Less and Less religious

Postby Catan » Sat Oct 13, 2012 11:03 am

http://www.pewforum.org/Unaffiliated/no ... n=PPFooter More and more people have no religious affiliation at all. As an agnostic, I find this to be good news, that people are moving away from Dogma. So NSG, what I want to ask is this: have you ever doubted the existence of god, and if so what caused you to doubt it? If you have never doubted it, why not?

The first time I realized God isn't real was when he told me he didn't exist. True story bro.

I don't see what's so good about the number of theists dropping. There's nothing wrong with theism, in and of itself.

Atheist here.

I always think such declarations are premature; it could be a transient rather than a permanent trend. These fluctuations have happened elsehwere in the world.

Which brings me to my second objection: your poll pertains to people in The United States of America, whereas your title and OP seem to indicate that this is a more general phenomenon. America is not the whole world.

I, honestly, am pretty happy.

In my opinion, having a religion is like having a gun; it's ok to have one, and it's ok to be proud of it. But don't take it out in public and wave it about, and please don't shove it down children's throats.

Some atheists can be quite dogmatic
"what I believe is like a box, and we’re taking the energy of our thinking and putting into a box of beliefs, pretending that we’re thinking...I’ve gone through most of my life not believing anything. Either I know or I don’t know, or I think." - John Trudell
