Guide To The Rubble Belt (Please Don't Post, TG Me)

-As I said in the title if you have any criticisms, suggestions or you would like to know more about the Rubble Belt please TG me.
-The Rubble Belt is a future Earth whose history I wrote my self with some inspiration for the military from Stargate and Halo.
-Due to the differences between some sections of the Rubble Belt (which will be explained later) some sections will be split into statistics about individual regions.
-Due to the secretive nature of the people of the Rubble Belt, everything in this should be considered OOC KNOWLEDGE, there are a few exceptions to this rule though, mainly for things such as nations I've fought before knowing some things about my ships, but don't RP with me and say that your country knows everything about mine. 2-History Of The Rubble Belt

The events that led to the founding of the Rubble Belt began in 2145. The previous 100 years had seen the world rise from the ashes of world war 3 more or less united. Thanks to the technology developed during the war the economy explodes into a level of prosperity unseen in history and as a result these times become known as the First Golden Age.

In 2086 the Global Space Agency (GSA) establishes the first colony on Mars. The goal of the four thousand men and women is to discover a way to terraform the red planet.

Two years afterward the GSA builds a prototype FTL drive. The first test using an unmanned space craft is successful and plans are immediately made to dispatch a manned mission to Thatos, a system believed to contain a habitable planet.

In 2095 the first shipbuilding and mining facilities in the asteroid belt are built. These facilities are designed to use unmanned space craft to mine the asteroids for useful materials. These materials are then used to build the spacecraft for the mission to Thatos. The ship becomes known as the Endeavouring Noah. During the construction of the Endeavouring Noah the element Efelion is first identified. After tests it is cleared for commercial use and becomes a cornerstone of modern technology being used in everything from electronics to power supply.

By 2123 the Endeavouring Noah is ready for launch, the ship leaves Earth among great celebration, carrying a crew of three hundred thousand colonists in cryogenic stasis and enough equipment and supplies to keep the colony going for 60 years by which time it is thought that the colony would become self sufficient.

In 2124 messages from the Endeavouring Noah abruptly stop. Although this worries some the Endeavouring Noah’s FTL communication devices were prone to brake down during tests and so is not followed up.

In 2125 the construction of a second colony ship begins, the Picard. Unlike the previous vessel which was an international effort the Picard is funded primarily by the Australian Government and as such they are given much control as to the composition of the crew and cargo.

In 2135 the Picard is ready for launch. Unlike the Endeavouring Noah it features a perfected FTL communication system, it also carries a small force of Australian Army troops due to fears among some that there may have been a mutiny aboard the Endeavouring Noah and the rebels chose to cut all communications with Earth. Although only one hundred soldiers are on board they have undertaken the latest genetic enhancements and are equipped with the most effective weapons produced by human hands.

In 2141 a message is received from the Picard. The message contains video and audio files of the boarding of the Picard by an unknown race of creatures who slaughtered the crew and the colonists despite the best efforts of the soldiers, who kill many times their own number but are eventually overwhelmed. The message also contains pictures of Thatos that reveal features not seen on telescopes. Cities can be seen all over the planet and a large fleet of ships can be seen in orbit, upon the examining of some of the pictures the race is discovered to have ships capable of faster then light travel.

In 2142 the nations of Earth pool their technological might to build the largest and most powerful military force in the history of man. Genetic enhancement becomes mandatory for all humans and a small force of space going warships is built along with hundreds of orbital defence platforms to defend Earth.

In 2144 three hundred asteroids nearly crash into Earth. Although they are destroyed by Earth’s defence platforms it is suspected that it is most likely an attempted first strike by the aliens. A theory that is confirmed when aliens in cryogenic pods are found in some of the more intact asteroids. Six are recovered alive and are interrogated over the next few months when it is found that many of them speak English. Something that greatly worries the senior human commanders. After the asteroid attack production is turned away from the production of warships to colony ships designed to carry a large portion of the population off planet.

In 2145 the first combat contact is made with an alien fleet of 13 warships which are decimated by four human battle cruisers that leave the battle with only a few dents and scratches.

In 2148 the first evacuation ships are completed, having been unable to discover another habitable planet while the ships were under construction, the GSA decides that it will use the ships to ferry civilians into hidden habitats in the asteroid belt. However due to space restrictions only 1.5 billion will be able to leave for the currently prepared habitats and through a large amount of bribery and blackmail the Australian government ensures that it’s people will be given the top priority.

