The Radicchian Regular Army, Infantry [WIP]

Postby Radicchio » Thu Nov 20, 2014 2:00 pm

The Radicchian Regular Army's Regular Infantry (RRA,) when compared to the land warfare branches of other nations, is a realtively small force which is designed around a unique military doctrine which is suited to their Island environment. It is, however, a well-equipped professional force which is well suited to the security environment in which it operates. The equipment provided to soldiers of the RRA generally varies based on mission specifics, however the focus on specialization in training is evident in their uniforms and equipment.

The standard structure of the infantry is in Platoons which consists initially of a;
    A Platoon Leader (Warrant Officer)
    Assistant Platoon Leader (Sergeant)
    Adviser (Sergeant)
Each Officer commands a Scout (Corporal) who is responsible for his subordinates in each Squad which will include:
    A Specialist, 1st Class
    2x Specialist, 2nd Class
Specialists may include Machinegunners, Rocketeers or in Some Platoons, Mortarmen. This mix of specialization and flexibility is at the heart of the RRA's Infantry Combat Doctrine. Each Squad contains an "Action Group" of 10 Regular Infantry or Riflemen with and one Regular Infantry Operator (either a grenadier or a radio operator).

RRA-ASG6 Armor System
The Armor System; Generation#6 is the latest generation of indigenously developed bullet stopping armor used by the RRA. Built by The Galiert Combat Group It is available in four sizes and is fully adjustable to ensure a proper fit. It is a True LVL-4 shell with available multicoated, hardened ballistic steel plates for added protection. ASMS6 is meant to be worn over the uniform and as such it includes an integral webbing system which can be used as a pack frame for carrying a backpack or as a pack board for transporting equipment, the standard version has three magazine pouches built into the abdominal area but versions are available without these pouches.
Image

RRA-IS85 Armor System
The Increased Suitability, 80% is an indigenously developed bullet protecting armor used by the RRA. Built by The Galiert Combat Group It is available in two sizes and is fully adjustable to ensure a proper fit. It is a True LVL-3 chest and back protection carrier with available multicoated, hardened ballistic steel plates for added protection. IS90 is an answer to the mobility issue of heavier armors like the ASG6, it is meant to be worn either under or over the uniform and has been tested to stop 80% of all battlefield fragments and arms fire. The RRA has done extensive testing with this system and others, the conclusion of which has been that an 80% protection system which is worn 95% of combat operations is far more effective than a 99% protection system which is worn 50% of the time.

Electronics and Communications Equipment

P.U.R.S.
The Personal UHF Radio System is a purpose built Field Communication and Networking system meant to be mounted on an Infantryman's belt and connected by lightweight cable connections to the PABST and TCAP system. Fully charged and with the onboard system "sleep" modes enabled, this entire system is designed to operate for a full 25 hours without charging. The PURS uses its six separate transmitters and an onboard AI voice matching system mixed with thousands of programmable false voice and data transmissions of the same level of encryption so that if an enemy force did manage to intercept the transmission and decode the encryption, they would have no way of knowing which transmission was the actual soldier and which of the other five transmissions were the AI.
Image

T.C.A.P.S.
The Tactical Communication and Protective System (TCAPS) provides concurrent hearing protection and auditory situation awareness. TCAPS maintains hearing protection while enabling Infantrymen to use their PURS.

Power Pants
Wexler Industrial's latest product, "HumanPower technology: PowerPants" was developed in collaboration with the Radicchian Regular Army.
These lightweight, breethable pants are made of a technical moisture management fabric, with an antibacterial seamless design and drawstring waist for easy and comfortable everyday wear.
They are meant to be worn under a soldier's uniform and be non-restrictive to movement thanks to the full length, integrated 6 panel design.
These Pants add a layer of abrasion and impact resistant padding to key areas including:
    hip pointer,
    side hip,
    side leg,
    side knee,
    outside calf,
    shin,
    knee.
Which provides durability through the 1/2 inch thermal formed, scored, flame bonded, high density foam covers in these areas.
The layer of protection provided by the innovative design is easily appreciated by the wearer, however the padding has a second, separate function.
It is designed with a device built into the padding of each leg which as the wearer walks at a comfortable speed, harnessed the kinetic energy expended through body movement to generate an average of 24 watts of electricity which can be accessed through one of two Universal Service Buss Ports located at the rear waist of the pants.
At this rate of power output, a little over one hour of walking generates enough electricity to charge Eight mobile phones.

The PowerPants integrated circuitry intelligently adjusts the amount of energy that it harvests as a function of walking speed and terrain, harvesting more energy when available and dialing back energy harvesting when it it is not needed, providing no resistance to normal walking.
This revolutionary technology can be used to Power or Charge devices ranging from personal computing and communications devices like the PURS, TCAPS, PABST and many other devices, as well as having the ability to charge batteries for use in numerous devices.
Thanks to this new technology, the Radicchian Soldier will ne longer be requires to carry numerous, expensive and heavyweight batteries but instead can carry only two lightweight battery packs which can provide power and charging capabilities to the soldier's entire host of personal electronics.

