King Parrish I was bored. He should be in training right now, but instead, here he sat, filling out paperwork on farm irrigation in the Benguela District and twiddling his thumbs. He hadn't even wanted to be king, but he'd been voted in due to his iconic status as leader of the revolution against the corrupt August II, and the Constitution forbade him from refusing. And so, three months later, here he sat, doing nothing as the football team prepared for World Cup 61.

With a heavy sigh, he pushed away from his desk and stood. His eyes hardened into steely resolve as he made a decision.

"I'm the best they have, and without me they don't stand a chance. Warren and Oponer hate each other, and Garren can't stand Larssen, he thinks he's lazy. They need me, if only to keep peace."

He called to his attendant, "Harris! Fetch me my football gear!"

"Yes sir. Shall I gather some other players?"

"No, Harris, this isn't for a recreational game. I'm going back."

"Back where, sir?"

"Back to the football team, if they'll take me."

Harris' eyebrows shot up so far they disappeared into his toupee, but he merely nodded and said, "Very good, sir."

Just about a year ago, Qazox reached it's first ever Cup of Harmony Final, a 2-3 loss to the Archregimancy. Since that run, Qazox has lost most of the team that reached that final. Only Doreen Dobbs remains on the front line and the defense returns all but Anna Paul. A transitional year for the Eagles as Qualifiers begin in August. Will Qazox be able to build on the success of their Cup of Harmony run; or will the transition as Karim Zaki enters his final campaign cost the team.

A new-model luxury sedan with tinted windows pulled up outside the Ministry of Morale just before 9 A.M. The parking garage guard, not recognizing the car, and surprised that a Ministry employee highly-ranked enough to afford a nice car would show up for work in a timely manner, gruffly demanded to see the driver's ID.

Three seconds later, he waved the driver through, apologizing profusely, while the driver just smiled and quietly reassured him that everything would be quite alright. Pulling into the space marked "reserved for Head Coach," he allowed himself a few minutes of contemplation before heading inside for his first day on the job. He'd spent the last two years getting a good look at all the sights he'd previously only seen through the windows of rented team busses going to and from airports, hotels and stadia.

He'd started his odyssey not intending to go on any sort of odyssey at all, signing a six-month sublease on a 84th-floor apartment in Directus from a hedge-fund manager who couldn't be bothered to wait half a year before trading up. All he wanted was a break; he'd planned on luxuriating in the jacuzzi for six hours a day while catching up on all the novels and T.V. shows that well-meaning players, friends and relatives had recommended to him over the last twenty years of coaching. After unpacking, he'd gone out and picked up a full set of It's Always Sunny in Fillydelphia DVDs, a copy of the post-postmodernist classic To Kill A Mockingbird as it Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade, and a bottle of sesquicentenary scotch. He'd always sworn he'd treat himself like this "one of these days," and it seemed like that one particular day had finally arrived.

After two weeks he was bored out of his skull.

Not wanting to abandon the considerable amount of rent he'd paid up front, he decided that it was high time he learned something about the geopolitical rivalries that had led his former fanbase to attach a much higher importance to some matches over others. He signed up for online History 101 courses from four different Rushmori nations to get some perspective on what his fellow humans told themselves about their pasts and ended up failing two of them when he accidentally switched two term papers, based on differing sets of facts, between Mytannion and Civil Citizenry. He finally read Leviathan, even the unreadable parts.

After six months in the apartment he'd gotten sick of Directus, so he packed his bags and headed towards the airport. He'd gotten a kink in his neck goggling at the skyscraping, wallet-emptying cityscapes of Commerce Heights. He rented a high-grade hazmat suit and seen the ruins of Sorthern Northland and Audioslavia from a safe distance, and found himself involuntarily reciting "Ozymandias" as he left.

He'd left his job on fairly unpleasant terms, and he'd been a fairly angry man whe he'd signed the apartment lease. During his time in Directus and on the road, he'd gone from the sort of anger that made you want to stab your antagonist to the kind of anger that made you want to end your antagonist's career and leave him cleaning the grease traps at Charley Burger. He'd also started watching soccer again. At first, it was coincidental; he'd be enjoying high-end pub food at a swanky brewpub and catch a half or so of the local top-division sides going at it. Then he found himself in the stands of stadiums he'd previously coached visiting teams in, trying to read the flow of the match and mentally second-guessing both coaches. Eventually, he'd managed to admit to himself that he missed coaching international soccer.

So he was suprisingly receptive when a young man in a nice suit approached him in New Montreal, where he'd been looking for a way to go wander the forested mountainous part of the Archregimancy. The young man had a large smile on his face and a sales pitch made of perfectly logical propositions: the Paladins had hit a bit of a plateau after making it back into the Finals. They needed a bit of outside help to break through to the next level. The talent was there, it was just a question of organizing it properly. And they could certainly be a way of showing up everyone back home. And he had one final argument: There are 650 million people in this country, 450 million of which tune in for big games if nothing else. If they all throw in 25¢ of their tax bills for a six-year deal, you will be fantastically f***ing rich.

He couldn't argue with that. So he didn't. And now he was dicing headfirst into the sort of press conferences he had sworn off after leaving his last job.

Before getting out of his car and going into the building, he took a second to check himself out in the rearview mirror. It was the first time he'd had to tie a tie in two years, and he wanted to make sure he hadn't forgotten how to do it.

------------------------------------------------------

The Minister of Morale was standing just behind the curtain in the Ministry's press room, waiting. Usually at this point in the process the media was speculating about the group draw: would this be a group in which the Paladins would have a shot? Today's announcement wouldn't be a silver bullet for the 'States. The group draw would continue to be more important then the matches themselves. But he did have a shiny new head coach who might be able to alter matters ever so slightly. At worst, he would distract the media from their speculation, and that would be almost as welcome.