By 2153 the first phase of the evacuation is nearly complete, 1.5 billion people, mainly from Australia but also some from Europe and the US along with the most treasured artefacts of human history, such as the Mona Lisa, the Ark of the Covenant and terabytes of information on human history and culture. To compensate for the lack of off world habitats hundreds of miles of underground tunnels are constructed where civilians still on earth can hide from the invaders.

In 2157 the long awaited hammer blow falls. Over two hundred thousand alien ships emerge from Fast Space. Hopelessly out numbered the four dozen human cruisers engage in hit and run attacks but suffer 27 casualties in the first few hours. Meanwhile the aliens move in bypassing Mars and Luna they head straight for Earth. Although they take heavy losses doing so they neutralise the orbital defence grid and begin to land troops on a seemingly abandoned planet. Satellite records indicate that over three billion alien troops were landed. At first they did very little beyond set up camps and explore the largely empty landscape. After eight months a large portion of the fleet left Sol for parts unknown leaving only a few hundred ships in orbit. It was then time for the human counterattack, which was just in time as supplies for the huge number of hidden people were beginning to run low.

While the aliens had headed straight for Earth they had ignored Mars and its moons, Phobos and Deimos where the humans had stationed several thousand ultra long range missiles in concealed silos. These were used to decimate the alien fleet and when the human fleet entered battle to mop up the survivors the ground attack begun. Before the invasion millions of human ground troops had hidden away with the civilians in the under ground bunkers, silently watching the enemy and now that it was time they strapped on their armour, mounted their vehicles and moved to engage the enemy. Already disorganised by the loss of their orbital support, the aliens were further thrown into disarray by human armoured assaults in locations all over the world and were crushed in weeks.

In 2159 the Alien fleet finally returned and this time they took up orbit around earth and were careful not to let their guard down. However when the aliens arrived, the humans launched operation Doolittle, a daring plan that would go down in history. Twelve human ships travelled to the alien home world and as expected with the armada away the planet was virtually defenceless. Once the ships were in position they began to bombard the planet with Ultra-High Yield nuclear weapons. With twelve times the power of Tsar Bomba the use of just one of these weapons on Earth would have had catastrophic effects, but several hundred were unleashed upon Thatos. The humans were forced to make a retreat though when the armada appeared and destroyed many of the ships.

2161, following the victory near Thatos many humans begin to feel that they might actually have a shot at winning the war. However the victory is short lived when the Armada enters Sol and attacks Mars, Earth and Luna with previously unseen kinetic weapons. The bombardment is so heavy that the planets actually shatter in trillions of rocks, wiping out the several billion humans still on the planets.

By 2165, the “Rubble” as the gargantuan ring of rocks is now called becomes the new human home as people build new Bio habitats to grow food and machines to mine the asteroids for materials allowing them to barely support the population. The Human race becomes highly secretive during this period, seeing their invisibility as the thing that keeps their civilisation alive and many habitats sever contacts with others. During this period the pre-war governments largely dissolve and humanity becomes quite disorganised. Attempts to unite are marred by plays for power that only make the situation worse culminating in several power plays against the only remaining human military, the navy, the ultimate deterrent against mass violence between the habitats.

The navy’s high commander Admiral Jerome Cole announces his intention to secede from the control of the various factions to avoid seeing his ship’s destructive power turned against civilians, he declares that his men shall serve as a sort of independent police service the protector of all but loyal to none. He is assassinated three weeks later but the action only drives the navy into following the Admirals decision with a near religious fervour and the High Command begins to take steps to help stabilise the volatile situation. Frequently sending marines to impose martial law in unruly habitats and blackmailing habitat commanders the Navy is hated by some but loved by many more due to their humanitarian missions, delivering vital aid to habitats in need.

2288, by now the era of infighting is largely over with three distinct factions emerging along with several small independent communities. The Gracis Monarchy made up of many Australian survivors. The New Commonwealth, a communist government founded mainly by the survivors of Britain, Canada and Ireland. And the Corporate Union which as its name implies is a conglomerate of corporations, mainly ones which operated numerous off world assets such as Perth Mining, Boeing and the GSA, which became a private entity shortly after the destruction of Earth. The many small communities officially gave their loyalty to no particular faction and so when tensions flared they were often used as intermediaries, however most had leanings toward one faction or another so sometimes they would deal quite unfairly and if further violence resulted the Navy would step in.

