World Bowl XXI (Results/RP/Rosters)

Postby Carasatoga » Tue Sep 03, 2013 10:08 am

OOC: I am so sorry this took so long. I only just receive internet in my apartment once again and I had no idea I would be this busy once classes resumed. Things are beginning to slow down, however, and so I can be expected to do my hosting duties as needed.

This is the IC thread for the twenty-first edition of the World Bowl, a competition pitting the best of the best American Football nations against one another for glory on the gridiron. This edition will be taking place in the Old Coast Nation of Carasatoga in some of the most renowned football venues in the nation.

NATION
Carasatoga is a small, Rushmori nation of 33,000,000 on the coast of Oriale Bay in the Eastern Goose Sea. Sporting is a tradition rampant in Carasatoga since colonial times when Norwegians settled on the lands of the Native Naragans (Carasatogans). Baseball, Softball, Basketball and Volleyball are the major sports played in every school and every town in the nation, but Gridiron is a sport also rich in tradition. The heart of the sport in Carasatoga is centered in the coastal metropolis of Oklahoma City, with a population over 250,000. Home to both Oklahoma City State University and the Oklahoma Release professional team, the two most successful football teams in the country.

For the past two years, the Carasatogan military has been quelling a rebellion in the Western Carasatogan counties and with the skirmishes finally settled after a crackdown of the rebels, the newly named Carasatoga Authority Republic is ready economically and socially to host one of the multiverse's largest competitions. From the largest cities in the country; the capital, Caroga, as well as Bridgeport and Jackson, one will have the amenities of any major city. While the cities which make up the Aurelian Coast: Milita, Hialeah, Oklahoma City and Newport, make up a vibrant, wealthy and fast-growing modern metropolis. From small mountains to beautiful, golden coastlines, Carasatoga is a glorious nation prepared to welcome the world to its fields of gridiron to compete in the twenty-first World Bowl.

FORMAT
As of right now sign-ups are open and stand at 55 entries and I propose for them to be closed at 56. This way there will be 8 groups of 7, with the groups playing a single-round robin (6 games) qualifying round. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Second Group Stage which will consist of 4 groups of 4 playing a single-round robin (3 games). The Top two from each group will advance to the Quarterfinals and then winners to the Semifinals then Finals. The tie-breakers that I like to use are in this order: Wins, H2H Wins, Point Difference, H2H Point Difference, Points For, H2H Points For, Away Points, H2H Away Points. If there is still a tie after that, may God help us all.

Notes

Prince Petrus is an athletic QB who is known to scramble frequently. He is the heir to the throne of Saintland. He is recovering from an injury suffered at the hooves of the Equestrian States during the last World Bowl. Salvius is more of an accurate pocket passer. Ulpius is a big quarterback with a very strong arm who can run a little. Tuccius is a power RB and Maximius is a speed back. Loreius is a great pass catcher, but lacks elite power or elite speed. Ancharius is a large fullback who moves pretty well and can make some plays. Matius is a pure blocking fullback. Matthaeus and Thomas Favonius are twins and Paulus Favonius is their younger brother. Ioannes Lusius is a deep threat and all-around dominant WR. Herius is more of a possession WR. Epidius is a relatively tall WR. Thomas Lusius is the younger brother of Ioannes. He is a speed WR who is drop-prone. All of the defensive linemen are big players that would be defensive tackles in a 4-3. Oranius is a balanced WR. Georgius Didius is an elite pass rusher. His brother Silvester is more of a coverage OLB. The Stlaccius brothers are known for their hard hits. The defense is extremely aggressive and tends to show alot of different looks. They use movement to throw the opposition off guard. Offensively, Saintland tends to run the ball most of the time, but they are an extremely deep offense that can run any style of offense. They can go no huddle or use a huddle. They can go option and they can go run and shoot. Saintland will run trick plays and they will call unexpected plays. Prince Petrus calls the offensive signals and Georgius Didius calls defensive signals. If Didius is knocked out of a game, Publicius would likely become the defensive signalcaller. The league in Saintland has 12 players per side, 3 downs, a 110-yard field that is also wider and 20 yard end zones ("Canadian" rules). This team won Arena Bowl IV with an undefeated record. More recently, they finished 9-5 at World Bowl XX and, despite playing without Prince Petrus, won the inaugural Maple Leaf Bowl with an undefeated record.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Yes
Choose scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only one per match
Godmod scoring events: Yes
Godmod injuries: Yes
Godmod other events: Yes, go crazy, just don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory. Trying to kill him is fine, as is staging a fake assassination using actors/other creative means. And if you do anything too weird, Telegram me to give me a heads up, but you don't need to ask permission.
Style Modifier: -5
Note: You can choose the weather at your home games. I will post the weather forecast before my home games, so follow that.

Most Gregoryisgodistanis (that is the demonym) do not have real names, only titles and government IDs. For instance, our starting quarterback is Prune Juice Bottler 897DQA4. This means his job is Prune Juice Bottler and his government ID is 897DQA4. Government IDs do not change throughout one's life, but titles may. For instance, our quarterback was formerly known as Youth 897DQA4 until he turned 18, then Prune Farmer 897DQA4 while he worked as a Prune Farmer, before becoming a Prune Juice Bottler and acquiring his current title. He should be referred to by his full name at all times, never 897DQA4. A few high-ranking government elites have personal names.

Gregoryisgodistan normally goes with 2 wide receivers, 1 tight end, a halfback, and a fullback on offense, but may use other sets, such as 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB, etc.

On defense, our base is a 4-3-4 (4 linemen, 3 linebackers, 4 backs) but we also use a 4-2-5 nickel from time to time, and occasionally, a 3-2-6 dime. We NEVER play prevent defense.)

Additionally, since our success rate on two-point conversions is roughly 53%, meaning the expected value from going for 2 is higher than the expected value from an extra point, we almost always go for two points after a touchdown, unless we're either winning in a blowout (to avoid appearing unsportsmanlike) or if one point is equally as good as two (such as if we've just scored a touchdown to tie the game, in which case usually we'll kick the extra point for the lead unless it's early in the game.)

Our defense is very strong, but our offense is mediocre at best. Most of our scores are either directly scored by the defense or scored by the defense setting up the offense with good field position. We also frequently will use Defected Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher (more on him later) as a blitzing linebacker, meaning we're sending five men.

Note: our head coach calls all plays, unlike most teams.

Head Coach: Assistant Sports Minister George Hurley
Offensive Coordinator: Assistant Sports Minister Frank Bartholomew
Defensive Coordinator: Retiree Edward Cunnings
Special Teams Coordinator: Education Minister 9ADHHG1

What is an Enemy Crusher? And why are they all so fat?
Enemy Crushers work for the government to crush people as an "enhanced interrogation" technique to get them to confess. Many of them die if they don't confess in time. They are fat in order to successfully inflict pain upon the torturee. That's why most die. The Enemy Crushers also crushed to death multiple referees, plus several players, coaches, and fans of the the opposing teams during the Baptism of Iron. You have been warned.

Is Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino related to the politician from New York?
No, and he will crush to death anyone who asks him that. So don't try, unless you want to be crushed to death.

Did Darrelle Revis and Brian Urlacher really defect to Gregoryisgodistan?
No, but the government claims to have kidnapped them. Following the Baptism of Iron, in which "Uralcher" was named MVP of the final, the two "kidnapped NFL players" claimed they liked Gregoryisgodistan so much that they wanted to live here forever, even though Lord Almighty Gregory offered them the opportunity to leave. But in reality, they are just random Gregoryisgodistanis who are good at football who were instructed to pretend to be Urlacher and Revis. Keep in mind that everyone in the country believes the official government story because they are so propagandized, even though "Urlacher" and "Revis" look nothing like their real counterparts.

"Liked Gregoryisgodistan so much and decided to stay here forever" sounds an awful lot like Stockholm Syndrome, considering they were allegedly kidnapped, right?
It is often debated among Gregoryisgodistanis whether it is Stockholm Syndrome or true love of the country, and in fact both players mentioned Stockholm Syndrome then specifically denied it. A recent survey showed that 76% of Gregoryisgodistanis believe the two genuinely love this country, 24% believe it is Stockholm Syndrome, and 0% believe the "absurd foreign propaganda" that the players are not really who they supposedly are.

You do realize Darrelle Revis doesn't play for the Jets, anymore, right?
Exactly, and the official government story is that he no longer plays for the Jets because he was kidnapped and later defected. In reality, he was traded to the Buccaneers.

And Urlacher's retired, you know?
Yes, but the official story is we kidnapped him and he defected permanently.

How should I refer to these two in my RP's?
By their official names, but feel free to use irony quotes to imply doubt as to the name's veracity.

What's a pervert chaser? Sounds creepy.
It really isn't. They chase down perverts who expose themselves and run away, then cut their privates off with a butcher's knife. Without any anesthetic or Novocaine. Don't be a pervert in Gregoryisgodistan. Or a Pervert Chaser will catch you.

Are all the von Streudels related?
Yes, they are brothers.

Gregoryisgodistan's first group stage games will be played at Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium, which for American football seats 225,617. If we do not sell all our tickets, we will select Gregoryisgodistanis by lottery and force them to attend so it is a sell out. If they do not, they will be sentenced to a lifetime of slave labor or possibly death depending on whether we win the game. Our commoners are forbidden to travel to road games, so we will hire actors from Gregory Llama Land to pretend to be fans. If their past performances are any indication, they will not do a good job. Government elites such as Lord Almighty Gregory and other officials may travel to away games, but will sit in VIP areas, not in the normal section allotted for Gregoryisgodistan fans.

Southwick Football Association Roster for World Bowl XXI

Major Coaches
Head Coach: Jack Russell (48 y.o.)
Although he is not the premier voice in Southwick football, Russell brings two things to the table: efficiency and energy. Russell is a very high-energy coach and often pushes his players past the point of exhaustion. However, he is also available to give advice to players, so they like him. He is able to keep morale high and he knows how to build team spirit. Russell is aggressive tactically. He does not directly call plays, but he does influence in important situations, like fourth downs. Russell also favors playing a small but quick team, as can be seen by the Southwick roster. He is not under much pressure for this tournament since it is the first international play for the Southwick team, so he has wiggle room to work with. The SFA supports his style of play and understands that it will probably take awhile for it to come to fruition.

Offensive Coordinator: Daniel Hughes (41 y.o.)
Relatively young compared to members of opposing coaching staffs, but comparatively old on the Southwick staff, Daniel Hughes runs a throwback style with a twist. Hughes’ offense is known as the “Quintuple Option”, which combines classical flexbone ground-and-pound football with passing options. Hughes is conservative tactically and sometimes feuds with Russell over calls in tight situations, but they are good friends off of the field.

Defensive Coordinator: Ryan Washington (50 y.o.)
Washington was a candidate for the head coaching job and is respected as one of the best defensive minds in Southwick football. Seeing as Russell is focused on offensive tactics, Washington will have virtually autonomy on how he runs the defense. He is conservative as well, but focuses on keeping his players in tip-top shape. His players aren’t as big as those on other teams, but they are faster and in some cases, stronger.

Special Teams Coordinator: Earl Hall (39 y.o.)
Special teams is usually frowned upon in Southwick football, so it was hard for the team to find a coordinator. Hall comes from a football background in the universities of Southwick, but he is fairly unproven. This is his chance to make it on the big stage, but if he messes up, he will likely never get this chance again. His units are disciplined, but are prone to giving up good field position thanks to athletic limitations.

