Sovereign Defence Industries, a sub-division of the larger Republic Defence Systems, is a private organisation devoted to designing, producing, and selling military products on the international markets. Though, technically, SDI is more than capable of producing weapon systems for aerial and naval combat situations, she is specialised in ground forces, such as armoured vehicles, infantry weapons, etc. This allows SDI to create a strong export in the arms manufacturing sector of the Kingdom's industry.
The sub-division came after an agreement between the private corporation "Republic Defence Systems" and the Royal government stated that RDS is only allowed to sell weapon systems to the Royal military. However, it was decided further into the relationship to allow a sub-division to design and sell weapons on the international market. It had been agreed between the two corporations that the new sub-division, designated 'Sovereign Defence Industries', would provide the international market with Thedosian ingenuity and lust for dominance on a field of combat. Though beneficial for RDS as the need for weapons across the world could easily be fed by the corporation which would cause an augmentation in revenues, it was even more-so for the Royal government; the deal also stated that any and all weapons created by SDI could be purchased, subtly, by the Royal military at an incredibly lower cost. This creates incentive for RDS' main branch to keep up with her sub-division.
Today, SDI has expansion plans to enter the international market and rise the charts to become an dominant player in the field of economics and arms manufacturing. All weapons created have the endorsement of the Royal government. However, through RDS, political ties with the Royal government disallow weapons sales to multiple nations, organizations and regions, of which are displayed in company policies.
The present chief executive officer of SDI is David S. Foster, who gained the position after Republic Defence Systems revamped SDI in 1994.
In late November 1949, following the successful detonation of a fusion nuclear weapon on November 2nd, Queen Victoria III spoke with the highest echelons of the Royal military, whose hardware had begun to fall old, in order to sign new contracts with designers and develop weapon systems that would effectively continue to turn the Royal military-industrial complex.
Following the release that the Royal military was designing new weapons, a small corporation named Federal Defence Industries transferred several new innovative ideas to the military, immediately attracting their attention. Cooperation between this company and the government continued until it was decided that Federal Defence Industries - while not being directly owned by the government - would be barred from selling its weapons to other nations without official government authorization. As such, the "FDI", as it was named, became the top supplier of weapon systems to the Royal military. In 1955, this corporation changed its name to "Republic Defence Systems", and still rules over Thedosian technological innovations and advancements in the field of military technology.
However, in 1986, under King George III, RDS was permitted to own a branch that would allow it to sell its military designs on the international market. Approved by the government, this branch - the sub-division dubbed SDI - would drive the corporation's international market sales, and push new designs and weapon systems onto the world market, attracting attention to Royal arms manufacturing.
Initially, SDI found itself without funds, as RDS was still an enormous producer and developer, and required the majority of the funds that the Royal government gave the company. With SDI on the brink of collapse, the Royal government bailed it out and continued to do so until it had placed multiple new designs on the international market. SDI quickly paid back its debt in periodic payments, and today, is one of the largest arms producers in the United Republics, establishing itself as a fully self-sufficient corporation.
