Day Light Savings Time?

Postby Topid » Sun Mar 14, 2010 1:26 am

Dammit I hate it when they through this at me. Just spent five minutes wondering how it got to be 3:15 am so fast!

May be a silly question, and one I should know as I've gone through two or three time changes on NS now, but will the update times move with me, or do they disregard Day light savings time? I know not everywhere does it, (even in the US) and not every place does it on the same day.

If a region updated for me at 11 pm last night, will it update at 11pm tonight too, even though my time changed?

I can't speak for everyone, but I know that I would appreciate it if you would report back with your findings. I'm curious!

Update time before last night was 05:00 - 06:00 GMT, its now moved to 04:00 - 05:00 GMT. Obviously the second update has moved too, from 17:00 - 18:00 GMT to 16:00 - 17:00 GMT.

Why would it go back an hour? (Or is GMT not on DST yet?)

DST doesn't apply to GMT.

That - GMT doesn't change. The time in the UK changes, but thats known as 'British Summer Time' (and that change hasn't happened yet).

Yeah, I thought "London time" and GMT were the same thing, but apparently not. So I suppose when someone refers to "London time" during the summer it's actually GMT +1.

I figured one of you would look at the WA proposal/resolution voting end times (and I didn't want to commit to what I thought would happen). You guys should work on your sleuthing. 8)

It may be worth noting that recently, in many countries like the US, DST begins earlier than it used to have. In Canada it used to be the first Sunday in April: now it's the second Sunday in March. That might explain the mystery.

I'm sure she could, the question is, will she provide an answer?

The servers are located in Vancouver, British Colombia. Canada observes DST at the same time as the U.S. So if you're in Canada or the U.S (at least, a part of the U.S. that observes DST), the update times will appear to remain the same. The EU will switch on the 28th, I believe, so for them, update time is one hour earlier until they switch. GMT never changes for DST, so that is why update times will occur at 0400GMT instead of 0500GMT until DST ends.

Update changed back an hour for me too. I just didn't attribute it to DS.