His aide signaled that it was time to face the nation, and he put on his game face, then strode to the podium. "Ladies and gentlemen, you've spent the last several months engaged in relentless, self-indulgeant speculation about who might replace Jacques-Modeste Taschereau as he enjoys his well-deserved retirement at a great distance from all of you. Well, none of you were even close to being right. We've made it back to the finals two cups running now, but we need a little extra something to reach the point where we can actually do some damage in the World Cup proper. Our new head coach will do this for us. He's been as high up as the 3rd rank in the multiverse and knows exactly what it takes to get back there. We're frankly lucky to have found him on the market, and we're confident he'll be able to bring us back to the Finals and make us heard once we're back there. I have the pleasure of introducing to you, fresh from signing his new 6-year deal to coach the Paladins, our new head coach, Mr. Sol Kirkkegaard, formerly of Polar Islandstates. Mr Kirkkegaard!"

The assembled reporters fell silent, not something that came naturally to them, as Kirkkegaard walked up to the podium as the Ministry stepped aside. Once they had taken a split-second to process the whole thing the room immediately exploded into hubbub. Kirkkegaard smiled quietly as he surveyed the room. Reporters were all the same no matter what country you were in - with only one or two exceptions. And one of them wouldn't be troubling him, at least not in New Montreal. The immigration office had been more than happy to make sure that Peikko Uistella's visa applications vanished into thick stacks of paperwork, never to be see until a couple of days after it would do him any good.

How this would pan out was anyone's guess. But it felt good to be back behind the podium, and even better to be there without anyone angling for his scalp.

After the game against Skyrim

we are still disappointed

The fans might be satisfied with the gala that happens in the forth game of the BoF but analysts and critics are far from satisfied. The last episode of 'Heads up' on Phoenixia TV quickly after the announcing of the Rooster was the best prove for that
" It is disgusting that we drop out the tournament on this stage but it disgust me even more that Mr. Riegerson doesn't need to see the changes that must be done if we want to succeed in the World Cup Qualifications." Talk Master Lars 'not good' Fjordson comments the euphoria after the first victory of the Phoenixian National Team in an international high class Tournament. "The BoF is only a nursery but the qualifications are a highschool in the worst ghetto. They will play unfair, they will play dirty and they will take every advantage possible. We need a Team more experienced for the Qualifications !"
" Damn right and we need players from our own league not this crap who played in Benadigaro or somewhere else in the Kefatorian Isles." Added Tom Bjornson, critic from 'the patriotic Phoenix'
" Now, now you must see that the Phoenixian league is not more than a college league in regards of the other countries of our region. It is only naturally that our Players plays not in Phoenixia. But you are right we need a change and that quickly. Maybe not before the World Cup Nr. 62 but we need changes in the near future." Voiced Bjorn Larson from the libertarian 'inderpendend Phoenix'
After that the show only contents cursing, yelling and a brawl which leads to the conclusion that Fjordsons show must banned in the time after 11 pm to protect our children under the age of 18 and every real fan should be avoid this shows like hell with all this nonsense.

The KFA had done themselves proud. There had been no leaks of information, no hints as to what - or who - was about to happen. There was nobody, not one person, outside the interested parties that knew what was about to happen. And so, to a room at Lowess Lane, where the suits were about to unveil their finding to the world at large...

"Ladies and gentlemen of the press, thank you for joining us at KFA Headquarters on this momentous day. Following the disaster that was the sixtieth World Cup, the Krytenian national football team will be taken in a new direction, with a new man at the helm. A man who has experience playing in, and coaching, a World Cup winning side. A man with a simple idea for the way football should be played, and a single-minded determination to see it through."

"We present to you the new manager, and the second foreigner to manage the Krytenian team...Ug-Ug!"

The Glorious Return

They had spent months preparing for the World Cup, if they weren't ready now, they'd never be. They weren't ranked any more, and the quality of football had dropped immensely. Despite this, the team was very emotional."We can't fail lads. We've got an excuse, but I don't care, if we under perform we'd be letting everyone down. This is the glorious return of Warkus and this is our story, make it a good one!" said Victor Vos, at training. The boys cheered, they knew qualification was out of the question, but they can still get a good group finish. "We're prepared for this, I know it. They've asked us to perform, it's about time we give them their answer." said Vos. Nothing mattered, they were going into the World Cup with nothing, they had to come out with something.

Catching up with the Harvest Mice: Previously unRPed WCQ60 g

Postby Free South Califas » Fri Jul 27, 2012 3:56 pm

OOC note: The IC justification for posting these summaries, of games which were not RPed in the World Cup 60 thread, is to flesh out the statistics I gave in my roster post. If I didn't post these, those statistics would make no sense to anyone who had followed the Mice' first qualifying attempt. For example, my starting goalie's entire stretch of World Cup experience was in these games.

The Harvest Mice at Warkus Cup III

Postby Free South Califas » Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:16 pm

Edit: Spoilers were added. Also note that the purpose of this being posted in the RP thread is to establish the statistical trends affecting the Harvest Mice football team heading in to the WCQ61 campaign. Here, posts from the Warkus Cup III thread were quoted directly; the purpose of that was to make it clear that these portions are not original RP for this thread and shouldn't earn me any additional RP bonus.

Sundsborg 2-1 Free South Califas (Ceh scored)
Free South Califas wrote:Free South Califas 2-0 Northern Sunrise Islands

The Harvest Mice turned their ship around at Warkus with an impressive clean sheet victory over the Marills. Nothing went wrong for the Mice, as strikers Chiedebiele Guttman and Flavio Filippa scored in each respective half. Guttman turned an impressive through-ball from Zhongyuan into a rising one-timer tucked just under the crossbar in the far corner in the 41st minute to give the Califans momentum going into the break. Filippa slammed in a header off the Zhongyuan corner kick to settle the affair in the 82nd minute, after the Marills showed more promise in their attack. The Filippa goal took the wind out of their sails, however, and the Mice came out of it tied for mid-group with Boyznichov, who they will face next.

Free South Califas 1-3 Boyznichov

The Mice are back on the bubble, sitting third in Group B after dropping a shameful affair to Boyznichov, whose roller hockey team is currently leading their group in the South Califas Internationale. The two nations are no longer tied in their Warkus Cup group: the Mice are 1-2 while Boyznichov are 2-1. Thousand Oaks halfback Haidou Zhongyuan struck from the penalty spot for the only Mice goal.

