The Type 3 " Vino "(Fury) class Self Propelled Anti-Aircraft-Gun system was developed to provide terminal phase defence of high value assets against guided bombs, cruise missiles, anti-radiation missiles and aircraft threats. It is essentially a land based derivative of the existing US Phalanx CIWS and EU Goalkeeper CIWS.
The HIA K4 CIWS seven barrelled 30 mm gatling gun has a firing rate of 4,600~5,800 rds/min, with two 500 round magazines. Additionally, the Type 3 Vino carries Six ready-to-launch Numyht missiles contained in box-shape launchers. The missile has a specially designed seeker for attacking helicopters that operate in near earth environments with strong sources interference. The missile also has a 3kg HE warhead to ensure enough damage to the armour-protected attack helicopter gunships. The operation range for the missile is 300m to 6km.
A HIA Type A9 tracking radar is mounted on the roof of the cannon turret, along with a day/thermal sighting system, which also incorporates a laser rangefinder. The cannon is operated by a gunner in the fully enclosed module to the behind the cab. The AAA/SAM version of the system also features a low-altitude target search radar mounted on top of a mast located near the driving cab. If necessary, the weapon system could also work with a stand along target acquisition radar with longer detection range.
Specifications Entered service: 2008 Type: Anti-Aircraft/Missile Defense Model: Type 3 Vino Configuration: 6 x 6 Crew: 2+1 Two operators are seated in the very rear of the vehicle; each has a display and associated controls that include command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) and communications systems. Additional Crew: 1 The defense of the vehicle is left to one crew member manning a remote-controlled 12.7 mm machine gun installed on the right side of the roof. Used typically for self-defence, this is laid on to the target using a flat-panel display and an associated hand controller. Banks of four electrically operated smoke-grenade launchers are installed on either side of the roof and cover the frontal arc.

The electro-optical package includes day and thermal devices, a laser rangefinder and an automatic target tracker. The electro-optical package can detect a typical aircraft target out to a range of about 12 km and start tracking at a range of about 10 km, but these figures depend on the ambient weather conditions.
