Code: Select all
Your beliefs on:
Abortion: Agnostic. People make too big of a deal of it on either side, and the discussion seems more a matter of passion than any sort of logic.
Affirmative Action: Don't think the government should be involved in it, but I am fine with universities etc. offering financial incentives and the like to under-represented populations.
Authoritarianism: Extremely bad.
Conscription: Completely against. If I were conscripted, I would sooner go to prison.
Copyright law: Should be abolished.
Corporate personhood: Shareholders should have some form of limited liability, but people in charge of corporate decisions should be held accountable legally.
Death penalty: In theory, for it, but I would rather have some system based on restitution rather than straight-up incarceration.
Democracy: Don't like it; mass politics is more a matter of organization and patronage than ideology, and it is far easier to make the population complicit with the misdeeds of the government.. My influence in a democracy is at least as minimal as in any other system of government.
Drug legalization: Legalize all drugs.
Economic ideology: Market anarchism.
Evolution/Creationism: Evolution is the scientifically true theory, but I do like the metaphor of the creation account in Genesis.
Feminism: Mixed bag. I think feminism has done good things legally (letting women own property, allowing them to divorce, eliminating criminal penalties on adultery, etc.) but culturally I think some forms of feminism are too focused on things like body image, abortion, and letting the man take the check at the restaurant. I also think there are some negative effects for men, such as how men are treated as responsible for children from casual sex despite the fact that he has no choice over whether a child is born or not (the woman does, due to abortion laws.) But I think they are right about how rape is not properly treated by the legal system.
Free speech: Should not be restricted. This even goes for things I find extremely distasteful, like picketing a funeral.
Gay marriage: Government should not be involved in marriage at all, nor should a marriage be legally distinguished from any other form of partnership. It should be ceremonial only.
Global warming: Don't know enough about it to judge.
Gun control: God bless Texas.
Immigration (legal): Perfectly fine with it.
Immigration (illegal): Laws should be changed to make it easier to immigrate.
Imperialism/Militarism: Probably my biggest issue. I am 100% against imperialism and militarism.
Internet censorship: Never.
Israel/Palestine: Israel has done much worse things to the Palestinians than vice versa. However, ideally they should be able to figure out some moderate modus vivendi. (A two-state solution might be best.)
LGBTQ equal rights: Sure, why not? (I don't consider government-subsidized hormone treatments/sex change operations for transsexuals as being part of equal rights, however.)
Police: Much too focused on victimless crimes, and I am very concerned about how increasingly militarized the police is coming. Generally, the only reason I would call them is because my landlord requires me to for documenting something that's occurred at my apartment.
Pornography: Should remain legal.
Prostitution: Should be legalized (like in Holland or Nevada.)
Racism: Bad, but people have a right to their opinions and racism should not be a criminal offense.
Redistribution of wealth: The state should not be taking the money of the poor and giving it to the rich, as it happens nowadays.
Separation of church and state: People should remain free to follow their own religion, and churches should not be subsidized by the state.
Taxation: Eliminated.
Unions: Good for teaching skills and providing benefits like a mutual association, but I dislike closed-shop laws, payment by seniority, and punishment of rate-busting. I also dislike that the unions were favored over creditors in the restructuring of GM and Chrysler.
Universal health care: Government should not be involved in health care at all, nor should it subsidize insurance purchased by the employees of a company over someone who purchases insurance on their own.
Welfare: Don't support; it would be better to eliminate regressive taxes and the War on Drugs.
Worker's rights: See unions.
Youth rights: I think the voting age should be raised, preferably to 25.

Rate your opinion of the following countries from 1 to 5, with 1 being strongly favorable, 3 being neutral, and 5 being strongly unfavorable:
China: 3
Cuba: 4
France: 3
Iran: 3
Israel: 4
Japan: 3
North Korea: 4
Russia: 2
South Korea: 3
Syria (Assad regime): 4
Sweden: 3
United Kingdom: 3
United States: 5. Internally, not so bad (though it's getting worse), but externally it's responsible for most of the world's problems. Ideally, it should recall its military, declare perpetual neutrality, and, better yet, be broken up. Furthermore, the American Revolution is propagandized to an insane degree; in practice the motives behind it were far more cynical than they are portrayed, and nothing really good came of the conflict. I also consider the US government to be a more imminent threat to me than al-Qaeda, Iran, or what have you.
Venezuela: 3

