Who are we?
Project Aurora Marine Industries, is a division of the State owned Project Aurora group of companies, specialising in the design and construction of large commercial ships, but is also responsible for the construction of the vessels used by the ACMSDF including the submarines. The company was founded due to the merger of 8 smaller ship building companies in 1939 to ensure that the government of the Aurora Confederacy had a steady supply of standardised warships in case war decended onto the Aurora Confederacy, though thankfully the Aurora Confederacy was not swept up in the global politics due to a policy of neutrality. When the clouds lifted, the world needed to rebuild and get back on its commercial feet, as such Project Aurora was in an ideal place to begin the commercial rebuilding.

The shipyard initially sprang up at Rai''lal in order to provide a production site for the construction of the sub assemblies of the Rai'Lal bridge project, this huge project required the construction of dry docks which were at the time the largest in the Aurora Confederacy, and with the construction of the bridge, Rai'Lal ceased to be a sleepy town but within the space of a year had become the largest building site in the country as not only was docks being built ready for the construction project, but also the city itself. During the 1970s, with the Rai'Lal bridge construction project underway, Project Aurora Marine Industries was the largest employer within the country, employing 60% of the cities workforce, as well as a good deal of the workforce from outlying areas.

With our shipyards being in Rai'Lal City, the corporate offices of Project Aurora Maritime Industries can be found in South Sands, close to the harbour where we also have a yard with drydock capability to allow the maintainance and repair of vessels upto 350m in length in its largest dry dock, of which there are 4, along with the ability to lift smaller vessels up to 36m in length out of the water without having to dry dock them, this is ideal for working on trawlers.


Services offered by Project Aurora Maritime Industries include the following:
Damage Repair
Scrape and Repaint of hull
Servicing of ship board equipment
Refitting of ships
Refuelling of ships, (Including Nuclear reactors)*
Please give 14 days notice prior to a nuclear refuelling operation. typically this involves cutting open some vessels in order to access the reactor, so is only
viable if the vessel is due for a refit which is typically 25% the cost of a new vessel


Ordering and Payment
Vessels ordered will take 6 months to complete, however there may be a waiting time of up to 4 months for construction to begin depending on the schedule and orderbooks of Project Aurora Maritime, so please allow 10 to 12 months for delivery after placing your order. Payment will be in the form of 50% up front of the initial cost as a deposit for the vessel, with 50% to be paid upon completion, all payments are handled by the Mercantile Federal Bank.

Nations within Astyria will be hereby granted a regional discount of 10%


Products
To minimise production costs, Project Aurora Marine Engineering uses standard production line techniques as pioneered in its other sectors, where larger vessels are built in sub assemblies, known as megablocks in industry speak, with each module fitted out before final installation within the finished product, making for a faster, more efficient building, with the ship finally being floated out rather than sent down a slipway.

The Barents Class container ship is designed to do one thing and do it well, that is to transport containers efficiently across the worlds oceans. Though large, the Barents class ship is also one of the worlds safest container carriers, featuring twin screw propulsion and with the option of fore and aft thrusters, (up to 6 in total), which will allow the ship to manoeuvre in the tightest of harbours without the need for tug boat assistance.

Propulsion system
From the start, the vessel was built to be environmentally friendly, so rather than burning bunker fuel which has a high sulphur content, the Barents class cargo ship is designed to burn diesel fuel in its 3 gas turbines, these gas turbines when running produce 80MW of power through a series of coupled generators. This electrical power is then used to drive the two shafts via coupled electric motors, meaning that from a shut down state to leaving port, the Barents class can be operational in less than half the time of a traditional diesel that burns heavy bunker oil. Furthermore the compact nature of the propulsion system means for a smaller engine room making the ship lighter.

In addition to the primary propulsion, the Barents class has 6 on board diesel generators to provide an additional 45,000hp of power. All power is controlled from a central control room located deep within the ship.

Piracy protection
With Piracy being a problem in some areas of the world, the Barents Class container ship has a few novel ways to deal with the problem, mandated under GAR#20, notably the fitment of high power water cannon, operated from the bridge by remote control. These cannons have a range of 100m, and use high pressure jets of sea water, these are mounted as to enable two cannons to be focused onto one key location, in total Barents class vessels have 12 such cannon installed, each capable of pushing out 3,500litres per minute with the ability to track an incoming skiff. Each turret has 170 degrees of horizontal motion and 90 degrees of vertical elevation, allowing the turrets to spray the sides of the ship, knocking any potential boarder into the water.

In addition to the turrets, the vessel has 3 main water-curtain systems, one covering each side of the vessel with a spray rate of 2,000lit/min, with an additional unit covering the stern flank of the vessel.

Armory lockers:
Under GAR#20, Barents class ships have 3 lockers for the carriage of small arms, these are located in main superstructure area of the ship, one being down the engineering area, the second being at weather deck level situated in the centre of the superstructure, with the third being at the bridge, Project Aurora however do not supply small arms however, but the lockers will take 14 Armalite AR15 rifles, each with 100 rounds of ammunition.

