gregory: "You may notice that Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes had a baby boy. "Louie Gooey," as Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes affectionately called his son, was the pride and joy of his life. In fact, when given the assignments to kill the player and coach, Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes' superior officer said that carrying out the deed would be the proudest moment of his life. While this would certainly be true for most Secret Police Agents, this one was different. He said that killing the blasphemous player and enemy coach would only rank second on his proudest moments of all time. As his superior officer reported to me, Secret Police Agent Cliff Hayes said that being there when he son was born was, and would always remain, the proudest moment of his life. I know Lou is not old enough to understand what is happening right now, but I am having this videotaped so when he is old enough, he knows that his father loved not only his country and the Lord, but his family as well. Let's have one final moment of silence to remember all these martyrs."

(There is a moment of silence. Someone scratches an itch and makes a sound. Guards seize her along with her family and they are executed.)

Lord Almighty Gregory: "Thank you. I want to once more express my own gratitude to these martyrs. They are brave and noble heroes who I shall reward in the world to come. Thank you for attending. Good night."

AGAIN…
Well all we seem to do is tie and it doesn’t matter who we play, when we play, or where we play. Lets give the side from New Koln some credit, shall we. They played well and kept the game close, it was just a simple mistake in the third that allowed the tie to even happen. Yes a mistake that should never have happened. After the Mashers went up 1-0 in the first from an amazing slap shot from Ruslan Bogomolov, it actually tore the netting and we had a bit of a delay while the fixed it. Yes that was nice, wasn’t it? But, those last three minutes of the game for the defenders to try and maintain possession in their own end was worrisome. Jokinen for some reason decided it was a good idea to pass the puck across the goal face and it just happened to hit Faucheux skate and go right to the center for New Koln, not sure of his name but it was an easy goal for sure and ended the game in a 1-1 draw. There were some good sighs from the Mashers though, at many points in the game they controlled things and New Koln didn’t even touch the puck for a full eight minutes in the second. Yes that was some good possession by the Mashers, they just couldn’t get it past the New Koln goalie that seemed to just sit there and take up the entire mouth of the goal. Lets just look past this latest tie and see if we can muster up enough to do the same or better against the side from Cassadaigua. Which we heard they are getting a new queen as the crown will be passed from Queen Cassie to her next of female kin Princess Courtney. We’ve also been told that Winston Churschmidt will be in attendance at the grand ceremony, which should be a very elegant gala. We don’t know yet if it will be during, before, or sometime after the Mashers game with them but perhaps this might distract the ladies in pink from the actual game and we can come away with a win. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Quick recap, quick look ahead, now what’s next? Right, Penalty Killing.

Line Highlights – Penalty Killing units
We won’t go so much into detail about individual players as merely letting you know who’s on what line when it comes to killing penalties.

Bruiser Line
This 4v5 penalty killing unit has both of the Bogomolov brothers on it, Ruslan Bogomolov and Prokopiy Bogomolov as they simply are the best when it comes to the penalty kill and defense for that matter. The other two that make up the quartet are right winger Filat Yaroslav Matveev and left winger Hartley Samuelson. These two might not be the best right and left wings on the team but they are great at killing penalties, blocking shots and otherwise disrupting the attack of the opposition. This group truly is a great foursome when they are on the ice and rarely give up power play goals to the other team.

Crusher Line
Next we have our 3v4 or 3v5 penalty killers, so at any point the Mashers are stuck with just three on the ice you’ll find these guys. First we have the Bogomolov brothers again, what else can we say about them they know what they are doing and do it well. The last man in the trio is Robert Knutsen, the teams captain. He is just about even with the two wingers on the four man killing unit and could very well replace one of them if needed. Knutsen simply knows the game and reads the oppositions attack very well. He is also seen as the outlet when either of the Bogomolov brothers have the puck. We don’t see this unit on the ice very often as the team plays very clean, but when they are on the ice they don’t give up goals, period.

Howe’s Howl
Are you kidding me, another tie, for god sake can we freakin win for once. These unranked sides should be easy wins for us, and yes I realize we are unranked and the ranked teams we tie would say the same about us, but come on we’ve got to do better. We put 42 shots on that New Koln goalie and kept the puck from them for a full eight minutes straight isn’t that some kind of record. Eh, I guess it only matters if we win, which we did not. At least we got a point out of it and stayed in the mix of our group, but if we expect anything out of this we need to win our last few games.

