As Bok Landians speak English I am using English as a model.

OOC: Bold added. If you're all about protecting the English language, then you shouldn't be splitting infinitives. Also, "it's" is a contraction of "it is." The possessive form is "its." And finally, a comma is needed after the last bolded phrase. High horse? Please dismount.

OOC: If you're just going to offer a lame excuse for your poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation in a supposed defense of the English language, then I am clearly wasting my time pointing out your errors, just as you would be wasting the WA's time with this proposal.

The fact that you are taking issue with my grammar only proves my point that good grammar is essential to proper communication.

Why English? It isn't the most spoken language, and certainly isn't the best. And which dialect of English? And what about all the culture lost to language solidarity?

OOC:
One does not need to look down at the keyboard to be able to type in proper English Grammar. One, as indicated many times by many people, needs to just be able to know where they keys are and type from memory. Although, that still does not excuse the fact that THIS proposal has no bearing on the ENTIRETY of the membership of this August Body. As many of the nations here, at least ICly, do not have English as the official language of their nation. Attempting to do this because, OOCly, the main language used on the game and in the forums is English is just sad. Resolutions have bearing on the game and nation itself, not on what people actually DO. If you want to do something in this manner, then make it for all the languages, both real and made up, in the NS Multiverse. Otherwise you are just wasting EVERYONE's time.

However, looking away from a keyboard, half-listening to a teacher, and at the same time trying to stop the person next to you from unplugging your laptop can be a bit distracting. I apologize for my errors but, frankly, I think that you are taking an overly aggressive tone for someone who thinks that a protection of proper grammar is a waste of time. Since you seem to have expertise in grammar and language, why don't you post something constructive that can be used in writing a new and better draft? So far, you are the one wasting everyone's time.

OOC: No, it simply points out the inherent hypocrisy in your proposal.

Hypocrisy? Did you expect me to be an English professor? A robot? I made mistakes and accepted them. I'm watching what I type and double checking. I'm looking forwards, looking at what I can do. You are looking at what I did. So far you have only attacked me and my errors, not my ideas. The whole point of this forum (unless I'm mistaken) is for groups to collaborate and help individuals improve their ideas. How have you helped me improve mine?

OOC: The point is you are writing to scold players for making the same errors you yourself make. Maybe everyone making these terribly egregious errors against grammar - grammar being, of course, an absolute, immutable physical law - is also not looking at their keyboard? Maybe they're distracted by their class, or struggling with auto-correct, or any of the other excuses you've offered?

OOC: People complaining about English speakers splitting infinitives, which is something that English does to increase its expressive power, and which is only deplored by pompous blowhards who want Roman grammatical rules to be the iron law until the end of time, make me want to do something obscene. Like... say, split Latin infinitives. In fact, I think I'll do just that.

Itinera haec astronavis Incepti sunt. Mandatum perpetuum eius: mundos novos et invisitatos explorare; figuras novas vivae invenire, et novas civitates; ubi nemo prior iit ir.proterve.e!!!

(mic drop)

Seriously, though - is there going to be an updated draft of this proposal, or are we just going to sit around shouting and snarking at each other?

OOC: Any complaint about spellings always reminds me of when some jingoistic Americans say I can't spell. Though, the Political Compass gives a fantastic way of saying that in its FAQ.

This grievance comes from pernickety people who have leapt into attack without checking the FAQs … and without even the remotest realisation that British and American words are sometimes spelt differently. They should have travelled more! We've been at the centre of some sulphurous rancour, but we're not going to take offence or harbour any grievances. The catalogue of their ill-informed certainties won't colour this organisation's programme. It's a grey area anyway. And we don't want to labour the point. Except to add that most of these cavillous correspondents seem to feel that they have a licence or a blank cheque for a level of rudeness that more civilised souls wouldn't have dreamt of. In response, we nevertheless practise polite dialogue, enabling them to recognise that the error is entirely their own. (We manoeuvre them towards the Oxford English Reference Dictionary, which is also an encyclopaedia.) This leaves them quite defenceless, which may account for the fact that these less than honourable individuals virtually never apologise.

No. Please use your indoor voice.

As this one's going nowhere productive, and the OP seems happy about starting a new thread, iLock.

In so doing, I wish to express my gratitude for 6he entertaining disquisitions, speculations and interpolations --> Ta very much for the funny posts. (English --> English translation, with typo).