Rest of the Coaching Staff:
Steve Hall, Quarterbacks Coach, 39 y.o.
Anthony Hicks, Running Backs Coach, 42 y.o.
Gary Cox, Receivers Coach, 36 y.o.
Billy White, Offensive Line Coach, 50 y.o.
John Smith, Defensive Line Coach, 48 y.o.
Daniel Baker, Linebackers Coach, 46 y.o.
George Edwards, Defensive Backs Coach, 39 y.o.
Nick Duncan, Strength & Conditioning Coach, 34 y.o.
Alan Dunn, Athletic Trainer, 35 y.o.

Stadium: Norton Field, Southwick, Southwick (38,000 capacity)
Norton Field is not the largest field in Southwick, but it is located in the capital, so it seemed like a logical choice for home games. Southwick (the district) has the best infrastructure available to support visiting fans, including its state-of-the-art monorail system that goes all around the city. The stadium actually has a monorail station inside, making it very easy to get to games. Named after the Norton neighborhood of Southwick, the field is quaint but large enough to for Southwick crowds. It may seem small to visiting fans, but it is the average size for Southwick stadiums. Not many seats will be available for opposing fans thanks to local fans buying up most tickets, however, there will always be tickets available outside the stadium from scalpers, which is mostly legal in Southwick. The stadium is outdoors, so the weather may affect games as the tournament will fall right in the middle of the snow season. Crews will work to clear the stadium and most winds will be blocked out, but the playing surface may not be optimal.

Roleplay Permissions:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Yes, but please try to stay away from too many field goals. Southwick’s kicking unit is notoriously poor since the kickers are backups at various position, so the longest kick that the team will even think about kicking is 45 yards. If needed, feel free to RP missed PATs in order to make the score right.
Choose scoring events: Yes, but see above.
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but I will decide the severity and length. No killing or any major injuries please.
Godmod scoring events: No, but I will telegram you if I would like anything to be changed so we can talk about it. I am fine with pretty much anything within normal limits (i.e. no magic, etc).
Godmod injuries: No, see above note
Godmod other events: Yes, but nothing too out of the ordinary please.
Style Modifier: +2

Offensive Style:
Southwick plays the “quintuple option”, a new formation pioneered by Daniel Hughes. The formation is a flexbone (fullback, two slotbacks, two flankers). The play almost always starts in the same way: the quarterback hikes the ball and has a read option with the fullback (the first option). The quarterback reads the defense and either hands the ball off or keeps it. Then the quarterback goes either left or right (the second option). This is another read that depends on blocking patterns. When the quarterback chooses which way to go, the trailing slotback runs into position to receive a pitch from the quarterback (the third option). The quarterback either pitches the ball or keeps it himself. Next, the quarterback has the option to pass the ball. He has two downfield receivers (the fourth option): a slotback who went out for a short pass, and the strong-side flanker who usually goes out for a medium to deep pass. If neither of these options are satisfactory, the quarterback can either run it, or throw it to the opposite side of the field to the weak-side flanker who runs a screen route (the fifth option). Because of the complex nature of the offense, all players must know exactly what to do on each play. If they do not, the offense will quickly break down. Quarterbacks are at a premium in Southwick and only the most intelligent players are considered for the position. Quarterbacks have to have very quick reactions, make good decisions, and have enough athletic ability to pass or run. Southwick rarely runs deep passes, so most Southwick quarterbacks are of the dual-threat variety. There is no such thing as a pocket passer from Southwick.

Because of the premium on game IQ and the speed at which the offense must be run, the Southwick offense is very small (weight-wise). Quarterbacks, slotbacks, and flankers are never above 195 pounds and fullbacks rarely weigh more than 200. Offensive linemen are rarely larger than 255 pounds. Because of this, the team may struggle against large defensive lines and blitzes. However, the added speed allows the offense to function and gives the offense big-play threats. Southwick may have a lot of plays that gain only a few yards, but they will also be able to score.

Quarterbacks
#13 - Matthew Turner - QB - 6’4” - 175 - 25
Turner is the starting quarterback for the Southwick team and he is also a leader for this squad. Turner is very fast (he ran a 4.36 40-yard dash), but he is skinny and sometimes gets hurt. He is a fairly accurate passer in short yardage situations, but does not have much arm strength and his throws become wobbly down the field. He prefers to run the ball in the quintuple option, so there won’t be that many passing attempts. He has a high game IQ and knows how to run the offense. He is also the holder for the kicking unit.

#11 - Allan Wright - QB/P - 6’2” - 180 - 23
Wright is a little bit bigger and a little bit slower than Turner, but he still knows how to run the offense. He has had plenty of practice thanks to Turner’s injuries, and he has displayed a better throwing arm than Turner. If he gets into the game, the team will pass more often. Wright is also the team’s punter and he is pretty good, but not great. He does not handle pressure well and is susceptible to punt blocks. However, he does leave the team open for fake punts and trick plays because of his skillset.

Fullbacks
#32 - Samuel Hall - FB - 6’0” - 210 - 22
Although he is smaller than most running backs, Hall is tough and plays like a bruiser. He isn’t afraid to get scrappy and can even block a little. Hall is no receiving threat, but he is pretty fast (4.45 40-yard dash). Hall is a workhorse for Southwick and he won’t have a high yards per attempt average, but he will take a lot of carries.

#30 - Gary Williams - FB - 5’10” - 198 - 22
Williams is smaller than Hall, but he is also faster. He is mostly used on third down and long situations where the team might need to pass. He has pretty good hands and he can block as well. He is not as good of a runner as Hall and he is rarely used in short yardage/goal line situations. Williams will expect to see a substantial number of snaps this year.

Slotbacks
#45 - Carlos Moore - SB - 6’0” - 174 - 21
One of only three twenty-one year old starters in the Southwick offense, Moore is a phenom. He is fast, running 40 yards in about 4.38 seconds, surprisingly strong (he can bench about 290 pounds), and is tough, fighting through a broken leg in order to make the team. Moore is a pretty good receiver, but his real talent is on the swing. He is fast enough to hit the outside if he can get a good block and in the open field he is dynamite. He isn’t a very good runner in between the tackles because of his size, however, the offensive scheme rarely requires him to do so.

#35 - Michael Phillips - SB - 5’11” - 186 - 25
A better receiver than Moore, Phillips is not as good of a runner and is substantially slower. For this reason, Turner prefers to run the option towards Phillips so that Phillips will go out as a receiver. He is pretty tough, as are most Southwick players, but he is not big enough to run up the middle. In short-yardage situations, he is sometimes subbed out for Williams as another blocker.

#38 - Sean Brooks - SB - 6’0” - 178 - 23
Brooks is okay at everything but not special either. He is about as good of a runner as Phillips, and about as good of a receiver as Moore. He subs in when Moore or Phillips needs a rest, but will otherwise not see much action. There was some talk of trying to convert him to the defense, but it never panned out.

Flankers
#81 - Paul Bailey - FL/PK/RS - 6’5” - 187 - 25
Bailey is a truly special player. He and Moore are the best players on the offense and arguably on the team. He has 46” vertical leap, making him a dominant player in the air, in addition to running the 40-yard dash in about 4.28 seconds. He is a a little bit skinny, but he is a big target thanks to his height. Bailey is an easy target to hit and will see most of the passes thrown downfield. Bailey is also the team’s placekicker and return specialist. As a kicker, he is accurate from within 35 yards, but his range stops at about 45 yards. He struggles in tough weather conditions, of which there are plenty in Southwick. He also has a bad habit for missing extra points. As a return specialist, Bailey is electric. He has big-play speed, but he sometimes makes poor decisions about touchbacks and taking the ball out of the endzone. We expect that he will score at least one return touchdown this bowl though. Bailey will be a make or break player for the team in this bowl.

#88 - Howard Flores - FL - 6’5” - 189 - 21
The second wheel in the Southwick air attack, Flores is a better blocker than Bailey. However, he is not as fast, although he is still pretty speedy, and does not have the hops that Bailey does. He usually runs the screen side and he has a few jukes up his sleeve. He is very useful in short-yardage situations as he can block off the outside, especially against smaller corners. Flores can also be used at defensive back in a pinch, however, the coaching staff hopes that that scenario will not play out.

#83 - Gerald Torres - FL - 6’3” - 183 - 24
Torres lost out on a starting gig because of Flores’ height advantage. Extremely fast (he runs a 4.34 40 yard-dash), Torres is often used a substitute to catch screen passes. He is not much of a blocker and doesn’t see much action near the goalline. The team also experimented with putting Torres at slotback to make use of his speed, but he is too big for that position. Torres has spotty hands and is not targeted downfield very often.

#84 - Tim Richardson - FL - 6’2” - 184 - 21
A solid fourth receiver, Richardson is only used in hail mary packages as a deep threat. He is fast and has pretty good hands, but struggles to gain separation from defensive backs. He does not have very many power moves or jukes and lacks the ability to take break tackles. A flanker with pretty good jumping ability, Richardson would be a good goal line target if it was not for Bailey and Flores.

Offensive Tackles
#65 - Roger Lewis - OT - 6’4” - 259 - 22
Very small for a left tackle, Lewis struggles with bull rushes. However, he is surprisingly strong and he is very good at blocking speed rushers. He is very fast for an offensive tackle, running below 4.65. He is alright as a run blocker, but his real forte is at pass blocking. He is occasionally used as a blocker on special teams.

#62 - Bruce Jenkins - OT - 6’6” - 252 ‘ 25
The leader of the Southwick offensive line, Jenkins doesn’t make the mistakes that Lewis sometimes does. He rarely gets called for penalties and keeps a level head throughout the game. He is not quite as fast as Lewis, but he is still able to handle speed rushers. He is a better run blocker than Lewis, but he can be dispatched by large defensive ends with relative ease.

#64 - Louis Coleman - OT - 6’5” - 254 - 21
A project, Coleman has more raw talent than Lewis or Jenkins. However, he struggles with footwork and lacks the intangibles that Jenkins has. He is stronger than Lewis (43 reps at 225 pounds bench press) and is faster as well (4.55 second 40-yard dash). If he can get his mind behind the game, he could be a real force at offensive tackle. Otherwise, he will continue to sit on the bench because of his mental mistakes.

Offensive Guards
#68 - Aaron Bell - OG - 6’4” - 252 - 24
A solid offensive guard, Bell is very mobile. He is good at moving on swing blocks to support outside runs. However, thanks to his relative lack of size, he struggles with inside run blocking. He is pretty strong, but he is no match for nose tackles or large defensive tackles. The optimal situation for him when he is blocking is an outside run, or being able to get to the second level to take on a linebacker.

#66 - Richard Stewart - OG - 6’4” - 252 - 21
Stewart is the starting right guard. He is stronger than Bell, meaning he can take on most defensive tackles, however, he is also slow (very slow compared to most Southwick players). Because of his lack of speed, he is not in the coaches’ favor and could be replaced at any time during the tournament.

#67 - Daniel Allen - OG - 6’4” - 250 - 22
Allen is a viable starter for Southwick. He is faster than Stewart, although not as strong. He is a good outside run blocker and has good footwork. He is a smart player and rarely gets called for fouls. The only reason that Stewart is starting in front of him is because Allen has been hampered by injuries recently, and the coaching staff wants to keep him healthy. He has also been known to line up in the backfield in short yardage situations as an extra blocker.