The Navy meanwhile stayed true to Admiral Cole’s vision and became an unaligned police force, rescuer of people in need and a beacon of hope to many humans. When their cruisers visit the various habitats they receive a heroes welcome each time, however they are disliked by many of the faction heads, as to stop wars the navy has often blackmailed faction heads using information gathered by the Office of Naval Intelligence and it is the threat of ONI’s continued surveillance that keeps the faction heads in their place.

2356, the first known suggestion of a unified human government from one faction head to another is made this year by Queen Lila of the Monarchy to Admiral Joespey, the then commander of the navy during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation. Her suggestion of an oligarchy made up of the faction heads and the Navy high commander is liked by the Admiral but he is unable to make it the idea a reality before he retires. He sets the creation of unified government among the navy’s long term goals.

2378, a small alien ship drifts into the Rubble. Although the CU makes contact and establishes friendly contact the Navy, fearing that news of humans having survived the destruction of earth will reach another conquering alien super power, destroy the ship before it can leave.

2401, the Navy begins construction of the Sol Defence Grid. Hundreds of asteroids are fitted with FTL inhibitors then scattered throughout the system. Although the CU, still sore over the incident with the alien ship, objects they are overruled by the Navy who point to their mandate to protect humanity against all threats as giving them a legal authorisation to build the grid.

2436, the first wormholes are successfully tested by the New Commonwealth. Although initially tested using robots they later move on to human trials and soon after they manage to establish the first efficient inter-habitat transport network. Although the Commonwealth charges huge amounts of currency, the other Factions eventually pay to have such transport networks installed in their own habitats with the Navy paying the bill for many of the independents,. The new networks however increase the efficiency of so many fields of production that the Monarchy and CU recoup their losses within a few years. A side affect of this is a previously unheard of amount of interaction between the people of the various habitats.

2478, The Faction leaders, King Hesiod II, Prime Minister James Stanton, CUSP Li Wrong and High Admiral Sair Daniels meet onboard the Navy cruiser Sleuth Of Baker Street, to discuss the possibility of a unified government. Only the Navy Admiral is there to achieve what she sees as something that will better humanity overall. The King wishes to extend his personal power base. Stanton wants to preserve the Commonwealths control over wormhole technology, which the other factions have been trying to muscle in on. And Wrong wishes to gain some degree of influence over the navy, which has been increasingly at odds with the CU in recent days. The meeting nearly ends in disaster several times but the faction heads agree to draw up a draft for what they think would work for a unified government.

2482, the second conference between the faction heads is much more successful then the previous one and after they leave they announce the formation of the official Rubble Belt Government headed by the council. Made up of the head of each Faction and the council speaker, the of who will chosen by the faction heads and the later ones by their predecessor, the council is designed as merely a way for the factions to channel there energy into serving the human race as a whole. However the media portrays it as just another League of Nations or UN, a good idea but bound to fail in the end. However the council proves them wrong and establish what becomes known as the new golden age.

2602, to celebrate 20 years of a united humanity the council announces the formation of the deep space exploration initiative a joint project between the GSA and the Navy. To start several out system launching points are created by the navy using hollowed out asteroids linked to the Rubble by wormhole. From these bases ships are to be sent to off world locations to establish diplomatic relations.

2619, the Rubble Belt defensive network is completed. With several hundred defence platforms stationed in the Rubble and all of the Rubbles entrances in hidden out system locations the Council declares that humanity will now seek out other species rather then wait to be found by them. However as before the people if the Rubble remain highly secretive and all ships are required to have an auto purge system for their navigation data and all non-Rubble ships that are caught by the systems net of FTL inhibitors are attacked and destroyed to preserve the secret of the Rubble’s location.

2620, in accordance with Monarchy laws, King Hesiod II abdicates to allow his daughter Queen Alexis III to take the throne.

2621, Current Year, the Navy’s new Gunnerkrigg class cruisers began to launch this year after half a decade of development and construction. They are the first true deep space warships built since the Great War.

2628, Due to perceived shortcomings in the UN fleet in their first engagements against foreign forces. The Security Council unanimously enacts resolution 2628-18B, the complete reorganisation of the UNMF space forces to effectively combat known and unknown alien forces.

4-Politics in the Rubble

Politics in the Rubble are often cut throat and all the faction leaders have legions of security measures in place to ensure their safety.