It wasn't a great day for Gerlinda Strelc, but the Harvest Mice rolled into the catbird seat anyway after demolishing the Sundsborgians 6-3. A resplendent day for the Mice offense saw the rise of Jorja Hickey's managerial stock as FSC pounded the Sundsborg goal again and again. The game was the highest-scoring of the Warkus Cup III so far, and the Mice were tied for the greatest attacking performance of the tournament themselves (with Warkus' 6-1 victory on MD1).

Before the game, Ceh, Filippa, Guttman and Zhongyuan were tied with 1 goal apiece, while Zhongyuan led with 2 assists to Guttman's 1. Chidiebele Guttman, the Encinitas striker, really broke out today with another 2 scores to lead the team. Z. Haidou got into the act as well, scoring his second. Bela Ceh also notched his second while San Luis Obispo left striker Marten Robertsen scored his first. Zhongyuan, Anzalichi, Nes and Robertsen picked up assists on the day.

Days of Summer
Soccer in West Guiana
Chapter 1 Part One and Two
1870-1900

Part One

Around the world, it was a new sport it took hold quickly in many nations and grad the hearts and minds of both young and old, soccer has it is called or football where ever you live was invited not so long ago at this time. However though the year was 1870 and West Guiana wasn't even heard of, the nation that where live in today didn't even exist as you were taught in school our land mass that we call home was once part of the majestic Kingdom of Alkoul, 1870 was a year many would like to forget, it was the year of one of our nations worst winters, the temperatures plunged to well below zero degrees, many thousands of people had died. The Alkoulian parliament did very little to heat our homes or care for the sick and dying.

Matter of fact for those who would tell you, it was as if the Alkoulians wanted our people to die, to die because we sucked the life out of their upbeat culture with our misery and serve depression. Until that winter no one in the colony dared to speak out against the atrocites that their military had been doing to us. No one could under stand why they did such a thing, weren't we of the same color the same religion and the same species? Then why would they torture our people, that was the question hushed between others in the streets of Gemsbrook, which back then was nothing more than a dirty village of 12,000 people.

Oh my did those who lived in Gemsbrook truly hate those who lived in the colonial capital of Saint Johns. The citizen who lived in St. Johns those many years ago were considered by many in the rest of the colony as Alkouls little lapdogs, always so willing to point out spies or those who openly despised the Alkoulian government. Those in St. Johns weren't not to be trusted.

I must tell you though, when the Great Uprising of 1873 occurred then brought down with the mighty iron fist of the Alkoulian military. Afterwards a great many were executed or imprisoned. the people outside of St. Johns were at lest 70% poorer than they already were, parents that couldn't afford toys for their children, now couldn't even afford the most basic needs to live. At this great time of famine and starvation, not much joy could be found. The only sports that were allowed to be played in the colony was what the Alkoulians wanted to be played, which the only sport was Kings Soccer.
Kings Soccer in very few ways is played like normal soccer but like said in many different ways, the first oddity of the sport is that when a match begins there is only one offensive team one the field at once. The game starts at the Starting Kick Tee located at the very edge of the field farthest from the goal box. There are three offensive players on the field at one time, and there are two defensive players, and one goalie.
To move the ball down field one of the three offensive players must kick the ball from the SKT(starting kicking tee) any which way he/she wants. However though if he/she kicks it and one of the two defensive players gains possession of the ball, the ball is placed at the nearest kicking tee(KT) and one of the offensive players must kick the ball once more and to be careful of not allowing one of the def. players to gain possession, because each offense only has four chances to score on the field before the team must swap places. Each side does this twice four turns each half.

The sport was invited many centuries ago in Alkoul and when they colonized this land they brought it with them. Matter of fact that was the only sport that the Alkoulians wanted to be seen played in their colonies.

Ah..yes they knew about the other sport called soccer, but they believed theirs to be better and far more important, but even their dictoral ways of ruling those who lived in the colonies couldn't keep that unknown sport from making its way to West Guiana.

The sport in early 1876 first made some sort of appearance along the Bay de'lger cost line when a few boys between the ages of six and nine saw several Alkoulian military men kicking a ball and running around. They didn't know what they were doing since they knew fully well those men weren't playing Kings Soccer. So they crept a little closer, lucky for them the beach was littered with massive boulders so those boys were able to get a very good look at that game.

That day they were watching was very windy and one of the pieces of paper that some were reading blew at the boys. One boy picked up a piece, of course they couldn't read much since all colonial schools were banned. So they hurried home and took it to their parents. The parents read it carefully and knew what that paper was saying, how to play soccer. Now like I noted soccer in this form was strictly banned for play in the colony, but what the boys found would change this.

Now it only took less than a few days for many others around the colony looking to play this new sport. however since everyone knew that this sport was banned and anyone seeing playing this sport would be executed on the sport and all others watch would be tortured or killing also. So in the first few months (May - Oct 1877) games between local men and boys, and yes a few ladies would join in, were played in warehouses or deep in the wooded areas where the Alkoulian military would look. Well this sport took off and many people greatly loved it, in 1878 the People's Secret Soccer League was formed. The PSSL was played in the spots mentioned, there were only four teams and all four were from Gemsbrook, but people from within a 100 mile radius would try to come to see at lest one game. The first PSSL season had only nine games, and the peoples Lions Club won the first title, they played against the Rebels at the old Mining Co. Warehouse to a crowd of 56 in all. The Lions beat the Rebels 17-9.

After that first championship game, the people wanted to be able to play the sport en-masses and with out fear from the soldiers. Well that year King Piaoto acssened to the throne. He unlike the last king was very sympathetic to the people of the colony and allowed the sport to be played along with several others. For the 1880 season the PSSL expanded to ten teams, and for the third starit year in a row the Lions won the league title, this time in front of a crowd of 5,000 in St. Johns. The Lions beat the newly created team the St. Johns United Patriots in a decisive 10-0 beating in front of only those from St. Johns.

Part Two

Now then to start where we left off, to refresh your memory. Soccer in its current form was for the most party out right banned from being played in the West Guiana colony to which at this time was part of the Kingdom of Alkoul. Now then after the tryant king had died a new one took to the throne, one much kinder than the last. King Piaoto allowed the Guianan colonists to play soccer freely with out punishment, but before the sport was legal they were already playing it. Playing it in the middle of the woods or in old warehouses in front of small crowds so the Alkoulian military wouldn't arrest them.