Center
#52 - Doug White - C - 6’3” - 244 - 22
White shows all the marks of being a future leader for the Southwick team. He is intelligent, does not get in trouble, and plays smart on the field. He is smaller than most linebackers even, but this does not stop him from giving 110% on the field. His best attribute is how quick he gets off of the line. He doesn’t have the strength to match up with most linemen, but he can beat them into position and gain leverage that way.

#54 - Greg Collins - C - 6’3” - 247 - 22
Collins is mostly used as the long snapper on special teams units. He is a decent center, but nothing special, and is not expected to challenge White for playing time anytime soon. He is a pretty good long snapper and is one of the better special teams players on the team. He also plays on the kickoff teams and is pretty fast for a lineman.

Defensive Style
Southwick defense is known for one tenet: intensity. Southwick runs a 4-3 defense, however, at least one linebacker is blitzing on all plays. Safeties play close to the line and sometimes sell out completely to stop any rush attempts. Cornerbacks are instructed to play bump-and-run defense. This means that they sometimes get beat deep, but they are a nuisance and often provoke opposing players into committing penalties.

Just like on offense, Southwick defenders are small compared to players from other teams. Defensive lineman are never above 260 pounds and linebackers are in the 230s. The smallest players, cornerbacks, sometimes hit 170 pounds. This allows defenders to be muscled out of the play at times, but it also gives the defenders the speed to disengage themselves from blocks and fill holes quickly. Southwick will give up most of its yards in the air.

Defensive Ends
#93 - Robert Bennett - DE - 6’5” - 247 - 22
Bennett is a physical player prone to random outbursts of anger. He sometimes loses his head during the game and is kept on a short leash by the coaches. He is pretty quick and can be described as a speed rusher. He is able to hold down an offensive tackle, leaving a hole for a linebacker to blitz. He is also good at stopping outside runs, although he is not particularly effective against runs between the tackles.

#98 - Chris Anderson - DE - 6’5” - 251 - 23
A workout addict, Anderson is as strong as most defensive ends, even though he is smaller. Anderson has developed a unique conditioning paradigm with strength coach Nick Duncan, and is also involved in crossfit workouts throughout the country. Anderson is pretty fast and can get around most tackles, but also has a few moves that allow him to work his way in on the inside. Anderson is able to collapse against the run, and can even drop back in coverage on zone blitzes.

#91 - Jose Rogers - DE - 6’5” - 244 - 23
At 244 pounds, Rogers would be a linebacker on most other teams. If the team played a 3-4, there is definitely a chance he would play at rush linebacker. However, because of the formation used, he is mostly relegated to the bench. Rogers sometimes comes in as a fresh legs substitute for Bennett and will also come in if Bennett starts to lose his temper. Rogers is pretty quick, but he is little help against inside runs and often gets mauled by bigger linemen.

Defensive Tackles
#99 - Steven Alexander - DT - 6’5” - 257 - 25
The biggest player on the team, Alexander plays with a drive unmatched by anyone else on the team. His brother was a promising football player as well, but he was tragically killed in an unsolved shooting a few years ago. Alexander plays for his brother’s memory and for his own future. He is strong and will fight for every inch on the line. He has trouble penetrating the pocket on the pass rush, but he is able to cause enough disruption to hurt the opposing team’s passing game.

#97 - Jason Williams - DT - 6’4” - 255 - 22
Williams is a borderline starter who will fight for playing time with Ralph Simmons. He is not as strong as Alexander and does not work as hard, but he shows some promise. Williams has started working out with Chris Anderson, and if he can reach the level of fitness that Anderson is at, he could be a real force in the middle. For now he will start, but who knows what will happen by the end of the tournament.

#94 - Ralph Simmons - DT - 6’4” - 253 - 24
As noted above, Simmons will receive a substantial amount of playing time. His future mainly depends on how motivated Williams can become, and how long he can sustain that motivation. Simmons is not amazing in any areas of his game, but he is no slouch. He is competent as a run stopper and can keep a blocker occupied.

Linebackers
#56 - Nich James - LB - 6’2” - 234 - 24
James is a tackling machine at outside linebacker for Southwick. He has a nose for the ball and is rarely caught out to dry by fake handoffs. He is quick to the ball and can get around offensive linemen when blitzing. James is not used as a blitzer as often as his compatriot Jackson on the other side, so he is often required to drop into pass coverage on tight ends. He is an average covermen, but is prone to giving up the deep ball, especially since he rarely gets help from safeties.

#51 - Eric Ross - LB - 6’2” - 239 - 24
Slower than the other linebackers, Ross is still likely the fastest middle linebacker in the tournament thanks to his size, running a 4.6. Ross is easily blocked by offensive linemen and is sometimes ineffective against power backs. However, he has the speed to run with most fullbacks and tight ends and is good in pass coverage. Ross does not blitz very often.

#53 - Walter Jackson - LB - 6’3” - 232 - 24
Jackson is the primary rush linebacker for the Southwick defense. A physical specimen, Jackson runs the 40 yard dash in about 4.5 seconds. Jackson is also very strong and can take on centers with success. When facing offensive tackles, he usually tries to speed around them and get to the quarterback. Jackson often struggles against quicker and leaner offensive tackles who can match his pace. He is pretty good in coverage and has long arms that he uses to bat down passes at the line.

#58 - Carlos Butler - LB - 6’1” - 234 - 22
A prospect for the future, Butler is just along for the ride. He is the backup for James and Jackson at outside linebacker. Quick, Butler is a pretty good blitzer and there was some talk of him bulking up 15 pounds and becoming a defensive end. That withstanding, Butler will see some time on special teams and in goal line situations as a run stopper. He is not very good in pass defense, but coaches hope that he can improve in this aspect and possibly start in the next World Bowl.

#55 - Carlos Martinez - LB - 6’2” - 233 - 21
Martinez is a promising player at the middle linebacker position. This tournament he will probably play mostly on special teams, but the next few World Bowls may see him earn a spot in the starting eleven. Martinez needs to bulk up more or risk being tossed aside by blockers like a pinata, but the coaching staff likes his speed and the intangibles he has displayed, even at a young age. Martinez will be a leader on this team for years to come.

Cornerbacks
#28 - Johnny Green - CB - 6’1” - 187 - 23
Johnny Green is a shutdown corner for Southwick. Standing out from the relatively senile Southwick secondary, Green is fast and physical. His specialty is the bump-and-run and he is good at frustrating opposing players and goading them into penalties. Green has the speed to track down running backs and could be a wide receiver with his hands. He is occasionally used in offensive sets on hail mary passes and is the replacement return specialist if Paul Bailey were to go down with an injury.

#25 - Brian Wood - CB - 6’2” - 177 - 24
A stark contrast from Green on the other side of the field, Wood will be picked on mercilessly by opposing quarterbacks. Inside ten yards he is fairly good, but beyond that he is a huge liability. Wood cannot keep up with fast receivers and, despite his height, is outjumped by taller ones. He does not provide any help in run support and usually forces the defensive coaches to run some sort of zone to support him. The coaches will be looking to replace Wood at the first chance that they can get.

#22 - Josh Sanders - CB - 6’1” - 172 - 22
Another tall guy, Sanders is also pretty small. He struggles to jam bigger receivers and gets pushed aside by run blockers. He has the raw speed that Wood lacks, but he is even worse technique wise and often gets called for pass interference penalties. Wood is almost exclusively used in nickel packages, and even then he has to split playing time with the backup safeties. The only reason why Sanders is on the team is because of his speed, and the lack of anyone to take his job.

Safeties
#47 - Anthony Bell - SS - 6’2” - 193 - 25
Bell is another mediocre defensive back for Southwick. He is very poor in pass coverage and often chooses the wrong receiver to follow, leaving the deep man open. Bell is good at the line and often helps out in the box, but that is not what the team really needs him for. The coaches have asked Bell to work on his coverage, but it has gone nowhere. Bell may not be the starter by the end of the tournament.

#43 - Phillip Kelly - SS - 6’1” - 190 - 21
A young up-and-comer, Kelly is Bell’s replacement-in-waiting. The coaches currently think he is too inexperienced to start, but it will be interesting to see how much of watching Bell struggle will be needed to change their minds. Kelly is faster than Bell and better in pass coverage. A little bit smaller, he does not provide the physical presence that Bell does in the box, but he plays with a cooler head and makes fewer mistakes. Kelly will definitely play in some nickel situations.

#42 - Shawn Diaz - FS - 6’1” - 185 - 23
Diaz is a heavy-hitter who sells out to get the ball carrier, or whoever he thinks has it anyway. He is easily fooled by play action passes and pump fakes, but when he does hit the ball carrier, the result is devastating. Diaz forces many fumbles and is fast enough to pick them up and return them. He is poor in zone and man-to-man coverage, but he does have enough speed to cover some of his mistakes. Diaz will be a serviceable starter on the Southwick secondary.

#46 - Scott Adams - FS - 6’0” - 188 - 24
Adams was the presumed starter heading into training camp, but Diaz outworked him and took his job away. Adams has a reputation for being lazy, one that he argues is unfair but others say is completely earned. Adams sometimes struggles to get back in coverage, whether by physical limitation or lack of will. He is not much of a force at the line and in the Southwick system, pass coverage skills are important for free safeties. Unless he can prove to the coaches that he cares is able to ditch the lazy tag, it looks like he won’t be starting anytime soon.

OOC: I should also have a preview RP up following the group draw. The report in this RP is false, but should be considered accurate ICly by my opponents prior to MD1. This report is from Sporting World, a publication from the Free Republics.

Report: Saintland's Prince Petrus may not be ready for World Bowl opener
By: Eric Furst

The World Bowl will be starting soon. While football fans outside of the FFR will be looking forward to watching their national teams face off to see who is the second best in the world, fans from Saintland have reason to be concerned about their team's chances. According to my sources, Prince Petrus is still injured and will not be ready for the start of the World Bowl.

The heir to Saintland's throne, Prince Petrus has gained an international reputation as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the multiverse. The Sanctii prince made a name for himself as Saintland's captain, playcaller and the catalyst of the explosive Sanctii offense. The Sanctii offense is considered one of the most complex offensive schemes ever run by any team.

Prior to his injury, Prince Petrus struggled to get the Sanctii offense in sync. When Prince Petrus is healthy, the Sanctii offense is dynamic and versatile. They can run virtually any play imaginable and their system emphasizes drastic and seemingly random changes in style of play. These changes can disorient an opposing defense, if the Sanctii can properly execute the plays. It is not uncommon for Prince Petrus to call a 5-wide pass on first down and a triple option on second down. This is the closest offensive equivalent to the relentless pressure that the "Organized Chaos" Sanctii defense can bring.

While the absence of Prince Petrus did not affect the ability of the Sanctii to compete at the Maple Leaf Bowl, the teams competing in that competition were not at the level of competition that they would face in the World Bowl. When the Sanctii faced Texacano in the finals of the Maple Leaf Bowl, they ended up in a shootout with the newcomers to the world of international football. In the end, they prevailed, even without Prince Petrus, in large part due to successful use of a quarterback rotation system.