Other questions:
What would you call your political ideology? Market anarchism.
What is your religion? Atheist, but I enjoy reading the Bible (King James Version.)
Do you believe that morality is subjective? Absolutely; morality is more a matter of being able to accept the consequences and implications of your actions than something being inherently 'right' or 'wrong.' If someone wanted to be a mass-murderer, they can do so, but they should be willing to accept the consequences (a murderer has no right to object if he is killed in turn.)
What is your Political Compass score? (optional)
Economic: 10
Social: -5.33

Why would you rate South Korea over France?

I mean, it was illegal for biracial men to serve in the military until 2011. The government is invasive of internet privacy, and you can get arrested for listening to music that's considered "communist" or for making jokes about Kim Jong-il on Twitter or Facebook. The government also censors a bunch of websites, the ban on Japanese culture was only fully lifted in 2004, and so on.

The country is also heavily racist and very nationalistic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_nat ... ationalism

Yeah, and there's still widespread support for this law.

"Indecent" websites such as unrated games, pornography, gambling, etc., are also blocked. Attempts to access these sites are automatically redirected to the warning page showing "This site is legally blocked by the government regulations."[17] Search engines are required to verify age for some keywords deemed "inappropriate" for minors.[18]

In November 2010, a woman was sentenced to two years in prison for the possession of MP3s of instrumental music, on the grounds that the titles constituted praise of North Korea, notwithstanding the actual music's lack of lyrics.[19]

The Constitutional Court of Korea upheld the Ministry of National Defense's order to allow the banning of certain books such as Ha-Joon Chang's Bad Samaritans and Hans-Peter Martin's The Global Trap from soldiers' hands on October 2010, despite a petition made by a group of military judicial officers protesting against the order in 2008.[5]

The South Korean military cracked down on soldiers who have "critical apps" installed in their smartphones; allegedly marking the famous South Korean podcast, Naneun Ggomsuda, as anti-government content.[6][7]

And, of course, there's horrible treatment of newly drafted soldiers by their officers.

In 2007, numerous bloggers were censored, arrested, and their posts deleted by police for expressing criticism of, or even support for, certain presidential candidates.[15] Subsequently in 2008, just before a new presidential election, new legislation that required all major internet portal sites to require identity verification of their users was put into effect.[16]

There's also a stupid law which requires you to have an ID to sign up on websites on Korean websites, so the government can track down anti-government comments online and know who's making them.

In ethnically homogenous South Korea, mixed-race offspring are generally viewed with contempt. Biracial men were banned from serving in the South Korean military until January 2011.[3] A 2009 poll revealed that 47% of Korean children were uncertain or negative on the subject of whether they could make friends with a biracial child.[4] Ethnic prejudice is thought to be widespread throughout the Korean education system.[5][6]