Now when this was going on they had created the People's Secret Soccer League in 1878, the first champion was the People's Lions Club. Now then in 1880 when the league had expanded to ten teams the Lions then beat St. Johns United Patriots in the 1880 championship game in front of 5,000 people all from St. Johns to which they won 10-0.

Now then after that game the people of St. Johns demanded to the Colonial Government that the poor should be banned from playing that game. However since such an act would violate King Piaotos decree, the spoiled brats of St. Johns had to make due with their situation. Now of course they wouldn't let it go, so they and a few other rich cities made their own soccer league, and called it the Colonial Champions Soccer League (CCSL). This league was made up of six teams, the St. Johns United Patriots, Saints of Holy, Hamliton Tigers, Willington Frogs and CCSL Lions.

Well with the CCSL, the PSSL had competition yes, but the poorer people liked the PSSL more since all the players lived the same life style as them and fully understood the hardships they faced. Players of the CCSL however where just the rich kids who thought that they were better. From 1881 to 1889 the two leagues champions would say the other were Colonial champions and riots would occur in the cities and villages. It wasn't until the start of the 1890 season when Lord Geroge Hamliton, the namesake of the city of Hamliton and very wealthy businessman of the colony proposed a simple idea, the two league champions play each other for the colonial crown.

Now you'd think that would slove everything, but the players of the CCSL refused to accpet the proposal because they wanted the game to be played in one of the CCSL fields. So Lord Hamliton said to that, "Which ever champion has the better record, that is where the game shall be played". Still the CCSL players complained and Lord Hamliton grew fed up he eventally wrote in the Metro Times of St. Johns, "If they [CCSL Players] don't want to play where the better team plays its games, than i'd declare that the CCSL will forfeit every Colonial title until they play in the championship"

Well after that the CCSL agreed to the terms despite they greatly disliked the terms of the agreement. So for the 1890 season both leagues played twelve matches, the Willington Frogs CCSL Champions played the Gems of the PSSL for the first colonial title. Well the Frogs beat the Gems in Gemsbrook by a score of 3-1, in front of a crowd of 6,900. After that win the CCSL broke the agreement saying that it gives them an unfair advantage since they'll win every Colonial Title forever. So Lord Hamilton challenged them to that. 1891 season flew by and soon came the second Colonial Title game the Frogs came back to defend their title while the Port Salem Sailors came with their pitiful 3-3-9 record. Well with that record coming in the Frog players laughed and already ran over to raise the trophy declaring their victory. The Willington crowd cheered thinking they had already won.

Well Lord Hamilton stepped onto the field and ordered everyone to shut up and play and so they did. Port Salem won 8-2, the Willington crowd was in shock. Thinking the game was rigged and that they were cheated the Willington players went to the Port Salem side and yanked the trophy out of their hands and took it with them, demanding that the game be erased from history, saying that such a loss would damage the CCSL. Lord Hamliton would have none of it and ordered the police to escort the Port Salem players back to the train station so that no incidents would occur taking the Colonial Trophy with them back home.

Well The Colonial Title changed hand five times since 1891, by 1896 the PSSL had won the title four times, wheres the CCSL had won three times. By Far the 1897 Colonial Title was the most memorable, by this time both league had worked out their differences and both sides had done the same. During the off season the poor and rich were some what close friends, but during the season they were bitter enemies. The CCSL at this time had six teen teams, two which were based in Gemsbrook and Port Salem respectively. While the PSSL has twenty teams, one whole division was based in the richer cities.

So for the 1897 Title game, it was a rematch of the first Colonial Title Willington Frogs versus the Gems, the game went on for four hours of play. After the first ninety minutes of play the score was 0-0, well they kept playing. The game had started at one o'clock, by three-forty- five people wondered if the game would ever end. Exactly at four o'clock the Gems scored the only goal and won. Wasn't much cheering after that win, everyone was tried and hungry so everyone went home. The Gems players went to the hotel in Willington to celebrate.

By 1900 The Colonial Title was the largest sports event in the colony and over that eleven season time span, over 103,000 people had gone to watch those games. And by far that number is still disputed to this day, since West Guiana at this time only had a population of 996,000.
Domestic sports leagues

NS is just a state of mind, time has no boundary nor does our sanity.

Please ignore my senseless ramblings, I'm getting old.

Cyborg Holland's Greatest Sporting Moments: As voted for by the readers of CYBSports Magazine

No. 10: WC57: Agazul 7-4 Cyborg Holland

Match day 15 of the 57th edition of the World Cup and then low ranked Cyborg Holland faced off against then-to-be world Champions Agazul. The match took place in Agazul in front of a sizeable, but hostile crowd. The same side that played today were just starting out thier international careers, so were young and inexperienced, and no match for the giants of Agazul. The game kicked off and it instantly showed the massive gap between the Dragons and Agazul. A hapless performance left the Dragons 2-0 down within 20 minutes, Lisson and Esteban Oraglio scoring the goals. But then, to everyone's amazement, a free kick somehow found its way to Denbrandt in the 6 yard box, and all he had to do was kick it. And he did. 2-1. And so we all sat back again, re-filled our shot glasses and proceeded to laugh the night away. However, four minutes later, there was no laughter, only wonder. It was 2-2. Most people had actually missed it, it came that out of the blue. A cross from Sonveringht has got all the way to Levi, who lifted it over the Aguazul keeper and into the net. SIlence in Amzterdam, loud in one small corner of an Aguazuli stadium.

However, the shock soon left, as Aguazul added one more to make it 3.2. Then another. The whiskey was well and truly back on the table. Half time, and the two teams trotted down the tunnel. Whatever had been put in the Dragons drinks, surely worked for a minute, as in the 46th minute, Sonveringht nailed a beautiful 25 yard shot, stunning the crowd. However, the Aguazuli crowd soon cheered again as they scored again, with Lisson adding another to his tally. Then Bruno Dorantes somehow appeared in miles of space behind the defence, not offside, and just rolled it past a certain Bradán Coltir, who had come on as a memento for the team. The score. 5-3. But we kept going, and Denbradnt added another goal, with a close range header off another Sonveringht cross.