The Capital of the Rubble is the UNS Solarium. A UNMF former troop carrier that was disabled during the wars and left to drift. Considered a ghost ship no one approached it for several decades, however during the formation of the Rubble Council it was agreed upon as the closest thing available to neutral ground. Since the Council's formation and the signing of the Unification Accords the Solarium was restored to her former glory and she now rests in orbit over the Sun's northern pole serving as a literal capital ship. A shining beacon of unity to all in Sol and the Rubble.

The United Nations Military Forces Command


The United Nations Naval Forces

After the destruction of Earth, Luna and Mars the once mighty human military was a shadow of it's former glory. The Army and Air Force had suffered 100% casualties with the few dozen survivors being counted due to the rounding error. The Navy was barely holding together, with only eight cruisers remaining in a fleet that once contained hundreds. It was only through canabalising parts and taking control of former civilian craft that the Navy was able to barely keep the power games from blowing into all out conflict and assist the habitats desperately in need of aid. However the skills learned adapting to the post-war crisis later helped the navy rebuild.

Using some of the smaller chunks of Earth to construct hidden bases (One of which ironically, use to be part of the San Diego Shipyards). They used cloning to create new servicemen and women, enhanced them, then froze them in cryonic suspension until they were needed. Unmanned vessels were used to gather mineral resources and construct new ships and soon the Navy was once again flying it's pendent as it delivered aid and kept the peace all the while keeping the true nature of the service an enigma to all those outside their organisation.

Although still officially known as the United Nations Naval Forces, the moniker of the Rubble Navy has become more and more commonly used in recent decades, even amongst the service.

A sign of the changing times within the navy, the Dawn class is not a stealth ship, nor is it anywhere near as fast as other vessels within the fleet. The Dawns are monsters, designed to stand in the middle of a battlespace, take gratuitous amounts of fire and dish out ten times as much in return. The Dawns were built by integrating the lessons of the past with those of the future, a prominent example of which is the colossal spinal gun, which fires rounds the size of a skyscraper to almost two percent the speed of light. Their shields are powerful, theirs hulls are eight meters thick in some locations and they carry more fighters and soldiers then any other ship ever built by human hands. It's armament includes thousands of railguns, newer Class-5 sunbeam emitters, a variant designed specifically to be smaller then others, tens of thousands of nuclear warheads carried by almost two hundred THOR weapon platforms and thousands of Ares tactical missiles.

Throughout many engagements the Gunnerkrigg class has served with very few problems and they have quickly racked up victories in the UNN’s battles against non-solar threats. However as new technology reverse engineered from enemy vessels and upgraded UN technology based upon those early fights, began to be introduced HICOM came to the conclusion that either an upgrade for the Gunnerkriggs or an entirely new class of ship should be produced. The second battle against the Hive Mind threat allowed the navy’s research to do both.

The heavily damaged UNS Gunnerkrigg was brought to the Jovian Shipyards and had many components not already ripped off by a desperate warp jump removed to make way for a plethora of new weapons and technology. It had become the first of the Gunnerkrigg 2 class.

The Gunnerkrigg 2 is slightly larger then it’s predecessors and mounts more and better weapons. Including launch cells for Ares tactical missiles, improved small scale energy reactors for the ship’s primary weapon batteries and newer dual cannon, burster railguns.

When combined with it’s onboard marine battalion, now much heavier in ground vehicles and VTOL aircraft, improved stealth systems (which have taken many elements from the Manta class) and improved sensors, the Gunnerkrigg 2 is expected to soon become a universal upgrade for the fleet and will most likely serve well into the 28th century.

Built in complete secrecy at the Navy's state of the art, New Paris shipyards in the Attica system. The Akula represents the shift in the Navy's tactics in recent years from a small fleet of exceedingly powerful ships backed up by a larger number of light scouts to a fleet of medium sized destroyer/scouts capable of standing against the ordinary everyday threats they come across but able to request support from fast but more powerful warships should the need arise.

The Akula is similar to the older Manta class ships, and indeed they use many of the technologies pioneered by the Manta, but they are far more powerful in the speed and firepower section. Compared to their predecessor the Akula's mount nearly double the number of railguns and point defence missiles and they have even been equipped with the new Class-2 Sunbeam emitters, a weapon that has up until now only been mounted on a select few ships and space stations.