Match Preview – Game 7 vs. Cassadaigua (29)
Cassadaigua a side with mixed results so far has two wins, four ties, and no losses. They are currently ranked number twenty nine in the world and the ladies in pink should be a side that hands the Mashers their second loss, though we hope we can pull out at least a tie. They can play in any condition and have been doing so for years. Who will be the key to their success? We’re not sure, maybe newcomer Tara Mercier on line one or maybe it will be Jessica Shaw, a spitting image of her coaches play style from the checking line and also the teams’ alternate captain. Will it be their defensive units that get the best of HopNation, with players like Travis Curry or Jacques Allard. We’ll have to see how things play out and what the pairings with our lines look like in this one.

Score Prediction – 4-3 in favor of the ladies in pink, Cassadaigua.

Well that’s it for us today, wishing the Mashers best of luck in their second game. Brew on! Brew well Hoptonians!

Reshetnikov: "We're Not Out Of It Yet"
Maineiacs Pull Off Dramatic Third-Period Rally To Complete Comeback

Andrej Reshetnikov appears to be rapidly wearing out his welcome.

After the blissful honeymoon period, Lzherusskia are sliding on a four-game losing streak and while they aren't mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, the circumstances in which we progress out of the group are so vanishingly unlikely as to be impossible. Havl's shock defeat to Svengarda means that those two teams now have the inside track to progress 1-2 from the group and although some of the third-place finishers will progress to the play-in stage, the chance of a team from Group 6 being one of those finishers is growing less likely by the day.

Most gallingly, the team's most obvious weak spot - the performance of the defense in our own zone - was vastly improved on the five games previous, with Maineiacs being held to 23 shots and kept to only fourteen through the first two periods and, at the risk of editorialising, if August Pokrovski had been given the start rather than Vojislav Krasnoperov, it seems likely we would now be 3-0-3 rather than 2-0-4 and in third place rather than eighth. In spite of his fine work relieving Pokrovski against Havl, Krasnoperov looked shaky throughout and was beaten three times in the third period, twice by Maineiacs captain Mike Foster, as the unranked team played spoiler to our best-laid plans.

Maybe we're guilty of letting ourselves get carried away a bit but, after upsetting two teams both ranked much higher than ours, there was valid reason to believe that yes, we were capable of well at this tournament - maybe not qualifying for the playoffs, but certainly staying in the running. And there have been very distinct bright spots about our campaign - Pokrovski has demonstrated he's a goaltender on par with almost any of the others we've seen in action, and our corps of forwards is only going to get better with age and international experience.

This is not to denigrate the performances of any of our victorious opponents. Against Quakmybush, our offense simply could not get into gear, and Quakmybush did what they needed to to ensure victory. Against Hicana, neither team blew the other out of the water but Hicana converted on their opportunities and we failed to do that enough. Against Havl...well, let's continue pretending that never happened. And today, the Maineiacs team showed incredible heart and mental fortitude - it would have been extremely easy for an unranked team making their Cup debut to break, down 3-1 going into the third period, and they simply refused to give up.

But, all in all, after the extremely bright start, it's hard not to feel disappointed at the turn things have taken.

Goals scored by Karl Myasnikovnik, Nikolai Shcherbatiski and Kiril Zavrazhinov. Details TBA

With three games to go in the group, the absolute best-case scenario for us is three wins out of three to leave us on 15 points. There are still too many possibilities to compute to decide for sure, but it appears that automatic entry to the playoffs is impossible and even if that isn't the case, it would require a set of minor mathematical miracles to pull off. Unfortunately, it also looks as though qualifying through being one of the third-place finishers with the best record is all but impossible as well - the current third-place teams in each group have eleven, ten, twelve, eleven, twelve and eight points, and overtaking the majority of them would require ridiculous luck. Sadly, it seems that here, as before, we're playing merely for pride.