However, the score line did get more ridiculous. Dorantes added his second, and just to cap it off, Naldo scored in the final minute of the game. To add to the ridicule, the team then played cricket on the centre of the pitch, but were called off by Groundstaff after 20 minutes. Despite this being a thorough thumping by a far superior side, it showed the the Dragons had potential, and that a fast, attacking game worked. And the mixed side. That worked too, Marco.

This was an odd tournament, certainly in a literal sense with its 7 teams. It seemed a touch unfair that 2 out of 3 qualified in the other group, but 2 out of 4 in ours. Still..

Postby Free South Califas » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:41 am

Edit: Spoiler boxes were added. Note that the purpose of this being posted in the RP thread is to expose statistical trends affecting the Harvest Mice football squad going into the WCQ61 campaign. The Six Nation Summit saw a number of experiments with the lineups and tactics, as you can see below. While Garabona has brought a new stability to the side, his choices were definitely informed by the trends that developed here.

Cyborg Holland's Greatest Sporting Moments: Cyborg Holland 2,3 in the VI Olympiad Women's 1500m

On a bright, sunny day at the Estádio Anchieta, two Cyborg Dutch girls lined up on the start line in their respective heats. Carla Ishet, who'd lost earlier in the 800m semi-finals, the 24-year old from Paritzburg. She was your average privelaged girl, private training and education, all the best equipment money could buy. And at the other end stood the daughter of a miner, Louise van Vaarsveld. Van Vaarsveld had been tipped to be the more successful of the two, and the heats definitley showed that. Louise finished 2nd in the heats, with a powerful performance in her heat, winning it, and ranking 2nd, only 2 miliseconds behind Lia Aloia of Carpathia & Ruthenia. Ishet however only managed to sneak into the Semi-finals, coming in 24th place, one milisecond ahead of Kekteremia Reslagosi of Vekaiyu. The performance was nowhere near good enough for the final, so instead of allocated downtime, it was off to the gym for Carla.

The Semi-Finals came the next day, and Carla and Louise were both expected to perform, but Louise had complained of a stomach bug over the night, and Carla siezed the initiative to pull one over her rival. She did exactly that in the Semi-finals, scoring the top time overall, beating Bastila Snedden of Sorthern Northland with a time of 4:03:27. Louise however was obviously uncomfortable in her race, dropping behind several times. But she managed to pull through to qualify for the final with a time of 4:04.13. So that meant for the final later that day that Cyborg Holland would have 2 competitors in the final 8 of the Women's 1500m.

The sunwas beating down heavily upon the red track and the girls lined up ready to race. The gun went and both of them set off at a steady pace, with an obvious struggle between the two girls. Louise was clearly driven and advanced into a good lead within the first 500m. The chasing pack managed to pull her back to set up an enthral lying last 400m. The bell went with van Vaarsveld 3rd and Ishet 5th, with Bastilla Snedden of Sorthern Northland coming 1st. For the opening two straits, Ishet and van Vaarsveld battled each other for the 3rd place spot, and with 200m to go van Vaarsveld led in 3rd, and Ishet in 4th. Snedden was tiring in 2nd, and van Vaarsveld took her chance to put distance between her Carla. The leader, Leanne Xousa or Krytenia was pulling further ahead, and Louise realised that she'd never catch her, but kept up her pace. Ishet had given it everything to gain the gold, but when Xousa pulled away, she dropped off, to conserve her place in 3rd. The final sprint approached and Ishet and Vaarsveld went for the line, but Louise had more energy and was able to cross the line half a second in front of Carla.

However, despite all thier rivalry, as soon as Carla crossed the line, she went over to the panting van Vaarsveld and embraced her, draped in a Cyborg Holland flag, in tears. The two again were reduced to tears during the ceremony, despite a different anthem playing over loudspeakers.

Island 6 news

A much changed Khytenna back

it seemed ages ago when Khytenna played in the world cup finals, but football in the 6 islands have been dragged threw the mud with scandal as the top of the board was accused of bribery and corruption. with the evidence the mounted against them, it ended with a government inquiry which then led the court cases which saw big heads roll at the top of the KFF , such events saw the halt of Khytennan international football for a few years, a shamble in organisations saw the team miss games and not even attempt to qualify for the world cup. But, after so long, Khytenna will have a chance to prove themselves once again as being one of the best in world, as they attempt the qualify for the world

New is a word we can attach to this team with a new coach, new permanent captain, and new faces in the squad, Khytenna really have moved on from those days of old.

after the new board of directors deliberated for ages, Benny Gianino was announced as coach of the team, he then after two days of taking on the role announced the Oliver Testerman would replace the now retired Cassey Thorne as captain, news that to most football fan's came to no surprise. Thorne was not the only one to hang up his boots, Ursua, Vancil, Dunstan, ringwood all announced retirements last year and which major injury's, Khytenna had to bring in new faces into the team, the likes of Xin, Javis and Falcon have been brought in for the first time, Yzo has had an amazing session, top goal scorer in the session was an obvious choice for the forwards.

but with all this new faces, old ones have appeared, Bohannan is the old favourite for defence, a star in the Gray harbour leagues, Kusek is in the squad, and also after being absent for years, Kelly Bady makes a return to the squad.

Gianino, unlike previous coaches of Khytenna as been shown restraint in bigging the team up, making few statements about the future for the team, one interview last week he said "look, we have been away for so long, we are going to give it our all, we will play anyone and go in thinking we can beat them, but we will be lucky with a cup of harmony qualification"

Time will tell about how well this team will be preform, but Khytenna will be looking to put behind them what has been a horrid fews years, and bring back some pride in football again.

The country's national football team has embarked on training ahead of its 61 World Cup qualifiers.
Coach Bjorn Tygon who had only 14 players present said he was more than determined to get the team in shape before they start the qualifiers.

The training started on Monday at Mysk Arena over 10km north of the Northern city of Korsholm.
After getting close to qualifying for the 60 World Cup, the Hakklensk team has been weakened after senior player Bernd Skogfelt quit.
The Hakklensk team will discover its opponents on August 3, while the team had only one friendly game this far, the Manager said that many friendly games will be announced soon.

