Also just got around to firing my SAIGA. It's an alright rifle, really. I am thinking of getting an SVD stock for it so I have at least SOME cheekweld with my scope and installing a sling swivel just in front of the receiver on the handguard (SVD-style... sort of) so I can mount a bipod. Forward sling swivel is glued/melted/Russia'd into place, so I'll leave it for sling usage.

It was a bright sunny morning above the jungle. They were flying low, mapping the earth. So low in fact that at times their tracks clipped the tops of the trees. At times even more. But that did not matter to them as the gavin was strong. Out in the back the passengers were chilling out. Listening to music that was blasting on the intercom. Out in the front the crew was doing much the same. Suddenly the sky was filled with deafening noise and black smoke. A missile fired from the ground had detonated just 10 centimeters from the hull. A second had been more accurate still. Caught between the blast and the shrapnel the gavin vanished in a cloud of black, surely doomed.

But the gavin was strong. The commander peered through his periscope swinging his gun around. His mighty weapon, the compensator turned to match his demands. Its long golden shaft glistened in the sun as it emerged from the smoke and released a mighty torrent of white flame. It's shells, like bolts of lighting emerged in a bristling stream of death. So rapid was the fire that one thought only miracles preserved them from hitting each others backs. A short burst later it was done. Underneath the mighty craft a large clearing several acres across had been plowed and ripped up. The once mighty trees reduced to smoldering tooth picks and splinters of the kind that liked to get in the eye. Nothing could have survived that.

But the danger was not over yet. Tossing a glance at his radar the commander could see three small red dots advancing on them at speed. Migs. For a moment he hesitated, thinking. And than he flipped the ignition switch. With a tremendous roar like a million angry lions the gavins engine came to life. And the mighty craft turned from silent glider to bird of prey. The gavin turned in place like a starship in space. Flipping around in ways not meant for things that fly. Inside his cockpit the Migs pilot had just enough time to realize what had happened and what was about to be before his craft was rammed through at hypersonic speed and along with him scattered like confetti to the wind. The second Mig had no more luck. The pilot managed to jerk the craft away just enough to avoid a direct hit. But was caught in the gavins exhaust and reduced by the atomic heat to a cloud of molten flesh and steel. The third Mig made a break for it. For a few tense moment it dived, trying to get as much speed as it could and slingshot away. But the gavins locked on to it, and the compensators fired.

The danger was over for now. But not for long. The battle in the air would wage for hours still until they reached the landing site. Waiting for this were the tanks, a platoon of which was loaded in each of the gavins cargo holds. Their crews, chilling to the sounds of good music, bored and oblivious to the battle raging around them. Waiting for the moment the gavins would land and they too would get a chance to play.