Wolverines defeat the Equestrian States to claim 3rd win
Marco Larbon -- SAINTLAND

"WOLVERINES!" shouted tough-man Philip Mys as his fists flew at Wrister - a Left wing pony following a strong check into the boards of team captain Nestor Van Ryk during the second period of the game. Its not every day that you witness a fight between a pony and a human - though its also not every day that you see a pony on ice-skates for that matter, so this was just par for the course. The fight itself was rather even despite its general awkwardness with Wrister using his size and head to beat around the smaller and lighter Mys. Seeing the size disadvantage building - the referees were quick to step in and stop the fight - but for a short bout it was well worth it. Mys did exactly what he meant to do - he rallied his team and defended his captain. In fact, this fight may have lead to Anditia's unlikely win agains the much higher-ranked (but underperforming) Equestrian States team. With the boost in momentum from the awkward fight, the Wolverines had a renewed vigor that lead to their two scores within 5 minutes - the first coming on a 3 on 1 matchup following a miscue by ES defensemen Grant Richardson - Jarls Miku fed an outlet pass to Samm D'Aura - providing his 4th goal of the WCoH and tying the game a 1 a piece. Two minutes later, Sam Nelson received a pass from the blue line from Nikko Havut to notch his 5th goal of the WCoH giving the Wolverines a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
The third period continued the positive momentum for the Wolverines despite taking untimely penalties. These penalties, a holding minor and a bench minor for too-many men) were successfully defended (including the 18 second 5 on 3) providing more momentum for Anditia. Assistant captain Sam Nelson notched his second goal of the game (6th goal of the WCoH) on a slap-shot originally meant to simply put the puck on net.
"I didnt' think it would go in, but I guess it was hard enough to simply trickle in after the initial block" Nelson admitted. The puck took an awkward bounce off of the pads of ES Shotcrusher and into the net behind his manticorish body.
The Equestrian State team was able to rally during the waning minutes to add an additional score on a pulled goalie rush with 1:32 remaining, but were unable to tie the game in the end.
Anditia next faces a Florgania team who recently tied with Sel Appa. The game itself should go Anditia's way if they can reign in Paul Gardner who has most of the goals for the Florganian team. Though not much is known about the team, they seem to play a very tight game with low scores. Anditia may be able to open up their game to produce scoring similar to their matches with Kinzar and Westbridge. If this happens, expect Anditia to fair well in their remaining games hopefully advancing to the next round.

Most scoring:
1. Havl (25), 2. Valanora/Sicoutimont (21)
Least condeding:
1. Ko-oren/Gregoryisgodistan (1), 3. Svengarda (3)
Record:
1. Ko-oren 5-1-0 9-1 +8
60. Kinzar 0-1-5 4-17 -13
vs. Equestrian States (13th) 1-0 W
vs. Saintland (26th) 2-1 W
vs. Howdeellow (UR) 2-0 W
vs. Kinzar (UR) 3-0 W
vs. Estope (22) 0-0 D
vs. Westbridge (UR) 1-0 W
vs. Sel Appa (57)
vs. Anditia (UR)
vs. Florgania (UR)

It has not exactly been a good day for our high-scoring teams: none of them won. Sicoutimont were the only one to get something out of day 6 (a 2-2 draw, to be exact). Valanora lost 3-1 against another Atlantic Oceanian team, Vilita & Turori. Havl was shut out 2-0 by Svengarda, who now keep the distance between the two limited in Group 6. In the group with Valanora and Vilita & Turori, Gallund is surprisingly first, but every single team is dropping points left and right in that group. Sicoutimont is still keeping Qazox at bay in Group 2. Nothing changed about the positions of the least conceding teams: the best defenses are getting better, it seems. Svengarda's achievements, only conceding three so far, probably overshadow the performances of the Ko-orenite and Gregoryisgodistani defenses (even while these two nations allowed just one) as Svengarda kept Havl away and even completely prevented them from scoring. Svengarda now trails Havl by just two points in Group 6, Ko-oren is still first in Group 3 and Gregoryisgodistan is joint second with Cosumar after Soviet Canuckistan in Group 5. That leaves Group 4, who have Gyatso-Kai and Neu Engollon sharing the top spot.

In other news, Kinzar is the first team to be definitely eliminated from the tournament. They are not exactly the only team without wins (there are actually seven teams without one win yet), but they cannot even finish third in their group anymore.

