Interesting question:
a) Accepting promotions isn't actually mandatory - it's really, really rare to do so, but they can be declined.
b) Page could theoretically be promoted as high as Colonel without leaving a flight role. He could pull some strings on that front .
c) He's also kind of shot himself in the foot in terms of his job. Churchill's probably dead set on keeping him where he is, as being at a desk wouldn't really help anyone.

Many thanks for all the compliments on that giant post. To be honest, I had expected at least someone to complain about it being, and indeed it was, a great wall of text. Hopefully, I made it all readable by refining my usual writing style.

Damn Jerseys, that's certainly a nice format for a personal dossier; the attempted vintage typeset tops it off quite well actually. Kouralia - very good job indeed, but personally, I find listing actual and exact individual kill counts a bit, well, game-ish if you'd ask me. You can pretty much compare such statistics to the in-game kill count in a FPS game's multiplayer. The exception comes, of course, with downed or possibly destroyed enemy aircraft in dogfights.

I'm wondering of what you're going to need that for - it's not like your character is going to have to gag someone is he?

Upon the unit's dispansion in 1938, the then Captain Birch was recalled to garrison duties in Egypt. His discharge from the armed forces was cut short by the sudden outbreak of hostilities in Europe in 1939, and Birch accepted a recall to active duty.

Being based in the Middle East, he wondered of what to do as the war progressed with the defeat of the Anglo-French forces in France and the Blitz upon Britain itself. A comrade from his service in Palestine recommended him for the newly founded Long Range Desert Group, drawing upon his service with Spanish Republican guerillas and night time assault raids with the SNS. He was promoted to Major after serving on four desert raids with the LRDG, and commanded a company of the special troops for a fifth. OK, here's the code for the dossier. A couple points first:

Obviously, the text in red is just a placeholder and should be removed. Just make sure that when you remove the placeholder, make sure to add the same number of spaces to the text in order to keep the lines the proper length. Likewise, if what you type is longer than the placeholder make sure to delete the appropriate number of spaces.

Also, on every underlined section I left one space to the left of the beginning of the text in order to mimic a typewritten effect; if you want to disregard this, just make sure to add an extra space after the text.

As for "Page 2" on, the underlining is really optional, so if you want it to look like it was typed on a blank sheet feel free to remove the underlining; the character limit should remain though.

Finally, previewing your post is your friend. I suggest you even preview it before you start typing just to get a handle on the format.
