The Vannad (Ferret) Military Utility Vehicle was developed by Verlaine Corporate Industries as a private venture to meet requirements of the Haruspex Colonial Legionary. It is designed to be used in combat areas or during peacekeeping operations. It was designed around the success of the Rihdan (Hunter) mine resistant ambush protected vehicle. The Haruspex Colonial Legionary plans to replace it's fleet of Dnylgan's (Tracker) with this vehicle. As it was being tendered for the colonial forces, the Vannad was also put up as an export vehicle for international customers.
The Vannad provides seating for the driver, plus 4-5 men, depending on the version.
Armor of the Vannad was developed by Haruspex International Armaments. Vehicle armor provides protection against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters, landmines and IEDs. Vehicle has a V-shaped hull. The Vannad can be fitted with add-on armor kit for increased protection. This add-on kit can be fitted or removed in field conditions within 30 minutes without using any special tools. The Vannad is a smaller supplement to mine resistant ambush protected vehicles.
The Vannad can be optionally armed with a remote turret station which mounts an anti-infantry OWS-25R - 25mm auto cannon. This weapon is a dual feed armament, and has Peritelescopic combined day / night sight for added offensive capabilities. It's mount allows for low weapon depression angles, and stabilized firing for while on the move.cannon and an automatic grenade launcher. The turret is controlled by a gunner inside of the turret and has the ability to rotate 360 degrees and barrels can angle up to 85 degrees. Weapon mount is mainly designed for use against other vehicles and against infantry but can angle high enough to be useful against aircraft. Both weapons are in a single sleeve and elevate together.
The Vannad is powered by a Pantheon Automotive 3.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 290 hp. It is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Vannad has Pantheon Automotive's TracGrip of which delivers full-time four-wheel drive without any switches or levers to pull. The system provides smooth operation over a variety of road conditions. This light-weight single-speed case is both proven and highly efficient for enhanced fuel economy.
TracGrip's two-speed transfer case uses input from a variety of sensors in order to determine tire slip at the earliest possible moment and take corrective action. The system uses Throttle Anticipate to sense quick movement in the throttle from a stop and maximizes traction before slippage occurs. When tire slippage is detected, as much as 100 percent of available torque is instantly routed to the axle with the most traction.
TracGrip, with a rear Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (ELSD), delivers industry-leading tractive capability. The system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly distributes engine torque to tires with traction. In some cases, the vehicle will anticipate low traction and adjust in order to proactively limit or eliminate slip.
Is also fitted with a self-recovery winch. The Vannad can be carried underslung by most heavy lift helicopters as well as airlifted by a variety of military cargo aircraft.