Your beliefs on:
Abortion: I believe it should be an option for any woman and should be available under any circumstance.
Affirmative Action: Should be based upon economic background rather than race.
Authoritarianism: Necessary sometimes.
Conscription: Preferable to the system in place now, where the poor are subject to de facto conscription while the middle class and wealthy get off scot free.
Copyright law: Needs work.
Corporate personhood: Blech.
Death penalty: I have no problem with the concept. However, in practice it leads to the execution of innocent people.
Democracy: With adequate controls, the preferable system of government.
Drug legalization: Marijuana should be taxed and regulated like Alcohol. "Hard" drugs should be legalized but their distribution tightly controlled by the government.
Economic ideology: National syndicalism ideally. I'll settle for regulated capitalism, though.
Evolution/Creationism: Evolution.
Feminism: Supportive of actual feminism. Misandry can right fuck off.
Free speech: Supportive.
Gay marriage: Supportive.
Global warming: It's obviously happening. Shouldn't really be an ideological thing, because science doesn't really care whether or not you believe it.
Gun control: Supportive of restrictions on magazine sizes as well as on access to large-caliber weaponry and destructive devices.
Immigration (legal): Obviously supportive.
Immigration (illegal): I really don't see what's being asked here. Ideally, nobody would have to immigrate illegally because the process for immigrating legally would allow all law-abiding individuals who won't be burdens on the state into my country.
Imperialism/Militarism: Meh. Both terms are so overused at this point that some of my beliefs would be labeled as such. That being said, ideally they won't be necessary.
Internet censorship: Only necessary to censor content that is morally heinous (child porn, etc.)
Israel/Palestine: Supportive of a two-state solution.
LGBTQ equal rights: Supportive. Option should be available for Trans* individuals to mark a third gender on official government forms.
Police: As long as they actually enforce the law, supportive.
Pornography: As long as it depicts consenting adults, I don't give a shit.
Prostitution: Entire nation should be governed under the same rules as Nevada. Brothels should be tightly regulated as well as regularly inspected to ensure that no one has been forced into the profession.
Racism: Opposed on of moral and logical grounds.
Redistribution of wealth: Taxes should be collected in order to allow the government to support the enrichment of all social classes with public infrastructure and adequate care for the poor, sick, and the disabled.
Separation of church and state: They should be separated by a 5-meter thick titanium alloy wall.
Taxation: Taxes should be collected in order to allow the government to support the enrichment of all social classes with public infrastructure and adequate care for the poor, sick, and the disabled.
Unions: Supportive.
Universal health care: Strongly supportive.
Welfare: Supportive.
Worker's rights: Supportive.
Youth rights: Individuals should be allowed to consume all age-restricted substances at the age of 18. If one can die for one's country, one should be able to purchase beer.

Rate your opinion of the following countries from 1 to 5, with 1 being strongly favorable, 3 being neutral, and 5 being strongly unfavorable:
China: 2
Cuba: 4
France: 2
Iran: 5
Israel: 4
Japan: 3
North Korea: 5
Russia: 3
South Korea: 1
Syria (Assad regime): 5
Sweden: 3
United Kingdom: 2
United States: 1
Venezuela: 3

Other questions:
What would you call your political ideology? Ugh. So difficult to define. Semi-authoritarian pragmatism, maybe?
What is your religion? I'm an apatheist, but I wouldn't call it a religion.
Do you believe that morality is subjective? Yes, although the common good isn't.

This was hard for me on the ideology point... im trying currently to rationalise an ideology which doesnt even have a name yet

Your beliefs on:
Abortion: Pro
Affirmative Action: Against depending on context.
Authoritarianism: Highly opposed.
Conscription: Highly Opposed
Copyright law: In favour, but propose loosening in areas.
Corporate personhood: Opposed
Death penalty: Opposed unless there is some majorly extreme circumstance (I cant think of one)
Democracy: Massively in favour of, and propose greater democratisation. In favour of a corporatist house of representation, or industrial democracy.
Drug legalization: Pro to a small extent.
Economic ideology: A mix of green economics meets social democracy, with the mixed model ideally being socialist and state rather than capital and state.
Evolution/Creationism: Evolution and frankly beleive a belief in creationism qualifies someone as an idiot.
Feminism: Pro, but not female supremacism.
Free speech: Pro
Gay marriage: Pro
Global warming: Its a fact... feels like having an oppinion on the existance of the Roman Empire
Gun control: Mixed views,currently deciding.
Immigration (legal): Allow.
Immigration (illegal): Deny.
Imperialism/Militarism: I am against imperialism, but believe civilised society has a right to weed out threats to civilisation.
Internet censorship: Against
Israel/Palestine: I dont support nationalists against nationalists.
LGBTQ equal rights: Pro
Police Pro, but would prefer a greater imput by local populace into their police force (more police elections, council meetings etc)
Pornography: Pro
Prostitution: Pro
Racism: Against
Redistribution of wealth: Pro, depending on benefit to society and the protection of the individual
Separation of church and state: Churh should get the hell away from the state.
Taxation: Pro
Unions: Very pro, albeit I would prefer reformed economic unions
Universal health care: Pro
Welfare: Pro, albeit not to too large an extent.
Worker's rights: Pro.
Youth rights: I have no idea what this means.