Sources from within Saintland have informed Sporting World that Prince Petrus attempted to practice in advance of the World Bowl. The Sanctii captain is said to have moved very slowly on the practice field. My sources informed me that Prince Petrus did not appear very mobile on the practice field. It seems likely that Prince Petrus is not actually going to play. Despite this, the Sanctii likely wish to make it appear as if their captain will play, in order to throw off potential opponents. That way, the opponents of the Sanctii will have to gameplan around stopping a dynamic mobile quarterback that can break a game open on any given play. If they stated what appears obvious, that Prince Petrus is not playing, then they'd make it easier for opposing teams to prepare for the Sanctii team that they will actually face. Regardless, Saintland's football team has to be considered one of the favorites to win the upcoming World Bowl and I think Paulus Salvius and Thomas Ulpius, using their quarterback rotation scheme, can probably gain revenge against the Equestrian States, a nation that those that follow Rule Theriault's soccer teams should know very well by now. I don't think anypony can stop the Sanctii from getting their revenge for the events that happened during the Mud Bowl gowl, whether or not Prince Petrus is playing.

Eric Furst is a lifelong football fan. Born in Falkamore, Eric played the sport for his high school. A backup fullback that rarely made it off the bench, Eric was not offered the chance to play at any college or university. He decided to go to the University of Nejax and major in sports journalism. Eric unsuccessfully attempted to walk-on to the Nejax Horns, but was unable to make the team. Instead, he reported on the team for the University's newspaper.

Iqaluit Stadium, Nunavut
Capacity: 97,850
Built,Open Date: 7.14.1932. 9.6.1932.
Renovation: 2011

Located in Iqaluit, the northernmost city of Quebec with the population of 585,000,it's one of the most intimidating stadiums in Gridiron Football. Best known as the home of the University of Iqaluit, It is, for the every single game, packed out with crazy fans who doesn't mind being stacked into the stands or seats to watch their team play. The crowds at the stadium has always been loud and rowdy. Everything they do(when cheering for their team) is orchestrated, everything they do has got some kind of hand motion and yelling, A lot of which are profane and offending.

Weather is no better for the opposing team either. In this part of the year, the average temperature of Iqaluit's approximately -17'C in night-time, with extreme chances of snowing expected during games.
Therefore, with the combination of those 2 aspects, it's going to be a difficult venue for the opposing teams to play.

Notes.
1. All the games that are played in the stadium will start in approx. 17:30.
2. Due to the harsh climate in the area, all Football players are recommended(though not mandatory) to wear an additional clothing with sleeves to protect themselves from freezing to death.

Head Coach: Buck Naters, 78

Strategy: On offence, Naters uses a 2 RB set and uses a smashmouth running attack to force the safeties to watch the RB and then airs it out deep to the wideouts and uses the TE either as a blocker or a receiver. On defense, Naters uses a complex zone blitz scheme that involves LB's and DE's dropping in and out of zone coverage changing blitzing schemes while the CB's play man on the outside helped out by the safeties to watch any deep pass

The Karditan Ironworkers

Coming mostly from the rough streets of Detrot and Sinsinatti, the Ironworkers are the biggest and the strongest that managed to bash their way onto the national gridiron. They specialize in stopping the other team cold, delivering quick crushing hits that'll make your jaw rattle just watching. They have no particular preference on how to start drives; some call it a lack of focus, we call it flexibility. Passing and running can and will be used on all downs, forcing the opponents to constantly readjust and guess. (To be honest, the kicker and the defense combined often outscore the offense.) Of course all pegasus competitors play with their wings tied to be fair.

Home games will be played at the Construction Site, a 107,050-seat "stadium" in Detrot. It isn't a stadium in the traditional sense; it is actually a dirt field with a massive amount of portable bleachers and seated scaffolding that allow for the large capacity. The dirt is forgiving enough that you won't break something every time you land hard, but you're certainly more likely hurt yourself than on a grass/astroturf field.

A giant space station is seen flying in space, the scene closes in to revial a command center with Chad and JR.

Chad: Hey dudes, me and JR got this fancy new space station to monitor all sports for presentation to Zerabithea.

JR: Yeah brah, they must of finally realized how deserving we were of this honor.

*the two high five each other*

Chad: At any rate let's get the roster out for all our viewers at home!

Roster notes: a few positions will have two names as those players are slowly being transitioned in to replace those getting close to retiring. The exception being the QBs as the Rams run a dual QB offense. If a position has two names, ether is acceptable for a event.

Damn those cheating Regulars! Once again, those cheating bastards stole a title from us. Yes they didn't win the title themselves, but we would've if not for them. We will pay any team any amount of money if they can beat them in the playoffs. We're serious. Any amount. And yes its a bounty. The more players they have injured during that game, the more we will pay. Contact the QGA at 1-944-567-4567 for more details. Oh and if the Fanboyists want to be paid a very, very, very generous stipend for "not playing up to potential..."; they can call the same number.

The last time the Sarzonian national gridball team missed competing in a World Bowl, the team drastically changed the squad including the head coach.

This time, the team will be the same as the one that qualified for pool play with a 7-3 record in qualifying, including Arthur Paige, who was originally slated to be the team's offensive coordinator. He will keep the same coaching staff he had the last time Sarzonia competed in the World Bowl.

The Stars hope to improve on their performance in the previous World Bowl after losing three straight World Bowl pool play matches after a 21-14 win over Cosumar in their first match.

"It left us with a bad taste in our mouths," Paige said. "When the [Incorporated Sarzonian Gridball Federation]" decided not to send us to the last World Bowl, all we could do was seethe. Now it's go time."

If there's one sign of stability on this team after the absence from the previous World Bowl, it's quarterback Gavin Davis, who returns for at least more run as the starting quarterback. He said he wasn't thinking about retirement.

"We've got unfinished business right now," he said. "I'll address it when it's time. Now isn't that time."

Head coach: Arthur Paige (48 years old)
Offensive coordinator: Nate Lansing (38)
Offensive line coach: Kenny Bridger (38)
Defensive coordinator: Kirk Olivadotti (44 years old)
Offence: Run-oriented (-2 modifier)
Defensive style: Base 4-3
Two-point conversion modifier: LOGICAL
Home surface: Grass (Joe Gibbs Stadium, Woodstock - capacity 75,900)

If my opponent RP's our game first, they may:
Choose my scorers: Yes
Choose scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: NO
Godmod injuries: No
Godmod "other" events: Nothing beyond stuff like heavy rains, strong winds, nervous players having trouble sleeping and the like. No killing players or blowing up stadia.

QB Gavin Davis (Portland Pirates) 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, 30 years old (not a big scrambler, but has enough mobility to get out of the pocket. Big arm, bigger leadership)
RB: Clancy Taylor (Truxtun Commodores), 6-foot, 214 pounds, 27 years old (power runner, decent at catching passes, but would not be split wide)
WR: Matt Santana (Woodstock Waves), 5-foot-9, 182 pounds, 30 years old (team's deep threat)
WR: Clayton Williams (Rypien Renegades) 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, 26 years old (possession receiver)
WR: Jon Felton (Burlington Vipers) 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, 28 years old (Can either catch the possession pass or the deep ball)
TE: Marc Johnson (Wilmington Roughnecks) 6-foot-3, 245 pounds, 32 years old (a blocker and not the best pass catcher in the world)
LT: Ernie Melvin (Woodstock), 6-foot-3, 320 pounds, 29 years old
LG: Nate Felton (Corcorran Cruisers), 6-foot-2, 319 pounds, 24 years old
C: Tommy Ogden (Truxtun), 6-foot-1, 330 pounds, 28 years old
RG: George Cowley (Portland), 6-foot-4, 316 pounds, 33 years old
RT: Brett Cross (Rypien), 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, 31 years old (identical twin of former right tackle Cody Cross)

DEFENSIVE STARTERS:
DE: Louie Ruffin (Nicksia), 6-foot-3, 295 pounds, 25 years old
DT: Drew Williams (Portland), 6-foot-2, 320 pounds, 32 years old

Sometimes comes in when the offence runs Jumbo (3 tight ends, 1 wide receiver) or Heavy Jumbo (four tight ends, no receivers)

What a difference a previous World Bowl makes for Arthur Paige.

He recalled being interviewed for the position as offensive coordinator. He talked about opening up the offence and throwing the ball 40, 50 times a game. He talked about using young Joe Locklear in a read option pistol offence. He even discussed throwing in some wishbone offence.

When he was told Gavin Davis had decided he wanted to come pack to play quarterback, he smiled and said, "never mind."

As soon as he heard that, Sarzonian national gridball team manager Calvin Price said he knew he had the right coordinator.

"That told me he knows how to adapt to the personnel he has," Price said. "I also got good reports from the teams he worked with as an offensive coordinator."

Price was in his third day of meetings with the position coaches on the offensive side of the ball when his mobile rang. It was Price.

"Cal, I'm in the middle of my meeting. Can this wait until I'm done?"

"No. It's very important you stop by my office straight away."

"For what reason?"

"I can't tell you now."

Curious and a bit nervous, Paige walked into the room and saw Price with several other people he recognised from the Incorporated Sarzonian Gridball Federation.

"Have a seat," Price said.

"Can you tell us a little bit about your leadership philosophy when it comes to how coordinators under you would operate?" Price began.

"I'm sorry?" Paige said, showing a little bit of confusion.

"I'm sorry, I thought you knew," said Candais Parker, who was a director on the Board of Governors. "We're interviewing you for the head coaching position."

"Me? I thought Mark was the coach."

"Mark just resigned," Parker said. Mark Rypien had been named head coach and he had already started poring over game film and was discussing philosophies with Paige and defensive coordinator Kirk Olivadotti. Paige had felt the meeting he was now sitting through was keeping him away from the report he was supposed to deliver to Rypien within the hour about the team's personnel and how it would adapt to the new offensive formations and terminology.

"He resigned? Any idea why?"

"Personal reasons. He didn't want to elaborate," Price said.

I suppose it will come out eventually, Paige thought. In the meantime, he knew he had to gear up for the unexpected interview and fast. He didn't even have a chance to change into a suit and tie for this interview. He was wearing track pants, a long sleeve T-shirt and sneakers. There was still a mark of sweat from the 10-kilometre run he'd just logged about two hours prior.

He talked about how he felt Olivadotti and any potential offensive coordinator should be free to decide how to run their respective sides of the ball. He talked about running short, crisp practices. He talked about professionalism. Most of all, he talked about pride in being a Sarzonian gridball player. He talked about maintaining a standard.

After he'd made the rounds with handshakes and walked out of the room, he'd thought he bombed the interview. He wasn't ready and it showed. However, what he didn't realise was how strong an impression he'd made. Two hours later, the next call he had was from Price offering him the head coaching position.

Fast forward to World Bowl XXI. He guided the team to an 8-6 record overall, including a 7-3 mark in qualifying for the World Bowl proper. His team gave world No. 9 Osarius all it could handle in both matches, falling short 17-9 at Joe Gibbs Stadium and losing in overtime in the away fixture. The team's 1-3 fade during the pool stage of the proper was a downer, but Paige had something to build on.

Then the ISGF didn't field a team for World Bowl XX. Actually, it was the Department of Health and Athletics following the directive of lieutenant president Grant Haffner. Sarzonia wouldn't be sending any teams anywhere for a while. It was only the re-emergence of Delaclava and the Scott Cup that coaxed the Stars out of their brief period of isolation. And it brought Sarzonia here, to compete once again in the World Bowl.

For his part, Paige is excited to be back. It's the first time he really had a chance to set some roots as a head coach and start to build his philosophy. He chose to keep the coaches and the players from the previous World Bowl team. He chose to allow the coordinators to keep the same systems they ran previously. Offensive coordinator Nate Lansing decided to lean more heavily on the ground game but both he and Paige said they weren't afraid to have Davis wing it if necessary.