THE DAILY REVIEW

EMPIRE RETURNS AFTER WCC EXPULSION

The Golden Eagles are set to make a return to football on the international stage after their expulsion from WCC sanctioned events. The Blouman International Team has not participated in a World Cup since World Cup 52 after receiving a 8 World Cup cycle ban for bribery, match fixing and political interference during the WC52 qualifiers. The Golden Eagles are ready for the world stage once again to prove to the world that they are going to come back stronger then before. Throughout this time of expulsion there have been Imperial Commissions, police investigations and long court trails which have seen 10 people jailed including former Football Federation of Bloumany Chairman Duke James Nortlan and a total of $35,000,000 in fines placed on individuals and organisations along with lifetime bans for a number of officials and players. Further outcomes from the biggest scandal in the history of Blouman football has seen the FFB structure, reporting and operation change along with tighter legislation imposed by the Royal Council on all sporting organisations within the Empire.

FFB Chairman Sir Luke Predom has announced a new era in international football for Bloumany stating in a press conference that it is time to put the past behind us and focus on the future where the Empire can be looked up to as a strong footballing nation. Sir Luke also stated that it is now time for the Golden Eagles to start their focus on qualifying on WC61 as a now unranked nation, a long way from being ranked 72 before the Empire was suspended. The press conference also announced the new coach for the international team Harry Malsomp who spoke shortly repeating the views of Sir Luke and stating that he will be announcing his team soon ready for the first game of the qualifiers.

There has been no word yet on which stadium will host the qualifiers with the FFB set to make an announcement within a week.

The soda flowed freely at Luke Parrish's return party. Following in the tradition of West Angola's first World Cup coach, Peter Warren, all team functions were teetotal until the team qualified for a World Cup knockout round. Parrish, Isaac Warren, and Phillip Garren were seated on a couch, playing FIFA on the television. Parrish and Warren were playing as the video game versions of themselves, and Garren was playing as the opposition, Yesopalitha. The game was tied 1-1 in the 78th minute, and it was likely headed towards a draw as neither side could get much past the two sides' keepers.

Fourteen minutes later, the final whistle blew. Yeso had eked out a 2-1 victory with a goal in the 90th minute by Nadya Dostoevich, the plucky little vampire. Garren leaned back and stretched, "Well guys, it's getting late, I think I'd better get to bed. Isaac, Luke, it's good to be here with you two. There's no one I'd rather have with me in any football match than my two unstoppable forwards."

"Thanks, Phil."

"Our pleasure."

The three friends rose together and left the room, still deep in conversation. Outside the window, unnoticed by all, a hooded figure sat, watching. He had lost everything to those three, but soon, he would take it all back. His plans had finally come to fruition, and by the end of the World Cup, the throne would be his once more...

Cyan-and-Gold World

Alex Stewart – New Beginnings

Alex Stewart’s life is one of the best feel-good stories to hit Licentian sport in decades. From his upbringing in various RLAF (Royal Licentian Air Force) bases, to the loss of his parents at a young age, to his adoption by Nathan Gardiner and subsequent signing with the Celtic academy, to his first performance for the national team against Camwood during World Cup 60, Stewart has been an inspiration to millions.

Alex Stewart was born at Montfort Bay Air Base, to John Stewart, an Abingdon-born air force engineer, and Emily Barton, a pilot born in Montfort. Alex never stayed in one place for long during his early childhood, with both his parents flying out of the base often, leaving him in the care of various colleagues who were staying on the ground at the time. Despite this, Alex was a normal child, loving football and lacrosse, playing both with his father, and in various games with other children living near the base.

Alex’s life took a turn for the worse at the tender age of ten, when his mother was killed in a training exercise over the Licentian Barrier Islands. It is said that her plane hit a storm, and she lost control, with her aircraft joining many buried off the coast of St Thomas’ Cove. Alex’s father was worst affected by this, and was given compassionate leave from the RLAF while he recovered. Though his outward appearance became happier over the next year, he was still depressed, and he took his life exactly a year after the death of his wife.

Now orphaned, Alex was fostered, and taken into the Licentian system, luckily for him, one of the best in the world, and was fostered in Abingdon by an elderly couple, who have requested not to be named in this article. While in Abingdon, he took a keen interest in football, and at the age of 12, began playing for Abingdon Academy, the school that he had attended since the death of his father. It was here that he came across Nathan Gardiner for the first time.

Gardiner, 31 years old at the time, was watching a school football competition, as part of Celtic’s initiative to promote sports in the Abingdon area. He saw Stewart taking on all comers, and not letting in a single goal in the competition. When he returned to the club the next day, he told Celtic scouts to watch young Alex, and spoke to the manager, the late Gerry Adamson, telling him about Alex’s amazing talent. Adamson, intrigued, went to watch Stewart, and immediately afterwards invited the young man to join the Celtic academy.

When Alex joined the academy, Nathan took him under his wing, and taught him the ropes of top-level goalkeeping. With his raw talent and the mentorship of a legend like Gardiner, it was no surprise that Stewart was beginning to break into the Celtic senior side as soon as he signed a professional contract at 17. He was soon thrust into the side, when injury to Gardiner meant that he had to step between the sticks in a rivalry match against Gaels, which Celtic went on to win 3-0.

Gardiner had for years acted like a father to Stewart, with Gardiner never having married, and having nobody to care for before Alex. When Alex was 17, he decided with Nathan that Gardiner should officially adopt Alex, so that what before was a father-son-like relationship, became a father-son relationship. Gardiner was ecstatic, and the paper were officially signed the next day.

When the RLFA (Royal Licentian Football Association, and in no way related to the RLAF) selected the team to represent the nation at World Cup 59, it was no surprise that the pair were both selected. Gardiner was the preferred keeper, and played throughout the qualification attempt, during which the Cyan-and-Gold failed to win a single game. However, following the campaign, Gardiner was forced to retire, after a knee injury in the match against Krytenia.

Alex Stewart then took the starting mantle, both at Celtic and for the Cyan-and-Gold. He relished the opportunity, and led Celtic to the Globe Cup twice in as many years, and helped the Eagles to Cup of Harmony qualification, though they crashed out in the group stages in Ancharmunn and Yesopalitha. Now, despite a fear of flying borne from the death of his mother, Alex will head out, yet again, to join the Licentian side in another qualifying attempt.
This nation has now been reformed as the Licentian Isles. Please direct anything intended for me to that nation.