Due to the nature of their capabilities and the threat they would pose in the delicate balance of power in the Rubble Belt and Sol at this time, the Admiralty have elected to keep all information regarding the class's existence classified from the other members of the Rubble Council at this time.

Small Ships


Borne from hard earned battle experience, the Reaper is the Navy's newest top of the line, single ship. Being faster, more nimble and carrying a larger payload then it's predecessor. The Reaper is set to become the standard fighter craft across the navy over the next few years, replacing the Akula which has served on the front-line for nearly 150 years. The Reapers main armament is a pair of 40mm Gattling guns and a 12.7mm railgun. It's missile armament is made up of a variety of ship to ship nukes and ground attack nanite dispensers.

As a strategic intelligence gatherer the primary task of the Manta is insertion, observation and discretion. While officially the Gunnerkrigg class's stealth abilities are unmatched those in the know, know of the near invisibilty that the Manta posseses. However while silent and fast the ship has a very light armament compared to other ships. Thanks to it's capabilities as a scout Manta's in service are in high demand among naval commanders, Forces Command uses them to pinpoint targets before heavier ships move in for the kill, ONI wants them for inserting black operations teams undetected and the DRTF wants as many Manta's as it can get for a rapid response when investigating the disappearance of Rubble vessels.

The Gunnerkrigg Class is the first mass produced Navy vessel in several hundred years capable of and designed for inter-system travel. It's void drive is the fastest ever produced by human hands and it's excellent armament combined with superior maneuverability compared to other capital warships has quickly made it a favorite among the Navy's commanders and the Navy's primary cobat vessel, the vessel has also seen use in ONI missions thanks to incredibly advanced stealth system. Those who face the Rubble Navy will likely see a Gunnerkrig or two pay a visit to their homeworld as soon as HICOM gets word of hostilities.

The F-300 was once the Navy's primary fighter craft. Capable of both space and in atmosphere flight it can serve as a space superiority fighter one moment then switch over to the bomber role the next. Although it's normal armament consists of nuclear ship to ship missiles it can also mont a variety of more exotic weapons, such as void-missiles, railguns and nano-mite dispensers.

Designed to increase the Rubble Navy's knowledge of the galaxy without putting crewmen at risk. The Explorer class probe travels to a solar system identified by long range telescope, scan the system for useful objects (civilisations, resource rich planets ect.), then travel back to a recovery point where it is readied for another mission and it's information is transmitted back to HICOM.

United Nations Marine Corps

The deadliest soldiers in human history. UN marines, like their navy brethren, are birthed in artificial wombs and raised from the earliest age to wage war. Carrying a level of gene modification unseen since the days before the Genome Accords, Marines are capable of shrugging off wounds that would vapourise a bull elephant and able to take on whole squads of enemy soldiers, with their bare hands.

When well equipped with their signature power armour and heavy assault rifles a single UNMC trooper brings a new level to the battlefield similar to that of tanks in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The M-300 assault rifle is the primary assault rifle used by the United Nations Marine Corps. Firing the Super .50 round from a 30 round magazine, it can shred most enemies foolish enough to cross into it's sights in an instant and for heavier targets it can mount an under-slung gauss cannon. It is also quite difficult for an enemy to use to due to heavy weight and recoil, but even when out of their power armour, enhanced UN marines find lifting it, and even firing it, no trouble at all.

Faction Defense Forces (FDF)

Although the factions of the Rubble Belt all have their own military forces, apart from the Navy these tend to be just very heavily militia since the formation of the council, which has lead to them being referred to as Faction Defense Forces (FDF). Examples include the Monarchy's Royal Guard, the Corporate Unity's SECOPS and the Commonwealth Commando Brigade (CCB). All of these organisations have been thoroughly infiltrated by the Office of Naval Intelligence at both the squad and HICOM levels as in the event of a civil war within the Rubble these elite units would be at the forefront of any offensive actions. However despite being looked down upon by Navy personnel each and every member of the various FDFs is a skilled warrior, as veteran bar fight observers will confirm.

Corporate Unity Security Operations (SECOPS)

A true numbers army, SECOPS is part police, part army, part private military organisation, with it's troops numbering nearly a a billion men. Drawing most of it's manpower from Solar Security Solutions and Dimitrius PMC, SECOPS one and only duty is to secure the CU's holdings both within the Sol system and on the out system colonies. As such while they are neither the best trained or best equipped of the Rubble's many armies they see quite a lot of combat, mainly against Sith raiders and pirate forces. Of course though they employ such numbers that when one SECOPS soldier falls another steps in to take his place, a process that can repeat indefinitely until reinforcements arrive in the form of more SECOPS troops or the UNMF.