"It's Gavin Davis," they both said in unison.

"If we have to throw the ball 70 times, we think we've got as good a chance as anybody," Lansing said.

"I'm not crazy," Paige added.

He's not. He looked over the throng of media and smiled. It was a different feeling knowing that he would be the head coach of the team and the memories of his brief handful of days as offensive coordinator became more and more distant.

Nation: Federal Republic of Allamunnic States
Official Nickname: The Regulars
Unofficial Nicknames: The Blue-and-Grey, Allamunnae

Head Coach: Ryan Smart (Age: 41)
Head coach Ryan Smart, now finally in his forties and actually older than all of his players, is arguably the most successful coach in World Bowl history to this point; in his nine World Bowls (plus one invitational tournament), he has posted a 104-2-27 record (.782 win percentage) and has won three World Bowl championships in four consecutive finals berths entering World Bowl XX. Smart has resumed play-calling duties this year in his quest for a record fourth championship for the Allamunnic States.

General Manager: Benjamin Jameson (Age: 59) – Jameson is a behind-the-scenes wizard who has managed to turn an underfunded and underperforming Allamunnic national side into a perennial championship contender, loading the team with talent, and retaining veterans and bringing in fresh blood in equal parts. Recent moves suggest that he may be going along with Allamunnic Sporting Commissioner Hadley Thornburger's request to shrink the team a little bit, by opting not to replace some departing players. Of course, as players have left the team, Jameson appears to have done an excellent job working with Coach Smart to replace them.

Special Teams Coordinator: Harvey O'Bannon (Age: 64) – Special teams have long been a weakness for this team, although O'Bannon has managed to make it less of a problem in recent years; the special teams lost the Regulars many a game in past years, but Harvey has managed to ensure that it at least isn't a damning problem for a championship-winning team.

Offensive Coaching Staff
Offensive Coordinator: Baeryk Vaalburger (Age: 46) – Vaalburger called the plays for all of World Bowl XIX. However, due to the number of departures along the line and the need to focus on keeping the quality of the line high, Vaalburger has shifted to a personnel-manager type of offensive coordinator; plays will be called by head coach Ryan Smart.

Quarterbacks Coach: John McClelland (Age: 54) – The fact that the Allamunnic national team's revolving door at quarterback seems to have ceased is at least partially due to McClelland's work teaching and developing Leif Erikson, who has all the tools necessary to be the team's "franchise quarterback" (as it were). The man is a very experienced coach who lasted a long time in a league that's not usually terribly kind to quarterbacks before playing a few years as a back-up for the national team, giving him a little taste of international gridiron prior to coaching.

Running Backs Coach: Willy Zimmermann (Age: 59) – Zimmermann has long presided over a deep and explosive running back corps. Zimmermann has seen several backs come and go, and unfortunately this is probably the thinnest backfield he's had to work with in a long time; apart from offensive fulcrum Danyl Wyndhorst, the Regulars have a 31-year-old power back, a broken-down old veteran, and a true fullback. That said, expect him to get plenty of mileage out of the running backs, helping them live up to their enormous potential.

Receivers Coach: Zack Quinn (Age: 63) – Quinn is an old receiver who played in a domestic league that wasn’t exactly receiver friendly, and managed to do well in spite of that and in spite of being of more or less average talent. Quinn has arguably the tallest order of his coaching career ahead of him, as he will have to take three receivers who have received anywhere from some to very little playing time over the last several years and turn them into a world-beating unit.

Offensive Line Coach: Baeryk Vaalburger (Age: 46) – Baeryk is the son of former national team coach Staevan Vaalburger, and, like his father, played offensive line in college and in the pros. Lacking some of the bulk necessary for a good lineman, Baeryk found himself out of the league within five years, but has since made a living as an excellent teaching coach, and he is taking over for Rodriksunn after his departure. Look for the line under Vaalburgur to remain as strong as always.

Defensive Coaching Staff:
Defensive Coordinator: Jethro Myers (Age: 46) - With Danny Rickenbacker leaving for a head coaching job with the Vienna Barons, the next-most-senior defensive coach on the Regulars was linebackers coach Jethro Myers, who was promoted to head up a traditionally-staunch defensive unit. In terms of the overall scheme, don't expect many changes to the Regulars' multifront defense. However, due to his greater familiarity with the personnel at linebacker positions, don't be surprised to see the Regulars making greater use of the 3-4 as a base front over the 4-3.

Defensive Line Coach: Theodur Laansur (Age: 38) - After retiring as a player from the Regulars, nosetackle Theo Laansur followed Elias Mourner's path by joining the Regulars' coaching staff, replacing the departed Danny Rickenbacker as the defensive line coach. A sixteen year career on the line means that the towering Laansur has learned a thing or two to pass on to a very young defensive line.

Linebackers Coach: Jethro Myers (Age: 46) – The general improvement in the linebacking corps is most-likely attributed to Myers' coaching; as a former Ironmongers linebacker, he knows his position as well as anyone, even if he wasn't the best at it, physically; if anything, that ensured that he learned the position all the better to compensate for a lack of innate talent.

Secondary Coach: Elias Mourner (Age: 41) – After spending two years as a player-coach, Mourner announced his retirement from playing following the World Bowl XIX championship game. He quickly received an offer from Ben Jameson and Coach Smart to make his unofficial position of two years an official one, and Mourner finally officially joined the Regulars’ coaching staff.

Home Stadium:
Federal Steel Field, Thomasburg (Stalhamark)
Note: Because the Allamunnic national team is used to playing during inclement weather, and IC'ly the World Bowl is during the winter in the Federation, teams that play games at Federal Steel Field should assume as a matter of course that it will be snowing during the game. I'll try and put a "weather forecast" ahead of time so that they know, but a good assumption is that it will suck for teams used to warm weather.
RP Info and Permissions:
Style Modifier: +2
Choose Scorers: I'd rather you didn't. If you do choose my scorers, if I RP within twenty-four hours, I may ask you to change my scorers. This is due to specific story-lines and characters I may want to emphasize.
Injure Players: You may injure my players; I'd prefer you not injure more than two or three in a game, and while the injury may end the player's involvement in that game, I will decide on any further inactivity for a player caused by injury.
Penalize Players: Any team considered to be a rival of the Allamunnic States (i.e. Qazox, Cassadaigua, Civil Citizenry), pretty much gets a pass to do this at will; those games may slip into 'dirty' territory. Anyone else may penalize, but should keep it realistic.
Godmod Injuries: Yes, but with same provisos as injuring players through normal means. I determine severity outside game-ending (for the player).
Godmod Other Events: Don't kill anyone or conflict with any of the above permissions. Also, if you're gonna do this, have some fun with it.
Photographs: Please do not use photographs with any players intended to depict players on my team.
Note: All players have stats of Age, Height, Weight, Tendencies, College, and Hometown provided, along with a brief description.
Additional Note: Blitz-heavy does not even begin to describe the Allamunnic defense; if you're outside of the Top Ten or not an Allamunnic rival, I'd appreciate it if you at least made a note of any success on the ground being difficult. Moreover, whether or not they're sacks, opposing QB's tend to get hit a lot. They might well be successful, but try to keep in mind that your QB (again, unless you're in the Top Ten or one of my rivals) will likely be getting smacked around a lot. (Credit where credit is due: Cassadaigua first put this sort of note in, and it seemed to be a good idea, so I've followed suit).
Team Captains (Coin-Toss Purposes):
Offense: Leif Erikson (QB)
Defense: Honorius Waalturs (DE)
Special Teams: Wayne Scott (P)

Overview:
The Regulars missed the World Bowl Finals last year for the first time in five World Bowl cycles. In the four World Bowls prior to the 20th, they had been the most dominant team in the world, going 56-5 in that span, reaching the finals four consecutive times, and winning three of those finals trips. However, courtesy of a large number of departures, the team bears less and less resemblance to the world beaters of World Bowls XVI - XIX.

Offense:
Style: Power-Oriented Pro-Style
Primary Front: Two-Wide, Two-Tight-End
Starting Line-Up (3-Wide, Single-Back, Pro Formation)
Rolle -- Kelley --- Bloem -- Lohr -- Saenmikel -- Wurfytur -- Rikken --- Braanur -- Fokkenmaar
Erikson
Wyndhorst

Overview:
With head coach Ryan Smart returning to play-calling, the team will likely look to return to its old ‘balance-first’ ways, rather than their almost pure smashmouth approach from last year. This shift is likely necessitated by the loss of tailback Myra Dercyk to the domestic league, along with the loss of some talent along the offensive line, combined with the emergence of some versatile receiving targets. It appears that Leif Erikson will have to step up as a gunslinger to lead this team. That said, when the going gets tough, don’t be surprised if the Regulars return to their long-held ground-and-pound ways. After all, they won three championships that way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Quarterbacks:

QB#9 Leif Erikson - Age: 25; H: 6'3"; W: 237lbs - Balanced - Innsbruck University - Muhlenburg, Ostrea – Erikson is, for lack of a better term, the frustratingly-inconsistent "franchise QB" for the Regulars. He's got the frame, and he's got the arm, and apparently the instincts, too. His only problem is that he varies on any given day between efficient game manager, gunslinger, and offensive disaster. As much talent drain as this team has had, Erikson needs to be more consistent if the Regulars want to return to the finals after missing out last year.

QB#15 John Painter – Age: 33; H: 6’3”; Weight: 223lbs – Pocket Passer – St. Theodore Catholic College – Vanderburg, Ostrea – Painter is a solid, but unremarkable quarterback; he has what one might call “pro” arm strength, but is not especially strong-armed. He lacks much in the way of mobility outside the pocket, but his ability to move around in the pocket is solid. He’s reasonably accurate and generally won’t hang his receivers out to dry, but there are clear limits to his abilities.

QB#19

Running Backs

HB#27 Danyl Wyndhorst - Age: 24; H: 5'11"; W: 224lbs - Balanced - UT Copenhagen - Shieldsburg, Tyrrswatch - Danyl is possibly the most dangerous weapon on this offense, and has played a crucial role in all three campaigns that he's been involved in. A runner in the mold of Haanryk Stahlburg, Wyndhorst's absurd mix of power and break-away speed has made him one of the most productive backs on any team, and has essentially made him the offense's security blanket. Wyndhorst is at his best running up the middle, which is good, since the offense's bread-and-butter is running the trap, counter, and the dive.

HB#44 – Ole Nurdsunn – Age: 31; H: 6’1”; W: 253lbs – Power – UT Copenhagen – Copenhagen, Tyrrswatch – Nurdsunn has made a name for himself over the last several years as a back who is almost pure power. He's not slow, per se, but he's not going to blaze past anyone, and it’s his power that is his greatest strength, running over tacklers like a freight-train. Nurdsunn has returned to halfback and ball-carrier duties, and should see time especially on third-downs (being a good short-yardage rusher and a good pass-protector). He's also sturdy; at an age when many tailbacks are in decline or are on the verge of hitting a wall, Nurdsunn shows no signs of losing a step or being any more prone to injury than ever.

HB#35 - Walder Brant - Age: 33; H: 5'10"; W: 231lbs - Balanced - Thomasburg State University - Uniontown, Stalhamark - Brant is a thirteen-year AGL veteran, and it shows; the man is battered and worn, the subject of numerous surgeries, and has only traces of the explosiveness that once served him well. However, what he lacks in raw physical ability he makes up for in veteran cunning and skill, getting yards where by all account he should not be able to. Seeing as he is only meant to spell Wyndhorst, Brant should be up to the role that he has been brought in to fulfill.