R-S3 Target Designator Binoculors
The S3 10x42 Target Designator Binoculars are rugged, high performance Binoculars which have been coupled to a Medium Range Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder, permitting them to designate targets for Close Air Support aircraft flying overhead and in close proximity to friendly forces. The S3 uses an eye-safe laser wavelength, to find the range to a target and displays it inside the sight picture, once a target's range has been determined and the GPS coordinates have been calculated by the Application driven PABST computer, the S3's laser can be "Designator Mode" to fire an ordinance recognizable designating information pulse to "paint" the target for laser guided bombs, missiles and artillery.
Battery life for the Binoculars and Laser is about 10 hours of live time.
Image

R-7 Flashlight
A heavy duty aluminum framed right angled flashlight. It has a 3 way switch that controls the main lamp and and includes a main xenon bulb and 2x red LED lights (mounted below the main lamp) with an ultrabright backup LED mounted alongside the main lamp. Inside the battery compartment is a storage compartment for a spare bulb. The back of the flashlight has a sturdy user replaceable clip that allows it to be mounted on a belt or on the side of the R-2 Pack for carrying. Finally, there are three folding sections at the base of the flashlight that form a simple retractable tripod for handsfree use as well as a detachable lanyard.
The Flashlight is powered by standard 3x C cell batteries and comes standard with C cell Lithium Ion batteries for extended use.

[size=150]Personnel Ordinance
SG-7
The Standard Grenade, Series#7 is an all purpose hand grenade that has an effective kill radius of 5yds against unprotected targets. The Series#7 utilizes an electrical impact function which arms within 1 to 2 seconds of the clip release and will detonate the grenade upon impact, and a back-up pyrotechnic delay function which will detonate the grenade from 5-8 after impact if the impact function fails. The outer fragmentation shell is soft steel and is scored in a familiar "pineapple" pattern to produce optimum expansion of the high composition explosive contained inside. Though the soft steel shell provides a shrapnel effect, the interior of the grenade contains 2.5 oz. of high composition explosive and 6ft. of scored steel spring wire to produce a higher likelihood of ligament injury and soft tissue wounding against targets wearing protective armor on the torso.
Against unprotected targets It has shown a superior probability of kill within the 5yd area and a greater than superior probability of wounding within that area.
Grenades are issued in a "4pack" sleeve which fits into the side pocket of the R-2 Pack.
Image

LY1002 'Hellsbreath' Thermobaric Hand Grenade
http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4014
The LY1002 'Hellsbreath' is an in-service, purpose-built thermobaric hand grenade, designed and built by the Lyran Protectorate. It as been purchased en masse from the Lyran Arms Group and is used primarily as a structural demolitions Ordinance, however there has been some success in using it to clear Jungle under clutter and eliminate threats in otherwise unknown locations.
Image

BO-2
The Bounding Ordinance, Series#2 is a special purpose, two stage hand grenade that uses a weighted warhead on the bottom of the grenade to orient itself straight up and down (in testing the grenade has been proven to self orient 66% of the time on a variety of surfaces,) The first stage of the grenade explodes and throws scored-wire type shrapnel outward in a circular pattern of about 15 meters while simultaneously propelling the main body of the grenade upwards about 3ft before the second stage detonates with a killing blast radius of about 7yards.
The BO series of grenade was developed for use in mixed jungle/urban combat and the first stage warhead has shown high function in clearing foliage in jungle environments to allow the second stage to produce a more effective kill zone and in urban zones, the first stage warhead has shown superior function in producing lower ligament wounds against targets wearing protective armor on the torso.
Overall, the BO series grenade has shown a high probability of kill within the kill zone and a greater than superior probability of wounding within that area against all targets.
Image

SMC-1-14 "Hydra"
The Stalk Multiple Charge, Series#1, 14 inch Grenade is a special purpose, single stage stalk or "stick" type grenade that is comprised of a large warhead on the top of a wooden handle or stalk to give it greater range for throwing as well as the ability to "flick" the grenade around corners and out of hatches.
The warhead of the grenade contains 5.9 oz. of high composition explosive and 6ft. of scored steel spring wire to produce a higher likelihood of ligament injury and soft tissue wounding against targets wearing protective armor on the torso.
The basic blast radius is about 9 yards with lethality limited to ranges under 6 meters, however the grenade can be fitted with a fragmentation sleeve to produce a more effective kill zone of upto 7 meters with greater wounding out to 10 meters. Clustered with other upto 6 additional Warheads in what is known as the "Hydra" configuration, the SMC type grenade is a highly effective IED for use against vehicles and personnel.
The grenade is armed via a "knob" at the base of the handle which is turned a half turn clockwise to engage a 5-6 second pyrotechnic delay. The knob features a ready position, by turning the knob counter-clockwise twice a sensitive impact switch is engaged, when triggered, it will ignite the pyrotechnic fuse nearer to the main charge, reducing the delay to about 2 seconds.
The SMC series grenade has shown high versatility in it's kill zone for use against targets in urban environments as well as targets which are engaged from an entrenched or covered position. It is most often issued to breach teams, to tank and armor crews, to demolition teams and cached for use by special operations groups. The SMC-1-14 is a highly effective detonator for a variety of secondary charges.

Image

R-18 "Claymore"
The R-21 "Claymore anti-personnel explosive charge is a special purpose explosive charge that can be set to detonate using an onboard motion sensor connected to the primary electronic blast fuse, a trip-wire detonator switch connected to the secondary electronic blast fuse or it can be remotely detonated using a Remote Fob Trigger which is also connected to the primary fuse.
When detonated, the explosive charge fires 770 steel balls in a horizontal 60 degree fan-shaped arc 2yds high and 60yds wide. It was developed to deliver the optimum distribution of fragments at a 60yard range. It has shown a moderate probability of kill within the superior probability of wounding within that area against all targets.
Image

M112 Demolitions Charge
The M112 Demolitions charge is a high composition 1 1/4 Pound C-4 block with a copper "V" cutting channel built into the base of the block. The charge is designed to be used in a variety of demolitions circumstances. The M112 is used in conjunction with a variety of detonators and fuses, the most common detonator is to remove either the primary or the redundant electronic blast fuse from the R-18 Claymore and place it into the M112 Detonation Charge, doing this does not render the claymore inoperable. Bricks of M112 can also be wrapped around the SMC-1-14 warhead as a means of detonation.