The Greenblues, after their lackluster display against now-runner-up Estope... continued in the same vein as the Estope game. Absolutely nothing noteworthy happened, but at least Jaragun liberated the team with his third-period goal. Pressure on Halbasund, head coach, is rising as fans demand a more offensive playing style: keeping the goal clean is nice and all, but it is hard to see how good this team really is without using the offense much. The plan is that the team is going to play better teams in the following rounds, after all. They might forget that Equestrian States, Estope and Saintland have been on our path so far, and those games netted us 7 points. We have to admit though: it is not a lot of fun to watch, but we can expect this team to do their job and win. All six defenders called for the team are great at what they do, and even though they come from five different domestic league teams, they can work together well. The first line is showing they can at least score a goal per game, and the third line is promising too. The second line has always been a bit of a problematic area, but so far they have not cost us points yet.

Ko-orenite Sports Encyclopedia - 9th Winter Olympics edition
Field Hockey

The league
This league is largely paired with the Ice Hockey league: when there is Ice Hockey, Field Hockey has a winter break and vice versa (but a summer break). The field hockey league has only 14 teams (against ice hockey’s 16) so the season is four games shorter, and there are no playoffs either. For the rest, this league is your typical home-and-away. It is not unlikely to see teams finish high just based on draws: last season, for instance, the least losing team (Aj Uin State) finished fifth, with just five losses and only seven wins, but an impressive 14 draws. The champion (Ko-oren Greens) had 16 wins, three draws and seven losses. Scoring tends to be quite moderate in the league, with only one team having a goal difference over +10 (and only one below -10).

Most teams are based around the northern side of the Bay of Ko-oren. Largely named after states/regions, not cities, and most teams are either Anglophone or Batavophone (English-speaking or Dutch-speaking). The only team that is not strictly from these areas is Wui City HC, from the Cambriophone (Welsh-speaking) linguistic community, near the west coast. Ko-oren City, the capital, is represented by two teams: Ko-oren Blues and Ko-oren Greens, both sprung from the ubiquitous Ko-oren Capitals that are in almost every league. There are no teams from the southern region, even though they have the population to support a team.
The sport, or rather, the league is not much younger than the ice hockey league. Seven seasons in, we have seen seven different champions, and no real team building a dynasty either. Players that play for one club one year can end up playing for a different club next year, with all changes made during the 30-week offseason when ice hockey is on (30+26 is 56, so there is some overlap between the sports’ seasons. Next year, both leagues will schedule two games a week for a few weeks so that everything is nicely spread out, and one league is over when another starts).

The national team
The team has played in only one tournament so far, but then again, there are not that many field hockey championships. The players come from all different teams, following from the parity in the league, but this national team is rare in having a few players from the colonies. 15 out of 20 players are strictly not Ko-orenite (but Irithoreni, Arhorenic or Zakhorensk). In other sports, the different territories tend to have their own national teams.

Believe it or not, but the field hockey team actually tries to score. This resulted in the Greenblues’ 12 goals in the first four games of the group stage, and 25 total in eight group games. The Ko-orenites finished first as one of two teams without a loss (Barunia being the other team). Ancharmunn had the best record nevertheless: 7 wins instead of 6 and one draw instead of 2. The next rounds were against Darmen (5-4), Barunia (1-1, 2-2 AET, 4-3 on penalties), Saintland (4-0) and with the ‘everyone gets a second chance’ format for this tournament, Ko-oren is the only team to never end up in any kind of losers’ bracket – or lose a game at all. And then the final against Ancharmunn, who started out in the losers’ bracket and moved on to the grand final. And Ancharmunn handed us the only defeat in the tournament: 2-1. Still, that leaves Ko-oren the best ranked team of the world despite the silver.

Quebecois company purchased 2.4 Square kilometers to build a hockey complex in Sonsonate

Sonsonate, SJG.

Lions Play Ice Knights' Game, Come Away With Win

Martin Granger, Staff Reporter

A day removed from controlling Yttribia and playing a grinding, disciplined game in a 1-0 win, the Lions let themselves be sucked into the pace of the junior Ice Knights from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, playing an up and down, back and forth, rollicking affair that featured nine goals and wasn't decided until the final minutes. In the end, despite head coach Cecil Palmer nearly having an aneurysm on the bench as the Ice Knights evaded the defense time and again, pressuring Andrés Kelly with a multitude of shots, the Lions came away with a 5-4 victory. The junior Ice Knights racked up 44 shots, easily outshooting the Lions with 36, but Kelly weathered the storm enough to let the Lions survive.