The staple of SECOPS interplanetary operations, heavy gunships are small, fast ships, lightly armed and armoured but often deployed in squadrons to offset the balance, allowing it to bring a large number of infantry and vehicles into battle quickly, it also makes them ideal evacuation and cargo ships and modified civilian models have become very popular, and sale of the gunships now form a significant part of Boeing quarterly income. Whether it is crushing the latest revolution on a CU colony world or bringing supplies to a settlement in need, the SECOPS heavy gunship is the frontier vessel for the people of the Rubble.

Small Arms Common In The Rubble Belt


Built by Boeing Defence Industries for the civilian spacer market, the gas operated AMC carbine became rapidly popular due to it's low cost but high reliability, earning it the moniker "the 23rd century AK". As the carbine became more and more popular several more powerful versions were built for the various faction armies, which Boeing sold with impunity to whoever had enough cash. Today it is still one of the most popular civilian firearms due to the obscene number of ammunition variants available but the only major factions still using it are the Corporate Unity, with AMCs of one kind or another equipping every section of SECOPS ground forces and the Gracis Monarchy, with a number of highly decorative weapons being seen in the hands of the royal guard.

One of the most advanced weapons in the Rubble. The LR2 Pulse Rifle has only ever been seen in the hands of the Commonwealth Commando Brigade. Rather then firing bullets as most Rubble weapons do the LR2 fires pulses of plasma, making the fourth plasma weapon in production and the only one capable of being held by a human, with the other three being ship based models. The technology used to fit the plasma accelerator into such a small package is a source of much mystery and is a secret closely held by the commonwealth government. The CU in particular would love to produce a similar weapon but they are bound by law not to and any attempts to do would most likely result in the Commonwealth disabling the CU sections of the Sol wormhole network.

In addition to their AMC carbines all members of the Monarchy royal guard carry pikes such as those pictured below. Although the glow of the blade is just for effect with their blades capable of slicing through materials at the molecular level, a guardsmen with a pike in his hands is a foe to be reckoned with, especially in the close quarter environments they normally do battle.

The MR-6 is a unique weapon. During the six years of raids by Sith pirates, Corporate Security Operatives learned that while their weapons were effective against lightsaber armed infantry, standard ballistics required several dozen rounds be fired before armoured Sith infantry fell. As such Remington, used it's own cache of captured Sith weapons, reverse engineered several systems and combined it with CU technology to build what is quickly becoming the most popular weapon on the civilian and military markets. With it's ability to change from firing low power incapacitating shots, to focused blasts capable of taking out light armour, the Remington MR-6 is easily one of the most powerful weapons ever placed in the hands of civilians, even if the exorbitant cost keeps it only in the hands of the most rich and powerful of people and factions. The only military forces who currently maintain stocks of the weapon are the Commonwealth Commando Brigade, the Royal Guard and UNMF Encounter Response companies.

Safety Action-To change the fire mode and to engage the safety, the operator must pull back on the switch on the rear of the weapon until it clicks, locking it in the rear position. Then rotate the magazine drum. While the switch is pulled back the weapon cannot fire. To re-engage the firing mechanism, the operator must pull the switch back as far as it can go then release it. Whichever firing mode the weapon is set to causes the light

Reloading-To reload then weapon, the fire switch must be pulled back, then the magazine drum popped out to the side by a firm push from the operator, exposing the charge cell. The charge cell is removed and a new one inserted.

Maintenance-It is recommended that the ignition components be replaced after 1600 charges are fired and the barrel after 4000.

9-The Sol System And Out-System Colonies

While nearly all human business is regulated to the Sol system, with permission from the Navy the CU have established a small number of resource gathering colonies. Often they are on uninhabitable or hostile planets to ensure their secrecy and they have numerous safeguards in place to ensure that in the event the colony is attacked and the defences overwhelmed, that the people unable to evacuate and any potentially damaging data is wiped out.

Normally this is achieved with a medium-yield effelion boosted nuclear weapon, so that all traces of human life and material are vaporised but resources are left intact in case the CU finds the need to return.