Redayan Sport Channel (RSC)

Hello and good evening or morning to you! I am Richard Biaboni, and thank you for watching the RSC coverage on the World Cup LXI. Since the program's original host had an unfortunate accident and is currently in the hospital, I will be temporary your guide to the world of Soccer.

Yesterday, the Redayan National Soccer Team, the same one from the Baptism Of Fire 48, was chosen by the government to participate in the World Cup LXI. Not really surprising, even though the Redayan Team suffered some losses at the start of BoF 48, they manage to do so some impressive goals, including a 4-0 win over the Aqusul team and managed to be the top of Group D, in which the Redayan Team was listed in, since the middle of the BoF 48 and kept that position before the Quarter Finals, where they lost to the pretty decent Zandistan and failed to qualify for the Quarter Finals. Although Aqusul played rather well, the Redayan Team as always had some aces up its sleeve.

Back to the World Cup, after being selected by the government, they almost immediately posted an almost unaltered team rooster as they were confident that the team would be play best in what they had already chosen previously. Just today, Koshteh Tariki, easily one of the most skilled player of the Redayan Soccer Team, has graciously accepted to be our request for an interview with him.

Before that though, we thought we should provide those of you who were not following the game played by the Redayan Soccer Team a short summary of what Koshteh Tariki, a somewhat new player in the Redayan Team, did during the BoF 48. I don't know how you could miss out on somebody as great as Tariki but anyway,

In almost all of the matches played, Tariki, scored more goals than any other player in the Redayan team, making him an invaluable asset to the Redaya's soccer team. And considering Redaya will be playing against some formidable teams in the World Cup 61, the Redayan Team needs as many as good players as it can get, and having a determined player such as Tariki is certainly a bonus. And now, to the exclusive interview...

Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to present you...
Koshteh Tariki!

Interview With Koshteh Tariki:

Richard: Hello and welcome to RSC, Mr Tariki.
Tariki: Pleasure is all mine.
Richard: So Mr Tariki, tell us a little about yourself. Do you enjoy soccer?
Tariki: Enjoy? I love it! Soccer is my life now, and also my love. Oh and I definitely don't mean love as in romance.
Richard: Would be a little strange to think that you are romantically involved with a soccer ball.
Tariki: Yeah... yeah...
Richard: So, do you like playing with other players in the Redayan Team?
Tariki: Like 'em all! And besides, gotta be like bros to each other if we wanna win the World Cup.
Richard: Of course. How does it feel when you know that whilst you are playing, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, are watching you from TV or from a seat in the stadium?
Tariki: We don't always play in a stadium, you know. We also have training matches and those certainly don't need an audience. And it feels cool to represent one's country.
Richard: No doubt. Anything you have as an hobby?
Tariki: I would say soccer but that is my work too so, other than the occasional poker I play with my friends on weekends, I don't really have any favourite hobby.
Richard: Poker? As in gambling?
Tariki: Nah, besides, ain't gambling forbidden by Shepism?
Richard: Shepism? Didn't know you were a follower of Shepism.
Tariki:[b/] Kidding? At least 'round twenty or so percent of Redayans are Shepists. Makes 'em kinda a majority.
[b]Richard:
If there was such a thing as second majority, no doubt they would be. Anyway, lets go back to soccer, do you see the Redayan Team winning the World Cup?
Tariki: If we support each other all the time, both during games and outside games, as we do now, we will win the cup for sure.
Richard: Any foreign soccer team you deem is the most challenging, if not unbeatable, for the Redayan Team?
Tariki: I dunno, they all have pretty good players as well. Certainly each match is a challenge for us.
Richard: I see. We are almost running out of time, as our program ends in three minutes. Any words you want to say to those at home?
Tariki: Yeah. Whatever happens, don't let your guard down, ever. If we underestimated Zandistan in the BoF 48, we would have lost 1-5 to them, not 1-2.
Richard: Touching. It was a pleasure to have you here with us tonight, Mr Tariki.
Tariki: Thanks. Was nice being able to talk to such good hosts.

Last One Minute:

And so, our interview with Mr Tariki ends. Our program will end soon too, so remember to watch RSC again for any updates on the World Cup. If you keep watching the RSC, you will always be the first to know if the Redayan team gets qualified or not.

Fabricio Calderon dipped his quill back into the inkpot and leant back. The sooner he was done with this the better. The whole nation had gone football mad as a result of the Baptism of Fire being held there, and the footballing wing of the Musee Nazionale was being overrun with fans looking to learn more about the game that had passed the nation by during the Pause Time. In fact, even the memorabilia and exhibits on the Lost Boys of Oasirica had been moved across into the Nazionale from their usual resting place in the Museum of the Pause Time for the duration of the tournament, and they'd gathered much international interest.

The locals already knew the story of the Lost Boys inside out though, and what they really wanted was to know about the history of the World Cup itself, and so that job passed to Fabricio. An apprentice archivist with a background in editorial work, he had drawn the short straw as far as compiling the histories of the World Cup were concerned, and with some empty cabinets yet to fill, his picked up his quill for the fifty-ninth time that evening, studied his source material, and began to write...

"The Fifty-Ninth World Cup was hosted by the Atlantian nation of Vilita, and the Rushmori nation of Polar Islandstates, and was notable in the Republic for being the second tournament entered by the new Ossidiacqua side."

"Qualifying was as ever the largest and most eventful stage of the tournament, with many big names failing to qualify for the finals altogether. Dorian and Sonya, Audioslavia, Civil Citizenry, Queer Poco el Mono Ara, and Valladares were just some of the nations that didn't reach the finals tournament, whilst our own Acquan side performed admirably, coming only four points away from a playoff spot in only their second campaign."

"The Audioslavian press (Population: 1) seemed to start qualifying with the excuses before the tournament had even started, beginning with an in-depth reminiscence of Spaamgate as they did, and Karditan had trouble finding a stadium to even call their own, though they eventually settled half in the Kytler Peninsulae and half in Civil Citizenry. Notable for lyrical skills and linguistic gymnastics were the famous monks of the Archregimancy, who were represented at all corners by MC Monky L-Man, who was whilst not to everybody's musical taste, at least talking forwards, which is more than can be said for the unfortunate reality slip that happened to Empire Holy The."