External glazing
Under the provision of GAR#20, external windows of the vessel that are likely to get struck by small arms fire during a pirate attack are armoured to withstand rifle fire, which when combined with the 2" thick steel that makes up the superstructure island of the Barents class container ship, the ship becomes a safe, secure fortress.

Hull
The Hull of the Barents Class container ship is comprised of a bulbous bow at the head of the ship for streamlining, with a twin-screw arrangement at the stern, with twin hulls to increase protection against grounding damage if the ship were to run aground. In the event of a hull breach, the hull is divided up into 21 watertight compartments. An access tunnel from the accommodation and engineering zone to the bow of the ship passes through each of these, and as such has watertight doors at each bulkhead, this all helps to make the Barents Class one of the safest vessels on the ocean. Fuel is stored in tanks situated along the sides of the vessel, in board of the inner-hull, which as it is burned, the ships on-board control system compensates for by continually adjusting the ballast tanks as well as pumping the fuel between the matrix of tanks in order to maintain optimum stability.

The order for five units of the Barents Class container ship has been duly noted, Construction of the fist vessel will hereby begin on October 15th and will take 26 weeks to complete, After which there will be a 4 week sea trial period for the vessels, after which the ship will be granted its naming ceremony. Construction of the other 4 vessels will begin with a 12 weeks separation gap between each hull.

As a customer, you are allowed to visit the production site and will be guided around the production site by a services coordinator, please observe all safety instruction given to you. At the start of construction, you, or a delegation on your behalf, will be invited for the keel laying ceremony

We would like to contract you for an immediate refueling (conventional fuel) and damage repairs of 17 of our ships in your region. None of these ships has suffered any major damages, and only require basic hull repairs and certain rudder replacements. And as a matter of fact, should your services prove to be trustworthy and of high quality, we would begin the official commissioning of your company and shipyards to be one of our foreign naval repairs shipyards on a 3 year contract, all expenses paid regardless of the amount of repairs done.

Firstly I must apologise for the late reply regarding your correspondance.

With regards to your request contained within your previous correspondance, the board of directors and managers have convened with the ministry of defence as the request required refurbishment of three warships, as such the federal govenment of the Mercantile federal republic of the Aurora Confederacy has hereby given me authorisation to formally accept the order and hereby quote a price for the above work.

In total, with repairs and the refuelling of the vessels enclosed within the previous correspondance, the bill is $20,000,000 this includes labour and all materials as well as a full bottom scape and paint with anti-fouling coating. The harbour that this is to be carried out is the central harbour at Rai'Lal and can commence within 7 working days.

Details:
The K7 "Avalon" class scientific research vessel is designed to give academies and scientific institutes the ability to reach 90% of the earths ocean depths thanks to its two submarines which come with the class. The ship itself is powered by a twin screw propulsion design, making for excellent manouvrability in tight waters such as glacial bays and harbours, whilst its strengthened hull and carefully designed bow allows the class to explore areas of the worlds oceans that are known for ice, such as the northern and southern polar areas, here the shape of the bow enables the hull to ride up onto the ice whilst the weight then brings the bow down through the ice, thus allowing the ship to make headway in frozen oceans.

The ship itself has 3 destinct areas, these being the labs, accomodation and engineering areas.
The laboratory spaces, situated amid ships, below the submarine deck and lifeboat deck can be kitted out as per customer specifications, but comes with a high level of equipment, tailored to a specific customer requirement, this area goes to the rear of the vessel, where there is a stern mounted ramp to allow scientific equipment to be put into the water or retrived from the water, as well as remote operated vehicles to be deployed, giving access to deep oceans to carry out scientific tasks where it is not practical to send a manned submersible.

Situated below the waterline are the engineering spaces, these are the heart of the ship, home to the propulsion system, water desalination and filtration system, waste water treatment as well as the electrical system, both for auxiliary propulsion as well as to provide socket power for the vessel as the K7 is a hybrid power vessel, using a two-stage propulsion system where the propellers are driven electrically rather than directly by the engines as here the 4 engines are coupled to a generator system rather than to a gearbox. Operating in areas of natural beauty, the K7 series can be powered entirely off batteries, with 48 hours of propulsive power availability from the battery system at 5 knots.

The living space of the vessel is designed to give all the comforts of home, and as such as been modelled on contemporary cruise ships, offering single or double occupancy cabins for long term operations, each cabin is equipped with satellite internet connection, allowing scientists on board to keep in touch with their home bases as well as families.

Submersibles
The K7 series is designed with submarine operations in mind and so has 2 deep operation submersibles designed to take a crew of 3 down to a depth of 6kms, giving access to most of the worlds oceans, these two identical subs, unlike many of this class of submarine use water ballast rather than iron shot ballast, meaning that no waste is left on the sea bed near a dive site. Once in the ocean, water is taken on board and so the submarines will undertake a free-fall to the sea bed, yet to return to the surface, the water is simply displaced, much in the manner that a full size submarine does, this gives the subs a very precise control of their depth, however in the event of an emergency, the ballast tanks can be released along with the batteries, allowing the positively bouyant hull to return to the surface.

Each sub is equipped with a high resolution imaging sonar system, two manipulator arms, 6 forward facing LED spotlights and 4 downward facing LED spotlights, as well as video equipment, with communications system being by means of radio.