FB#40 John Kaiser - Age: 29; H: 6'2"; W: 260lbs - Power - Northwatch State University - Meuse, Northwatch – Kaiser, unlike Nurdsunn (who sometimes plays a fullback), is a true fullback, recruited to be a dedicated position player. With the Regulars returning to three-wide sets more, Kaiser will probably see reductions in his playing time, but the fact is that the Regulars still make heavy use of their fullback, and Kaiser will continue to be a valuable asset for the team. Expect to especially see him employed in the Regulars' infamous "Clydesdale" package, which features him at fullback and Nurdsunn at tailback.

Tight Ends:

TE#89 - Garrett Kelley - Age: 29; H: 6'4"; W: 252lbs - Balanced - Northwatch State University - Northwatch, Northwatch - Kelley has proven to not only be a reliable target, but has turned out to be one of Erikson's favorites, and it's easy to see why; the guy gets open, and he catches the ball, and even if he's not wide receiver-material, he has enough burst to make plays once he's caught the ball.

TE#85 – Goedwyn Braanur – Age: 20; H: 6’5”; W: 265lbs – Balanced – Leif’s Harbor College – Rumanika, Skraelingia – Following a strong performance on Matchday Six of World Bowl XXI, Braanur was moved up the depth chart and began seeing more playing time as the Regulars switched to using more two-tight-end sets. Braanur has demonstrated an ability to make tough catches in traffic, and looks like he has a little more burst than Kelley. His inexperience is the only reason he hasn't cracked the starting line-up, yet.

TE#82 – Peter Fredrikson – Age: 33; H: 6’4”; W: 261lbs – Blocking – Bowler State University – Danielson, Piekslynd – Fredrikson was brought in to add some depth to the tight-ends. He’s not the most gifted tight-end out there, but he’s certainly up to the task of replacing Kelley, should he go down. He catches things that are thrown his way, even if he's not as good as Kelley at getting open. He is, however, a little bit better when it comes to blocking.

Wide Receivers:

WR#87 – Izaak Rolle – Age: 28; H: 6’3”; W: 218lbs – Balanced - None - Vienna, Ostrea – With Mikel Dunn and Willy Theodore gone, Izaak Rolle’s time in the sun has finally come; emerging as a true dynamic deep threat, Rolle earned himself the #1 receiver slot out of training camp. He has the size, speed, and the hands to be an elite receiver, and he’s likely to make some big plays.

WR#86 – Hael Fokkenmaar – Age: 27; H: 6’4”; W: 232lbs – Balanced – Innsbruck University – Udunsfurd, Skraelingia – Following the team's shift to more two-tight sets, Fokkenmaar leapfrogged an under-performing Devin Smith to take over the #2 WR's spot. Fokkenmaar is a big target who has a natural talent for making tough catches, especially in traffic, and if he lacks Rolle and Smith's speed, his reliability is enough to make up for it.

WR#80 – Devin Smith – Age: 28; H: 6’4”; W: 215lbs – Balanced – US Thomasburg – Thomasburg, Stalhamark – Smith pissed away a starting spot by failing to get open through five games, eventually sliding down to the team's sixth-leading pass-catcher after young TE Braanur surpassed him with only a single game's production. Smith still has plenty of talent, and he'll probably get plenty of reps out of the slot, but his removal from a starting role is telling.

WR#81 – Ryan Sherman - Age: 29; H: 6'0"; W: 200lbs - Speed - University of Copenhagen - Tyrrswatch, Tyrrswatch - Sherman was brought in two years ago as primarily a return-man and a reserve receiver. He's nothing special, but he's got some good speed to contribute, and should prove useful. Sherman will largely work in the slot when he's in. Serves as a kick and punt returner.

WR#84 – Edryk Waalturs – Age: 21; H: 6’1”; W: 210lbs – Balanced – University of Ostrea – Broomfield – Udunsfurd, Skraelingia – Waalturs is a young receiver brought in to begin developing and to serve as a low-order rotating player to give some depth to a receiving corps decimated by departures. Waalturs is an excellent overall receiver, talent-wise, but is a little on the raw-side.

WR#83 - Braant Skyllur - Age: 21; H: 6'3"; W: 214lbs - Balanced - UO Leif's Harbor - Broomfield, Ostrea - Skyllur is a new face on the team, brought in to add depth and build the next generation of receivers. Skyllur's got the size and speed to be an elite reciever, but he's a little too prone to dropping passes to be considered reliable at the moment.

Offensive Line:

LT#61 – Danyl Bloem - Age: 26; H: 6'5"; W: 328lbs - Balanced - US Thomasburg - Dunnmaar, Stalhamark - Bloem steps up to the starting left-tackle role, protecting Leif Erikson’s blind-side. Bloem’s shown himself to be a lock-down pass-protector and a strong blocker, making him effective both in the rushing and passing attacks.

LT#70 – Carolus Hoenzorn – Age: 26; H: 6’3”; W: 325lbs – Balanced – Fredrick University – Fredrik, Tyrrswatch – Hoenzorn is a tackle out of Fredrick University who, compared to the other left tackles on the Allamunnic squad, is somewhat undersized. That said, he’s certainly not too small to do the job, and it’s left him with a scrappy attitude.

LT#75 – Ulf Blaekhulm – Age: 22; H: 6’5”; W: 344lbs – Balanced – Vanderburg College – Sleipnirshuld, Skraelingia – Blaekhulm is a big, physical, young tackle out of Vanderburg who’s a little on the raw side, but is good enough to potentially rotate in during games. He should add some depth to the line, and should step up more as he matures.

LG#54 – Junn Lohr - Age: 27; H: 6'2"; W: 312lbs - Balanced - UT Copenhagen - Skarrsboro, Skraelingia - Lohr is a vicious blocker working opposite from the veteran Hanrik Wurfytur. The guards are the key components to the Regulars’ rushing attack, so it’s a good thing that Lohr takes great joy in delivering hard hits and denying defensive players their plays.

LG#56 – Ryan Grimm – Age: 26; H: 6’1”; W: 312lbs – Balanced – UO Vienna/St. Theodore – Tyrrswatch, Tyrrswatch – Grimm’s another aggressive blocker who will be expected to help power the team’s rushing attack as a regularly-rotating guard. Grimm’s at his best when he can just put a hand in the dirt and get into a scrap.

LG#50 – Derrik Hael - Age: 26; H: 6'2"; W: 314lbs - Balanced - Leif's Harbor College - Saen Mikel, Skraelingia - Hael doesn't take quite the same glee in blindsiding people that some of the guards do. It isn’t that he doesn't enjoy it, but his main joy comes from stonewalling cocky defensive linemen, instead.

C#73 – Durik Saenmikel - Age: 29; H: 6’4”; W: 320lbs – Balanced – USk Skarrsboro - Saen Maarkus, Skraelingia - Saenmikel plays with the same mentality as most Allamunnic guards, which means he's a nasty blocker, and tends to enjoy taking on nose-tackels one-on-one, a task he seems more than up to.

C#66 – Haanryk Suldurmunn - Age: 27; H: 6'2"; W: 314lbs - Balanced - USk Skarrsboro - Aaldurhaal, Skraelingia - Suldurmunn is a more than capable backup to Saenmikel, and is another blocker who enjoys hitting opponents maybe just a little too much. Though his listed position is center, don’t be surprised if he’s used to spell the guards every now and then.

C#65 – Fraans Boltun – Age: 22; Height: 6’3”; W: 317lbs – Balanced – Skarrsboro Federal University – Skarrsboro, Skraelingia – Boltun is a smart, quick-thinking, and rock-solid center out of Skarrsboro Federal. He’s inexperienced, so he’s a third-stringer, but the fact is, he can and will rotate and has all the physical and mental tools to be one day be an excellent center.

RG#63 – Hanrik Wurfytur – Age: 35; H: 6’2”; W: 326lbs – Balanced – US Dunnmaar – Skarrsboro, Skraelingia – Wurfytur is the oldest lineman still serving on the Allamunnic line, agreeing to return after contemplating a move to the domestic league after World Bowl 19. Wurfytur is arguably the anchor of the line, providing some stability for a unit that lost four of its five starters. He is an absolutely vicious blocker and, like certain other linemen, takes an almost-sadistic glee in flattening defensive players.

RG#53 – Roderik Laansur – Age: 27; H: 6’0”; W: 307lbs – Balanced – Leif’s Harbor College – Vienna, Ostrea – Laansur is now serving as a second-string guard who’s a bit on the small side, but is an absolutely destructive blocker. He loves nothing better than being a pulling guard and getting to blow up hapless defenders.

RG#62 – Erik Maarks – Age: 22; H: 6’2”; W: 314lbs – Balanced – Maarks is a developing guard who adds some depth at the absolutely vital guard position. Maarks should develop into an excellent guard who will likely step up to second-string whenever Hanrik Wurfytur eventually decides to call it a career. Still, he’ll get playing time even now.

RT#52 – Vaalhulm Rikken – Age: 29; H: 6’6”; W: 332lbs – Balanced – Rumanika College – Kristinburg, Tyrrswatch – Partially due to his size, Rikken has stepped up into the starting right tackle’s role, helping to drive the outside rushing attack and playing an absolutely crucial role in pass protection.

RT#74 – Theodur Fokkenmaar – Age: 26; H: 6'3"; W: 324lbs – Balanced – Leif's Harbor College – Leif's Harbor, Ostrea – Fokkenmaar is a right tackle who's good at both pass protection and run blocking, and takes a great amount of satisfaction in doing both effectively.

RT#76 – Hanrik Jorgesunn – Age: 22; H: 6’4”; W: 337lbs – Balanced – University of Stahlburg – Dunnmaar, Stalhamark – Part of a new generation of developing players, Jorgesunn is a young, strong tackle who has proven to be very useful and more than capable of making immediate contributions to the offense.

Defense:
Style: Blitz-Heavy, Multi-front
Primary Front: 3-4, although 4-3 is still utilized.
Starting Line-Up (3-4 Base)
Baaldr ----- Jorgesun ----- H. Waalturs
Staalhelm -- Lindburgh -- K. Waalturs -- Vicious
Marquette --- Jackson --- Dahlhorst --- Ierunmungur

Overview:
Defense wins championships. That statement was pretty much gospel to the Allamunnic gridiron squad, but two solid years of departures and declining play among older veterans has left the once-great defense in a state of transition. Nobody can deny that the talent is there, but the chemistry that helped make the Allamunnic defense the best in the world top-to-bottom has been lost, and it may take another full cycle for it to be reestablished with the units' new leaders.

The elder statesmen of the defense are still pass-rushing defensive end Honorius Waalturs (who continues to play like a man a decade younger) and cornerback Andrik Ierunmungur (who seems similarly ageless). Meanwhile, another longtime stalwart, Theo Laansur, retired from the team, leaving a vacuum of established players on the interior of the defensive line. For the first time in years, veteran defensive end Archie Wagner was unable to win a starting job out of camp, and will now rotate on the defensive line.

Defensive Linemen:

DT#90 – Gaarutt Jorgesun - Age: 27; H: 6’4”; W: 324lbs – Balanced – UT Zagreb - Copenhagen, Tyrrswatch - Jorgeson gave solid service the last few years, giving the coaches even less to worry about where the future of the defense is concerned; the man is strong enough that he's actually capable of playing as a nose or standard defensive tackle, and he's finding himself the starter with Theo Laansur's retirement.

