Naval Aviation in your Nation

Postby Vloskovia » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:55 am

Does your nation have any carriers? What type of aircraft are based on them? Have they ever been deployed in combat?

The Vloskovian Naval Air Force (VNAF) operates Sukhoi Su-33, Grumman F-14A, McDonnell Douglas AV-8B, Dassault Rafale-M, and KLB SF-A2 and ESF-A2 aircraft from three carriers, two Vilrsaz class and one Svetka class.

The VNAF has been deployed in combat on several occasions since it's formation in 1938: In World War II, in the 1999 North Sea Incident between Britain and Vloskovia, and in the 2002 Mizrakhaji-Vloskovian War.

Hippostania operates several Merina class aircraft carriers and Amanda class amphibious assault ships, both of which are capable of launching aircraft. Merina class uses F/A-18 Hornets as its primary naval fixed-wing aircraft, specifically the E variant "Super Hornet". Other aircraft carried include EA-6B Prowlers and E-2C Hawkeyes for fixed-wing aircraft and SH-60 Seahawk helicopters. Amanda class' aviation complement varies considerably depending on the mission parameters. The standard aviation complement is six F-35Bs or Harrier IIs, plus a helicopter complement of four Marine AH-64D Longbow Apaches, four MV-22 Ospreys, four CH-47 Chinooks and three SH-60 Seahawks.

We have one active naval carrier, a Luxurious-class Aircraft Carrier capable of launching and retrieving some 30 aircraft, as well as around 8 Lambda-class amphibious assault carriers. Naval planes tend to be lighter, faster versions of our land-based aircraft, such as the Teddy Aviation Industry T-64N[aval] multirole fighter jet.

Whatever we used to do with naval vessels we now do better with airships. So in essence, our navy and our air force are the same thing. Including airborne aircraft carriers.

Fatatatutti has only recently developed a naval aviation strike capability. We currently have half a dozen attack carriers in service with another dozen or so due to come online in a few years. There is no definite end scheduled for the building process.

Because we are new to naval aviation, we are not building carriers in "classes" yet. Each one is unique as we try out different configurations to suit our needs. All of them are approximately three hundred meters long with two flight decks, one in-line and one angled. Machinery is oil-fired steam and we do not anticipate any use of nuclear technology. Our carriers are tasked with extending the range of the Air Corps in defending against invasion. They are not intended to take a strike capability to other nations. Thus, they have somewhat shorter range and limited repair facilities compared to other nations' carriers.

Our primary strike aircraft is the F-DR. It was originally designed to operate from short, improvised airfields in the event that our bases were destroyed, so it is well suited to carrier operations. Our carriers also operate reconnaisance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft of various types.

It is still uncertain whether naval aviation personnel fall under the Navy command structure or the Air Corps. For the moment, each carrier has a Captain who is in charge of the ship, responsible to the Navy, and an Air Wing Commander who is in charge of air operations, responsible to the Air Corps.

The Saurisian Navy has a significant carrier force which helps project its power and prestige across the seas. The Navy especially needs a long reach considering the vast stretches of ocean that separate the nation's assorted territories from each other and surround Saurisia Proper.

As for carriers themselves, there are two classes currently in service. First off, there's a handful of the Explorer-class still being employed.

Image

And then, there is the John Horridus-class, which is the mainstay of the Navy's carrier fleet and are the most powerful vessels currently in Saurisian service. The very fact that all ships in the class are named after famous legendary figures in Saurisia's history emphasizes how these ships are meant to display Saurisian pride and prestige.

The Flankfurt Class Nuclear Aircraft Carrier is the main aircraft carrier in the service of the Greater Pony Herd Navy.

Flankfurt-class carriers can accommodate a maximum of 150 aircraft; however that number is diffucult to manage effectively in an engagement. Typically a Flankfurt-class ship carries 110-130 aircraft, including both fixed-wing and VTOL craft. A typical carrier air wing includes 34-38 strike fighters; three squadrons of 12–16 multirole fighters; 5-6 electronic warfare craft; 5-7 AWACS craft used for airborne early warning; 4-5 carrier-capable transports for logistics, an ASW squadron of 8-10 helicopters and a number of reconnaissance and precision attack unmanned aerial vehicles.

144 vessels of the class are currently in service of the Herdite Navy; plus about 50 are being constructed both for the Herdite Navy and foreign buyers.

The People's Navy of the CPA has five active-duty Proletariat-Class aircraft carriers that each carry 30 planes and 4 helicopters. We are also working on building a Revolution-Class Helicarrier that can operate in the air or sea, but work is slow, due to our poor economy.

The Federation operates literally hundreds of supercarriers of the Nimitz and Gerald R. Ford classes.

Our primary carrier-based fighters are the F-22N Navy Advanced Fighter, F-14D Tomcat, and EA-18G Growler, although the EA-18G is primarily tasked with electronic warfare, not air-to-air combat. The F-35 was shortly in production, but its sheer disappointment led to its current status as being phased out.

Oceara has a ridiculous army, to ferry them most of the time in massive-scale parachutes (which are made viable with proper timing and air support from various sources) our Aircraft carriers were converted into full-scale assault ships and are essentially Super-capitals in every single one of them. They can carry a modified Osyprey capable of carrying whole Groups of soldiers (5 or so Squads of Infantry) and a Tank below, HOWEVER the navy does not own the aircraft it is the Airforce. The Airforce and navy have trained well together revising their tactics many times over, the Top aircraft are:

Combat Kilaron AJ 308 Dogfighting/Autocannon-Strafe Jet
Gunnery Osprey
Invasion Osprey
Combat Kilaron AH 210 Attack Helicopter
Combat Kilaron BJ 31 Bomber Jet

I'd buy a pair of Juan Carlos class strategic projection ships from Spain. We'd maintain one in the carrier role (buying retired sea harriers from the Royal Navy at rock bottom prices) to be replaced by the F-35Bs in the not too distant future, and keep the other as an amphib - both can be switched to either the carrier or amphib role very quickly. They'd also likely carry a few Merlin helicopters for AWAC and general utility. If the yanks won't sell the F-35s we'd go with the Mig-29k, navalised Gripen or even the Indian Tejas - all of which can be operated STOBAR with a ski jump.

There, an extremely cost effective way to maintain some expeditionary air capability on the cheap compared to buying full sized carriers. Plus, they have cool stealth design.

Does your nation have any carriers?

The nation currently has five aircraft carriers (three Eisbrecher-class supercarriers which were built during Radiatia's communist era and two Traiyan Silviu-class supercarriers which were recently added to the fleet.)

The nation is awaiting five more Traiyan Silviu-class carriers as part of the government's "10 carriers in 10 years" plan.

All carriers are Radiatian designed and built.

What type of aircraft are based on them?

The most commonly used aircraft is the F/A-15 Darkbat, a Radiatian-made multirole fighter aircraft. The RFSF (Radiatian Federal Sea Force) also use electronic varieties of the same aircraft.

Have they ever been deployed in combat?

Yes. Their most recent usage was in the during Hadinian War, around 6 (IC) years ago.