Measuring 600 feet from bow to stern, the Skjold class is one of the larger types of ICBM and cruise missile submarines available with provision for 40x cruise missiles or 20 Trident long range intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles, however sale is restricted to the following regions

Paradoxia

The Skjold class submarine is designed to be extremely quiet, as such the propulsion system is enclosed in two baffled ducts to reduce propeller noise from the twin water-jet propulsors that are located in cheek fairings at the rear of the hull, just aft of the reactor compartments.

Sensors
The Skjold class submarine is equipped with the latest passive acoustic processing equipment, allowing it to listen to, track and identify targets in the ocean whilst cruising deep below the waves. This passive system enables the Skjold to range targets by acoustic triangulation, negating the need to use its active sonar, meaning that the Skjold can sit and listen without giving its own position away as the sub is designed as a missile launch platform as opposed to being a hunter killer submarine.

survivability
Skjold class submarines have 2 primary pressure hulls inside the outer hull along with a smaller secondary pressure hull situated below the sail above the two primary hulls, each pressure hull is double skinned along with the outer hull, with hatches dividing the pressure hulls up, so should one hull be breached, there is sufficient space inside the remaining hulls to maintain bouyancy once the ballast has been trimmed out.

Propulsion
Like traditional submarines, the Skjold uses nuclear reactors to drive steam turbines, in this case two reactors provide the power for 4 steam turbines, however that is where the similarities end, for the Skjold does not have a traditional gear-driven propeller shaft but instead uses electric motors to drive the propulsion system which allows for quieter running. These motors drive bi-directional contra-rotating pump-jets which have a controllable operating pitch, thereby allowing them to be adjusted to maintain optimum performance and above all, as quiet as possible.

Through electrolosys, the two nuclear reactors on board generate oxygen from the surrounding sea water, enabling the Skjold to remain submerged for its entire 120 day patrol as the two reactors have sufficient fuel to last for 30 years before a refuelling will be carried out, this will be generally scheduled with a refit. The two pressurised water reactors that power the submarine are manufactured by South Sands Nuclear.

The KR2014N, N standing for Nuclear is a long range deep ocean support and survey vessel, the installed power plant generates 40MW of power giving the type excellent performance both in terms of being able to tackle rough seas as well as being able to get out to a survey area quicker than its conventionally powered competitors.

Bridge:The bridge of the KR2014N class vessel covers the full width of the ship with a central command section and extended but enclosed bridge wings, allowing fully enclosed operations. control for the ship is now by means of a joystick instead of a traditional wheel, however with full GPS and a sophisticated bottom-scan system, the ship is able to navigate its own way around harbours and coves as it goes about its work as a survey or dive support vessel.

The installed power plant consists of 2 APR reactors that use pressurised water as a coolant and heat transfer mechanism with the condensers utilising sea water, this compact power plant enables the KR2014N to have additional fresh water storage, however due to on board descalination systems fresh water is generated by treating sea water.

Equipment
The KR2014N comes equipped with two large cranes, one with a rated capacity of 400Te at 11m reach, this is the primary harbour crane and controlled from a command room on the crane structure, designed for lifting heavy equipment onto the deck from the hard standing of the shore, though for lighter operations and operations at sea, a smaller crane with a 58Te at 11m capacity is also installed, both with active heave compensation.

The smaller crane is controlled by either remote control or from inside a command cabin, its dual-arm design enables it to fold up back against itself when not in use, or to fold down when working with a remote operated vehicle, allowing the ROV to be placed in the water with as little free-swing cable as possible, preventing the ROV swinging around before it goes into the water.

Propulsion
on board the ship are 2x Advanced Pressurized water reactors, these two reactors are designed to be refuelled without the need to cut the hull open, as such the reactor compartment is enclosed in its own compartment with a heavy duty hydraulic hatch covering it, these compartments contain the reactor, condensers and steam raising units and kept at 90% atmospheric pressure, allowing the difference in air pressure to maintain a layer of protection in the event of a problem. Through a series of airlocks however, access to this compartment is possible.

Steam from the two reactors which share a common biological shield, thus reducing the footprint of the reactor compartment within the ship is used to drive two primary turbogenerators and 2 secondary turbogenerators, these in turn provide all the electrical power for the vessel which includes the 2x 21,000hp electric motors for each propeller. To provide power to the cooling system and condenser pumps when the primary powerplant is shut down, two diesel generators provide power for the two 750bhp circulator pumps , these generators which are situated in the bow underneath the helicopter deck are provided by Diamond Star, however Genesis and VL engines can be specified if needed.

Your order for the K7 Miranda class vessel has been accepted. Construction will take aproximately 9 months to complete, once completed this vessel will be put through sea trials before being signed over to Nautilus, however construction of the K14 class vessel takes around 18 months to complete because of the size of the vessel, however our latest product, the KR2014N is designed to ultimately replace the K14 vessel which uses 6 turbine engines as opposed to the KR2014N which uses two pressurised water reactors for 10 year fuel endurance which after 10 years can be times with a refit of the vessel.

If you are interested in the KR2014N, please let us know.