DT#91 – Waldr Baersvylk – Age: 21; H: 6’11”; W: 342lbs – Balanced – US Dunnmaar – Shieldsburg, Tyrrswatch – Waldr was one of a large number of young, talented players brought in on the defense to compensate for a rash of departures last year. Baersvylk challenged Jorgesun for the starting nosetackle's job out of training camp, and he will be heavily utilized in 4-3 fronts, and is expected to step up as a starter in the near future; his inexperience is the only thing holding the immensely-talented, massive defensive tackle back.

DE#58 – Honorius Waalturs – Age: 34; H: 6’1”; W: 295lbs – Balanced – US Dunnmaar – Skarrsboro, Skraelingia – Waalturs is the marquee player on the defensive line for the team. Waalturs is very fast and strong, and tends to make most right tackles look like fools. As athletic as he is, it's no surprise that Waalturs is also very flexible, being usable as both a pass-rusher and an outside-run-stopper. He possesses an impressive work-ethic and is as civil and polite as they come on and off the field, which has a jarring dissonance with his tendency to slam people violently to the ground between the whistles.

DE#99 – Henrik Baaldr – Age: 22; H: 6’2”; W: 301lbs – Balanced - US Dunnmaar – Dunnmaar, Stalhamark – Even though Baaldr did not make as much of an impact as many would have liked as a rookie, he flashed enough potential and was enough of a credit to the defensive line that he earned himself a starting spot as a defensive end. Although he doesn't seem to have Honorius Waalturs' knack for making plays, Baaldr is very talented and there's every reason to hope he might develop into a star one day.

DL#96 – Rikard Theodur – Age: 21; H: 6’4”; W: 315lbs – Balanced – Skarrsboro Federal – Rone, Stalhamark – Another member of the wave of young talent brought in before World Bowl XX, Theodur is built right along the borderline between large defensive end and small defensive tackle, meaning he sees playing time in a variety of fronts. His versatility also encompasses his abilities, as he is capable of rushing the passer, playing the run, and even (insofar as defensive linemen are ever called on to do so) some small talent in coverage.

DE#98 – Archie Wagner - Age: 34; H: 6’2”; W: 302lbs – Balanced – UO Vienna/St. Theodore - Vienna, Ostrea - One of the team's most-established veterans, Wagner has finally felt his age catching up to him, and the thirty-four year old, despite still being a very competent defender, found himself dethroned from the starting defensive end role by a younger, more-talented player. Wagner will still see plenty of time, and will be trusted in a pinch if Baaldr should bungle his chance, but it's one more sign that a long-time Allamunnic stalwart's career is entering its twilight years.

Linebackers:

SAM#97 – Maarkus Staalhelm – Age: 22; H: 6’3”; W: 262lbs – Balanced – US Rone – Vymsburg, Piekslynd – Staalhelm exploded onto the scene last year as a surprisingly-effective player both against the run and the pass, both as a rusher and in coverage. Being able to seal down the strong side effectively even as a rookie saw Staalhelm secure the starting SAM linebacker role, and he looks likely to produce tackles and turnovers with more playing time this year.

MIKE#45 – Steven Lindburgh - Age: 26; H: 6'3"; W: 265lbs - Balanced - UO Innsbruck - Andersburg, Stalhamark – Lindburgh did a good job last year stepping up to lead an inexperienced linebacking unit, leading the unit in tackles and providing crucial leadership, helped by his excellent football IQ. Combine that with elite speed (both laterally and straight ahead) and being a textbook tackler with plenty of strength and weight behind him, and you have an all-around elite linebacker that any team would be glad to have.

BUCK#55 – Kyl Waalturs – Age: 22; H: 6’3”; W: 264lbs – Balanced – US Dunnmaar – Dunnmaar, Stalhamark – Waalturs enters his second year as the team's starting BUCK linebacker. Given playing time and the opportunities to prove himself, Waalturs stepped up on a talent-loaded defense. Although he doesn't put up the gaudy tackling numbers that Lindburgh does, Waalturs' solid work in coverage and against the run allow the playmakers around him to go out and do their thing.

WILL#41 – Danley Vicious - Age: 26; H: 6’2”; W: 247lbs – Pass Rusher – UO Vienna/St. Theodore - Grimmeburg, Piekslynd – An aggressive linebacker who more than lives up to his surname, Vicious has stepped up as the leading outside linebacker, both as a pass-rusher and edge-setter in the last several years with the team. He unfortunately spent most of last year on injured reserve, but has looked stronger and quicker than ever in training camp.

ILB#57 - Junn Haaldur - Age: 22; H: 6'2"; W: 261lbs - Balanced - Leif's Harbor College - Rone, Stalhamark - Haaldur is similar enough to Waalturs that there shouldn't be much of a drop off if he has to come in, even if he's looked a little less impressive in his game time and practice; physically, they're very similar, and Haaldur is plenty solid as a linebacker.

OLB#48 - William Cowl - Age: 25; Height: 6'2"; Weight: 260lbs - Balanced - Inneville Federal University - A new addition signed as a free agent out of the AGL, William Cowl is a solid linebacker who can be plugged in and played pretty much anywhere in the unit; although he's not as talented as some other players, he has the versatility to cover the pass, rush the quarterback, or play the run with competence. Thus, even though he is listed as an outside linebacker, it should not be surprising if he gets used on the interior, as well.

OLB#37 – Shawn Holmstrom - Age: 28; H: 6'2"; W: 260lbs - Balanced - UO Leif's Harbor - Shraedurpurt, Tyrrswatch - Holmstrom has settled in as a rotating player who sees the field plenty, and is only not a starter because of the explosive players who have landed ahead of him. However, he sees relief duty frequently, rotates freely with Staalhelm and Vicious, and is a dangerous linebacker in his own right.

Cornerbacks:

CB#23 – Andrik Ierunmungur – Age: 36; H: 6’3”; W: 215lbs – Balanced – Thomasburg State University – Daalfuurge, Stalhamark – Andrik had his best season in years last World Bowl, notching a very high number of interceptions, defensing a team-record number of passes and helping to lead a lock-down secondary (along with Elias Mourner) and getting a lot of team’s attention. Despite this, the strong and speedy corner decided to return, and has declared that he will retire a Regular.

CB#1 – Isabelle Marquette - Age: 29; H: 5’6”; W: 140lbs – Balanced – US Rone - Inneville, Fililund - Marquette's development over the last few years has seen her become the team's more exciting star cornerback. She has enough speed to hang with the fastest of the receivers, has a nose for the ball, and has the hands of a receiver, which makes throwing in her direction a dangerous prospect. That said, of the two starters, she's much more of a play-making corner and much less of a shut-down corner; she's more likely to give up the big play, but she's also more likely to make the big play.

CB#13 – Julius Harkness – Age: 30; H: 5’10”; W: 205lbs – Balanced – University of Copenhagen – Vimesburg, Piikslund – Harkness is a veteran reserve cornerback who has spent the last few years backing up Belle and Andrik. Harkness is a corner with a strong skill-set and is a strong tackler. While he probably won't force as many turnovers as Belle, he'll probably get a few here and there, and will shut down number-two receivers without too much problem.

CB#17 – John Tanner – Age: 27; H: 6'1"; W: 211lbs – Balanced – UO Vienna/St. Theodore – Leif's Harbor, Ostrea – Tanner is a solid all-around corner who should rotate in and out without slowing down the defense, and should be able to make a play here and there of his own.

Safeties:

FS#25 – Erik Dahlhorst – Age: 26; H: 6'1"; W: 210lbs – Balanced – Thomasburg State University – Copenhagen, Tyrrswatch – With Markus Josephus’ departure to the domestic league, Dahlhorst has been called on to step up into a larger starting role in the secondary. He’s athletic and a vicious tackler, and is in most respects very similar to his strong-safety partner, Jarrett Jackson, which is good, because it may be indicative of an ability for them to cover for one another and free up the other to make plays at opportune times. But, as he’s only a first-year starter, only time will tell if Dahlhorst is up to the job.

FS#22 – Leif Coelmunn – Age: 29; H: 6’0”; W: 231lbs – Coverage – Skarrsboro University – Rumanika, Skraelingia – Coelmunn is a solid all-around safety who is at his best when playing a responsibility. He can shut down receivers or sections of the field competently, leaving his defensive backfield partner free to make the really big plays.

SS#21 – Jarrett Jackson – Age: 26; H: 6’1”; W: 211lbs – Balanced – Bowler University – Tripoli, Southport – Jackson has been pushed into a starting role with the retirement of Elias Mourner, but he proved last year to be a playmaker and effective player in the secondary, and looks to be up to the job. Jackson is young and athletic, and is a hard hitter, so look for him to make a big impact in the coming years.

SS#18 – Michael Orton – Age: 22; H: 6’0”; W: 205lbs – Balanced – UO Old Bastion – Koenigshalloe, Ostlund – Orton is a new face recruited out of the University of Ostlund at Old Bastion, and while athletic, he is a very raw and unrefined safety; he’s most likely to be a last-ditch reserve, as Leif Coelmunn is more likely to fill in for either of the starters if injured. That said, if Orton develops as expected, within a few years he will likely be a fearsome defensive back.

Special Teams:

K#7 - Justin Connors - Age: 28; H: 6'0"; Weight: 192lbs - Place-Kicker - St. Mary's University - Connors has proven a capable replacement to long-time kicker Phillipa Demirici, and the team has come to rely on the place-kicker with the magic touch and a career long of 59 yards.

P#4 – Wayne Scott – Age: 26; H: 6'0"; W: 200lbs – Punter – Leif's Harbor College – Vimesburg, Piikslund – Wayne is an extremely competent punter, skilled at getting the "Crazy Corner" (as it's known among Allamunnic punters) and averaging 48 yards-per-punt in college. Special Teams Captain.

P/K#2 – Scott Ayres – Age: 36; H: 5’11”; W: 188lbs – Punter – Filia College – Inneville, Fililund – Ayres is a reserve punter and kicker, who can fill in for Connors or Scott if either of them should be injured.

LS#19 – Graham Long – Age: 32; H: 5’11”; W: 234lbs – Longsnapping – Greensford College – Naakstbaen, Ostlund – Long is a good, consistant long-snapper. Not much else to say.

LS#51 – Stephen Snaps – Age: 27; H: 6'1"; W: 203lbs – Long-Snapper – Leif's Harbor College – Dreichium, Dreichium – He's a long-snapper. There's not a whole lot to tell; he's consistant and accurate. What more is there?

Osarius Firebirds Gridiron Football Roster

Head Coach: Leon Saint
Though considered a living legend, Leon Saint is starting to come in for serious criticism from the notoriously expectant Osarian gridiron fans. After leading the national team to Baptism of Iron glory decades ago -- in what remains the sole tournament triumph by an Osarian national representative team in any sport outside the Olympics -- and leading the most successful gridiron team in Osarian history (Utica Bears) until his retirement ten years ago, Saint has slowly carved out a reputation as a stellar coach, following in the footsteps of his great mentors. It's not enough for a fanbase that has waited patiently to see their nation's senior stars fulfil the great promise shown at collegiate level. Almost as if to stack the odds even more heavily against him, Saint persists in selecting a large number of Utica-based players or graduates from his alma mater, most notably his younger brother Luke. If there is one thing Saint understands perfectly, though, it is the siege mentality. It's hard to believe this isn't on his mind when seemingly making things tougher for his charges.