"Co-host Polar Islandstates almost caused an international incident when they hosted a friendly with neighbours Sargossa in a stadium mere kilometres form the contested islands of Kulmsaar, though both nations have since papered over the cracks. Speaking of international incidents, the nation of Astograth defied internal strife and the violent reach for independence of Ossidiacqua's BoF co-hosts Iturributa to qualify in first place from their group."

"Qualifying through the playoffs was Gyatso-kai, a nation remembered fondly by many Acquans for their similarly boisterous style of play, a team full of players our boys can really get stuck into without fear of play-acting or repercussions. Also playoff victors were Erathore, Ipeland, and Bears Armed, the team of Ursines once more proving that you can never write off the Bear Belles. I mean, they're bears."

"The finals saw many teams optimistically looking towards the later rounds, with Krytenia in particular arriving in a bluster of good press, surrounding their players who finished as runners-up in the last cycle with titles such as "hero". And, in news that shocked nobody, Emperor Boston lost his marbles. Evidently he found them again later, as he scored six in the match between The Archregimancy and Bostopia. Though, given the score of the match was 4-2 as the Emperor scored all six, there are plenty who say he never had any marbles to lose to begin with."

"There was an unfortunate bereavement in the Jeruselem royal family during the course of the tournament, and there was further drama in Polar Islandstates, where police had to not only deal with errant and foul mouthed Chetkoski officials, but also the stunning event of a satellite flung from orbit by The Holy Empire's Reality Engine crash-landing into the turf of the national stadium. The home fans were perhaps more shaken up by their team being knocked out in the second round however, a determined Vegan team lead by retiring manager Mace Kinoz’gh knocking them out on penalties."

"Fellow hosts Vilita also bit the dust in the second round, and so the quarter finals continued without host excitement. Some more kareoke excitement appeared to put Kytenia off their game as they too fell to Mace's last charge, before The Babbage Islands put paid to Jeru FC's challenge on penalties. Also through to the semi finals were the dominant team of the era and reigning champions Aguazul, and the impressive and dynamic team from Kagdazka and Pazhujebu."

"Semi finals are always tense affairs, and as The Babbage Islands and Aguazul proceeded to the final, a hastily patched up Nasjonale Stadion in Franz Josef City hosted the third place playoff, won by Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, who saw off their manager in style. The final meanwhile, in Lonngeylin Coliseum, Vilita was an even tenser affair. Decorated with the information run by Babbagian analysts that Eauz had won the fantasy tournament of the All-Time World Cup, the final nonetheless remained goalless, with Aguazul eventually picking up the three-peat on the back of a 7-6 penalty win. An unprecedented feat, and one for which they are to be applauded."

"The final was overshadowed with controversy however, as a declaration of war between the micro-state of NSWC Signups and Aguazul ensured the defending champs would be unable to actually defend their title at the next world cup."

"For the story of World Cup 60, please check the cabinet to your right."

Putting down his quill once again, Fabricio carried the parchment over to the cabinet and pinned it into place. At the bottom of the cabinet lay the pile of stock photos that he now had to sort through and decide which ones to put up. Naturally, there was a disproportionate amount from Acquan matches, but that was just part of the challenge of the job.

One sequence of images caught his eye in particular however, and made him stop and look again. There, three photos of an old man talking with Ricardo Velasquez on the pitch after the home tie with Eastfield Lodge at Il Colosseo. Who was that? He was on the pitch, so there was obviously a legitimate reason for him being there, and yet Fabricio, a keen football fan, didn't recognise him at all. He wasn't a coach, he wasn't on the staff at Il Colosseo, and he sure as hell wasn't a player. What's more, he was white, and in a nation of Djocorangan descendants, that made you kind of memorable.

Fabricio leaned closer to take a closer look. Velasquez looked like he knew the man, and there was something in his hands that wasn't there before. Had the mystery man handed him a piece of paper? And wasn't this the match before Velasquez made himself unavailable and made a sudden and unexplained trip abroad?

Fabricio spun around and was about to take the photographs for a closer look under the light of his oil lamp, when something caught the corner of his eye. That brow. That distinctive browline. It was there in the face of the man in the photograph, and it was there right in front of him. The picture of the Lost Boys in the exhibit brought across from the Museum of the Pause Time. They were so uncannily alike.

Feverishly excited, Fabricio leant closer to read the caption on the team photo of the Lost Boys. Who was it? There. Third from the left. No...

'Enzo Sertori'. The centreback that had been infatuated with the sister of his national and club captain, the legendary Stefano Velasquez. The letter he'd written to Lady Esmeralda Velasquez had been found amongst the late Stefano's possessions after he'd passed away, but no record of Enzo had ever been found. No body, no suicide, no trip home once the time wall fell, nothing. The letter he'd written had never been opened for posterity. Fabricio was looking at it now, pinned in the locked cabinet.

So then who was this man? He was clearly keen to talk to Ricardo Velasquez, a direct descendant of the Lady Esmeralda. Could it be that... no, surely not... was this old man a direct descendent of Enzo Sertori?! Was the trip abroad connected? Fabricio ran out of the Musee, the part for world cup 60 could be written by someone else, he had more pressing matters to attend to. He had a museum curator to talk to for one, and quickly.

Football Team at World Cup
by Jake Orad

The Timfen football team are ready for the world cup qualifiers straight after their Baptism of Fire campaign in Ossidiacqua. The team got to the play-offs before the 2nd Round and lost on penalties.
The good news for Timfen is that Haaris Banes has recovered from the injury he picked up in the first match of the BoF. Also, Revel Drey is still injured, so Shaun Swanton comes in for him and Robert Watts and Herman Dejean have been dropped and been replaced by Kurt Georges and Martin Stockman respectively. We asked the manager, Thomas Thatcher, his thoughts on the team.
"We have a very strong defence, and a few good attackers as well. I was proud of them in the Baptism of Fire, although the team have been practising penalties quite a bit. We should hopefully do reasonably well in this tournament."