Rate your opinion of the following countries from 1 to 5, with 1 being strongly favorable, 3 being neutral, and 5 being strongly unfavorable:
China:4
Cuba:4
France:1
Iran:5
Israel:5
Japan:2
North Korea:5
Russia:3
South Korea:2
Syria (Assad regime):5
Sweden:1
United Kingdom:1
United States:1
Venezuela:2

Other questions:
What would you call your political ideology? I dont quite know... I identify with numerous strands of socialism, but I suppose the term I would use to describe myself could be described as a neo-social darwinist, albeit the term social darwinist has entirely different connotations to what I mean. I suppose I would describe it to a large extent as a look an application and world view of cultures as evolving organisms, with acts in favour of the organism and those that damadge its chances of producing beneficial offspring (e.g. Secular democracy promotes a smarter organism with greater chances of health and general welfare upgrades on the social level and greater scientific literacy and rationalism on the survival level as opposed to the society proposed by Al-Qaeda). Im currently in the process of finding a name for it that communicates what I mean without people thinking im anywhere near Nazism.
What is your religion? I am an atheist anti-theist and would not remotely contemplate such self loathing and human hating as proposed by most religions.
Do you believe that morality is subjective? No
What is your Political Compass score? (optional)

Contrary to the propaganda, we live in probably the least materialistic culture in history. If we cared about the things of the world, we would treat them quite differently. We would be concerned with their materiality. We would be interested in their beginnings and their ends, before and after they left our grasp.

Your beliefs on:
Abortion: Abortion for any reason throughout the whole pregnancy, but attempt a live birth starting 24 weeks on.
Affirmative Action: No. I know the intentions are good, but I feel as if my race/gender becomes the arbitrary factor on whether I get something or now. Would rather focus solely on merit, and race/gender questions be omitted from all forms personally.
Authoritarianism: Ew, fuck no.
Conscription: I would rather be in jail.
Copyright law: On the fence with this one. I support our artists and dislike plagiarism, but on the other hand the time needed for a patent to expire for a holder that has deceased is ridiculous. And some of the stuff that people patent - like genes - is stupid.
Corporate personhood: Fuck to the hell no. Businesses are not people, nor should they ever BE people.
Death penalty: Personally I don't like it, it's state sanctioned murder, but I'd rather let the people decide whether it should be legal or not.
Democracy: Representative democracy, for the most part, works. *shrug*
Drug legalization: Legalize and regulate!
Economic ideology: Mixed economy.
Evolution/Creationism: Evolution.
Feminism: Any rational person would be a feminist IMHO.
Free speech: Yes. It's an either-or, either you have it or you don't. No in-between.
Gay marriage: Yes. Fundamental right.
Global warming: It exists. We need to halt it.
Gun control: I do not want to take away your guns, I want to regulate its sale and make sure that people register them and take gun safety classes and whatnot. Also, I don't like our current gun culture.
Immigration (legal): A good thing (I'm first generation from immigrant parents).
Immigration (illegal): Amnesty if you haven't done a crime. Give them a path to citizenship.
Imperialism/Militarism: Do not like.
Internet censorship: Fuck no. That's a violation of free speech.
Israel/Palestine: Two state solution.
LGBTQ equal rights: Equal rights. This is a no-duh thing.
Police: I don't trust them, but they're not all evil.
Pornography: Meh.
Prostitution: Legalize voluntary prostitution and regulate it.
Racism: Do not like. You can espouse your racist opinion, but don't discriminate against me when I'm looking for a job or a house or whatever.
Redistribution of wealth: You work for what you earn for the most part, but some things (e.g. healthcare) are fundamental rights. Also, see welfare.
Separation of church and state: Separate them.
Taxation: You live here, you consent to be taxed. Progressive income taxes are necessary. Rich should be taxed more.
Unions: Pro-union.
Universal health care: Public option competing with private insurance companies, healthcare is a right.
Welfare: Some redistribution is good, as long as it's limited and will be terminated when the person gets a steady job (see my factbook for official stance)
Worker's rights: Yes.
Youth rights: Yes.

Rate your opinion of the following countries from 1 to 5, with 1 being strongly favorable, 3 being neutral, and 5 being strongly unfavorable:
China: 3
Cuba: 3

Your beliefs on:
Abortion: Only acceptable in cases of rape or if the mother is going to die if she gives birth