Assistant Coaches: Xavier Camacho & Henri Toulalan
Both formerly of Utica University, and both familiar with Leon Saint, it's not a surprise at all that they are backing up the Utica alumnus. Camacho's tenure as Utica Tigers defensive co-ordinator was used against him last campaign, as Osarius' defense flattered to deceive when it really mattered. He can't use the excuse of inexperienced or mediocre players at his disposal, when his defensive unit contains so many first round draft picks from the Osarian Gridiron Football League. Toulalan, on the other hand, as a quarterback coach, is perhaps under less pressure. If the quarterbacks in the squad should fail to live up to expectation, head coach Saint will likely take the brunt of the criticisms. Toulalan's job is to get the rest of the offense working at prime efficiency. There are few doubts over his ability as a co-ordinator, but the idea persists that, on a national level, that kind of synergy is far easier to speak about than to put into practice. The suspension of the OSAGIF League last year, and subsequent "tour" by the national team may have gone a long way toward alleviating those concerns.

Home Stadium: The Benevolence Bowl, Dynapolis, Osarius (capacity 67,000)
The Benevolence Bowl hosts the national championship game in Osarian gridiron every year, despite the existence of the larger Mount Crown Stadium. Considered the cradle of Osarian gridiron, the 67,000 capacity arena in the south has the perfect atmosphere for the game. An atmosphere that simply can't be replicated at Mount Crown. The humid southern climate is considered an advantage for Osarius over visiting teams, who often struggle under the weight of the heat and the typically hostile Osarian stadium atmosphere, but it does mean the home side are forced to employ extensive personnel rotation. The most recent high profile game at the Benevolence Bowl was the final of NSCF 8, last month, meaning there are no concerns over the condition of the field.

Playing Style: West Coast Offense / 4-3 Defense
Typically, I RP most opposition yardage as occurring on the ground so I'd prefer if -- if you post before I do -- you RP'd my defense as having a very strong pass rush and a strong secondary, but that's not necessary.

Style modifier: +2
Colours: Red, Black and Gold

RP Permissions: Do whatever you like, as long as you don't kill or severely injure any players/staff without the green light. Just have fun, eh?

Full Roster

The Firebirds roster will remain practically the same as last campaign, following the suspension of the OSAGIF League in Osarius. Instead of competing for their respective franchises, the majority of the team have embarked on a "tour" of Rabastor, competing against various teams over the course of what would have been last season, in exhibition games. It is hoped that this extended period of time in close quarters will help the Firebirds' cohesion, and help them take that final step. The one that propels them beyond the quarter finals.

Summary by unit/position under each spoiler.

** Starters are in red
** Preferred second stringers are in blue

No Name Surname Ht. Wt. Position Contracted To College
07 Luke Saint 6-2 220 Quarterback Utica Bears Utica
09 Clayton Henderson 6-7 213 Quarterback Cartagena Wildcats Druz
14 Bradley Garden 6-2 209 Quarterback Corriere Trojans Utica
23 Harrison Ryan 5-10 220 Runningback Greeningham Giants Lindenhurst
26 Zane Daley 5-11 201 Fullback Crown Valley Cougars No College
33 Alexander Hayes 5-11 211 Runningback Trothwands Thunder Burningham
36 Aaron Poynter 5-11 224 Runningback Trothwands Thunder B'ham Capital
37 Sheldon Taylor 5-8 210 Runningback Tripoli Pirates [AMS] Utica
48 Nathaniel Mourning 6-0 237 Fullback Kyoshiku Devils A Youth Academy

The retirement of Paco Sanchez would normally have been cause for concern, given Nathaniel Mourning's injury record, but the team's transition away from using plays that require a fullback has lessened the fear in this area. Mourning is still first choice for that role, though he doesn't appear on the "starters" list anymore.

Luke Saint retains his role as de facto team leader and starting signal caller, despite an ultimately disappointing overall output last World Bowl. The reasoning is simple, as a pure pocket-passer, he is far superior to his rivals at the position. Don't count out Bradley Garden, though. Garden's greater mobility could be a major factor later in the campaign, when the offensive line's fatigue builds up. We've noticed a trend toward the pocket collapsing quicker and quicker in the latter stages for Osarius -- partly due to superior opposition, of course -- but in those games, the Trojans' QB might be a better option.

The runningback options remain the same, but the hierarchy has changed, with Sheldon Taylor taking the backup role this time around. His dominant running of old is becoming a less frequent sighting as years of high level gridiron competition have taken a serious toll on his body. Harrison Ryan's talent for forcing the ball forward on short yardage plays sees him retain the third down specialist role, while young Aaron Poynter is expected to split the majority of carries with his Trothwands teammate Alexander Hayes. Poynter has slimmed down considerably over the past year, and dramatically improved his agility, meaning the Firebirds still have a legitimate two-headed rushing attack, even if they can't rely on the legs of Sheldon Taylor anymore.

78 Jamar Shaw 6-5 329 Guard Burningham Bulls Callisto
79 Tomas Cano 6-3 316 Center Kholanaras Vipers Carbonia

The only change of note on the offensive line for Osarius is Raul Hector's promotion over Clayton Jameson. The former Utica University left tackle was instrumental in the college's first NSCF Championship victory, and it seems as though he has proven himself for the Firebirds, too. Jameson's six game absence while the Firebirds were on tour was hardly noticed thanks to Hector's step up, but it should be noted that there is little between the two options. He joins former college teammate Fumo Vunaseki on the left side of center to make a formidable pairing. On the right side of center, Burningham Bulls duo Shaw and Perkins are immovable. Seemingly literally.

No Name Surname Ht. Wt. Position Contracted To College

86 Miguel Lopez 6-0 205 Wide Receiver Dynapolis Dragons Kronenhof
87 Carlos Baccaro 6-6 223 Tight End Carbonia Axemen Mora
88 Karim Ouaddou 6-5 228 Tight End Capua Cardinals [AMS] Utica
89 Lloyd MacLean 6-3 208 Wide Receiver Chestmana Chiefs Utica

All three of Saint's favourite targets return as starters. All three are former college teammates, too. Luke Saint will be less than pleased however, should there be any injury concerns in this department. The best backups at wideout from last campaign are unavailable this time around. Sebastian Nelson's severe knee injury ruled him out for nine months, and may well end his professional career, while Esteban Alves has decided to retire following the Trojans' refusal to trade him. The problems don't end there, as tight end Henry Reid has decided to hang up his cleats.

The loss of Reid in particular is worrying, as the Firebirds have opted to use a two tight end set with a reasonable degree of regularity while on tour. Should either Ouaddou or James be unavailable, this could put undue pressure on young Carlos Baccaro. Baccaro's rangy frame make him a great target in red zone situations, but his blocking will require serious improvement to be anywhere near on par with Ouaddou, let alone James.

Andre Harrison replaces Nelson, and provides a decent deep threat with his blistering pace, albeit with questionable hands at times. Jeremiah Coles is the opposite. Possessing no discernible burst of pace, he isn't much threat on deep passing plays, but he has arguably the safest pair of hands in the squad at the moment. Expect Coles to feature as a possession receiver when the Firebirds are in clock management mode.

97 Casey Walsh 6-2 315 Def. Tackle Cartagena Wildcats A Youth Academy
99 Antonio Martinez 6-4 265 Defensive End Tripoli Pirates [AMS] Utica

Nothing to see here. Why change one of the most intimidating front fours in gridiron football? All four starters have the appearance, reputation and nicknames to go with that description. The Firebirds' defensive line is clearly built for rushing the passer, and expect them to do just that. Very well.

Clayton "Monsterghan" steps up to starter alongside Daryn "The Damager" Patterson, but Kenneth Braddock is still on the roster. It appears as though Braddock is most likely to be used a space-eater, while Monaghan is more likely to apply additional pressure alongside sack-machine Patterson. Outside them, "The Butcher" Terrell Cleaver and "The Tubrissian Menace" Antonio Martinez will provide containment and additional pressure.

Antonio Martinez is possibly the best defensive end Osarius have ever produced, and is pretty much a shoe-in for the Osarius Gridiron Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible. Having terrorized quarterbacks since high school, Martinez has shown no signs of letting up on that front, even after fifteen years of professional gridiron. While Cleaver is less prolific with his sack numbers, he's known for cutting through run blockers on the strongside... hence the nickname.

Arguably the weakest part of the Osarius defense, the linebacking corps has been the primary recipient of criticism for a long time. The Firebirds' traditionally poor rush defense can largely be explained here. The prevalence of quicker linebackers over larger ones combines badly with a sometimes over-zealous pass rush from the defensive line to create too many gaps.

Despite their speed, the majority of the Firebirds' linebackers aren't particularly reliable at making tackles in open space. Micah Forte is an exception to this rule, and consistently halts runners if they come anywhere near him. However, the pass-heavy nature of the OSAGIF League has perhaps skewed personnel specialities toward preventing yardage through the air. Unlike most teams, the Firebirds have a wealth of options at linebacker capable of dropping into pass coverage when necessary, as well as several good pass rush options. Jamal Cleaver often combines well with his cousing Terrell on the strongside to halt runs, while Aaron Richardson is a formidable pass rusher behind Antonio Martinez.

Twin Islanders Lu'ko and Ku'lo Manaki'de are better at run defense than other outside linebacker options, but still seem notably more efficient when facing a passing play. Xavier Camacho will need to make sure the Firebirds are prepared for a strong rusher if they are to progress beyond the quarter final glass ceiling this time around. It's not clear how he can address this deficieny with current personnel, however.

Probably the strongest part of the Osarius roster is the secondary. It almost reads like a who's who of shutdown corners and dominant safeties in Osarius. When your second string strong safety is good enough to play in the consensus best gridiron league in the world, you're looking at a strong set of players.

Outspoken cornerback Rigo Kopumava leads a secondary with a penchant for picking off passes, and carries a fearsome reputation as a returner. His former understudy Hi'ro Manaka'li is still waiting in the wings to usurp him, too, underlining the ability of Ryan Cleaver (no relation this time).

The only real loss to this unit this year is Bradley Thomas. The fifteen year veteran has called time on an illustrious career at last, and is replaced by rookie professional Leon "Komodo" Calk, a speedy -- if a little undersized -- cornerback "with a venomous bite", as former Osarius head coach Harold Matterhorn once put it. It represents a bit of a risk on the part of Camacho, but at the very least, Calk provides versatiliy as a superb punt/kick return option, and someone who could potentially fill in at free safety.

No Name Surname Ht. Wt. Position Contracted To College
10 Paul Atkinson 5-9 172 Kicker Yurendam Warriors Utica
12 Xavier O'Connor 5-10 189 Kicker Schlossberg Saints Highport
13 Owen Dickson 5-10 197 Punter Corriere Trojans Audenborough
17 Zane Mason 5-11 202 Punter Schlossberg Saints Burningham
77 Jonathan Cassel 6-5 310 Long Snapper Carbonia Axemen Bai'uke

It's odd how little attention is paid to these guys, but more points have been scored off the "Laser Rocket Boot" of Paul Atkinson than any other player in Osarian gridiron history. He's also the only player on the roster to have had a part in Osarius' Baptism of Iron victory all those years ago, and despite his age, shows no sign of stopping.

Darryl Sykes' omittal suggests the Firebirds will share the return duties among a number of players -- and there is no shortage of options -- though it's questionable how effective this will be. Sykes, as a return specialist, was a consistent, if rarely spectacular option.