In the first period, the Ice Knights started strong, racking up two goals, the first coming at 3:14 from the second line on an excellent give-and-go from the Barbashev brothers, Alexei and Nikolai, giving Quebec a 1-0 lead. A heavy slap shot from Marq Brint, former U20 star himself, slammed into net past Igor Tretiak at 6:57 to tie the score. The Quebecois 4th line had an excellent chance to score around 9:30, but Kirils Golovkovs failed to keep the puck inside the opposing blue line, and his later pass was intercepted by defenseman Dwayne Burke. The Ice Knights struck at 11:24 on a quick wrister from Pascal Yoon, but Kermit Lea countered by sneaking one in on the lower glove side of Tretiak at 15:29, and the period would end 2-2.

Things got a little chippy in the second period, when defenseman Vladimir Azikiwe picked a fight with veteran Garry Foster. In retrospect, it was probably a good move, as the Lions were threatening to score and the Ice Knights' defense looked weak. However, he only got in one good punch before Foster hit him with a right cross, sending the 6'7 youth to the ice. Azikiwe will have a bruise tomorrow, but he essentially prevented a goal, as the resulting 4-on-4 yielded nothing for either side. Rodolphe Gong proved his potential with an excellent, pinpoint, pass to Etienné Brassard, who tipped it in at 6:45 to give the Ice Knights the lead once more. However, their defense did not prove to be up to the challenge, allowing a great number of shots on Tretiak, most of which he stopped in stunning fashion. Unfortunately, Doug LaRose deflected a Roger Day shot past Tretiak at 10:01 to tie the score. A second fight broke out between Cody Riley and Hak Cheon Kim, when Kim took exception to the fact that Riley had bumped Tretiak a little too hard. The melee ended with no clear winner, but resentful feelings on both sides. During the 4-on-4, Nikolai Barbashev interfered with veteran Mitch Holcomb, and Matt Grier found René Robinson for a left-side wrister and a 4-3 Lions lead.

In the third period, Benoît Johnson fired a slap shot measured at 169.3 km/h (105.2 mph) that found the back of the net at 12:56, tying the score. Kelly would say after the game that he "could feel the heat at the back of the net". 4-4 the game would stay until 16:33, when Troy Parker fired a long shot from the center circle. Most goalies would have stopped it easily, but Tretiak had a little trouble handling it (in contrast to the rest of his game) and conceded a rebound. Jacques Crist scooped up the rebound and fired it past a less-than-ready Tretiak, providing the final margin. The Ice Knights fired six shots in the final 3:27, including with six skaters, but Kelly stopped them all and the Lions exhaled a sigh of relief. The next opponent for the Lions will be the Tie-Dyeds of Maineiacs, sitting on a 1-3-2 record and six points. The Lions will probably still need to win out to qualify for the playoffs, but they are only one point out of third right now.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," begins the Head of the Department of Foreign and Regional Affairs, Mr. Wade Wallace, as he speaks in front of Dolphin County Regional Hospital. "I have called this press conference tonight to address the findings of Middleton Valley's investigation into the poisoning of Head Coach Today S. Hopeless. We found that the leader of Gregoryisgodistan, who will be referred to as the accused, has been directly behind the attack on our head coach. I have documentation that proves that the accused knowingly and willingly signed documentation ordering the execution of the head coach by 'any means necessary.' This documentation was provided by a man who referred to himself as Secret Police Chief James P. Dean.

The accused has repeatedly tried to attack players from Middleton Valley during the World Cup of Hockey in Saintland. On behalf on President Possible, I want to convey a message to the accused that if one Middleton Valley player, coach, or fan is injured, killed, or taken as hostage, Middleton Valley will use its army of security drones to personally end Gregoryisgodistan's chances at the World Cup of Hockey by arresting all members of the delegation from Gregoryisgodistan.

As for the condition of Head Coach Hopeless, he is up and walking around. As for the whereabouts of Secret Police Chief James P. Dean, Middleton Valley has moved him to a secure location in the peaceful nation of Costa Luna.

Thank you and good luck to the Crazy Pups tonight."
